While all the peoples are dream cruising in metro Detroit, we're spending Sunday in Ann Arbor/Ypsi. I brought my left handed wife here partly for novelty, partly for the pleasure of a great cheesesteak! The store is not as sparkling as in past visits. The staff not as receptive. The food definitely not up to par. What a terrible disappointment. Yes, this chain is currently in the middle of legal woes and massive store closings. Again, the food is decent, but not as great as 10 years ago. Even 5 years ago. Not to be paranoid, but is there an advantage to sabotaging your own product? It just didn't taste right. They said they did not know what it was and did not honor it. ODD. First time this happened. Not cool at all. I did not need the fries but just the point. Probably the last visit here. We have been here twice in the past month. Our first visit, we came in and ordered a bit of everything. The reuben was pretty standard. What you would expect it to be. Pretty good. I had a southpaw with the flaming cheetos. I would recommend eating this one fresh in the restaurant. I had a bite and it was gooey because of the cheese, and a bit of crunch with the cheetos. It was a nice split. However, after reheating the next day, it had all but turned to mush. We ordered some buffalo chicken fries. These were pricy at first... but you get a bunch and it was very tasty. Lastly the korean bbq sandwich - this is the only one we have ordered twice now. We got it initially and it was delicious. My girlfriend loved it. It is what brought us back fhe second time. However when we came back, she said it was much spicier that it was before. Just a bit too hot for her. So when we come back a third time. We will see what the verdict is. read more

The locations by me always had great reviews and people even recommended the place to me, yet were always empty. The two closest locations to me then closed. I was in the area for lunch and Lefty's sounded good. The Korean BBQ Hoagie and the Cheesesteak with spicy cherry peppers were my favorites. I ordered the cheesesteak, with fries, and some cheese sticks. It was delicious as always. Fries were crispy, cheese sticks were piping hot, and the steak was juicy. It was better than the locations by me because the place was cleaner and the staff was nicer. I was pretty shocked how good everything was, especially for a chain. Plus, it was busier than the old locations by me, leading me to think it wasn't a fluke and just good staff. I don't review places all that often, but it was just genuinely tasty and the other ones just didn't get enough business (probably because they were in weird tucked away spots). So those who read my reviews know I don't really eat meat, that being said I decided to try this place before I do my fast. I wanted to go out with a bang, so why not try a cheesesteak hoagie and Mac and cheese egg rolls, sounds delicious right!! I ordered the new hoagie with the liquid cheese and hot Cheetos on top (southpaw)(don't judge). My mom ordered corned beef egg rolls, Fries and a cheesesteak hoagie as well. First, this place is pretty pricey for the quality of food they serve. The Mac and cheese egg rolls were awful, they were greasy and flavorless. My hoagie was just okay, decent flavor and was edible however the cheese on top just wasn't good and had a wonky almost moldy smell. My mom said her egg rolls were greasy band flavorless as well and her French fries were fried in old grease and super over cooked. Overall, I'd be okay never visiting this restaurant for the rest of my life. The first thing I noticed about Lefty's was that they don't seem to have air conditioning. The second was that they were crowded. Good for them! I hope business stays good. The staff was super friendly and kind. I was impressed by how quickly they got our freshly made food out. We ordered a cheesesteak with spicy peppers (extra $0.25), a Reuben, curly fries, and onion rings to go. Of the two sandwiches, I preferred the Reuben. Reuben was good, stuffed full of corned beef, but the Russian dressing was a little on the mild side for my taste. The cheesesteak leans traditional (meat chopped small with just onions and cheese), and I thought it could have used more seasonings (or bell peppers, so shoot me). The onion rings were p e r f e c t. Arby's has better curly fries. Overall, I liked my meal but didn't love it. I probably won't be back any time soon. I have had the very best cheesesteaks in Philly, those being Pat's and Genos and they are 5/5. Perfectly seasoned not too greasy and soft cloud like bun. Perfect before a baseball game, feels light in gut. Very pricey at Lefty's. Guys were friendly but cheesesteak was more like a milk cheese soup poured inside a soft bun. Or seemed like someone bought a subway cheesesteak chewed it up and spit it into a bun. Couldn't taste seasoning at all. They add lettuce and Tomato which makes no sense. And it could've used some salt. I couldn't tell the meat was beef. The fries were soggy also. It's low end quality. I think there's hope if they can change the cheesesteak and not make soup out of it. Instead put cheese on top moments before serving. GUYS YOU NEED TO FIX THIS. And lower the price a bit since it's about $18/ person. Maybe the plain steak sandwich is better. The best I've had in Ann Arbor is Izzys. Perfect meat. Cheesesteak is done right. Good but not great bun. I have not tried Mr Spots. Subway. Surprisingly decent but bun ingredients are banned in Europe not sure if they changed chemicals which I assume make it soft. The food was AMAZING! The young man, JD at the register was so kind and friendly it made my visit very worthwhile. The food came out so hot and fresh. Very excited Ypsilanti now has a Leftys! I've been going to the Livonia location for a few years and now I don't need to drive as far Checked it out over the weekend and it was delicious. We came in a group and had a little bit of everything, it was great. Definitely my favorite cheesesteak I've ever had in Michigan. Really reminds me of eating one in Philly! The steak is perfectly cooked with cheese evenly melted throughout the entire hoagie. I prefer extra cherry peppers, they're loaded with flavor. Cheesesteak egg rolls and corned beef egg rolls are a must try and even the Cajun fries are super tasty. In addition to having great sandwiches and sides the staff is extremely friendly. I was honestly surprised how well they treated customers, going the extra mile to ensure a satisfied patron. They opened on Friday, I went on Saturday for lunch and they had a consistent flow of customers. I would recommend any sandwich lover to check it out ASAP. read more

Fairly priced, generous portion of hot juicy meat in the steak hoagie that I had ordered. Went well with the order of fries on the side. Went to Lefty's as it came highly recommend and ordered the 8" Italian Stallion. The food came within 5 minutes, however it was not what I expected. The meat appeared to be chopped processed meat (covered with cheese and some pepperoni). The hoagie was soft with no texture. The entire hoagie had little flavor, combined with a mushy bun - It was not my cup of tea. Based on Italian Stallion hoagie, only cheap ingredients that result in a tasteless soft substance. I had a few cheese steak hoagies in my life but this one was on the bottom of the barrel - I felt I wasted my money. read more

My husband and I ate here for lunch today. The guy at the counter took our order wrong but when the food came out and I told him that I ordered the big poppa they cooked it in 5 min or so then I got what I ordered. It was hot and delicious. My husband got just a regular cheese steak and It was really good too. I can't believe thAt they got rid of the booths they used to have here. The fountain coke I had was the best I ever had! If you're thinking run of the mill base line good cheesesteak hoagie... they got that. But why get a standard when you can get a hoagie with popcorn chicken on top; or an Italian stallion that's a cross between an Italian sub and a cheesesteak hoagie? There's several "hybrid" hoagies available and the ones I've tried are so good. I typically make it a combo which includes 8" sub, fries and a drink but I've never been able to finish it all. I ordered a southpaw hoagie from this place & all I can say is yuck. The main thing about this hoagie & maybe all the hoagies are that the meat they use is either unwashed but for sure unseasoned. I live in this area and am happy that they replaced bread basket with this hoagie spot. For a cheesesteak shop they actually have a pretty good selection of food. For my order I went with the cheesesteak, which was simple excellent. Everything about it taste top of the line (even the white American cheese, which I'm normally not a big fan of, but is good here) and the addition of the red pepper relish takes it to another level. Honestly this is probably one of the two best cheesesteaks in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area (Izzy being the other spot). In addition to the cheesesteak, I also had them do me a chili cheese curly fry, which was also very very good. Good people working here and good (quick) service plus great food equal a place you must eat at. read more

Tried this place tonight for dinner. We got the 8" cheese steak with mushrooms and the peppers (which was slightly spicy and I was surprised thinking they wouldn't be lol). It was good for what it was. Nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary. I also got the Reuben on rye. I've had better reubens, and I think this one was lacking in flavor. I wanted more sauerkraut, and the corned beef was just mediocre. We also got the Italian coldcut. It was decent enough and had good flavor. Doesn't beat a cold cut sammich from Subway though. We also god the cheese steak egg rolls and corned beef egg rolls which I liked the most! They were good. The food was good enough. It probably won't be apart of my regular rotation of restaurants to eat out at. But I wouldn't mind coming back every once in a while! read more
