I honestly do not have enough good things to say about Makani Catamaran! We had a lovely trip with the crew! We were lucky enough to go on a quiet day with less than 20 people on board. It was perfect! We were allowed and encouraged to ask questions, to enjoy ourselves, to relax and have a great time. We chose the 11 AM sailing and that was perfect. It wasn't too hot yet and traffic wasn't too bad getting to the marina. The staff were incredibly professional yet friendly and really wanted us to just enjoy ourselves. They kept a great eye out for wildlife and although we did not see much we were able to enjoy the gorgeous waters and we had a great time on the trip. We did hit some waves, my nephew fell in love with it and tried to get hit with as much water as possible. He would not leave the front of the catamaran. My sister and I had sunburns and felt a little nauseous on the trip. The staff were very accommodating and gave us essential oil to put on our wrists and behind our ears to try to calm the nausea. Overall I would absolutely recommend Makani Catamaran and the wonderful crew! Just an FYI, there is a bar on board where you can get sodas and drinks. They are not overpriced and my nephew was able to get a souvenir cup which he collects. read more

Had the absolute best experience on #Makanicat. The staff was incredible and very accommodating. We booked very last minute and the booking staff was able to accommodate us. We were booking activities based on weather so we were happy to know that weather forecasted clear. We arrived to the dock and boarded the ship immediately after. The crew gave us a quick rundown of what we were to endure and proceeded to sea. We got worried because there was a dark cloud that gave us a little rain but the speedy Catamaran took us away from the dark skies into the sunny weather! We arrived to turtle cove and the staff proceeded to a quick instructional meeting explaining how to use gear and floatation devices. Right after we did about an hour of swimming with turtles and we happened to come across a few of them. We did get tired after about 20 mins and decided to rest on the boat. While doing so one of the staff members came out with a sea urchin and showed it to us which I thought was a really cool treat! They began to serve lunch which was a build tour own sandwhich and fruit buffet. They also had delicious Hawaii chips as a side. My boyfriend and I opted for a all you can drink service and we got to take home a souvenir cup! During lunch we proceeded out further to sea where we got to enjoy a speedy ride amongst the waves. On the way back it was a little more of a smooth sailing where we got to converse with the other passengers. All together we really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend it for first timers or even locals! read more

We came here twice, the first time was for an afternoon snorkeling excursion, which was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip!! We got to see soooo many fishes and many turtles, even scuba divers!! Did a nice early morning sail through our Go Oahu card and I thought it was a pleasant activity. If you want to get some nice shots of the city shoreline and Diamond Head it's well worth it through the Go card. The crew was on time and extremely efficient, the drink prices were very reasonable. We had our 2 year old with us and he was a bit hard to manage the last 20 min of the ride but he loved it. Had to pull out a secret lollipop for the remaining harbor docking time lol. I was able to get some really cute pictures of him and so it made my trip. I would have drank a few cocktails but because on this trip it was so choppy due to a storm the day before people were having some sea sickness and so I didn't feel like drinking after seeing them puke, felt bad for them. The crew was working hard to replenish puke buckets and give out some ice water. Meanwhile we were just having a ball eating our snacks! My wife and I took the afternoon, and sunset sails. We were lucky enough see a few sea turtles, and have dolphins swim, and jump with the boat in the afternoon sail. The sunset sail was very nice. We had a great sunset for viewing. Michelle, and Chris, were very friendly, and great on both sails. The buffet for the sunset sail was good. We learned on the island that the check in for all activities are 30 minutes in advance to give everyone lots of time to find their way to where they are going, and parking. Makani Catamaran also has the shuttle service for those who stay in the Waikiki area. They are on the Oahu card, and also groupon for some deals. read more

We went on both the 7am and 2 pm tours. The morning tour at 7 am was the most enjoyable of the two because we went faster and farther out to sea . We had dolphins swimming along side the boat We saw the whales coming up to breath and blow, It was much more energetic than the 2:00 cruise (although this became a fun cocktail cruise) read more

We did the fireworks dinner cruise. I had the very unfortunate experience of being sea sick the entire time, but the crew were super nice, very helpful, and knowledgeable. They played really good music and the people who were not feeling sick seemed to have a really fun time. The drinks were very affordable ($6) and really yummy (the few sips I was able to have). The food smelled/looked good, though of course I couldn't partake. They sailed us by Diamond Head and the spot chosen for the fireworks show was great. I'm giving this 5 stars because I am positive if I did not get sick it would have been a really fun time and definitely worth the money. read more

Me, wifey and family found Makani Catamaran through the Go Oahu card as a attraction to attend without paying extra money, the Go Oahu card is the best to get when visiting Oahu. We parked right in front where the catamaran is and got there early morning for our selected time. There was about 40 people or so that were waiting too. The catamaran is very nice!! And the staff is super cool, they have a full bar on the boat. They were playing some cool dance music and my wife and some new friends were dancing on the boat and drinking, super fun, also very relaxing too. They take you around Waikiki beach area and you get really awesome photos of diamond head and the skyline of Waikiki. We also saw some turtles in the ocean and wild dolphins. We totally recommend Makani, 5 stars!! read more

There are several catamarans to choose from in Waikiki. Our group attended Makani as it was one of the activities included in our Go Oahu Pass. This catamaran does not offer food, but there is an awesome bar with very affordable ($6) drinks. The staff, who also doubled up as bartenders, were friendly and fun. I, as well as several other passengers, got sea sick and they were so attentive and genuinely cared about making us feel better. However, I'm disappointed with the experience for the amount we paid for the Friday night fireworks dinner cruise. First, they make you wait on the pier until it is exactly the time they said you would board. Seating is a free for all, so get there early to secure a good seat. The dinner was pretty lackluster, and they try to up sell you on the one drink that's included. Overall, and sea sickness aside, I wish we had done something else that evening. read more

This review is for the "Friday Night Fireworks and Sunset Dinner Cruise" activity from 5:30pm - 8:00pm and I highly recommend it! Why is this option only available on Friday night? Well, the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki sponsors the fireworks show every Friday night at approximately 7:45pm. The Makani Catamaran is a gorgeous white vessel that is docked at Kewalo Basin, Slip #F-1. You won't miss it because it floats on the corner of Ward Ave and Ala Moana Blvd. Check-in at the kiosk began promptly at 5:00pm and the cruise departed at 5:30pm. After a quick introduction of the 3-man crew (Captain, First Mate, and Bartender) and safety brief, we were invited to enjoy cocktails and dinner throughout the evening. This time of year in the summer, the sun starts to set around 7:15pm. So you may want to lather on that sunscreen if you plan to roam around on the deck of the Catamaran or sit out on the trampoline nets. The nets are limited to three adults at a time. Kids enjoy them the most, but the First mate stood by to make sure there was some sort of rotation. The landmarks that you will see on the cruise are beautiful Diamond Head, Koko Crater and Koko Head, Waikiki City line, and the awesome fireworks. If you're lucky, you'll see sea turtles along the cruise. The weather was perfect! But as soon as the sun set, it was a little chilly so I'm glad a brought a light sweater to wear during the last hour of the trip. If you start to feel sea sick, the bartender will provide ice chips to chew on, offer a seat near the Captain of the boat for fresh air, or if worse comes to worse, a white bucket to hold your head in! read more

Great experience!! We took the Friday fireworks cruise and it was just awesome. We got there 30 minutes before boarding, weren't sure about parking, but the previous cruise had just finished unloading so a bunch of spots started opening up. We grabbed some dole whip as that was right next to their ticketing kiosk (special treat!) We could see the crew working hard to clean the cabin, restock ice and drinks, and make sure we could all board on time. At loading time, the crew made sure my mother, who walks with a cane, was given plenty of support getting on the boat and to a comfortable spot on a large beanbag right in the front above the mesh. They even offered to bring her a drink after their 5 minute safety spiel. So thoughtful! The cocktails were tasty, not sure if they were so strong or the ride was bumpy (or maybe I'm just a cheap date these days) but definitely enjoyed the feeling. The crew tending to drinks were super fast in serving and funny to boot. After watching the fireworks we continued on down the Waikiki coastline and took some great pics. The Captain and crew were chatting and interacting with us, felt really special on this boat. There were a couple returners, it was great hearing their positive comments, and a bunch of first-timers too. On our way back, the ride was very smooth (or maybe my buzz faded?) and there was an impromptu dance party inside the cabin and on the deck, fun times!! We purchased GoCity Pass-Oahu and selected Makani Catamaran as our Premier event. They are not offering buffet at this time due to Covid, instead they offer open bar.... I'll take it! Captain Jack, and his first mates Strat and Julie were awesome. Music was good and drinks were following. The weather was PERFECT!! Smooth sailing the entire time and the company aboard were great. I loved Makani Catamaran. The boat was lovely, the views of Waikiki at Sunset cannot be beat, and the drinks were plentiful. The all you can drink wristband was a good value, but the flip side is there were definitely people on our boat who were getting their money's worth from the wristbands....so it was less family friendly than I had originally hoped. Our kids loved dancing to the music, and the weather was beautiful. Overall it was very relaxing and well worth the money. We got to take pictures of our kids "driving the boat" ie holding the captain's wheel. That was adorable and much appreciated. There are two things that I think I would improve. 1.) there was honestly not enough seating/too many people on the boat. I feel like this could vary with passenger composition, if you have more active/dancing people who are moving around, maybe less competition for seats? But on our excursion most people claimed a seat, and sat there. The whole ride. There were no seats the entire time for my family of four. That detracted from the ride. 2.) the boat came back late. I'm sure some people would see that as free extra time, but we had dinner reservations afterwards that we almost missed because the boat came back at 7:20 instead of 7pm. I generally appreciate it when things run on time, so that was a bit stressful for me. And lastly, I have to say I felt good about supporting an all lady crew. That was fantastic to see. My partner and I took advantage of the sunset tour with our GoOahu passes, and it was So worth it! Staff are friendly and willing to have a conversation with you, especially Gary and Poncho. The drinks are delicious and the views from the sail are amazing. The dinner has stopped because of covid, but no reason not to go. I'll definitely come again! read more
