5 star update for one of my go-to lunch spots! Whenever I have a business lunch meeting and want to impress my guest, I always suggest Maki Hibachi. They have great lunch specials and the ambiance is elevated and chic. The service is always quick and top-notch. I'm always surprised by how many people have not been here yet. I guess it's kind of a hidden gem (hidden in plain sight). Parking is easy in the covered garage around back and a big plus that they're open on Mondays. I always struggle to find good lunch spots open on Mondays. I love their NY strip hibachi lunch with noodles and veggies. My favorite apps are the hamachi kamikaze and the tataki (beef or tuna). Went here yesterday expecting great things and we were rather disappointed. I got a NY Strip Hibachi, medium rare. It came medium well to well done. The miso soup was barely warm. However, the ginger salad was delicious! Hubs got a bento box with the teriyaki chicken and it was dry and over cooked as well. The noodles had good flavor. Our server seemed to get busy after delivering our food so we couldn't really bring the issue up to him since it took awhile for him to come back. Tried the Love Moriawase at Maki Hibachi and it was honestly such a solid choice. It came out on a wooden boat and looked amazing right away. You can tell they put effort into the presentation. We chose the sushi-sashimi combo which was six sashimi, three nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. This comes with soup or salad and we chose to get both so paid a $3 ala carte charge. The miso soup was warm and the broth flavorful. They make their ginger salad dressing in house and it was so good my friend took home a container. Honestly the most underrated sushi spot in Orlando, and sad I didn't know about it sooner. The sushi is so fresh and the proportion to rice to fish is unreal especially for affordable it is even in this economy. Overall, this place is great! I have come here for lunch twice and have gotten a seat immediately every time. The restaurant is always busy and has such a great vibe to it. Once seated, I most often order some edamame. I have tried both the salted and spicy, but I definitely prefer a kick. I love the lunch special because it allows you to have options. Typically, I'll choose sushi rolls, because..why not? Their rolls come out relatively quickly from ordering, but you get a lot of pieces so it's definitely filling. I ordered the steamed potstickers once and they were not really anything to write home about. They were a little flavorless, which is one reason for a docked star. I probably wouldn't order them again. The parking is really really tough, so be wary of that. Overall though, the restaurant is definitely worth going to for lunch and for sushi. Went to the Lake Nona location and this place is a gem! The sushi at Maki Hibachi is one the best we've had in Orlando. This is a hidden spot for a good lunch downtown. Considering the parking situation when going downtown, traveling closer to Colonial is a good move to go here. There's always street parking and the food is great! A group of four of us went and had no complaints. The portions are perfect and I have so much I had to take it back to the office. It was promptly devoured later that day. The service is great. I didn't take pictures of my nigiri but the sushi is fresh and tastes great. A smaller portion than I would prefer for the price point but definitely cut to order. I got the insanity roll with 5 different fish but I always have different combinations of fish in my rolls, and this was just extremely fishy. My fiancé got the steak and scallops hibachi and his steak was rubber. It was not good at all. There are no cocktails on the menu, just beer and sake , which I understand! Place is very nice inside, smaller than I imagined, but nice. I bring up the no cocktails because I just don't understand the wow factor here .. Nothing stood out to me. At all. Ok guys, so after hearing so much from my friends of how much they love this place... I decided to try it out for myself. Now, let me just tell ya'll... Maki Hibachi came through with that fresh sushi!! It was the perfect spot for my birthday dinner. The restaurant is located within a mini strip plaza on colonial. Where you could definitely find plenty of parking located in the back garage as well as the front along the street. The decor on the inside was super modern and upscale and well put together. There was also a good amount of tables within the restaurant itself and we were sat immediately. For the drinks, we ordered a large hot sake which was less than $10 and big enough for the 3 of us to share. I also ordered the lychee smash green tea... and boy... that is hands down a must try! It was soo light and refreshing. For the food we ordered a few rolls, including a volcano roll and lobster roll. Not only was it super fresh but the presentation ya'll... was beautiful! The surf and turf hibachi came with noodles, veggies, steak and our choice of seafood (scallops). I was a bit iffy at first, since I usually am not a big hibachi fan at other places...but I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty and large the portions were. We even added on a side of fried rice for like $4 bucks more! Now of course we can't forget to talk about the service. Once we sat, our server was amazing. She was super sweet and attentive. The bento box I ordered for my 2 year old was HUGE. He devoured everything (but the salad which had some of the best ginger dressing ive tried aside from Thai cafe). The sushi rolls were freaking incredible! I was extremely impressed. Started off strong, the calamari and miso soup were really good. The calamari was just crispy enough to give it that perfect crunch. After that however, everything took a turn. Ordered a volcano roll, which looked beautiful, never seen sushi served like that. Excitedly look a bite only to bite into a hard piece of salmon. Okay, pushed that aside, took a bite of the actual sushi and yuk. Idk why it just was not good. Moved on to the main meal, chicken and scallops, once again, beautiful presentation, took first bite, chicken was really dry, like almost inedible.
