Veggie sushi and sweet potato sushi
    Melody L.

I had the veggie spring rolls, ginger salad and veggie sushi and sweet potato sushi. I was the only one in the restaurant but it was early. The service was fast and attentive. I had the mango mochi ice cream for dessert. My only con with this restaurant is that they do not serve any alcohol.

My family took me here for a sushi feast on my birthday, their treat. We went early and it was not crowded at all. They had been there before and said it was VERY GOOD. I think that they are correct. I would actually give Makimoto a 4.3 if I could. Ambiance was QUIET & SERENE. Service was attentive and prompt. I will let the pictures do the talking. Everything was as good as it looks! I would eat here again.

My go to for sushi. Love the layout of this place and the staff are always nice. Great Miso soup, too.

    Spicy Crunch Tuna Roll

Spicy Crunch Tuna roll is one of the best I've had, my girlfriend loved the Gyoza! very friendly, clean and quick service!

I ordered from this place through door dash with another sushi-loving friend of mine. We tried the spicy tuna, crunchy tiger and red tiger. Although very good, I was wanting more in the way of flavor. HOWEVER, it was still tasty, fast , and affordable.

Long overdue for an updated review on Makimoto! Been coming here for at least 6 years now? It truly is the best sushi around the area. Always fresh, good portion, friendly staff, food is consistent, and decent prices. Ordered carry-out and I was happy to see that you could order online. Navigating the online ordering was easy and there are plenty of options to pick from. Made my order, paid online, and my food would be ready in 20 minutes. I got an order edamame, a Sunday Morning roll, and a Philly roll. The edamame was hot and steaming but not very seasoned, so I added some salt. The rolls were perfection. Sunday Morning roll had a good crunch while the Philly roll was creamy goodness between the cream cheese and smoked salmon. Never had a bad meal here and one of my favorites!

Spicy Shrimp Roll and East Roll

I had a taste for sushi while at Great Lakes Crossing mall. After a google search I decided to give them a try. There were only a couple of people inside so I was told I could sit anywhere. Water was immediately brought over and I placed my order. I ordered the veggie spring rolls, spicy shrimp roll and east roll. They started me with miso soup and some pickled cucumbers. Both were quite tasty. The spring rolls came out surprisingly fast. The first bite was ok but the second bite I got a mouthful of cold veggies. I sent them back just as my sushi was coming out. The waiter apologized profusely and verified I didn't want them to make another order of spring rolls. The sushi was tasty but seems to be missing something. I'm not sure what, but the flavors just weren't meshing for me. As I got my bill , a lady, I assume one of the owners came over and apologized for the cold spring rolls. She stated the cook needed a break and she thought she could handle making an order of spring rolls. LOL she told me to make sure I come back and she promises not to cook anything. This place isn't near my home so I probably won't be back.

The stench of smoke hit me when I first walked in the door and I had to ask if they allowed smoking and they said it's wafting from next door and somehow permeates through the wall. For a non-smoker it was noxious and strong, despite it being through a wall. Ordered 3 Cali with green onion and cream cheese and one as a hand roll, spicy Mexican roll, salmon teriyaki roll and salmon teriyaki hand roll and a ginger salad to go. Small cucumber salad comes with the rolls and miso soup. I ordered an additional ginger salad too. The stench of smell and some air freshener kept trickling into my nose as I ate, changed my eating experience immensely. Must do something about the hookah stench. The Cali special rolls were tightly wrapped but I tend to like more avocado and cream cheese in the roll ratio, still not bad. I also prefer the lighter colored ginger, the pink hue of their ginger doesn't appeal to me and I refuse to touch it. The one sushi chef, Jay seems quite friendly, amiable and was receptive to my later add on orders, the other shorter guy that came out had a scowl on his face and were, maybe he had a bad day. Daniela waited on me and she is a great waitress, good and friendly personality, attentive. Luckily the curmudgeon sushi chef went back into the kitchen, the friendly chef finished off my order and brought out all of my food for me.

Best sushi in the area hands down! Their rolls are so creative & delicious, and they use combinations of ingredients that you won't find in other establishments. Highly recommend!

Service was good, but the food I ordered was overcooked. The chicken katsu was hard to eat as it was very tough.

Not really much of an ambiance - it's a very casual place with pretty basic decor. Everyone working there was friendly and our food was brought out to us in a reasonable amount of time. I got the classic tonkotsu ramen and it was really good! The broth was flavorful and complex, the pork was tender, and the egg perfectly jammy. Apparently they make their noodles fresh everyday. The price of a ramen bowl was on par with what I'm used to (~$20 with tax + tip) but the sushi seemed a little pricey. I will have to come back to try it.

Right next to the Barnes and Noble, with free parking right in front always a plus. The set-up is to order up at the counter, assembly-style. Unfortunately, this location didn't have as many of the toppings/menu items I like or am used to (Chicago has spoiled me!); nonetheless, my custom bowl still turned out pretty tasty. The regular size comes with a choice of 2 protein and I went with the ahi tuna and spicy tuna, which were the stars of the show. The brown rice base was a little hard and dry, like they needed to make a new batch. I was indecisive in picking a sauce, and the woman who helped me was really friendly and able to give suggestions. They have a few tables inside, but I ended up taking my order to go. My bowl ended up being around $16 all in. I would definitely recommend if you're nearby and in the mood for a poke bowl!

This place seems to be popular. While overall I liked the experience and want to come back, the base rice was under cooked and very hard and crunchy in the bowl which is why I had to subtract a star. I was hoping for fresh tasting well cooked rice, but it was not. We got two bowls. My child had the spicy salmon and I had the spicy salmon and spicy tuna. The fish tasted fresh and the toppings were very good. I liked the variety of vegetables and many spicy options. I like a light spice that does not take away from the flavor, and this place delivers. I liked the fruit options, not for myself, but when I take my other child here, because I know she would go for the fruits over veg. I liked the sauces and toppings, I had a huge heaping bowl which I actually finished this time since I had a long day ahead of me (or else I would have had leftovers). We also each tried a spam musubi. Those tasted great. I was surprised how soft and tender that rice was compared to the bowl, it was perfect with a pretty good flavor. I asked if they could warm it up more but they said no. It does not quite compare to musubi in Hawaii in quality, temperature or taste and there are some bubble tea places like Quickly that do it better, for a fast food it was good and I would order it again. We also tried their mac salad. I liked the bit of spice and it was nearing Hawaii, so close. I was a bit sad their Hawaiian sun drinks were out, but my child got some POG juice. I like their fun variety of drinks. We do love Hawaiian inspired foods and we are at this shopping area multiple times a month so we will probably come back.
