Best counter service sushi I've ever had. I came here only because of the almost perfect Yell reviews, and they did not disappoint me! I got the salmon bowl (avocado, thinly sliced cukes, raw salmon, and sushi rice) 10/10 Excellent quality salmon, fresh ripe avocado, and I loved that the rice was slightly warm. I do not like cold, stiff sushi rice. Also, the bowl was only $10 I also got a spicy tuna roll, which was delicious. I do not like wasabi, which comes in a tiny bag, but it still did the trick. I think it's just a mental thing. But this is a quick-service restaurant, and I would return, absolutely. The inside is decorated nicely. It's adorable, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

I finally found a good sushi restaurant on the east side. Excellent customer service, delicious food, and a fun atmosphere. I love the salmon nigiri. The bowls had fresh avocado and seafood. I liked the BBQ eel. There is complimentary Japanese tea available as well.

Came here for a carry out order of sushi rolls. Very pleasant counter service and this location is nicely done. The chef's were very efficient and friendly and had my order done in no time at all. The sushi rolls came with several sauces and pickled ginger. The sushi was fresh and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and the price was not bad at all.

My FAVORITE sushi joint when i'm in the area for work, always make time for it. 10/10 interior ambiance, the staff always greets me immediately, quick service and amazing food. My go to is the bbq eel then some nigiri, and everytime the Chef gives me an extra nigiri that's something different for me to try, must visit

The Goblin is one of the better sushi spots I've been to. This is the original location, but there are also locations in Macomb and Southwest Detroit. The nearly all-white interior is trendy and welcoming. The staff here is friendly and efficient. The seafood options are always fresh, and overall, the pricing is fair. As for the sushi specifically, you can't go wrong with any of the menu items. The Alaska, Dragon, and Fire Cracker rolls are all delicious, but of those, I prefer the Alaska. The simpler rolls, such as the salmon and yellowtail, are solid options, as well. The Panda and Penguin trays are great options for larger groups. My go-to dish is the nigiri. I have tried the BBQ eel, bluefin tuna, mackerel, salmon, shrimp, torched scallop, torched squid, and yellowtail. Similar to the rolls, all of these are great options. In short, if you're a sushi lover, this is a must try place.

This is a very casual sushi spot with excellent service. I was surprised by how fresh, subtle and delicate the sushi tasted especially since they serve wasabi in plastic packets. When I asked for miso soup, which wasn't listed on the menu, it was offered dehydrated in a styrofoam cup with plastic shrink wrap. The menu itself is fairly simple and not very extensive but the quality of the sushi more than makes up for it. The sushi alone carries this place surprisingly well.

I felt like the reviews/ratings were too good to be true but this place met my expectations. I ordered food for New Years Eve 15 minutes before they closed and the workers were so nice! I wish I came earlier to sit down, enjoy the food, and ambiance but I'll definitely be coming back. The inside is so cute and neat. My boyfriend and I ordered the Fire Cracker roll, Alaska roll, Nigiri Set with a California roll, and the Bluefin Tuna & Scallion roll. All of which tasted so fresh and yummy especially the Nigiri that just melted on my tongue.

I had this place saved for a long time and finally got to try it out. I am very selective when it comes to my raw fish and only trust a few places (Noble Fish, So Zai, One World Market) and am happy that I can now add The Goblin to my list! The fish tasted fresh and I would say the quality compares to Noble Fish. We got the Goblin Panda Tray which is a great price ($50 for 48 pieces). We had minimal left over and thought it was the perfect portion for 2. We sat at the bar area and the sushi chef was so kind and offered us a free sushi sample as well as a sample of REAL wasabi! The offer complimentary tea and have a variety of Korean snacks (like choco pie) as well as their branded merchandise/apparel for sale.

This place is just awesome! Not only is the sushi fresh and well priced, but the chefs and staff are all so friendly. I've eaten in the restaurant and have gotten take out and both times I left thinking "I love this place!" If you haven't been, you need to!!!

I love this place and the people who work here! Everyone is so nice and the food is so fresh. Not a lot of seating inside but I did notice they were busy with carry outs. It was my sons first time trying sushi so I ordered him the California roll and he didn't like it (he is very picky). The chefs noticed this and made him a cute little grilled salmon creation on top of rice and encouraged him to try it. That was so nice of them. I will definitely return to try more!

They have a menu shortage so we all shared menus which not a big deal, but was strange and made sense why it took so long to get menus after seating. We all ordered cocktails which were very good. We all ordered a bunch of apps as well, the sushi was delicious, the spicy tuna crispy rice was also a favorite. We all ordered entrees which ended up being lack luster. The Asian pepper steak came out cold, which they did remake. The steak used seem to be trimmings of the steaks. It was very tough and fatty. If I have on piece of advice DO NOT ORDER THE TABLE SIDE FRIED RICE. It came out after we were already half way done with our meals, and it's literally on a chilis fajita skillet. They charge $36 and the portion size was maybe 1.5 cups of rice. (See picture, no one had taken any off of the plate) They dump raw egg on it that doesn't fully cook with the skillet, and the sauce on top was so gross. Overall would stop in for some drinks /apps / sushi. But would not get an entree.

I never received my order until 12:45pm. I would come here more often but due to the long waits I probably won't be coming back unless I choose to dine in and i'm not pressed for time. The food however is delicious with lots of gluten free options. You can choose from 3 sizes of bowls: Junior, regular, and large. The base can be white or brown rice and for an up-charge noodles or all veggies. Protein options are chicken, steak, salmon or tofu. The Spicy tofu which indeed was VERY spicy!! The tofu was perfected fried and coated with just the right amount of sauce. I loved how fluffy and sticky the rice was but i wish there were more veggies. I only received one slice of zucchini, no carrots...only broccoli and cabbage. Food gets 4,5 stars but service gets 2/2.5 because of the extremely long waits. Defeats the purpose of doing an online order for a fast and easy pickup.

Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and welcoming, and the manager checked in several times to make sure everything was going well. Owner Bryan stopped by our table as well, reflecting the hospitality that has made this restaurant such a longtime success. The food was equally impressive. From the appetizers to the sushi, noodles, and entrees, every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The spicy tuna crispy rice, lettuce wraps, gyoza, spring rolls, scallion noodles, seafood spicy noodles, Pad Thai, Dragon Roll, Mon Jin Lau fried rice, and even the lychee martinis were all outstanding. More importantly, there wasn't a single dish that disappointed. The entire spread was excellent. What stands out most about Mon Jin Lau is its consistency. There are only two tables to eat at in the front with some decorations, making the inside of the restaurant feel as if you are eating in someone's dining room. The attendant at the front made sure my needs were met despite flying back and forth to deal with constant takeout orders. For my dinner, I ordered the pork pad thai and the thai milk tea, 16 ounces. The meal started with a complimentary chicken and rice soup, served in a small bowl. The broth of the soup was made up of a fatty and rich chicken stock, with a slight aroma of fish sauce and some cracked peppers. As soon as I tasted it, I could tell that the food was going to be quality. The thai milk tea was on the better end. It's not the best thai milk tea I have ever had, but its strong, concentrated flavor got the job done. The pad thai, while not as reddish colored as I have seen other places make it, very much tasted like authentic pad thai. I ordered the dish with the medium spice level, and I was happy to receive the proper Thai medium spiciness, not some watered down version that pulls back on the punches. The pork in the dish was tender, not overcooked or dry. I also appreciated that there wasn't a large amount of bean sprouts dumped onto the meal to make it seem as if the quantity of the food was larger. There was enough food served that I had another whole meal packed in a container at the end. Overall, I'm glad that there is a good Thai option nearby for people to enjoy. I'd love to come back to order some of their other dishes.
