Makukos is the one place I requested to go while in Ensenada. They are famous for their loaded authentic Baja style fish tacos. If you have had Baja style fish tacos anywhere else, this is the standard. The atmosphere is casual, with plastic folding tables, not luxurious, but great for what it is. They have a garnish and salsa bar, so you can dress up your tacos the way you like them: Onion, pickled onion, shredded cabbage, lime, radishes, cucumber, creamy salsa, spicy salsa, etc. Top traffic times can be busy, but the servers are on point and your food is served promptly. If you're ever in Ensenada, Makukos is a must stop.

My husband and I were excited to try this restaurant, as we had read lots of good reviews. Unfortunately, we didn't love what we ordered (fish taco and fresh clam). Both items were okay, but we probably won't ever go back when we are in Ensenada. They did have beautiful balloon decorations for Valentine's Day, which was a very nice touch.

Eating the seafood at Makuko's was a revelation. The fish tacos here were by no means traditional but were super creative and delicious in their own way. The Makuko Taco was made with two corn tortillas topped with an enormous pile of battered fish crumbled into pieces, whole shrimp, and a battered and chopped chile güero (Santa Fe Grande pepper) stuffed with marlin. The taco came without any condiments or sauces, but you could help yourself at the salsa bar to a huge selection of items including chopped cabbage, cabbage slaw, onions, lime, cucumbers, pico de gallo, and a dozen different salsas--my favorites were the crema with cilantro and crema with chipotle. The monstrous fish taco was the definite highlight, but I also had to try their Tostada Especial, a tostada topped with a huge portion of chopped fish ceviche, shrimp, octopus, and scallops, topped with a sweet and acidic salsa negra, onions, avocado, and cucumber slices. The ceviche wasn't the most flavorful I've had but came at an incredible value, given the amount of seafood on the tostada! No wonder this place is so popular!

The place is definitely a place to try! I've been here three times. It definitely hits the spot. My favorite are the philly tacos. Its battered shrimp, yellow chile, and fried cream cheese. My new favorite is the tostada especial! I didn't think their seafood was going to be as good since they're known for their tacos, but its definitely a must try! Pairs great with a coca cola!

This place is sooooo good. Servers are friendly and extremely helpful. We had fish and shrimp taco and aguachiles and they are all amazing.

Overrated and overpriced! The exit/entrance to the parking lot is just one way for both (exit or enter) so it can be chaotic. There's a talkative lady at the parking lot who is talkative because she wants a tip, but she is zero helpful to direct the parking/interior traffic. Inside of the restaurant is very crowded, you can't sit down with enough leg room, I was always concerned from the people behind my back while I was trying to eat. I tried the fish tacos and the shrimp tacos, a friend recommended this place because according to her "-they are good and the portions are generous " She was definitely WRONG The fried batter amount that covers the fish and shrimp taco is tremendous in addition they chopped the fish and shrimp and prepared each taco with 2 tortillas. I forgot to take the picture of the batter I removed from my taco, leaving barely fish/shrimps on my taco. What a joke... I think another reason to chopping the fish is because fish spines comes with it...so be careful while chewing! I'm uploading a picture of one of the fish spines. The tacos are made on the comercial side, looking for profit and that's it. I feel so dissatisfied and ripped off. Ughhh If you have tried the authentic fish tacos from el Fénix, you know what I'm talking about. The service is terrible. I didn't enjoy the food and the place. Not coming back.

Super yummy fish tacos you can top yourself and amazing aguachile molcajete. I wish I could find a place with aguachiles verde but this place was bomb regardless

You have to stop here. The food tastes great. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. Highly recommend it as a lunch spot. Will definitely go back whenever I am there.

Pescado taco, Marlin (smoked) taco, and Camaron taco with chili relleno. All sorts of fresh toppings (watch out for the onion with habanero) and salsas. ALL great. Even better, not a gringo in sight. A nice walk from downtown/embarcadero.

Best fish tacos I've had. I highly recommend this place. The tostada was also delicious.

The "Homie" tacos are the best by far!!! The mix between the shrimp, cheese and pepper is just perfect. I absolutely love this place.

We always come to Ensenada from our Royal Carribean cruise and have been wanting to try this spot…read morefor awhile. Yummy stuff, their fish tacos were delicious. We got beef asada and fried fish pescado. I believe it was only $2.50 per taco so not the cheapest but definitely by far the most affordable and yummy in the touristy area. It's a perfect walkable distance from the cruise port. You can pay USD cash and it shows on their payment terminal the conversion. I don't know how to double check if the conversion was 100% accurate but just from a little google go the current conversion and counting out how many tacos we ordered, everything seemed to check out!! They have tables for you to sit at inside but open facing so you're covered from the sun/rain. It comes with 3 different salsas, bowl of limes, and my favorite part is the grilled jalapeño and green onions - omg so good! I'll definitely be coming back if I'm in town. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the Asada just needed more flavor and not as cooked. I prefer a juicy medium Asada but I know that that's not how it's always eaten, just wish there was more flavor. Coming from Arizona I fortunately get to eat a lot of amazing Mexican food!

They had salsas and radishes on the table. The two tacos came out to $5.29 which is similar to US taco Tuesday pricing. Tastes very authentic.
