I spoke with a woman who I believe was the owner and was scheduling an appointment for a Groupon I had purchased. I had a previous appointment but almost a month prior but canceled due to contracting Covid I have now tested negative and was scheduling another appointment for next weekend. The woman proceeded to ask me numerous times if I was negative and I told her yes over 5 times and also informed her I would NEVER endanger anyone's lives or mine that's why I waited almost a month and a half to reschedule. I then told her she was being rude and making me uncomfortable and she began to scream at me when I told her I felt she was being rude, I then told her i would cancel it if she continued to yell and she got even louder and said cancel it I don't care this is something I've never dealt with one of the most unprofessional spas I've EVER dealt with and I've gotten plenty massages at plenty spas! I was a receptionist for a high end spa in hillcrest for years. She was rude, ignorant, aggressive and the Groupon was very expensive as well. I was really looking forward to the couples massage with my husband as now she had completely ruined the experience and date night I had planned. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SPA THEY ARE RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL & AGGRESSIVE IF I COULD GIVE THIS 1000 THUMBS DOWN I WOULD & NEGATIVE 1000 STARS!!! Worst experience I've ever had with a spa and she barley spoke English which made it even worse. I don't get how they'll take your money and then think they can talk to you anyway you can tell she speaks to a lot of customers like this because she was too comfortable doing it. First the positive: I called to book my first appointment ever here. The man was friendly, informative and nice. I described what I wanted which was a massage to relax, Swedish style massage. I described that I hike 8-10 miles/day at work during the week and simply wanted to relax and not have a deep tissue "working out the kinks" possibly painful type massage since my muscles are already sore. Having looked at their page on Yelp, I saw they offered a 90 min. massage (60min) facial (30 min) combination and I decided to try that since I work outside and apply sunblock all day long. I know I need a deep clean. I'm very new to facials (I've had 2 in life) but I wanted extractions. I mentioned this to him. Then he asked male or female and I said either for the massage is fine but I prefer a female for the facial. Then he said it is one person who does both so I said ok then female please. The negative: I arrive about 7 minutes before my appointment. The people were very friendly and I was shown to my room. Then a man comes in my room. I said oh are you doing my massage? He said yes. So I asked if a woman is doing my facial and he said no. I was so confused because I had just booked a female for both. So he leaves and the front desk woman comes in and says she will do it. I asked if that was ok, I didn't know she was a massage therapist and she was working up front. There was a slight language barrier but it got worked out and she would do both. But I wondered did I just give up the real massage therapist for the front desk person? She started right in didn't ask me questions so I assumed she got the information from the guy I booked it with and didn't want to prolong my massage further and/or have an issue with language barrier. The massage wasn't bad but I don't feel it was Swedish relaxation style which my sore muscles desperately need. I like deep tissue when it's necessary but I really needed relaxation. I couldn't classify this massage as either Swedish or deep tissue. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't what I asked for. Then the facial started and since I've had two I don't know the routine but she pulled my hair back and applied some cream then hot towels and a steamer etc and repeated this. I kept thinking ok well this is what you do before extractions and waited. I've had two facials and they both did steam and some cream before they started extractions. Then she put a gauze type thing on my face with cream on top. All of this is fine BUT then the last hot towel came and then she said she was done!! She never did any extractions!!! I was dumbfounded. It was simply a series of creams or salves rubbed on my face. Nothing I couldn't have done myself at home. Isn't the whole point of a facial to get things done you can't do yourself? I simply wanted extractions and I don't care about all the extra fluff or pampering and that's why I requested that during booking. I am most disappointed by this with the whole experience. I can handle the male/female mix up and the massage that wasn't Swedish but asking for extractions and not getting that I was upset. I wouldn't classify a bunch of creams and towels on my face as a facial. I was explicit on the phone with female, Swedish relaxation and extractions. I spent $90 plus tip and I left very unsatisfied but I had an appointment to get to so I just paid and left. I rarely get massages or facials and I think both are quite expensive. Now I'll have to pay more elsewhere to get another facial with extractions. read more

I would give 4 stars bc the massage and body scrub was good, but the woman who runs the front desk should not have contact with customers unless she was having a bad day. From the moment I walked in she made me feel very unwelcome. She accused me of not answering my phone or answering text messages when I showed her I did confirm my appt. via text. And said bc I had not responded she had assigned my appt to someone else. When I protested and showed her the text message she said that oh yeah I guess you can go. Not a great first impression when you arrive for a day of relaxation.. She never apologized. Will not be returning which is a shame. I bought a 2 groupons for a 30 min swedish or hot stone massage and a 1 hr facial ($69/each). When I called to book my appt I told her that I had the groupon and the lady on the phone refused to give me a weekend appt and kept insisting I come in during times I specifically said I was unavailable (M-F, 8-5). UGH. So annoyed already. Afterwards, I was just not buying it so I had my bf schedule an appt for the weekend for services that took the same amount of time, 1 hr 30min, and she gave him 2 choices of time slots! WTHECK. My bf later called back to say that he had the groupon and she tried to reschedule him, but that she'd call back. My mom & I decided to just go for his appt, when we got there we went back and forth with Jean, the owner I suppose, and she refused to fully honor the groupon. She said that she had an appt right after us and could not do the 30min massage and 1 hr facial. My mom & I didn't know what to do. I felt like getting up and leaving right then and there, but then we asked Jean what she COULD do for us.. So we got mini massages and a 30 min facial. Fine. On top of that I was excited to get a hot stone massage for the first time, but to my dismay Jean said that she could not do that for us because she did not have the time to heat the rocks. My mom even came up with a possible solution of getting our facials while the rocks were heated, then going on to the massage but Jean still refused. Wow. I see this lady specializes in customer service, huh. Soo, if my experience was so bad why the 2 stars you ask? The girl doing my facial, Hillary, was very nice and had some great advice on how to help me keep my skin clear. The facial was great, the massage almost nonexisitent. They rubbed my shoulders and arms here and there. Honestly the point of groupons are to get your name out there and with your great customer service, hope for repeat customers. Unfortunately for this place, that is certainly NOT the case with my mom & I. I don't know how their regular customers deal with Jean. My advice? Find a spa where you can actually relax and where the staff treats you right. read more

My husband got me this groupon for our 1 year anniversary because we were taking a small trip to CA. It was a 30 min Swedish massage and 60 minute facial. Got there about 10 mins before my appointment and she said its a 30 minute wait. So I waited and was in in 30 mins yet saw no one leave. Massage was kinda weird when she asked me to flip over to do my stomach?? Get to the facial and was loving it till it was over 30 mins later... Seriously? Where did my other 30 mins go. I stayed in the room caused didn't know she was done till like 5 mins later she never came back. Will I visit again, nehhh but I live like 6 hours away. Although the couple's massage Groupon was sold out, I balled out of control and booked one anyway. It was clean and quiet, perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon massage. The room they put us in was pretty small, but I imagine it was more inconvenient for the masseuses than for us. Soundtrack was relaxing, the room was juuuuuust bright enough to prevent me from falling into REM. I asked for medium firmness, which was pretty accurate except at the shoulders, but I'm a big baby when it comes to releasing my shoulders anyway. The rest of the massage was great, although I wish she spent more time on my neck area. Afterward I felt like I was floating on a cloud without a care in the world. Unfortunately this was short lived as we couldn't find a place to deliver carne asada fries. For $120 (without tip) the massage was a steal--I will definitely be stopping by if I'm ever in the area again! read more

For my review I am going to copy and paste the letter I am sending to the owner today. I will never go back there because the owner has no idea how a day spa should be run. Read on - January 19, 2013 Dear Ms. Wu, I just left your day spa in Coronado and want to commend you on your choice of an excellent massage therapist - Al, and esthetician - Hilary. I would recommend them to anyone. However, I do not think they will stay with you very long. I must tell you that your unprofessionalism with the yelling at your employee in front of me as I sat less than 2 feet from your desk was one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had in any commercial establishment. I have never experienced anything like it in any day spa I have ever been to. I almost got up and walked out. I came there to relax and escape the stress of the week, and instead felt as if I was invisible while you cursed at your massage therapist. And hearing you tell him he was terrible and didn't know how to do anything right certainly did nothing to prepare me for a relaxing experience. I worked for many years as the front desk manager in the largest day spa in Texas. We had 18 therapists and estheticians, and 3 nail techs. Our appointments were scheduled and rescheduled to suit our clients who were almost all very affluent and demanded the best treatment at all times. When a client walked into the spa, they were met with a serene and quiet atmosphere, and I would always offer them a glass of water, wine, or champagne while they waited. Voices were kept to just above a whisper, there was calming music playing in the background, and at no time did a client hear me or the owner arguing with an employee. If we had an issue with one of the employees, it was discussed in a private meeting at the end of the day. As for my appointment scheduling, Al had scheduled it for 2 p.m. today. I was surprised and a little annoyed when you called me back in an hour and told me you were putting me at 10 a.m., and then in the next sentence, 10:30 a.m. You did not ask me if that was alright, and you actually lied and said that he had not written down my appointment at 2 p.m. I know that because when I was checking out today, I saw my appointment had been at 2, but then changed by you. I can only guess that the reason was because you were trying to fill up the morning slots so you could leave early. I know you owned a spa in China, and things are run differently there, but if you want to see how a real day spa is run here in California, I invite you to make an appointment at Gaia Day Spa in La Jolla, then pattern the running of yours on what you experience when you are there. They are the best in this area. It is no wonder to me that you have to lure clients in with Groupon special offers. read more

I needed a quick lip wax and called. They were able to accommodate me right away and the woman who performed the waxing was very nice. The room however was very dark and she performed the waxing in low lighting. This confused me but I figured she was the professional. She asked me to check the area after we were done and it seemed okay. When I got home and looked in the bathroom, there were plenty of missed spots and hairs. It was a waste of $12. Okay, I just have to consider the fact that I am possibly a biased reviewer, since I have given WAYYY too many five-star ratings, but this place has truly earned it! As the masseuse started the facial, every other body member screamed out "me next, me next!" in unison, all clamoring to be the recipient of this healing treatment. What started out as a 2-hour Men's Day special, soon became an early transition to heaven, or pretty darn close! AND I'M A GUY!! As I informed them of my carpal tunnel syndrome, they paid extra attention to my forearms and wrists, and I almost cried with the instant relief from the chronic aching. I couldn't help but drool when they were working on my back and torso, and when I walked out into the sunlight afterwards, I realized I was cross-eyed for at least 15 minutes from the total relaxation technique I had just experienced. There should be a law against somebody working that hard for two hours physically and only getting compensation for what adds up to be a minimum wage job. That's how inexpensive the special was... So of course I tipped tremendously. Don't waste time with their competitor nearby, they wouldn't give me the time of day on the phone. I recommend making a day of it, by taking the ferry a half a block away to downtown San Diego, and sampling cuisine and shopping, and taking advantage of free parking in the neighborhood on Coronado Island. This is the epitome of the icon of America's Finest City, and as a born-and-raised native, this was my final impression, as we will be moving out of state shortly. Sayonara, San Diego!!! Sent my sons for their first massages and they both came back relaxed and happy. The therapists were professional and very good at their craft. They are located close to the Marriott and close to plenty of shopping and eateries so you can easily stroll along the bay after a relaxing massage. I went to Malahini Day Spa to support my friend and a really awesome Massage Therapist (Dennis Bratton) who just started working there. What a beautiful place! it's a hidden jewel in the city of Coronado. It has a peaceful atmosphere, warm and inviting. Apple another therapist who was there to greet me was cheerful and accommodating. They are open 7 days a week, which I like. When I need a massage I like to know I can go any day of the week. This place was really thought out when the owner put it together. I have a feeling I will be going back for massages and try some of their other services. This place isn't just a spa it is a therapeutic center as well, I know Dennis can treat any painful condition and would highly suggest an appointment with him, for sports, deep tissue as well as give a great pampering relaxing swedish massage and hot stone. The girl I got a massage from, I can't remember her name, had a grip like a longshoreman and a mouth like a sailor. When I rolled onto my back, she lifted my towel more than once and wasn't shy about checking out the goods, I got the feeling that a few dollars more would have sealed the deal. My boyfriend and I had a deep tissue couples massage here a couple days ago for our anniversary. It was our first time here and we thought it was great! Apple and Liz were very friendly and professional and we were extremely relaxed the whole time. I haven't had a massage in years and my lower back and shoulders were well overdue. I purchased two groupons for facial and massage combo for my Mother and I to enjoy for my 25th Birthday. I was really excited because I don't get to get pampered very often so I thought this was a great deal. Man was I dead wrong. I made our initial app for 230pm on weds a day ahead. I received a text message several hours before our appointment to reschedule. OK... so we rescheduled for thurs at 3. We got another text message saying our appointment was back on wtf? I responded by saying that the orginal time no longer worked because my Mom wasn't going to be in town yet and I just said we would take the rescheduled time. She than responded with a different number for me to call because now that wasn't going to work for her. What ever happened to customer service or professionalism for that matter? So I call teh other number and I could not understand the person on the other end(super thick accent) and it was clear she couldn't understand me. We finally figure out after 3 separate phone calls each time her instructing me to call back that 345 on thurs will work she asked that we be 10 minutes early. Ok no prob right? WRONG.We get there 20 minutes early she tells us we are late. I corrected her saying actually we were 20 minutes early our appointment was at 345. She threw some forms at us to fill out LITERALLY through them across the desk. So as we were filling them out she chewed out one of her employees in front of us totally uncool. I don't want to do business with someone who treats their employees like garbage. Then the client before us comes out and flat out these are her exact words. " Just get up and leave don't bother our services were horrible" I said I had purchased a Groupon she said that she had too and that we could get a refund. Needless to say we left. I don't care what the discount is our entire experience was horrible and we didn't even get to the service portion! A day spa is supposed to be relaxing from start to finish none of this was relaxing! read more
