Outside spa

Tucked away from the busy beach town is this hidden gem of a spa. They allow you to use the fitness area and have a jacuzzi that is mainly for spa guests. The jacuzzi spa is in an enclosed area with these beach front views. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. When calling booking an appointment, they answered phone promptly and friendly. I Booked a scrub and massage and felt so relaxed that day. It was the perfect end to the trip.

Enjoyed a couples massage via a gift which was great! Lockers are very clean, filled with amenities, and I appreciated the access to the sauna, steam rooms, rest area with tea. There is an automatic service fee (gratuity of 20%) so keep that in mind as you are paying. The massage therapist was very friendly and attentive to what I wanted to focus on for my massage.

Overall gripe: 50 minute massage was closer to a 30-35 minute massage Visited The Catamaran Spa on our anniversary for a couple's massage. Read on for the Pros and Cons: PROS: ~Overall, well appointed -- full on resort type spa. ~Relaxation lounge featuring tea and flavored water, dim lights, loungers and relaxing music. ~Nice decor with Buddha statues, mosaic tile, warm browns and creams. ~His and her locker rooms with respective sauna and steam rooms (i.e. not co-ed), 3 spacious showers with double privacy curtains, ample towels, robe in locker, key pad locker, spa slippers available, private changing rooms with mirror/hooks/curtain, complimentary toiletries available for use like deodorant, hairbrushes, hairspray, mouthwash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc. Hairdryers, restrooms, cold wash clothes, water in locker room. ~Generally clean, spa attendant is regularly sweeping for used towels, etc. ~When you pay for a treatment, you are able to use the outdoor spa hot tub (small), the steam room, sauna, relaxation room and resort pool and hot tub. ~ You're given 6 hours parking validation. If you use the resort pool (for which you need a wristband) you get given what is essentially a room key card which enabled us to exit the parking lot without a charge. ~Massage technicians were caring and friendly. ~Spa was nice and quiet the day we attended -- I practically had the locker room to myself most of the time. ~Nice gift shop off reception. ~The resort is attractive with a tropical feel. There are parrots on display (at certain times), a couple of restaurants featuring large fish tanks, a beach, a walking path and water activity rentals available. ~Rhe resort pool a few minutes walk from the spa featured live music, pool towels and food/beverage. CONS: ~We paid for a 50 minute massage, but the massage felt rushed and by my watch it was actually closer to a 30 or 35 minute massage. We paid around $400 for the two of us -- I honestly felt ripped off. I mentioned it to the front desk on the way out, but they just sloughed it off. For this reason, I would not recommend it. The actual massage was average. ~Front desk staff were not that personable. When we arrived they basically shoved a clipboard under our noses to sign the waiver and didn't say much. ~The female spa attendant that guided me around the spa was aloof, not warm and friendly. She neglected to tell me spa slippers were available. ~A bit of 'coming and going' by staff in the relaxation lounge. You could also hear hair dryers and the rumble of a tumble dryer. ~ Sauna and steam room are not co-ed, so you're sat there by yourself wishing you could be with your honey. ~I was not able to make a couples massage appointment on-line, I had to call. ~The relaxation room, massage oil, steam/sauna could have done with a bit of aromatherapy scent. The massage oil smelled like Canola. ~The spa is looking slightly tired in places. ~The outdoor spa hot tub fits about 4 people and is in a cramped corner of a patio overlooking the grass, lots of people walking by. ~If you visit the resort pool, be prepared for it to be crowded with lots of families. (Summer anyway). An overall 'okay' experience, marred by a massage that felt rushed and was definitely not as long as the 50 minutes advertised.

Taking advantage of the beach chairs available right outside of the spa on the public beach!

If I could give this place a higher review I would! We purchased two 50 minute massages and spent several hours enjoying the amenities. We left more relaxed and happy than we could have imagined. The massages were perfect, from the pressure to the kindness of the staff! We then grabbed some fresh fruit and made our way to the public beach and soaked in some sun before heading back for some time in the hot tub. Before we left, we each took advantage of the infused showers. Although we checked out after a few hours to explore San Diego, they were so kind in reminding us that we had access to the facility until 9pm! Highly recommend!! I can't wait to bring more family members on future trips!

I loved, loved, LOVED the spa. I mean, I seriously fucking loved the spa. If I lived in SD, I'd be a regular. I'd probably get a part time job there so I could get a discount though, cause it ain't cheap. So make sure if you schedule an appointment for a service of any kind, be sure to make use of all the wunderbar perks that come with it. Even if you're the last appointment of the day, you get to enjoy all the amenities as soon as they open in the am. You check in, get your orientation, locker, robe and spa shoes and they set you free to enjoy all the amenities which include: -Beach front hot tub under palm trees surrounded by gardenias. -Beach front fitness room -The world's dreamiest locker room that has EVERYTHING a girl could want (including showers with fruit infused water OMFG! it's SO beautiful. -Cedar sauna -Eucalyptus steam room that smells like heaven -Fruit infused spa water, hot tea and fruit -Relaxation room that I swear, is literally the most relaxing place I've ever been in my life. You can spend the whole day bouncing between all the amenities with no limitations. I get palpitations just recalling how absolutely wonderful the spa was. The massages weren't the best I've ever had, but when you take into account use of all the facilities for the entire day, it's an amazing deal. I HIGHLY recommend visitors to San Diego take a trip to the Catamaran Spa. The staff and facilities are wonderful. It's an experience I will NEVER forget. I generally don't revisit places, cause after all, there's so much world to see, but the Spa undoubtably warrants return visits.

Totally worth it to book a facial or massage and just spend the day in the gym, hot tub, steam and sauna room.

Hiding the review because he said they would implement a procedural approach to make sure this doesn't happen to others. He also offered us a free couples massage at another time. It turns out the massage therapists are independent contractors who only see their schedule unless they look at the others. So there wasn't something specific on a general schedule that showed the room was already booked. Meaning it was easy for something like this to happen. They were going to add a step that the massage therapists need to check the upcoming schedule for the couples room before using it. The couple that wound up in there had booked two separate rooms online (because you have to call to book the couples room) then asked to move it to the couples room when they showed up 30 min before we were scheduled. I hope they follow through on their plan to add a process fix. No massages for us! Edit: It gets worse! When they called me to apologize at first the guy was saying it wasn't their fault because the location to a first come first served basis. It absolutely is your fault (as a company if you allow your only couples room to be double booked!) Turns out that a couple booked massaged online for 30min before us. However you can't book the couples room. So when they showed up they asked for the couples room and were given it despite the fact that we had it booked starting at 1pm. Not cool! I literally called instead of booking online since you can't book the couples room online. (Doing the massage another day is easier said than done for a variety of reasons.) Just showed up for our couples massage appointment to find out that the couples room was already being used. I was really looking forward to our day date while kids are out of town so I'm bummed. The woman helping us said she would talk to the manager about waiving our same day cancellation fee since we didn't want to get two separate massages. Yeah, not paying that! She also mentioned that they do double book rooms when I asked what happened. So, this can't be an uncommon event. Amazed by all the great reviews if this is how they do business! The woman who helped us was quite polite Andi don't have any issue with her. Also the place looked nice on the inside. But what a bad approach to booking!

It is not a Burke's, woodhouse Day Spa or a hotel Spa. I've been there and prefer this place if you want a very good deep tissue massage. The room is not fancy, but it is clean and all the rooms have doors. I had Tina today and she did such a good job. I regularly get massages once a month. I am sad I don't live close by. She knew that my shoulders were knotted and spent a lot of time getting all the knots out. She knows her anatomy and often checked in to see if I was doing okay. She offered some herbal Chinese medicine, I think it is similar to biofreeze. I took the chance and glad I tried it. I feel like a new person.

If you are more high maintenance and want all the extras and more expensive spa features this may not be the place for you, but giving that as a warning now so someone with that type of lifestyle doesn't go in thinking it's something it's not. I really feel like I have to leave a review because some of the negative reviews almost discouraged me from going here, but I am SO glad I did. About 2 weeks ago I strained a muscle in my left upper back and another just deep to my L shoulder blade. I have background in PT and work in healthcare so I tried to resolve it myself with no avail. In the field I work in, I am axial loading A LOT, carrying heavy bags, gear, and equipment. This week I told myself I NEEDED to get a massage. I've gotten several over the years as someone with Thoracic (70deg) and lumbar (50deg) severe scoliosis. I got a 90min full body massage today for $90. I had Lucy and she was GREAT! I showed her the areas I was having tightness and she worked that out and more in the first 30 minutes. I was skeptical at first because the first 30 mins of the massage were dry with no lotion, but I think that was intentional to work out the knots that I had throughout my back. For the next 30 mins, she used lotion and primarily continued on my whole back, neck, and upper glute area. Last 30 minutes she covered my limbs front/back and chest area. I am a 5'2, 160 lbs, solid, athletic build female. My masseuse was probably no more than 120lbs but you wouldn't have known it. She used leverage to really get into the areas I had problems with and I left as a satisfied customer feeling much looser in my upper back. Definitely will be back and recommend! Things to consider: *For the price, you're not getting a fancy place. For some the sheet may be too small/not enough coverage. If that's something that is a concern for you I would recommend bringing a sheet of your own along for extra draping and/or asking for an additional sheet. It didn't bother me, but I saw that was a complaint below. *Walls and doors are thin. If you're going there for a muted experience where you only hear the music in the background, not a place for you. (I'm super easy and low maintenance so that wasn't bothersome for me, but I could see how that might bother someone else.) *They do not do an intake/waiver form like other fancier places do. If that's something that will bother you, I think that's a good thing to inform as well. They have an eastern medicine approach (not bothersome to me but maybe to others)

My first impressions of the spa were that it was a bit outdated and could use some renovations and modernization. The check-in / waiting areas included a random chair for hair service and a small area for pedicures. The lady at the desk was friendly and showed me to the locker room. The locker room was small, but had sauna, showers, and some toiletry type items that you would expect in a spa. I was provided a robe and while it was clean, I instantly thought this looks super old and well used. I sat in the relaxation room, that more felt like a Dr waiting room other than the relaxing music and fresh fruit available. My massage therapist was very friendly and asked me questions regarding injuries, allergies, focus areas, and pressure prior to starting. I had the 50 min drift full body massage and I felt it was just ok. I've tried out quite a few spas in the area and I've had better experiences elsewhere. I also thought it was very pricey for a 50 min massage ($204 with gratuity already included) when I've had better massages in the area at the normal 60 min time for less money. I did enjoy the small jacuzzi after my massage and I was lucky enough that I was the only one there because the area is quite small.
