Pretty inside and very attentive, lovely servers. I made it known I didn't like spicy and was assured it wouldn't be a problem. I tried the Tiger Cry beef & it was very flavorful. Then had the garlic shrimp as an entree. Both were excellent. Looking forward to trying more items at this place. For what it's worth, I overheard a lady telling her server that it was the best Thai she'd ever had and that she KNEW her Thai food. I am not an expert on Thai food but this place is good. To further confirm my ignorance I don't even know what I had. A delicious noodle dish recommended by the waitress. I asked her what was most popular she recommended it and I am happy. The restaurant is unassuming outside but surprisingly nice inside. The service was quick and very attentive. It's a good place to get thai food in Lee's Summit where the options are limited. The atmosphere was a little dark, but the service was amazing. All of our food came out quick and hot. We stopped by for lunch and ordered Pad See Eaw, Green Curry, and Calamari. Our mistake was ordering the calamari which was 75% flour, and 25% squid... but other than the calamari the food was still pretty good! Would recommend if a friend was in Lee's Summit. read more

We had a really lovely supper here tonight! We started with the Mali Thai Roll - super delicious. Crab and cream cheese spring roll with sweet chili sauce topped with roasted peanuts. Fresh ingredients, well crafted. We had mango and milk boba; the mango was delicious, but we didn't prefer the milk boba. For our main dish, I got the Pad Thai, and he got one of the curry dishes. His had chicken, potatoes, rice, and curry sauce. He quite enjoyed it, however it did have more of a kick to it than "mild". We would call it a "roasty" flavor with warmth. The portion sizes are very generous, and I felt that the value was good considering how delicious and plentiful the food was and how nice the ambiance is. Love this place! Has some of the best pad thai I've had, with just a teeny bit of extra sweetness that really makes the flavors pop.

Ambiance: Nice thematic decor with dark rich woods. Service was a little lacking and we often had to wait or flag down a person despite being there when the place was relatively empty. Food: We shared some Tom yum soup and I can honestly say it's one of the best I've had even in comparison to San Diego and Thailand. The green curry was delicious and quite true to my experiences in Thailand with the baby eggplant and strong coconut milk flavor. It had a nice clean taste and wasn't overly heavy or just purely bell peppers like other places I've been. My wife had the panang curry which was by far the star of the evening, it had an extremely rich and savory-sweet flavor which makes you want to drink the curry straight. I will say they used peanut butter which isn't the most authentic but I won't argue with the results. Finding kaffir lime leaves and galangal in our food were reassuring signs they're using authentic ingredients. Overall this is one of the best and most authentic Thai restaurants I've been too although the service can be a little lacking at times. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in town and would highly recommend it to anyone. read more

This visit was for a to-go order: soft spring rolls (chicken) & shrimp pad Thai (lunch version). Service was prompt and payment on their portable tablet register was easy. Entree was hot & fresh when received. But regarding flavor, we certainly did not have the "best Thai in KC" experience. The spring rolls (3 to an order, about the size of egg rolls) came with an underwhelming watery sweet & sour-type sauce. The wrapping job was good; they held their shape. However, they are stuffed with iceberg lettuce (chemically, flavorless), green onion, carrot, soft noodles, & chicken ground so fine that its mouthfeel resembled sawdust. I agree with other reviewers--order 1 spice level hotter than what you are hoping for, as they are conservative on their heat. As per usual, the amount of shrimp in their pad Thai is proportionately stingy. I can understand that move if you're charging the same for any choice of proteins...but if you're going to charge more for shrimp, add the same amount to the dish as you would chicken, etc. Overall, if you happen to be in this area, it is a better choice of food than the surrounding chain restaurants, and we do enjoy their soups and Thai basil dishes. But there are a few other spots in KC metro that simply do both these standard Thai-American dishes with loads more pizzazz, for about the same price. read more

Ok, so we're kind of Asian food snobs. We've been to a lot of the good fusion places on both coasts and eaten at the source. Not to say we're looking for the authentic experience, just that it needs to be above average to keep our attention. Mali Thai looks very nondescript from the outside. The inside feels like a blend between a typical Thai restaurant, a Hawaiian place, and a sports bar. Now to the food. Very good! They can spice to taste and everything we ordered was good for our group of 16. The drunken noodles were a bit different from standard fare, but solid. A good judge of a Thai restaurant. The prices were extremely reasonable, if not a bargain. For a delicious Sunday lunch, we all left happy. I think we need to head back soon. read more

I wish I could give this place a rating based on the food. This rating is based on the service which I did not get. I visited this restaurant at 1:40 on Friday 2/4/2022. When I walked in and looked in the dining room, there were people at two tables. The wait staff came looked in my direction but did not greet me or inquire as to what I wanted. I waited and this happen 3 times with different members of the wait staff. After waiting about 7 minutes in an uncrowded restaurant and not been acknowledged, I left. This restaurant is located on a strip mall that is not lit very well so it might be difficult to notice Mali Thai Bistro when you are visiting for the first time. Upon entering, the interior was decorated with a lot of Asian sculptures and elephants. I was really taken back with how beautiful the interior was designed. Great, warm first impression for the atmosphere. We were seated quickly. It took awhile for our waitress, who was an older lady, to come to us and pour us water. We needed a few minutes to figure out what we wanted so the waitress gave us some time. "Some" time turned out to be a long time. I closed my menu to signify that we were ready to order, but the waitress didn't come for another 15 minutes. Although the restaurant wasn't packed, I reasoned our wait on the fact that it was a Friday night. Once she took our order, it took about 30-45 minutes for the food to arrive, which we thought was a pretty long wait especially since the restaurant had emptied out by then. I noticed that other people around us had not received their food either. Once the food came out, I noticed that the portions were bigger than that of Thai Spice. The pad thai is better than that of Thai Spice's. My entree (Pad Sew Eaew) was delicious, but not memorable. The prices are usual prices for Thai food. Overall, the food was good, but not on my top places to go for Thai food. I think I would have enjoyed this place more if the service was better and the wait time was not so long. We will have to visit once more to see if it is any better. read more

I had overlooked this place at the end of a strip center on Melody Lane. I have also picked up lots of food from another Chinese place there in the center, but had not realized there was a Thai place sort of around the bend from there. And it is good! I have ordered for take out only, but the inside of the restaurant looks very nice and I will have to try it sometime. Waiting at the bar area sometimes for my food to finish I noted they have a selection of craft beers on draft including Bells Two Hearted Ale, which is a favorite of my son's and that I have never seen anywhere else. The food is solid for what I have ordered there. I always judge a Thai restaurant on their basil fried rice and curries and Mali Thai's offerings are first rate and the best I have tried near Lee's Summit. And when asking for spicy food they will deliver what you request- as hot as you like. This has been pretty much what my go to orders have been. I did try to order their green bean chicken, but when I arrived I was told they had no green beans. I also got the pad Thai once, but it seemed under sauced and the noodles were all stuck together, but still tasty. Recommended to try for Thai food seekers! read more
