Been coming to Thai Spice for years now and have always had good experiences but tonight's carry out was a pretty pitiful display. When I was picking up the order, a young man said "I can ring you up" and proceeded to hold his hand out. I asked to see my ticket before paying to make sure everything was right and he seemed put off by the request. When I got home, my wife's yellow curry had pieces of potato and carrot in it that were totally raw. Not soft or firm, but totally hard. My chili chicken was watery and the chicken tasted old and rubbery and the veggies in the dish were also raw. The most depressing part though was the crab rangoon. I know they are usually smaller, but I didn't mind because they always had good filling. This batch tonight was embarrassingly under filled and for $10 I would expect to at least get a quarter of my moneys worth in cream cheese. To make it worse we found a stray hair in the to go box with the crab rangoons. Again, I love this restaurant and they could've just been having a rough night in the kitchen and front of house, but I'm not sure if my $50 ticket is worth what I am getting anymore. read more

First time checking this place. It was steady busy for a lunch time on Sunday. I started with the Thai spice sampler of egg rolls, spring rolls and crab Rangoon. Overall very good. The egg rolls had a unique taste to them. I couldn't put my finger on it. I thought the crab Rangoon was small in size but maybe because I got the sampler? The Pad Thai with chicken was good. I have eaten at Thai Spice for years - it's always been one of my favorite places to meet friends for a delicious casual lunch. My favorite dish is Ginger Delight. I get it almost every time. Sadly, the last time I went, I got my usual, and it was not good. The description on the menu says it has "assorted veggies," and if you look at the photo of this dish on their online menu, you can see it has lots of colorful vegetables including baby corn, green beans, carrots, mushrooms, celery, sweet peppers, etc. Yesterday, I was underwhelmed and surprised. There was chicken , yes, but the "assorted veggies" was five pieces of celery and 3 mushroom slices! All drowned in a ridiculous amount of sauce. Really gloppy and unappealing. And, it was barely warm!! When I expressed my disappointment to the waitress, she tried to tell me that only the "Veggie Lovers" had vegetables. NO. I've gotten this dish for years, and it always had lots of vegetables. The waitress did then bring me a small dish of steamed carrots and a broccoli floret, but I will think twice before I recommend Thai Spice to anyone again. Evidently, the quality has really gone downhill. So sad. My friend ordered Pineapple Fried Rice, and she said it also was short of the usual ingredients. We were excited to try this restaurant, as there are a couple of them in the Lee's Summit area and they are well reviewed and rated on Yelp. Our server, Sammy, was amazing! She answered all of the questions of two first-time guests with ease and aplomb. She was incredibly helpful and pleasant. We started out with the Siam Rolls, which were just okay. Not much going on with them. The dipping sauce was amazing. I thought the rolls themselves were pretty bland and pedestrian, however, my wife thought they were the best thing that we had. She took them home and ate them two more times. I am glad she enjoyed them. I had the Thai Spice Noodle with pork, which was one of the house specialties and absolutely fantastic! 9/10, would order again. The pork was a little chewy and overcooked, but there was a ton of it. Great value. My wife got the Signature Fried Rice with shrimp, which was HUGE! She loved it! I also thought it was good. She ate the shrimp out of it, so she could eat it twice more at home, adding her own protein. Great deal. Since we were new to this place, we ordered everything mild and got the spice tray. That was perfect. I like things much spicier than my wife, but this way she can try my dish before I kick it up to be too hot for her. We love sharing. I thought the Thai Spice Noodle was considerably better than the fried rice. She liked hers better. Next time we'll probably do the Drunken Noodles and a green curry. I have been to this place twice in the past few weeks. My first order was vegan panang curry with tofu. It was tasty and delicious. Lots of tofu and veggies. My second order was quite disappointing. I ordered sweet and sour dish with tofu for myself and wonton soup for my father. The sweet and sour dish was inedible. It tasted mostly like straight vinegar sauce. (Also, I did not care for warm cucumbers.) My dad, who loves all food and eats everything, said that the wonton soup was bland and tasted like dishwater. TLDR: food was tasty & the service was great too :) The menu had a great variety & all of the dishes were well priced. Appetizers/small plates: We started with gyoza (both fried & steamed) as well as tuna crispy rice. The rice wasn't at all crispy, more negiri style, which was disappointing but it tasted good. The fried gyoza were great & the sauce even better! The steamed dumplings were cold, not even lukewarm. We also got the yellowtail jalapeno sashimi & it was great too (didn't say it had maguro on top but that's ok, it tasted great). Entrees: Wow these plates were huuuuge, The drunken noodles were full of fresh veggies & the shrimp cooked perfectly! My niece got chicken fried rice & it could have fed 3 kiddos. She loved it. Okay I am very amazed at this place! There was a posting to give everybody heads up that this place is short staffed. So if you're going to be making a review please be mindful that they gave a heads up that their shortstaff. Anyway having said thay they're short staffed. I got my food really fast I would say 3 to 4 minutes tops for appetizer. And after that I got my main course. That was a smooth transition and that was really cool! It was pretty busy for being short staff and our server always filled our drinks and checked up on us. I browse through the menu and you cannot get bored of this! This place was relatively busy during dinner time on a Friday night. Nice ambiance inside. They must own two restaurants that are adjacent to each other. Left is a Thai restaurant and to the right is a Sushi restaurant. We were seated on the right where they had a sushi bar in the back. Extensive menu for both with authentic traditional Thai dishes on the menu. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and my friend ordered the Ga Pow Chicken. Price seem a little high compared to other Thai places but the food is very good. There are also some outdoor seating in the front. read more

What a pleasant surprise coming across such a fantastic authentic Thai restaurant while visiting friends in Kansas City. Thai Spice was recommended by my friends who gave me a bunch of options on where to go for lunch or dinner while I was in town. Honestly, I did not have high expectations since Thai restaurants are a dime a dozen in California and along the West Coast. Thai Spice is located in a small shopping strip and there was plenty of parking when we arrived. We didn't have any reservations but were promptly seated upon arrival. For our dining experience we chose the fresh tofu spring rolls as an appetizer which I found okay but not great. We also had the deep fried tofu (medium spicy) Red Curry entrée which imho was on par with a lot of my favorite Thai restaurants (if not better) and it didn't disappoint a bit. My only recommendation would be to add more bamboo shoots and some more fresh basil leaves. The best and most delicious dish was my friend's chili chicken which completely took me by surprise. Though she ordered mild, I found that her dish had a nicer kick to it than mine. The pineapples and the red bell peppers, yellow onion and a hint of garlic plus whole cashews mixed all well together with the lightly fried chicken and made it so delicious and flavorful. While neither dish was served with rice it should have been offered while ordering. 4.5 stars for reasonably priced food and friendly service! I'll be back Enjoy and Bon Appetit. read more

Oh man. I ordered a regular pad Thai from here having been so excited that a place with good reviews was so close by. I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I can't really talk about their service since my husband is the one who placed the order on the phone and picked up the order but let me tell you it was probably the worst pad Thai I've ever had. It was way too citrusy and really dry. I couldn't pull any noodles from my plate without it totally coagulating together into a single noodle mound. I had a few bites and had to stop eating it. It tasted and felt as if it was someone else's old leftovers both in flavor and consistency. I'm now a bit too traumatized at this time to try other Thai places in the area because Thai Spice had good reviews and I've never been so let down before by fellow elites reviews!! Been going here for years. Not anymore. I ordered my usual Panang Curry which is usually very good with thick coconut cream sauce. This time my curry was a very watery tasteless piece that was more soupy than my wife's soup. I called to talk to the manager to ask if this was a new direction or one time occurrence but they were too busy to take my call, even though when I picked it up they were all just standing around. My husband and I love Thai food, so we decided to give this place a try for dinner last night. It wasn't bad, but it isn't worth returning. We got the Sampler as an appetizer along with a dragon roll. The server didn't bring the soy sauce until after we had eaten the dragon roll, but it's okay. We got along without it. The sampler was good. The server warned us a couple of times that their spice level runs hot, so to keep that in mind while ordering. My husband ordered Pad Thai with a mild heat level. He said it was fine, and he received a large portion. I ordered Cashew Chicken at their mild plus level thinking that would be close to a medium at other restaurants. What I got was a very small dinner portion...even my husband remarked on how small it was compared to his...almost no spice at all, a tiny portion of rice, and they forgot to put the cashews in my Cashew Chicken. The server came back to check on us halfway through our entrees, and they did end up bringing me a small bowl of cashews because we didn't have time for them to cook my entree again. My almost 2-year-old daughter had the chicken nuggets and French fries. While that isn't Thai food, it's worth noting that they charge $5.95 for kids' chicken nuggets and if you'd like French fries, they charge an additional $1. Definitely overpriced for a kid's meal. The restaurant was decently clean. My daughter found gum stuck under the table and the sticky/gunky bathroom door needs some attention, but otherwise, it appeared to be clean. The server was very nice though! We liked her! In the end, we wanted Thai food, and we ate Thai food. We probably won't be back as the food was just okay, and the prices were on the higher side. read more

So I decided to order a lunch plate online, paid for it, and went to go pick it up. I got to the location and they informed me that they had no history of my order. I realized I had picked the wrong location for my order, which was 20 mins further away from my location. I called and explained the situation and they refused to give me a refund, as the food had already been made. Then they offered me store credit or "half" of my money back. I'm sorry is this a restaurant or GameStop?? If a customer were to sit down at your place of business, order food, receive said food, and send it back because they are unpleased with the product, you would issue a refund. In my case, I never received the food, as I was at a different location! No professionalism. Customer service is non-existent. Sorry excuse for a "Thai" restaurant, for the food is average AT BEST for what you can find in the State of Missouri. Might as well go to Panda Express. Food is laughable. If I'm going to spend $20 on Thai food I expect it to have some type of originality and not just changing the name of the entrée with it being the same thing! Just because you name an entrée Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon doesn't mean I'm going to be blown away by the dish. Do better. Wait, you can't. P.S. Bland, but I'll probably eat there again. I could've ordered something with more taste, so the bland is my fault. I asked for mild spices, but didn't expect no spice. I ordered the eggplant with chicken. But I saw a yummier entree pass by me. It looked to be orange chicken, or something close to that. The man in the next booth asked the waitress what the dish was, but I didn't catch it. My entree was huge, and I have enough for a second meal. The white rice was on the small serving size. It was just okay. I ordered crab ragoon, and loved the presentation. I will return just to order the crab ragoon again. I thought the prices were a bit high, higher than I'd normally spend.
