If you are looking for basic lawn maintenance, mowing, edging, shrub trimming etc... This is not the company to hire. Mr. R. Melton was a pleasant enough salesman when we walked him through what we felt we wanted for our maintenance service he agreed to everything and wrote everything down as we spoke. He agreed to everything and then gave us a bid for $300.00 a month for all we talked about. The one thing we talked in length about during and on more then one occasion was how we wanted to ensure the scope of work that was being discussed would happen and happen without us having to over see what they were doing weekly. He on more that one occasion agreed and ensured us that that would not be a problem because he would be sending a team of three to ensure the work was be done. The service discussed was as follows: 1) Backyard clean-up including weeds and all shrubs and edging after that then weekly maintenance would begin. 2) Because of my business being located inside the gazebo I asked that his workers take care as to not blow to many leaves under it. 2) Front yard maintenance ensuring the shrubs were trimmed weeds attended to and edging done. He did state that the backyard clean-up would take a while...we understood thinking they would do a little every week. We were not given a invoice , at that time, for the scope of work discussed at that time .Mr. R. Melton stated he would send it to us. And he did...a week later with an attached invoice for the $300.00 payment due December 1, 2024. The scope of work invoice just stated "Standard Level Maintenance" "Backyard every other week". No break down of the scope of work we discussed on our walk. Now, for the first week: Tree Cut Down: Great job! and we paid when the work was done. Front yard-mowed and edged----A blower was used on the Backyard only---all leaves on the lower half were blown under the gazebo and left there. As they were leaving I asked one of the guys if they were going to trim the big shrub--he says "you want that cut too"? The second week: 3 guys-- Nothing done in backyard--Front yard mowed and edged---One guy working, 2 guys sitting in truck doing nothing. ok...nothing was being done as we were told it would be. I called Malibu Canyon. No Answer. Left Message. I called the next day. No Answer. Left Message. I called the following day. No Answer. Left Message. I located another number on Monday and finally got a person. I explained what was happening and tried to let them know I would be ending doing business with them and needed to know how much my bill would be as they had been out twice at this time plus the day they cut down the tree (already paid for). The manager could not tell me and told me I needed to talk to the original sales manager first. Why? Then he told me it would be $150.00 and/or half and I would receive a new invoice today and/or tomorrow. That never happened. Today I received a call from Mr. R. Melton our sales person. I tried to explain what happened thinking since he had walked us on day one and understood what we were paying for he would be understanding...Nope...Instead he over talked me--Got upset if I tried to finish what I was saying...and gave a million excuses/reasons for why his crew didn't know what they were suppose to do. Now, I admit I am direct, but, not rude..I tried to explain that his guys did not know what they were suppose to do and that $300.00 a month for just doing the front yard and then to watch 2 out of 3 guys just sitting in their truck was not ok...He said that his guys were not walked because he hurried to get us started and the next week he was on vacation. ok...I guess I needed to be understanding...but...not him about my concerns? So....god bless me for asking how much I owed...this was the last straw...I told him he they had been out 2 times and he shouted back...it was 3...and that his company was not a fly by night gardening service they are a company, they have books that need to be look at and other things to look at before they can tell me.....ok...that was rude... I tried to explain it was 2 times plus the tree trimming which was paid for. He said he was done with this conversation and then Hung Up on me...yes! hung up on me....ok... Although long......all that has been written is the truth...honestly the truth. Today...Humm...I feel as if Mr. R. Melton is very nice when bidding new clients and becomes intimidating to his customers when we call out issues and/or problems by talking over them, not listening, and only giving excuses and not solutions to the issues the customer is having. read more

The MCLM company constructed the hard scape portion around my pool.. they were great to work with, we worked as a team to build an awesome waterfall and raised deck with natural stone and pavers. Unfortunately a few years later I had an issue with some settling. I hired them after a previous landscape company charged me for things he did not do. I was desperate and hired LCLM. They completed the work which was supposed to be done by previous landscaper. I had a clogged drain under my patio, which this previous landscaper told me could not be cleared and I would have to dig up my patio. LCLM did unclog the drain of roots. Im hoping the pipe is fixed . I haven't turned on that portion of sprinklers for dirt to dry up. Make sure you get a copy of proposal you sign. We worked with MCLM on our front and backyard project, and they did an amazing job! We met with Brooke initially, who did the walk through and helped us envision the final layout. Afterwards, he handed us over to his manager Jon who was very knowledgable of the specifics of trees/plants/flowers we would use around the home. We just bought a new house that had dirt for a back yard. I called MCLM and spoke with Israel to set up an appointment and he was able to come out the very next day and get me an estimate within 24 hrs. We had amazing crews come out and work on our yard for the landscape and hardscape. These guys worked hard all day and cleaned up the yard at the end of each day. They were always very friendly. Israel came out to the house everyday that the guys were working to check the progress and to see if I had any questions or concerns. Even as the guys were working we were able to make some changes to the original plan with no problems. We had a great experience working with MCLM and Israel. We did a complete renovation of our house and yard. We hired Malibu Canyon Landscaping to do all the planting, irrigation, and lighting. When some of the bushes started to look dead after a couple of months I called them and referred to the guarantee. They told me to give the plants some time and if they did not recover to contact them again so they could be replaced, After another few months the bushes had still not recovered. Now Malibu Canyon Landscaping answer was "too late, the warranty has expired". My experience with this company is that they know very little about plants and gardening. After reading through the reviews of this company I definitely know I am not alone in my opinion. It seems if you hire this company to do hard scaping you will be happy and if you are an out of state landlord you will be completely scammed. We are local landlords so our experience is a little different. This company was maintaining a house we purchased as a rental. Their maintenance monthly fee was more than double market rate so we cancelled service. My husband and I somehow both paid the same invoice for the last month of service at this property. The company cashed two checks from the same bank account with the same names on them for the same amount on the same day. Any honest, detail oriented person would've noticed our mistake and called us. The woman in the office cashed both checks. When I saw both checks clear our account I figured it out and called her. She basically told me that my husband and I writing to checks for the same invoice was not her problem. She didn't even think she needed to refund us! She said her company's policy was no refunds! I told her that was stealing and threatened small claims court before she agreed to call the owner and ask him. My husband called as well and got the same craziness. She eventually agreed to send a refund check which mysteriously got lost in the mail. We dealt with this for a another month or two. The only way she would issue another check was if WE paid the $30 stop payment. My husband was so sick of the drama he agreed. At this point we had to wait another two weeks for the owner to get back from vacation to sign the subsequent check. I do not deal well with people who take advantage of me But this situation left me powerless except to write this yelp review and let other customers know of their fraudulent behavior. The icing on this crappy cake is when we got the final check and she did the math wrong! The original refund should have been for $210 so minus the $30 stop payment fee would have been $180 instead the final refund check was for $168 you guys figure that one out. read more

I paid $550 for MCLM to plant a 24 inch box tree in my front yard. One year later santa ana winds blew the tree over. They didn't give the tree any support besides the one small stake the tree came with taped to its trunk. I called when the tree blew over and was told they could come look at it in a couple of weeks an give me an estimate to fix it. I voiced my concern over them charging more money to fix something they did incorrectly the first time. I never heard from them again! read more

I hired MCLM last summer for a full backyard renovation and I'm thrilled with the outcome. They did a fantastic job on all the work and we're very happy with it. Israel, the project manager, was an absolute pleasure to work with and the guys they brought in were very professional, including their subcontractors, which included carpenters, concrete guys, roofers, electricians, painters, turf and landscapers. Their work is a bit pricey, but I found the craftsmanship to be top notch. On the negative side it took several months to start the project once they had my deposit, and I came very close to cancelling the job. Also, their invoicing leaves something to be desired and was not handled as professionally as the rest of their work. Ultimately I was charged more for some things than were initially agreed upon and was even sent a rather large bill after I was told the job was fully paid. In the end, we negotiated the final payment and I'm satisfied with the outcome. Ultimately, the work done was so good it was worth some of the headaches, but just make sure you have things spelled out clearly ahead of time so you get exactly what you want. read more

Unless you can constantly monitor and view their work, BEWARE of MCLM!! As an out of state landlord, I rely on the reputation, diligence and honesty of companies I hire to take care of my rental property. I also rely on my tenant's communications if these companies don't perform their work as contracted. Although my tenant sent me photos and told me all MCLM did was mow & blow (spend maybe 10 minutes at my house) on a regular basis, whenever I called management & remind them of their responsibility to maintain, trim bushes, and keep the yard looking fresh & well-kept, NOTHING EVER CHANGED! I am visiting the house now and see vegetation overgrown, bushes either dead or very unkempt, and my grass dying of a virus. They blame the tenant for not having access to the sprinkler controls. My tenant works from home and claims no one ever knocked on her door. Malibu never once called me to tell me there was a problem. I have been paying them $150 (now $175!) to kill the plants THEY planted, spread a killer virus in my grass (that had to be completely killed and removed now), and ignore weeds, overgrowth in the yard???? I also just paid them more than $1,600 to clear overgrowth on my back hill (not a normal service) and they did such a horrible job that I had to pay another company to complete the job. Calling and writing the owners about the bad clearing job did nothing at all. COMPLETELY IGNORED ANY COMPLAINTS OR REQUESTS FOR A RESPONSE!!! This has been going on for years fighting to get the services I pay for---and nothing ever changes. Although they may have good reviews on social media, I wonder how many of these reviewers don't actually live at their properties??? If I could give them ZERO STARS, I would. read more

They have never missed one day's scheduled maintenance (other than rain days) and our garden and yard look amazing! We hired them to landscape our yard after a major renovation. The project manager Christian we had was rude from the beginning and if we were not in a time crunch I should have hired another company. The work they did was okay after micro managing them but I had to ban Christian from our house and requested to only deal with his assistant. They specifically told me the plants were warrantied for 90 days. Some of them died within that time but then they refused to replace them. They also forgot to hook up our overfill drain and charged us $325 to hook it up after the fact. Then they told us they would replace the dead plants and shrubs for a cost of $525. We told them to forget about it. They have very bad customer service, terrible management and they do not stand behind their work. They are the worst and I would never hire them again. If you are reading this and considering hiring them then you should not hire them either. They suck. Hire someone who appreciates your business and stands behind the work they do. read more

We have had Malibu Canyon Landscape servicing our house for years, and yes it looks worse than ever. We planted over 20 new trees and they where fine for almost a year until we asked them to check our irrigation. After that, half of them are now dead or almost dead due to there lack of adjusting the timer correctly and adjusting the heads. What are they going to do about it. They stated they could charge us more money then we already paid them to quote replace the irrigation with a bubbler heads. Really it wasn't because you turned the irrigation down to 1 min every other day for almost a month. read more

Do NOT use this company, it was the worst experience we have ever had. They would not replace plants that did not transfer well and died that were still under warranty. They did the hardscape around our pool and patio area. They did not finish the back of the pool and left unfinished work until we complained repetitively. They did a color stain on our concrete to match our rock around the pool, after about 6 months dirt and dust started to sink into the stain, which we could not remove even with professional cleaners. Christian, from the company came out and said, "It did not look that bad." He was disrespectful, condescending, and did nothing to help us. We contacted another company that said that either they used a cheap sealer or did a bad job sealing it. We paid a lot of money for this and now have to have it re-done by someone else. I recently used MCLM to clean up my entire front and back yard (no easy job), trim a lot of trees, plant new ground cover and bushes (while removing the old), and audit and update the irrigation system. Overall, I had a good experience. John did a good job communicating what needed to be done and overseeing the entire job. He was very responsive to my emails and easy to deal with. On the ground, so to speak,. Pablo did a great job managing the workers (who all did a great job) and addressing our specific concerns about this or that. In all, they did what their quote indicated they would do and did it to my satisfaction. I would recommend them. read more

My experience with MCLM was mixed. Some good points and others not very good. Overall, the finished product was decent. My issues with them were the fact their "customer service" was unacceptable and they were considerably over-priced which I found out too late so that was my fault. If you sign any contract with them you MUST make sure everything you want is specifically spelled out exactly. I wanted to make a few changes after the contract was signed and they charged me what I felt was overly inflated additional amounts for the additional work I wanted done. I didn't want to get another contractor so I was stuck. I did check other contractors for the additional work and their prices were approximately half of MCLM. They also delayed finishing my project because they were working on other projects at the same time. Weeks after the job was completed the owner walked into my backyard unannounced to look at the finished job plus "pavers" I had another contractor install because MCLM's price was about 50% higher. Two words come to mind.... Trespassing and Unprofessional. I do not recommend them. read more

I cannot say enough about MCLM. I was introduced to them through California Pools. MCLM did the hardscape and the landscape around my new pool. Both the hardscape and landscape has turned out to be everything that I have wanted. Israel Gonzalez is the person that I specifically dealt with and he made the experience what it was. He essentially was the main reason the project was a success. He was responsive, collaborative, reasonable, helpful, and more. He listened to what I wanted and made it happen. He also suggested improvements to the functionality of certain aspects of the hardscape/landscape design such as changing a plant bed landing area that was supposed to be between the pool slide and the pool into hardscape to offer a walking and sitting area as well as prevent dirt from easily entering the pool. MCLM now does our yard maintenance and they are detailed oriented with the yard and they make suggestions on watering and other aspects to keep the yard looking as amazing as they created it. We have had 2-3 other yard maintenance companies and have found they just a "blow and mow" type of service. With MCLM you feel like they are actually paying attention to your yard. read more
