Updating my previous review. Pictures are from previous visits. Went yesterday 12.19.24 and was charged a second charge on my credit card from the angry man behind the counter. I was charged an additional amount clearing my bank account out evenly. Business has gone down hill fast. Men behind the counter raise their voices at you, talk on their phones in a different language while closing out your sale. Prices are doubled compared to other stores nearby. When walking in, the store in overpacked with items. Who knows how old some of the items they are selling are. Check your code dates people! I will not be returning to this establishment after frequenting it for the past 5 years. Stealing money in more ways than one! read more

The good: They have a nice bakery, sandwich, pizzas, and have a juice /smoothies/coffee area. The salad bar area has my favorites: Mac N Cheese, Chinese sweet and sour chicken, baked teriyaki salmon, quinoa salad. They have fancy cheeses, luxurious wines and ice cold ciders. They have an extensive kombucha selection as well. The Bad: everything was double the price it regularly is at the other supermarkets. Extremely over priced. I also saw they do not accept EBT for those that have it. Also the parking lot situation is not sexy. Super crowded and sardine packed. Red Alert Red Alert The best sandwich in Malibu- by far, is at The Malibu Ranch Market, literally an LA style liquor store/bodega with everything from Beach chairs to beverages, sponges to candy to work gloves to milk and eggs- located dead in the center on the bottom floor of a wacky Malibu podunk oddly shaped shoppping center on PCH directly across the street from the entrance to the Zuma Beach parking lots. It's a perfect store, there's literally everything you forget to take to the beach they have, everything you forget for your house they have, everything you forget for your life they have. Need sunglasses they have. Headphones, chargers, pails, shovels , scissors, everything. But the only thing that's SPECIAL is the tuna sandwich. I have mixed feelings about writing this review because this is my discovery and I've enjoyed keeping it a secret, only shared with a select few. Somehow today I have had a change of heart. One day a few years ago I played tennis up the street from this place and I was starved and was going to go to the beach. I went in and I saw these prepared sandwiches in plastic containers spread out sparsely in a deli case. Now I have never bought a prepared tuna sandwich in a deli counter in a wacky store with all sorts of things in it but it caught my eye. There were a lot of little details that peaked my curiosity- in short they looked like they had been carefully prepared, the opposite of premade sandwiches you see at airports for example. they were wrapped nicely in paper and had a napkin neatly folded inside the container. I asked the serious looking guy at the cash register how the tuna sandwich was and his dead eyes sparkled for a second - he looked at me and said " very good" in what i think was an accent from The Baltics. It was reminiscent to me of the time the artist Banksy sold original work at a stand outside of Central Park, and when someone purchased a piece the attendant gave a unusual nod and hug of approval. "Something is going on with these sandwiches", I said to myself. I bought one and headed to the beach. It's delicious, the bread is just a regular loaf of multigrain wheat I reckon, it holds the sandwich just perfect. No need for some fancy stupid bread. The tuna has a delicious quality that I've never tasted before, it's got some mustard, perfect celery, just excellent flavor. Then there are pickles in every bite, odd i know, but it's stellar. I have tested this sandwich out on multiple friends and they all concur, it's an outstanding sandwich..They also make a spicy tuna that has a sriracha vibe, the best thing to do is to buy one of each and mix and match. They're both phenomenal. It's 6.99 and it's a culinary delight. read more

Or go to stop and staying in the area. They are open early as well as late which makes it extremely easy on your way to or from the beach. Beware they are sketchy and will overcharge you or charge you a completely different price. Went to get a Red Bull and the store clerk said it would be $6.53 and when I checked my bank statements they charged me a different amount that was way more than the sale price. Driving up the PCH on our impromtu beach day we decided we needed some provisions. Luckily Malibu Ranch Market was right there to supply us with everything we needed. They have a great selection of wines and beers as well as non-alcoholic beverages. The candy selection is not your standard, but rather there is some creativity and thought -- there was a "Hello Kitty" candy necklace I just had to have. They even have a great stock of beach toys for the kiddies should you find yourself without a bucket and shovel for Zuma Beach right across the way. Oh and PS the clerk is one of the nicest fellows ever. It's worth a drive to Malibu just to stop by and say hi. Impromptu day or planned I would add this to your list beforehand to get all needed supplies for your day in the surf and sand. (Was that a haiku? Poetry? I went in yesterday ( 11/29/20) to get Diet Coke around 8 pm. The younger clerk who was working was not wearing a mask. I asked him why he was not wearing a mask, and he said "he didn't feel the need to"... even though our city was about to go into a shut down the following day. The positive: This place is good if you want to make a quick stop for snacks and beer. I used to come here all the time when i was in high school. it was the perfect stopping place on the way to the beach.They have a great selection of snack foods, wine, beer, coffee, and desserts.The guy at the checkout was less than friendly. He cross examined her I.D (we are in our 30s) and did not seem to know how to smile. The negative: We went to the deli counter to order sandwiches for the beach. There were two people in front of us who had just placed their order. We ordered four sandwiches/wraps for our group....we waited 30 minutes for our sandwiches. Over the course of the 30 minutes the women at the counter asked us three times what we wanted in our sandwich. We finally got them..walked across the street to the beach, and opened our sandwiches. Although good taste, the bread had already turned to mush and the wrap had completely fallen apart. Hopefully they were just short handed on the day we came in but I am not in a hurry to come back, nor can I recommend stopping here for a sandwich if you are actually trying to hit the beach before sundown! read more

Malibu Ranch Market is located inside a big convenience store. The sandwiches are quite large and will set you back about $10. I had the zuma club sandwich, which is black forest ham, mesquite smoke turkey, bacon, cheddar, red onion, lettuce and tomato. The lettuce they use is mixed greens and they lightly dress the greens. Not a bad touch, but it does get a little soggy if you save this huge sandwich for later. The sandwich itself was not bad. It was much tastier when it was fresh, but it was a bit too salty for my taste. I like the large selection of drinks (beer, wine, soda) at the convenience store, and there's lots of chips to choose from to accompany your sandwich. I would give this place another try when I'm in the area again. They also sell burritos too! Note: No place to eat. This place is a hidden gem. The liquor store has everything you could every want, a huge selection of premium beers and wines, a great candy selection, and a great deli. The lady who makes the sandwiches is a doll and the sandwiches them selves are more than exceptional ( I recommend a turkey bacon swiss on white ciabatta ). The guy who runs the liquor store part couldn't be any nicer and it is always a pleasure to stop by and say high. Either if i just got done working out at the gym upstairs or headed to zuma beach i always try to stop by and give these guys business because the service is amazing and the food is great this place is seriously a gem. read more

First of all my standards are not that high. I came in hungry as shit expecting any decent sandwich to taste delicious. The sandwich artist proclaimed that all the sandwiches were amazing and full of meat. He failed to mention that this meat was not fit for purina dog food. It reminded me of Oscar Meyer Bologna and had a rubbery after taste that prevented me from eating most of the sandwich. I left ten dollars poorer and hungry. I went here after reading the other reviews on my road trip from San Diego to San Francisco. I had the Broad Beach Chicken Sandwich ($8.99) and it didn't disappoint. I can't say it's the best sandwich I've ever had, but the ingredients (avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion) were fresh and the bread (wheat ciabatta) was excellent. Location (right across from Zuma beach) is also good. Service wasn't exactly friendly and was sort of slow (even though there were only 2 other people in there), but not a big deal--it's just a stop-in deli/snack shop after all. SO INCREDIBLY BAAAAAAD! I got the Malibu Ranch Sandwich for $9 plus tax, which supposedly has all these great things in it. There was only ONE tiny, severely slim SLICE of each thing. One turkey, one ham, one cheese, one tomato, one lettuce (all deli thin). The dry bread was five times larger than the stuff inside. They were also too CHEAP to put mayo/mustard on both sides of the bread. And, to top it off, it wasn't even fresh. I got it from the "deli" fridge but there was no one there actually making the sandwiches at 3:30p on Saturday. What the heck? How is it possible they say they have a deli? It comes with 2 big chunks of pickles and we paid 75 cents more for a small thing of potato salad. We took it to go and ate it at the beach - perfect combo! Don't go to this market because I literally paid 3.45 dollars for a gallon of water and then I went to the store called Pavilion; and same brand a gallon of water was 1 dollar in Pavilion in Malibu like 1 mile away.
