Came here on a whim when I was charging our car and boy was it a good call. Definitely very happy with the beer. Had the hatch green chili michalada and it was excellent. Also tried the Ahi and sandwich and the smash burger and not be were fantastic. Fries were amazing especially with ranch. Service was perfect. Definitely recommend this spot. I really wanted to like Malibu Brewing Company. The location is great, the presentation was excellent, and I have to give a lot of credit to the staff. The service and hospitality were genuinely wonderful. Unfortunately, the food and beer didn't come close to matching the experience. I started with the Happy Days Honey Blonde Ale, which I understand is one of their most awarded beers. I was pretty surprised by how little flavor it had. It was nearly flavorless and honestly difficult to finish. I'd rather have a Bud Light, which somehow has more flavor. For food, I ordered the MBC Smashburger. It sounded like a winner from the description and looked fantastic when it arrived, but after the first bite, I knew something was off. The meat had virtually no seasoning or flavor. Even a basic amount of salt would have made a huge difference. The burger came with their house-made potato chips, which again looked great, but unfortunately had the exact same problem. They tasted like plain fried potatoes with seemingly no salt or seasoning at all. I don't know if the kitchen was simply having an off day, but overlooking something as fundamental as seasoning, especially salt, is pretty disappointing for food at this price point. There was clearly effort put into the presentation, but presentation only gets you so far when the food itself lacks flavor. Great location, excellent hospitality, and very friendly service, but based on the beer and food I had, there's a lot of room for improvement in the kitchen and brewery. read more

Food solid, beer solid. Beautiful venue with great lawn area that my wife and I were hoping to make a staple for our us and our 1.5 year old son. That was until our last trip. It was early dinner (~445pm) and it was busy, but drinks took about 25 mins to show up and once the food came my order was wrong- no huge deal- this stuff happens and is not the reason for my post (although frustrating). My wife wanted to enjoy her drink (once it finally showed up) so I took our son out to the lawn to run around. As my son and I were walking back inside, not one but TWO separate staff members violently collided with me while carrying my infant son, one employee of which almost knocked him out of my arms. You'd think that would have at least warranted some level of "sorry" or even an "excuse me" but sadly neither were provided. Just extremely distasteful behavior. Busy restaurant is one thing and as a former restaurant employee I 100% understand how anxious and crazy that can be, but multiple employees rushing and pushing into/passed customers with small children is just foolish and dangerous. Was it busy and hectic? Sure, but when it is two employees in a row, thats not an accident- thats company culture. My son was visibly shaken up by the whole ordeal. Bathroom situation is also a disaster. Two one person bathrooms for what can be a VERY packed restaurant. Line is so long people try to go to other stores/Starbucks to use the facilities which also sucks. To summarize: Long waits for food drinks, long waits for bathroom, inattentive waitresses, oh and don't forget the mosh pit culture of staff unwilling to even be courteous when they knock into infant children. Stop packing so many people into your business if you cant handle the volume. read more

Malibu Brewing might be a default for me when visiting Malibu. Real close to the beach, family friendly and lots of things around. Ordered a sandwich and fried fish tacos. These tacos were MASSIVE. They're mostly breading but they were satisfyingly crispy and a hefty amount of slaw. These are a showstopper. The sandwich however lacked seasoning I think but the cook was great. Ask for extra jus if you need it to enjoy it better. Mac and cheese were default, nothing spectacular but I'm sure it's an ol' reliable for most. read more

Have been here twice, love the food, the beer is good. Love the ceviche and the different BBQ dishes. The service has been solid each time. The vibe inside is pretty nice as well. My only gripe I've had was the first timed the wait was an hour so I wanted to get a beer and wait out front in the only waiting area and the bartender said I couldn't take the beer outside but I saw others doing the same thing. I came into Malibu Brewing to treat myself to lunch after spending the early afternoon at the tide pools at Leo Carrillo. I had a hard time finding it (My GPS led me astray), but once I did I sat at the bar. I didn't catch the name of my bartender but he was very hospitable and I ended up having the Hazy IPA he recommended (I don't remember the name). I ordered some Brisket Tacos, which were so good! Generously portioned and served with chips and a salsa on the side. The Brisket Tacos did an excellent job at capturing traditionally Hispanic flavors with somewhat of an American twist. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the brew. I love a good hazy, bodied, light on the stomach and the tongue. The food was good even though we just got apps lol we were there for the beer. Super yummy and refreshing love the canyon spritz do yourself a favor and get that one. The service was great our waiter was very nice and attentive. The hostess did rub me the wrong way she gave a rude attitude she had a sense of superiority when I was giving her my number for the waitlist and then it looked like she got bothered that another worker say us quickly instead of making us wait 20 minutes. This is located right next to Starbucks in the Vintage Grocers lot. Parking is definitely an issue here. This looks to be a new build out and it shows. The place was pretty much packed on a Saturday. Luckily, we found 2 seats at the bar and removed our names from the waitlist. We ordered some food (chips & salsa, ceviche & street corn) along with a couple of beers. They also have wine, but no cocktails that I can remember seeing. The food overall was bland and just ok. I wouldn't come back for the food. I thought the Pacific Gold was refreshing and light, but the Undertow tasted watered down. It wasn't great. Overall, I would still come back here after a day at the beach to hydrate, but I wouldn't come here for the food. read more

The salad comes with greens, grains, corn, Borracho beans, southwest goddess + cotija. This was the cleanest southwest salad I've ever eaten - it wasn't weighed down by a ton of stuff or dressing. I also love the addition of the grains. It gave the salad a nice texture and made it feel a little more filling. Ten. Will order again. It wasn't all salads and beer for us. The MBC smashburger ($16) was delish as well, though I'd order a salad over the burger. The merch is cute. It's giving Madhappy if it's not already Madhappy. Malibu Brewing is cool. The bread was good but the inside was equivalent to a mediocre pot roast. It was well presented and great customer service but the chips and dip & buffalo wings appetizers were subpar. A restaurant with a great atmosphere and proximity to the beach across the street, but I cannot recommend the food. He was terrific and patiently answered all questions. If you're coming for beer, both their IPAS are really good. I would rank the Wild Grove over Hippie Van Hazy. Their Canyon was the perfect pairing with the poached pear salad. The turkey melt wasn't really a melt, but that turned out to be a good thing. The roasted turkey was outstanding. Went here on Father's Day. It was a long line so we waited about 40 minutes. Got to walk around the area and there's some cool shops nearby. We brought our puppy so got to sit outside at a shared table. That was a nice setting and people are friendly. I had a taster of beer and tried to get some of their more award-winning brews. I would say there was nothing substantially great or substantially bad about them, kind of run-of-the-mill beers. For food, we got the Southwest salad, which I would say was big enough to serve the entire shared table of about six people. We also got the seared Ahi tuna sandwich, which I would say was delicious but I suspect it may have been the culprit of about three days of stomach issues. I also had the sweet potato fries with a couple of different dipping sauces. So either the tuna or the dipping sauces definitely carried some bacteria that caused issues for a couple of days. I sincerely hope it wasn't the ahi tuna sandwich because it was tasty. Overall, I have some mixed emotions on this place, but it was pretty good so I am willing to give it another chance. read more

This tends to be our go-to spot after a weekend of camping nearby. They have a wide selection of beers and their food has always been tasty. They have indoor and patio seating, and the place has a casual-trendy vibe to it. I've tried tried the smash burger as well as their short rib sandwich and loved both. The short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth and also large enough to possibly save a portion for a snack later. We also ordered the hot wings to share which were okay but on the dry side. The roasted veggies for the kids were also a bit bland and mushy. During this visit we were informed that the brewery is opening a second location in calabasas at a former brewery. Opening around spring time. We are excited to hear this as the location will provide a great outdoor location on Kanan road. We just had drinks and fries. As a non beer drinker: I'm glad that they provide a solid local non sweet cider on tap. Please continue to provide non sweet ciders please. Also they offer wine and some basic mix cocktails. My pup and I stopped by here for lunch recently after hanging out at the nearby dog beach. There was a (very) short wait on a nice Saturday afternoon. We got a large bench table all to ourselves. Parking: Free in the shopping center lot, didn't have a problem finding a spot even though it was busy. Dogs: Allowed on the patio but they don't have a dog-specific menu. There were several other pups there during our visit, all well behaved. They brought her water out with mine, I didn't even have to ask. Service: Great, very friendly, from the host to our server, all were great. Food: I ordered the chips and dip trio. The chips were good, the salsas were okay, but the queso was kind of strange in my opinion. It's cold, which I knew, but between that and just the way everything is chopped in it - not my thing. I also got the fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries. The sandwich was really good - chicken was juicy and hot - but the fries left a little to be desired. They needed to be hotter and a little crispier - it gave the impression they may have been sitting out for a bit. My pup had grilled chicken - it was a good sized portion and she had 0 complaints, per usual. Drinks: I ordered the Happy Days blonde ale - highly recommend! Wow, this restaurant stoped using seed oils for frying, they use Zero Acre as their frying oil, a seedless oil which I know is way more money than regular canola oil) So for those looking for a place to eat that stopped using seed oils, you have plenty here, plus they also grill. My favorite dish is the turkey burned ends salad or the grilled fish tacos, and new on the menu are the lamb burgers. I feel the staff is relentlessly on top of their service and everyone working here has a great attitude. Wonderful and modern location just off of the coast highway. It is in the corner of a small mall that I did not see the first time and ended up parking and walking until I found it. Very clean and pleasant craft beer and grill location with many sports TV's. You can sit outside on a deck as well. I did not see any seating facing the beach, but very open and nice. There is bar seating as well. Beer and food are the main draw. Limited wine options and that is about it for alcohol. But I love beer. The tap list was well sorted by types of brew and alcohol ratings, but also included information on awards. I got a flight and my wife had a lemonade. We shared a Mediterranean Board and Catch of Day Tacos, served with chips and salsa. Prepared quickly and served at a good temp, and tasty. The catch of the day was options including salmon and shrimp, and we chose halibut. flour and corn tortilla options. Service was great by staff, our actual server did check on us but would disappear and come back while most of the service was done by others including the host and kitchen staff. We had an amazing experience with Malibu Brewing Company for our car club outing! A few weeks ago, Joe called me back almost immediately after I submitted our reservation to confirm all the details. Fast forward to today, our headcount had grown, and when I called to see if we could add space, they let me know another party was booked but promised to do their best using their open tables and bar area. When we arrived, the entire staff was incredibly welcoming and managed to comfortably seat our whole group. The food, drinks, and service were outstanding from start to finish. My wife tried the 7 ounce coconut chocolate beer, which she enjoyed. The food is fresh and tasty and prices very reasonable for a restaurant across PCH from the beach in Malibu. I am so shocked by the good reviews of this place. I was misled by them and so I wanted to provide an honest review for your consideration. The food is bad. Like bad, bad. Buffalo chicken dip: way too salty, and weirdly wet. Where's the cheese man? Shrimp tacos: The shrimp appeared to be made by a 3D printer. Tiny, flavorless, and overcooked. Smashburger: absolutely no flavor. I have never seen my boyfriend only eat half his burger and not take leftovers. Soup of the day: not as described. Drinks: very very meh. I ordered two and drank about half of each. Service: very very slow. They need more servers for the number of tables. Bathrooms: only two bathrooms for a massive restaurant. There is always a line. Employees also waiting in said line. TL;DR: Uninspired food and drink created for the midwestern palate in an establishment unprepared to handle the number of guests it desires to serve. read more

The Place- Welcoming with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. I enjoyed sitting outdoors and feeling the nice cool breeze. While it does not have an ocean view you still get the nice weather and the ocean is just across the street. It was packed and very noisy inside but spacious enough where we didn't feel like we were crammed inside. Just unfortunate we had a hard time hearing each other due to the noise level. The waitstaff were fine, nothing out of this world but not bad service. And they were clearly busy so we certainly weren't expecting them to be at our beck and call. I had the happy days and another beer which i am blanking on the name. The happy days was out of this world good. I also like they have the option for 3oz pours. The food is where they lost me. We had the 505 flatbread which tasted like an overpriced lunchable with green chilis thrown on top. They then called us in and sat us inside and the manager (maybe she's a manager she is pregnant) argued that we never said we wanted to sit outside. They couldn't seat us despite having at least ten open tables because they took too many reservations.
