Sucks to give a 2 star and I even contemplated a 1 star. Gwen and I love Cuban food as she's half Cuban and we love exploring new places. Since we have kids at Pepperdine now we'd been to Ollo across the street and a few other pretty solid places in Malibu. So, our hopes were high for Cafe Habana, even though I had already seen the avg. 3 star Yelp reviews. I wonder if the owner has seen the comments or even cares. It kind of baffles me. So, I'll tell you of our stop at Cafe Habana for an app and drinks. When we parked and walked up, we'd been in the same center a few times and it the atmosphere is great - very Malibu. Btw, just prior we were shopping in Whole Foods and who is right next to us, none other than Nick Cage. Seriously. I know many celebs are around there but Nick is another level. You could tell even the folks working in the store were noticing. Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. Back to Cafe Habana. As we entered, it was a cool open feel. But that quickly changed. We walked into the bar area and felt a little unsure of where to go. A guy to the left of us was maybe a worker, maybe? He kind of asked us a question but immediately we thought this guy is high. Through some mumbled dialogue on his part we worked out that we wanted a table. He asked if we had a reservation and we didn't - but, the place was mostly empty - so that was odd. Wondering if we weren't good enough to eat there, we almost considered leaving. We were sat at the very entrance to the outdoor space on a small two top. Next to us was a table of 4 seated very comfortably on a giant wrap around. And as we sat and waited for some attention from a server we listened to the owner (we think) come mingle with this four top. To each their own, but it was just plan odd. He bragged about his celeb status - I've never heard of him - and went on about himself while the 4 top half feigned interest. Gwen and I were just wanting to leave at this point. But, the server came. So, we ordered nachos and two drinks. Pictured are our nachos. Lemme break it down for you... 1 - menu isn't very Cuban at all 2 - nachos were a 4/10 (they literally squeezed the sour cream on as you can tell from the pic - sloppy for the price and place) 3 - drink were mediocre too 4 - bill was over $85 with tip I would visit again if a lot of that changed, but I'm quite hesitant.

I'm shocked this place doesn't have a higher rating, my boyfriend and I had a great time here. We split the fish tacos which were some of the best I've had, and the rice that they came with was delicious. We also got ceviche, chips and salsa and a prickly pear margarita. The restaurant itself was super cute and the staff were awesome. Everything was 10/10 and we'll definitely be back, this is for sure one of our new fav spots in Malibu.

We ordered Mahi taco entree, guac & chips..

Where's the FLAVOR??!! Was the chef sick today?? Coming from a Latina family, we love REAL good food!! We ordered mahi taco entree and guacamole w/chips. Salsa came in 2 small containers that was like having tomato sauce from a can. No spice, no salt, no chilies. Food was bland, again no flavor. Guacamole was bland, no veggies added, no spice, no salt. Chips were stale, cold and again no salt added. I wish I cooked at home tonight! Maybe next time CH?!

I know people have mixed feeling but I think you just have to order the right things The fish tacos are great, the salmon burger is fire, the salmon was good. We made a reservation for 16 people one day before pre-grad night for a late dinner and they were able to accommodate us, great for large parties!

Excellent location, wonderful Malibu restaurant. Enjoyed my drink tremendously, the Manager even went to get the bottle for me from the back, and the food was on point. Great for locals and tourists alike. It's so moody here at night, really love it!

Stopped by to check out this cuban hideaway by the beach. Service was decent and food was good. They've got a great covered outdoor patio where we enjoyed our dinner and the drinks were delicious. Definitely not a bad spot to stop by if you're in the area, though better cuban food can definitely be had elsewhere. Solid 4 out of 5 stars!

Love this spot! Been going here for years. I pick up the fish tacos at least once a week and they never disappoint! Also, the drinks are amazing!

The food was amazing in the place. I really liked the chicken tinga tacos. Only thing is that the corn tortillas fall apart which is expected. The service was great the waiter was very attentive. Sat outside in patio. The ambiance was great, I liked the wall painting and fresh plants bordering the patio.

It's almost like a farm setting and sorta lit up like Christmas it's very beautiful with all the lights. We stopped to grab a coffee at the coffee shop there and it was honestly not that great, they were very sweet the girl working there I do remember that. But their coffee was not that great. The dinner we had was nice but it was outside and it was freezing. So we were all shivering and by the time our food came out everything was pretty cold. The entire hotel was not busy there wasn't that many people there. Kind of a shame since you think it would be since it is beautiful there. The rooms were interesting and across from each other, however I loved the little fire pit they had in the middle of the outside area going back and forth to the rooms. The kids had a blast though they had fun running back and forth and they do leave a lot of yummy snacks around which was really nice. The customer service was not bad not the best but not bad! Everyone was nice but things took extra long when it shouldn't when no one was really there. I hope next time we visit this hotel it will be busier. But it's a very unique kind of a hotel and very gorgeous. At least check it out once. Have a really beautiful day :) Be kind to everyone - Aloha

The oysters are fresh, and there is a nice selection. The sourdough bread is lovely, served with delicious- butter, salt and radishes and it is complimenttary which many places no longer offer. Service had issues because a couple of dishes were not what we asked for but thankfully they fixed the issues. Even still my husband tipped 100% because that is who he is. I ordered the crab claws and they should be removed from the menu. I did not send them back because we had already had several issues and at that point I decided I would only return to this location for an iced tea and shrimp cocktail if I were in the area. Most of the claws were inedible, full of black slime, dirt, and who knows what else but it was disgusting. There is no other word I can use to sugar coat this. These are not stone crab claws from Florida if that is what you are looking for but they are stone crab claw pricing. It had zero flavor, and I couldn't eat half the bunch. The sauce, however, was perfect. But I wanted to enjoy the crab, not the sauce. We had the Greek Dorade fish and for $58, it was embarrassingly tiny. Less than an appetizer portion. Not a meal. The fish itself tasted wonderful but it needs appropriate pricing, even if it is shipped from overseas. $58 made no sense for a palm-sized fish. The wedge salad is just ok. The ranch should be more elevated. I love ranch, but I did not enjoy this one at all.I will not leave less stars than 5 because I don't believe in hurting a business because I genuinely want to see this place thrive. However, I do believe in taking feedback seriously and making changes.

The whole area…read morearound it is nice too with other restaurants and shops nearby, so it's a good place to walk around before or after dinner. There's also a huge parking structure. We went on a Saturday around 3pm after the beach and it was busy, but we still got seated right away for 2 people. We sat inside near the windows and honestly it still felt like we were part of the outdoor seating with the ocean breeze and open vibe. Our server Brandon was great..super friendly with a good attitude and made the experience even better. We started with 2 dirty martinis with goat cheese stuffed olives. I'm not a huge drink person so I can't overly critique cocktails, but they tasted like a proper martini and were made well. Apparently they're known for their martinis. Of course we got oysters..4 east coast and 4 west coast. The east coast oysters were smaller and I personally liked those more. The west coast ones were creamier and a little bigger, but both were very fresh. Food wise: * Clark's burger was simple but really good. Thick patty, cheese, amazing pickles (seriously I could eat a whole jar of those), and skinny fries that were almost chip-like. I personally would've liked the fries a tiny bit less crispy so they felt more potato-y, but still good overall. * Tuna carpaccio was delicious and came with this garlic aioli-type sauce on top that was sooo good. * The crudo plate was super refreshing with capers and this citrusy sauce that honestly stole the show. I asked for lemon on the side and squeezing that on top reallllly elevated the flavor. The sauce was so good I started dipping my tuna carpaccio into it too lol. Overall it was a vibe. Great atmosphere, fresh seafood, good service, and a really pretty setting. I'll definitely be back to try their dinner menu too. If you want outdoor seating (which I highly recommend if the weather is nice), definitely reserve ahead because that area fills up fast.
