Came here for lunch on Mother's Day. First off it was great to be able to get a reservation for 8 about a week before mother day. This is my first time at this location. I ate at the one in Sherman oaks for years but it has been a while. Colleen was our server. A 24 year vet at this location and she was very nice and accommodating. Quick with recommendations and refills. We were seated immediately and service overall was really fast. The restaurant was crowded both inside and out but it didn't seem overbooked. We started with the tuna tartare. It was fresh and flavorful. We also had a grilled artichoke that people really loved. The entrees were basically pretty good. I had the fried chicken sandwich with fries. Nothing to write home about and I would probably not order it again. The same is said about the chicken and waffles someone ordered. The vegan burger and the regular burger seemed to be hits. The pancakes apparently went down like butter. All in all it was enjoyable. I will say that the restaurant could definitely use a refresh. The plates all seemed tired. The vibe was a little tired. I think just a little bit of love (and money) would go a long way at this location. read more

We had lunch at Marmalade today. It was not very busy and after asking a waiter we just picked our own table. I got shrimp linguine and my boyfriend got the Branzino. My pasta was pretty disappointing tbh. It was not hot, barely any sauce, and the shrimp were overcooked and not seasoned. My boyfriend fish was okay, but small portion and didn't taste super fresh. Freshly fried fish should be crispy, but this one felt like it had been sitting for a while. Other people food honestly looked better, so maybe we just picked the wrong dishes. I was in Malibu for business and needed a last minute bite to eat. It was a Saturday night so all of the restaurants I walked by were jam packed and had no room. Then I spotted a sign for Marmalade Cafe and made a beeline there. I was very familiar with their Calabasas location, having dined there a few times. When I walked inside, I briefly thought I was in the wrong place. It looked nothing like the other location. This one had more of a diner feel, with tables and chairs and a counter, very casual and laid back, versus the Calabasas location which felt more plush and upscale with booth seating and a nice bar. The place was rather empty for a Saturday night which was surprising being that other restaurants were packed. It was a chilly evening so I ordered a bowl of the French Onion Soup as well as a glass of wine that the server highly recommended. The soup was excellent though it had a bit too much cheese for my liking. The base was an umami bomb rich with beef and onion flavor. The croutons were moist, yet chewy, and had a light tang reminiscent of sourdough bread. The cheese on top was nicely browned and melted over the side of the bowl. The wine was the perfect compliment to the meal. Despite the fact that I didn't care for that much cheese, it was still a 10/10 for me. My only letdown was the ambiance was so much different than the Calabasas location. This one felt more like a breakfast and lunch joint which probably explains why there were only a handful of people having dinner. read more

It seems like lunch for two is approaching a hundo just about anywhere you go, so head to Malibu for a super delicious breakfast/brunch across from the beach. You'll need the carbo load for shopping at James Perse anyway. He might even be there. Nothing prissy about their super extensive menu -- think elevated diner food in Malibu's Cross Creek outdoor mall. You cannot beat the breakfast items (omelettes, pancakes) or the sandwiches/burgers for lunch. Friendly service and a big big restaurant inside if you're like me and don't like to eat outside. Full bar and they take reservations. Save Nobu for another day. read more

Five stars for convenience and quality of takeout . This is one of our go-to places for takeout when I'm too exhausted or lazy to cook. I order the Caesar dressing by the quart, we love the black and penne pasta, flat iron steak, a ray of salads and most of all the lobster tacos!! Though we used to make this a regular dining spot, don't love the remodeled interior as well as the old. It just sort of lost the charm- but it will do an in a pinch. The Calabasas location is cozier but, but we probably get takeout from the Malibu location at least several times a month. Always friendly staff- food ready for pickup when promised. read more

Came to marmalade cafe Malibu with my (at the time) boyfriend for brunch, and we really enjoyed it! The restaurant has plenty of seating, we didn't have to wait at all. Our server was very friendly, and the food only took maybe 10ish mins to come out, was overall pretty fast. The ambiance is pretty standard upscale brunch, no surprise since this cafe is inside the Malibu market area. Re: food, we ordered the short rib hash, lobster lime tacos, and a plate of white chocolate macadamia nut pancakes and shared everything. All quite good! Had a fantastic dinner here with some friends! I had the crispy eggplant Parmesan, and was surprised that it wasn't on a pasta base (or anything, actually), but they brought me some spaghetti to use as a base as an additional side for only $5 extra. The portion was MASSIVE and ended up being two large meals which certainly helped me feel better about the pricing. My friends had the fish tacos and the Mac & Cheese, respectively. We were amazed by the seven cheeses apparently in the Mac and cheese, and while I did not try it because my friend added bacon to theirs and I am vegetarian, they reported that it was wonderful. Honestly, while everything was pricey, it was clearly high quality and the portions were VERY generous, so it feels worthwhile. We were the only people sitting outside because of the December chill, but it was a really lovely outdoor seating area. Finally, I have to commend the service. The staff were all incredibly kind and accommodating. One accidentally brought one of my friends the wrong drink, and while both he & our main waiter noticed and offered to replace it, my friend refused and said they'd just stick with what they'd been brought instead. Even so, the one who'd made the mix-up still brought them a replacement with what they'd originally ordered a bit later, free of charge. The main waiter even offered to bring us a free dessert as an apology, but we were quite full and it really was no problem, so refused and tipped generously. We had such a wonderful experience at Marmalade. The food was delicious, but what truly stood out was the service. Brock was incredible -- attentive, kind, and genuinely thoughtful. We were dining with kids (including some very picky eaters), and he went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and accommodated without making it feel like a hassle. I love this location, just off the PCH in the heart of Malibu, near a lot of other great vendors, but the breakfast overall was good just not great. We had a bad first impression because when we entered three different staff members walked by us and near us without greeting us or seating us even though we were obviously looking to have breakfast. Our waitress once we did sit down was fantastic though, and all the items came out quickly. There is a large free parking lot attached so there will be plenty of spaces. It's quite large on the inside with a lot of different seating options for various sized groups. For my meal, I chose the Spicy Chorizo Benedict and thought it was pretty good. The eggs were cooked perfectly, but there was very little sauce on it and I really wish it would've had hashbrowns instead of the home potatoes which were overall kind of dry. This was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. I ordered the fish and chips and my boyfriend ordered the salmon eggs Benedict. We were brought the fish tacos and the salmon eggs Benedict. After they re-brought me the correct meal, it seemed that it was frozen, pre made breaded fish due to the uniform shape and watery bland taste. The portions were also small on the fish. The coleslaw took over the plate, no person wants that much coleslaw as a side. For two simply portions of fish, French fries, and about 2 cups of coleslaw I paid $24.99. My boyfriend said the eggs for the eggs Benedict had an unusual leathery, softball-like texture on the whites. We had to flag down a waitress after waiting for quite a while for our bill. There is a good amount of parking, but the lot gets crowded quickly. read more

I visited the marmalade Café in Malibu Nov.30th I ordered the French toast, but ask that bananas not be included because I was allergic. I did ask for extra berries, which the waiter said they could do for me. The plate came out and the first thing I noticed was the slices were just tossed on the plate and there was only 2/ half strawberries and about three blueberries. I thought it was strange, but when I took my first bite, I realized there was also banana on the bread and under the slice. I immediately called the waiter over, explain to it what happened and he picked up the plate and left. He did not tell me whether he was bringing me a new plate or anything else. When he did come back, he had a new plate and the appearance of the plate was completely different from the previous one. The slices were stacked neatly, and there was a lot of strawberries and blueberries. I repeated to him that I was allergic, and then I was very distressed to have been given banana . He said that the chef's denied that happened, and that he doesn't know what was going on. I tried to eat the French toast, but at that point, I was having an allergic reaction and felt it was better for me to leave. The waiter said that the manager would be down to speak to Me, so we waited for a few moments to speak to the manager. However, he just came back with the bill and said that the dish had been taken off and she did not think it was important enough to come down and speak to me. I asked again, but he repeated the same thing. I left and went to urgent care, took care of the allergic reaction. Then when arriving home, I wrote to corporate marmalade Café to request that someone speak to me about what happened I have asked three separate times for either the manager or marmalade café to get in touch with me, and no one has done that. It is pretty clear that they do not care, and no one could be bothered to speak to me about the fact that I was given something I was allergic to, it was very clear by the way the plates looked that it was obviously scraped off the first dish I received. I'm very disappointed that no one will speak to me about this situation, I certainly know not to go back to any marmalade café read more

Service: probably the worst in the city. We were one of four tables in the restaurant on a Saturday early evening. It took our server 10 minutes to even come over to greet us or ask for our drink order. We had to ask for menus, and had to repeat our drink orders. Our server had completely forgotten the drinks for the kids, so we had to ask again. Again flippant attitude and never got them. The bus boy/runner was awesome, probably would make a terrific server. The food: I had tacos, they were the most bland chicken tacos I've ever had, dry to boot. The rest of our party seemed to be okay with their entrees, at least there were no audible complaints. Not that the server ever asked. Prices were average according to the area. The desserts seem to have been the only redeeming part of the dinner. Although the lack of listening ability in our server ended up with us having extra desserts. Drinks are weak, and service is abysmal. It seemed as though he was giving off the vibe that we were lucky he even bothered to help us at all. Given the poor first impression we won't be back, with the plethora of great restaurants near by I'd recommend any one of those over this place. read more

Sat outside for breakfast here and it was a pretty good experience. Prices are a bit high but I got two meals out of mine which was nice. I got the breakfast burrito with sausage and it was pretty yummy. I liked the guacamole inside but wouldn't preferred a different side instead of tortilla chips and warm salsa as it didn't really match the burrito. My dad liked the corned beef hash and brother the Belgian waffle. I also really liked the iced mocha however it was really expensive, I think over $7 for one coffee which is kinda wild. Was able to sub broccoli for the spinach, which I'm glad I did. It also included blackened chicken breast, which was really great. Gilson's scramble was okay - lots of food. Only thing we wouldn't re-order is the agua fresca- it just wasn't worth it and got tired of the flavor quickly. Ambiance is casual, but enjoyable. What a delicious, melty, satisfying plate. The poached eggs, ground turkey, yukon potato purée, and hollandaise sauce is a harmonious and hearty blend. Starting chronologically, the parking situation here is moderate. It's in a busy plaza, but the parking availability is adequate, especially important in the typical car busy areas of Malibu. Walking in, my wife and I were struck by the comforting mood given off by the lighting and decorations. A mix between local eatery and high end restaurant, though more toward the latter. The waiter were quick to get our orders, and servers were quick, considerate, and provided options that I didn't think to ask. For example "what type of toast, the ones we tend to offer are {blank, blank, blank}" In terms of the food, the grits and eggs were the perfect amounts of salty and savory while leaving a mouth feel that satisfies the craving you would want from a grounded starch. The short rib hash seemed gimmicky at first, but ended up being a phenomenal blend of spiciness and meatiness giving "hash" a fun new spin. I also ordered an iced mocha and my wife a chai latte (not quite pictured) that were both solid in taste, construction, and presentation. My only complaint was the quality of potatoes within the hash. They tasted slightly undercooked and could benefit from either crisping them further or softening them. At first it was honestly a bit subtle to pick up, but with the default side of breakfast potatoes that were cooked well, the hash potato filling become more and more noticeable as I kept eating. Honestly, didn't keep me from finishing. Overall a good experience. Though the prices for the food prevent normal visits, I enjoyed my time here and would come back for a special treat.
