    Spicy Ahi Tuna Tartare
    Sam J.

Came here for lunch on Mother's Day. First off it was great to be able to get a reservation for 8 about a week before mother day. This is my first time at this location. I ate at the one in Sherman oaks for years but it has been a while. Colleen was our server. A 24 year vet at this location and she was very nice and accommodating. Quick with recommendations and refills. We were seated immediately and service overall was really fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was crowded both inside and out but it didn't seem overbooked.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the tuna tartare. It was fresh and flavorful. We also had a grilled artichoke that people really loved. The entrees were basically pretty good. I had the fried chicken sandwich with fries. Nothing to write home about and I would probably not order it again. The same is said about the chicken and waffles someone ordered. The vegan burger and the regular burger seemed to be hits. The pancakes apparently went down like butter. All in all it was enjoyable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will say that the restaurant could definitely use a refresh. The plates all seemed tired. The vibe was a little tired. I think just a little bit of love (and money) would go a long way at this location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Garlic shrimp linguine
    Iryna N.

We had lunch at Marmalade today. It was not very busy and after asking a waiter we just picked our own table. I got shrimp linguine and my boyfriend got the Branzino. My pasta was pretty disappointing tbh. It was not hot, barely any sauce, and the shrimp were overcooked and not seasoned. My boyfriend fish was okay, but small portion and didn't taste super fresh. Freshly fried fish should be crispy, but this one felt like it had been sitting for a while. Other people food honestly looked better, so maybe we just picked the wrong dishes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was okay and atmosphere was average.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, probably not a place I would go back to.

California Lamb Burger and Chicken Parmesan

Below average food in comparison to the many amazing cafes and restaurants in the LA area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice ambience sitting outside and very friendly server[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but chicken parmesan was very dry and the chicken was tiny compared to the huge portion of pasta (probably 3x any chicken parm I have had before). Didn't seem fresh. Lamb burger was ok, nothing special.

    Gilson's Scramble

Tried the Gilson's scramble while exploring Malibu for a day trip. It was delicious! The scramble had the right combination of fresh avocado and crispy bacon with some home style potatoes. I say this often, but I will be returning to try other items on the menu.

    Chopped Italian, Garlic Shrimp Linguine

The Chopped Italian Salad and Garlic Shrimp Linguine were perfectly cooked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outdoor seating area was especially relaxing and perfect for enjoying a meal on a beautiful day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Service was great the food was okayyyy I think my sandwich was just not as good as I thought it would be but the sweet potato fries were bomb

The absolute best place for Breakfast! The service was amazing and [[HIGHLIGHT]]we loved the outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Ambiance was super chill, perfect for a Sunday morning![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The lox and bagels and chicken and waffles were amazing!!! Crispy Short Rib Hash ($19), Dark Chocolate Macadamia Nut Pancakes ($14), and Chipotle Lime Lobster Tacos (18)
    Stephanie W.

Came to marmalade cafe Malibu with my (at the time) boyfriend for brunch, and we really enjoyed it! The restaurant has plenty of seating, we didn't have to wait at all. Our server was very friendly, and the food only took maybe 10ish mins to come out, was overall pretty fast. The ambiance is pretty standard upscale brunch, no surprise since this cafe is inside the Malibu market area. Re: food, we ordered the short rib hash, lobster lime tacos, and a plate of white chocolate macadamia nut pancakes and shared everything. All quite good! Would def recommend if you're in Malibu and just want a straightforward, satisfactory brunch. :)

    Mac'n'Cheese (add bacon)
    Roger G.

Had a fantastic dinner here with some friends! I had the crispy eggplant Parmesan, and was surprised that it wasn't on a pasta base (or anything, actually), but they brought me some spaghetti to use as a base as an additional side for only $5 extra. The portion was MASSIVE and ended up being two large meals which certainly helped me feel better about the pricing. My friends had the fish tacos and the Mac & Cheese, respectively. We were amazed by the seven cheeses apparently in the Mac and cheese, and while I did not try it because my friend added bacon to theirs and I am vegetarian, they reported that it was wonderful. Honestly, while everything was pricey, it was clearly high quality and the portions were VERY generous, so it feels worthwhile. We were the only people sitting outside because of the December chill, but it was a really lovely outdoor seating area. Finally, I have to commend the service. The staff were all incredibly kind and accommodating. One accidentally brought one of my friends the wrong drink, and while both he & our main waiter noticed and offered to replace it, my friend refused and said they'd just stick with what they'd been brought instead. Even so, the one who'd made the mix-up still brought them a replacement with what they'd originally ordered a bit later, free of charge. The main waiter even offered to bring us a free dessert as an apology, but we were quite full and it really was no problem, so refused and tipped generously. I'm never in Malibu, but if I ever find myself in the area again, I'll have to return!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a great place to have Memorial Day breakfast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat on the patio and enjoyed every second.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was great. Our food came out promptly and correct . It was delicious! They have gluten free toast which was awesome! The bussers here deserve a huge shout out. They were on top of refills etc. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself mimicked other marmalades in the area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Oh and my Mom got the pineapple upside down pancake to go and boy did that look appetizing!!

So glad I decided to try this place out. It has gotten more upscale and refined than it used to be which is a nice change. The older space had a lot of nostalgia to it. Most importantly my prosciutto sandwich on French bread with a side of fries was so friggin good. Then I continued to throw caution to the wind and had some soft serve for dessert because they have it there so why not? Patio seating chill vibe, Malibu people watching.

At first, we loved the baked goods of "Scott's Malibu Market" and tried a bunch of different items - sprinkle cookie, chocolate chip cookie, marble loaf and the snickerdoodle cookie. All were amazing! We also enjoyed our breakfast date with the BEC sandwich on brioche and egg platter with sourdough toast. For the food, it is a great place and a nice option for breakfast and lunch, and for a sweet treat! However, the staff is unwelcoming and provides a cold experience! For example, when you are ordering - they act uninterested and impatient with taking an order. Smiles are hard to come by and even worse is the nasty attitude received when we were trying to help a woman with three large bags of food to her car; when my son attempted to retrieve the remaining bag for her - he was yelled at by the owner, Scott. He preceded to tell my son that he should have been told that we were helping the woman; and never apologized for the tone that he took with my son who was only trying to help the woman with a large order. IDK, maybe offer to help the woman to the car...just an idea since it didn't seem to register that it would've been a nice thing for him to do for his customer! As the owner, he should be setting a better example to his staff and to the community that he serves who are local to or visiting Malibu! It's a shame to have been left with such a bad experience; and hope that he and his staff might read this and change how they manage and serve their customers!

Today, it was Pura Vida in Malibu, located in the same commercial plaza as Madhappy / Pantry, Frankies Bikinis, Be Kind Studios (pilates), and a soon-to-be Wally's. I really liked Pura Vida because of it's "health and wellness" angle. In re-reviewing the menus here, I noticed several items that were over 1,000 calories - not quite as health-conscious as I remember, but I knew it had to be just as delicious. Thankfully, I was right. I had the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl which comes with a generous helping of avocado, cucumber, arugula, green onions / scallions, radish, spicy mayo, cilantro rice, and raw tuna. For about $35 with tax and tip, this was a rather hearty lunch that two people could easily share. I didn't mix it, as I prefer to eat ingredients separately, and received a soy ginger sauce on the side to complement the flavors. My friend opted for the Spicy Salmon Wrap, made with a specifically gluten-free wrap. That option comes with cooked salmon (which she found to be dry), edamame, carrots, avocado, and cilantro rice - as well as a side of fruit and the same soy ginger dressing/sauce I had. She wasn't wow'ed by the flavor, which may be because of the wrap, or the gluten-free nature of the preparation, or the salmon itself. The exterior patio seating is new, fun, and reminds me a bit of the La La Land coffee shop in Calabasas. Gorgeous place to have brunch or lunch outdoors and soak in some Malibu overcast. Service was efficient, personable, and polite. Plenty of staff to handle the crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Food came out quickly and tables were bussed in a timely manner. Free parking is available in the back lot, or else in the underground garage. There's also valet parking for $8 (all-day) toward the front.
