One of my favorite places in Pittsburg. I have been eating there my whole life and it has always been very consistently good and inexpensive. The Submarine is my favorite sandwich and I really enjoy the Brown Sugar Baked Beans! The Creamy Italian Dressing is the best I've had and I routinely buy a few bottles for home! This is a staple place to eat in SEK. It is not uncommon to find a line out the door on weekends. Even with the long line, you can usually get in and out of the deli in a short amount of time. Once you're seated service is pretty quick. As for the food keep in mind this is a deli, you're not going to find anything fancy here but it is really good. I like to start my meal out with an "appetizer" of club crackers and the deli's signature creamy Italian dressing. I know it sounds strange but it's pretty good and just about everyone who goes here does it. Some of my favorite things off the menu here are a toasted egg bagel with cheese (so much melty cheese!) with a cup of soup, the Big Matt (roast beef, grilled onions, and mozzarella on an onion roll), and the french dip! A must have experience to all who visit Pittsburg, KS Great fresh food, great price, best creamy Italian dressing you've ever had ... Ask for the "Italian dressing and crackers" then top the club crackers with the dressing and its a odd but delicious free appetizer. The bagels are great! they are more like soft buns with delicious cheese on top.(another must have) Note they also have sides such as boiled eggs for a healthy alternative to the cheap chips they default with the sandwiches. read more

This is by far the best deli I've ever been to. The only thing more surprising than how good the food tastes is how low the prices are. A sandwich and chips with their amazing homemade creamy Italian is under $5. So far I've tried all of the sandwiches except for the Combo (the only one that costs $8), and they've all been great. Our first visit here. We didn't know it's not a good idea to go on a Pitt state home game day. Our waitress said they are busier than most Saturdays. Our waitress was busy but took care of us. Love the free appetizer of crackers and homemade creamy dressing. Never seen this anywhere else. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on wheat toasted. It was very good. Good flavor. Hubby got the special: chili dog. Was ok. The prices are great... $7 each. The food came out quicker than I expected. Will definitely be back! read more

My coworker and I decided to stop by here after a business meeting and it was pretty good!! Everyone is right, it is SUPER BUSY! All the tables were full in a matter of minutes! Luckily we didn't have to wait more than a couple minutes. The food was delicious (we both got the french dip) and they sent us home with a drink to go! I really don't get the hype about the mall deli. The Mall Deli will literally have a line out the door. I decided to try Mall Deli after being talked into it. I ordered a standard ham sandwich and a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Our waitress brought us a basket of packaged crackers and salad dressing and told us that everyone loves Mall Deli for their salad dressing and crackers. It took me a long time to warm up to this restaurant. Everyone bragged on this restaurant for years and although the food was alright - I didn't see what the fuss was about. Service was always good. And prices were reasonable. My feelings turned after I tried the French dip. Add pepper jack cheese and a smear of cream cheese to the sandwich and it is VERY good. The chef salad is great also. People rave about this place. I just don't get it. I've lived all over the country and have never seen a fanbase so rabid for such a bland restaurant. It's just not that good. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 based solely on their having creamy italian dressing which I adore. Pittsburg is a pretty small town without much to do or many fine dining options but at the same time the Mall Deli just doesn't do it for me. Its a good meal, but not nearly as good as the reviewers here would make you think. Plus its not like Meadowbrook Mall is a destination or anything. If this restaurant was downtown and called the "downtown" deli I may understand the appeal since I typically love any town's downtown area. But a little sandwich shop in a tiny mall in the middle of nowhere just isn't on my list of "must eat" places. read more

All the soups are fresh and delicious! A little pricey for a regular sandwich place. There is nothing else like it in Pittsburg. Be ready to wait in line if you go around lunch time. Pretty good sandwiches and friendly staff. I got the french dip and it was good. I can't say that it was the best I've ever had but it was a solid sandwich. It comes with boring old ruffles chips so it's best to get a side of something more exciting that chips. A little FYI also- we got there a little before noon on a Friday. The place was jam packed but we got a seat right away. Just a touch after noon the line was not only out the door but was completely out the door of the mall for people waiting to get a seat. The college is close by, maybe that had something to do with it. Also, they are famous for their creamy Italian dressing. I've been eating here since I was born. It's amazing. I'd eat there every week if I could. I try my best to make it happen even though I live 30 mins away. The subs are the best thing on this planet. I'm curious how they get their meat to taste so good. I always ask for extra pickle spears. They never charged me for them. They are delicious. The subs are B2G1 free on Wednesdays. My wife likes the Big Matt. She says it's great. The grilled cheese is the best grilled cheese I've ever had. Garlic butter and a ton of cheese. I wouldn't be surprised if they give you 5 pieces of cheese on it. Chicken Noodle soup is great. Their orange pop is super great. I'm not sure what they do to make it taste different. Free crackers. Free dressing. I've never ate the dressing, but I've heard it's amazing. My only complaint is the amount of chips I get. Sometimes I get a massive amount and sometimes not as much. The Deli has all types of sandwhiches from ham, turkey, roast beef and corned beef to chicken and meatball. You choose the meat, the cheese and the bread...then hot or cold or grilled. Ahhh...the Mall Deli. Our neighbors are both very proud Pitt State alumni who have talked up this place called the Mall Deli ever since we met them three years ago. Pittsburg Kansas isn't exactly in a centrally located, easy to get to location. Located in the far southeast corner of Kansas, the Mall Deli is located in the small Pittsburg mall and is a long time favorite of locals and obviously people from afar as well. From what we heard from our neighbors and what I read on multiple reviews, my expectations were set quite high for our visit. We just happened to be in Pittsburg for one of my kid's band events and there was absolutely no question as to where we would eat. The Mall Deli is a sit down restaurant in the mall and when we arrived, the line to be seated was about 15 people deep outside of the restaurant.....clearly a good first impression. The Mall Deli is known for their in-house specialty creamy Italian sauce. They bring out a basket of crackers and then people simply start adding dollops of this amazing (160 calories per 2Tbls so be aware!) sauce. We were advised to get an appetizer of their delicious egg bagel that has your choice of melted cheese on top. Dipping the soft chewy egg bagel in the creamy Italian should have been the end of my meal, but I still had my main meal to order. I ordered the BBQ Brisket sandwich and my wife ordered the Meatball Grinder and as usual we split them. Amazing is the best word I can say. The tenderness and flavor of the meat combined with the freshness of the kaiser roll made it one of the best lunches I've had in a very long time. Adding some of the creamy Italian to the sandwiches made lunch even more amazing. I do have to admit, I felt a bit guilty after lunch because I have no clue how many calories were consumed, but it was worth it. The best part of all, the following weekend after my first visit to the Mall Deli, we went on a family vacation down to Arkansas which took us right through Pittsburg KS once again and you know where we stopped for lunch again. read more
