Do not go here if you're in a hurry! Relax, have some good conversation, people watch, and take your time! Had dinner here on 2/15. Not sure why there was no wine list available-seemed odd. Service was friendly, but very slow. I am not used to that, and obviously neither were some people around me. But if you just get in the groove of the pace, it is ok. Crab cake appetizer--not bad, but didn't impress me. Was a little too fried. Dinner was very good. We both had seafood. I also wish the lighting was lowered, since it was dinnertime and couples were out for Valentine's Day weekend. It would have also made the experience more intimate, which may have helped the patience factor! This is not your standard Cleveland restaurant. It is a unique experience. The calamari was the best I have, fresh tasting with a light breading. The rest of the meal was very enjoyable. What I was moat impressed with was the wait staff. Mallorca was one of our favorites. Went there for a holiday meal for 8 people. Ordered favorites like shrimp in garlic sauce and shrimp stuffed with crab. So disappointed! The servings were small including the shrimp in garlic sauce-$19 for a dozen small shrimp probably 31-40 size. Two pasta dishes were tasteless, the pork chops were overdone and dry. The twin 6 oz lobster tails were $100. I am sorry to say we won't be going back. It was also very difficult to have a conversation since it was so noisy. read more

Took the wife there for an early Valentine's Day dinner. Relatively easy to get seated. Nice ambience to the place. Relatively high but not extravagant pricing. Service was pretty good, Except they seemed a little frazzled and hectic. Highly recommend the garlic soup. The seafood was all nicely cooked and very tasty. Their garlic sauce for seafood was great. You can tell seafood is what they do. Vegetable side was carrots and broccoli. Kind of meh. Vegetables were terribly cut. Uneven. Looked like a child prepared them. They were well cooked but bland. Highly recommend Caldo Gallego (soup) and Garlic Shrimp and Calamari appetizers. For main course, decisions are so tough...Paella, Garlic chicken and the Stuffed Tilapia are all decadent. When they have the Beef short ribs on special, that is a "Top 5" bite of food in Cleveland. Tremendous wine list and very fairly priced in comparison to other fine dinning establishments. We decided to stay at the Renaissance in Cleveland for a few days and explore. We sort of serendipitously discovered Mallorca , less than a ten-minute walk away. We enjoyed our visit very much. Starting with the staff - they were excellent and friendly. Our particular waiter was frankly a hoot and lots of fun. His enthusiasm was contagious. So, of course, service was good. Great service, good food. Paella is probably some of the best in Cleveland. The split lobster tail on top certainly was a surprise. The very fresh and crisp salad was included with all entrees, and was quite good. Nice, tasty fresh fried in-house potato chips served as a free side. This place is old school, just as I remember it 10 years ago. If you have never been here before, give it a try, especially if you like seafood. I went with family for a birthday dinner . We have been there many times before and we're looking forward to the meal. Service was slow. They did not have a wine list and we're offered two choices. The shrimp appetizer was very small shrimp in a garlic sauce. Small shrimp do not have much flavor ( why would you kill a little shrimp? Or a small chicken for its wings , that's another issue) the stuffed veal chop was very bland. The only good dish was the seafood stew. The chips weren't edible as they were soggy. Service is quick and wine was brought out rather quickly. Started with scallops which were good. There was several specials the night I opted for the special with an ahi tuna steak. It was incredibly overcooked and dry. Felt like I was eating a well done meat rather than how tuna is typically prepared (pink on the inside). The portion was huge but not something I'd try again or eat as leftovers. The sides are home style sides- so very shareable portions. We had the rice which was a good option for our table of 4. I order this on a delivery service when I want to have a treat and not have to cook for a few days. The paella is wonderful and full of seafood, chicken and chorizo. The rice is perfectly cooked. The sides are very generous and includes the house made potato chips, steamed carrots and broccoli, a salad and bread and butter. It's enough for more than one. Well, after reading the reviews, I thought this would be a perfect spot to check out on New Years Eve. The space is lovely. I know that they are known for their service, but to me, it felt forced, not at all genuine and completely over the top. We ordered the sangria, it was decent. I've had better. The bread came out and it was moldy. Being as I've spent years in food service, I know this can happen unintentionally so I very quietly called over a gentlemen (not our server) and whispered to him that he may want to check the other bread before it goes out and that I wasn't upset at all, just wanted him to know. The server comes rushing over, loud as can be and says something is wrong with the bread, I'll get you a new one right away. I assured him it was no biggie and he wouldn't drop it. Plus it just brought attention to a situation that didn't require attention. So there was that. I ordered the stuffed shrimp and my husband ordered the paella. The seafood was cooked well and there was enough of it, but the rice was awful. It didn't have the crisp bottom that is what you look for with paella. Literally, we make a better paella at home. It was rather disappointing. The whole experience was just eh. Our bill for those two dishes and a pitcher of sangria was $80 + with tip. I came to Mallorca with high hopes and really wanted to love it as I typically love Spanish and Portuguese cuisine, but I'm sad to say that Mallorca really missed the mark for me. I came on a Friday evening for a family member's birthday. From the moment we were seated, I have to be honest and say that I felt a little stressed by the atmosphere. It was very busy overall, and we felt that the waiters were in a rush with us from the moment we sat down. One of the primary issues is that we didn't have just one waiter - we constantly had multiple different waiters coming to our table, which made things a bit confusing and hectic as they were each unsure to what extent we had been helped thus far. Additionally, there is no wine menu, so keep this in mind as well. Our waiter brought a few red wine options to our table to show us the bottles (without prices, I might add), and I felt like they had much more wine behind the bar than what we were able to see, so we couldn't make an educated decision on which bottle we wanted. We had two bottles of wine throughout the evening and both were very mediocre. Now, for the food. Again, I was sadly underwhelmed with each dish we ordered. Below is an overview of the dishes we tried: - Seafood paella: The biggest disappointment of the evening. The rice tasted like it came from a box and the seafood was chewy and gummy. Our party of four each had one bite and moved on. - Veal in lemon wine sauce: Thin slices of veal, lightly breaded and topped with a white wine sauce. This was one of the better dishes we tried, but I felt that there was way too much sauce on top. Ultimately, due to all the sauce, it became soggy within about 10 minutes of it sitting on the table. - Sole stuffed with salmon: A filet of sole stuffed with spinach and salmon, topped with a white champagne sauce. A great idea in theory, but the fish was quite flavorless and could have used much more seasoning. - Goat special: This item was not on the menu, but it was essentially tender pieces of goat that were marinated and slow-cooked. From a seasoning standpoint, this was easily the best dish that we tried; however, I personally am just not a fan of goat and find it to be too gamey, so I only had a couple bites. Overall, I give the experience two stars because the employees were very friendly and we saw some great table-side drinks being prepared (one of them looked like a huge boozy milkshake that the waiter actually lit on fire at one point - maybe my party just ordered the wrong items)! Perhaps this was just an off night since many people in the reviews seem to love this place, but Mallorca was ultimately a disappointment for my party and I am sad to say that I don't think I'll be back. read more

Came on a dead Monday, which may have something to do with it. Ordered the stuffed piquillo peppers, which tasted like they had been stuffed a week ago and warmed in the microwave. Then had the paella, which better be the signature dish at any Spanish place. Instead of the crispy socarrat (crispy rice) one is supposed to find at the bottom of the paella dish, it was a soggy mess. The seafood tasted old and precooked, mussels were shriveled to the point of dessication, and it was inexplicably served alongside a bowl of unseasoned potato chips. Maybe it's better on a busy weekend when they have to serve fresher food, I don't know. With a bill for one of $50, I won't be back to find out. Attentive service could also be attributed to the lack of business, but he was a good server and earned his place a second star. read more

My husband and I had dinner while in town for a football game. The staff was so friendly and warm. The food portions are huge. I had the paella and my husband had the seafood stew. Each meal comes with sides and a salad, so don't eat all day before going. We were too full for dessert but people around us had desserts and they looked really good. Sad to say that I have been coming here many years and this is my first review. This is an old school fine dining restaurant. White table cloth, servers in bow ties, fancy but I think affordable for what you receive. As I said old school fine dining, no fancy fusion dishes etc. but just some great Spanish, American dishes, lamb, goat, rabbit, tons of seafood dishes, thick steaks etc... Nice menu , but wait for waiter to explain their long list of specials they have everyday. My favorite is their octopus ,BEST I have had anywhere period !! Service is old school also, Outstanding ! Drink a little water, refilled immediately ect... If you really want to splurge try their 24oz. Stuffed lobster tails. Yes 24oz. Tails ! Unbelievable!! This visit we tried the (of coarse) octopus appetizer, and calamari. Then the stuffed shrimp and scallops in their green sauce (garlic,parsley,olive oil) All TOP Notch !!!! FYI: all dishes include a salad with house dressing, yellow rice, steamed veggies and home made chips. Mohorca's is great for a date night, business meeting or a fun night out with friends. This place rules. A friend and I split a paella, and HALF a lobster came with it. There are scallops dotted all over and clams and mussels. It's pricey ($26) but it's a perfect paella for two if you're both ambitious with portions but it's realistically food for four. They also have a house sangria mix that is fruity and easy to drink. The pitcher deal is better than the price per glass. I would recommend this place for a date or a birthday gathering. read more

From the time we entered to when we left, the service was impeccable. Genuinely friendly, gracious, and attentive, the meal was well paced and never rushed. Homemade sangria was delicious. But the star was, of course, our dinners. Large bowls of seafood, shared platters of rice, kettle chips, vegetables, and fresh bread. We feasted! My husband and I went to Mallorca last Saturday night after seeing the Christmas windows at the Higbee and gambling at the Horseshoe Casino. What an amazing meal! We ordered Temperanillo wine and oysters on the half shell as an appetizer. The service was impeccable (numerous servers waited on us) and every one of them seemed happy to be there... in fact everyone in the restaurant seemed happy to be there! My husband was impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant (not a speck of dust anywhere) and the fact that the waitstaff appeared to know most of the diners that night. I LOVED the art work and decor - the Picasso above our table was beautiful. We ordered the specials of the night and shared them... Rabbit in a light gravy with potatoes and Baby Goat roasted in a dark gravy with roasted potatoes. My husband thought it was the best meal he's ever eaten! (He is a hunter and loves game dishes). The goat was cooked like a deep, flavorful, tender pot roast and the rabbit was roasted tender like chicken. We were starved but the portions were huge (enough for lunch this week)! We finished with flan and a Spanish vanilla liquer (on the house). Although we ordered a ton of food (saffron rice, house chips and steamed vegetables accompanied our meals) the price was relatively low. My dinner was delicious! A stuffed Salmon prepared perfectly. Have you ever been to a restaurant and could not eat it all because the appetizers and salad were so delightful? Well I did and when I hot home, I was horrified to find that my Salmon (which I did not touch) was not in my container!!!!! Did they eat ir, drop it, or give it to someone else???? Never have I experienced this... not even in a dive! I called them back to inform the Mansger, left 2 messages and NOT ONE PERSON HAD THE DECENCY TO RETURN MY CALL!!!! $40 DINNER and all I had was some damn rice and veggies in my container! I've been coming here on and off since it opened years ago. It's got great ambience, just a fun atmosphere. The location is awesome. I really hope that they can rebuild a downtown around these types of places. It's just a great location with great atmosphere, and awesome food. Let me just say this. I come here as often as I can when I'm visiting family in Cleveland. I usually get just one thing and it's their soft-shell crabs. I never had them before trying them here, years ago. Since then, I have ordered them numerous times all over the country... Not once were they even in the ballpark of the soft shell crabs here at Mallorkas. It's just fantastic. The service is wonderful. The paella is really excellent, lots of "stuff" in it and a great bargain. You get amazingly good food and in substantial amounts too. There are two waiters in this restaurant and a whole bunch of busboys. We found them quite imposing, pushy and kind of forgetful. The waiter towers over you and riddles off the specials in very loud, heavily accented english, and I felt that he was a bit snappy in answering our questions. We also had to ask one waiter and two different busboys for an extra plate, which ended up taking twenty minutes to finally arrive. Right before it came, we heard very loud voices from the kitchen, "did you get their plate?", "oh no, I forgot!" The food is fairly decent, although my girlfriend did find the paella kind of one note. I thought it was kind of amusing that they seemed to offer everything under the sun (mushrooms, lobster tail, tilapia, salmon...) stuffed with crabmeat and marscapone cheese. I ordered the salmon stuffed as such - tasted a bit buttery and the marscapone cheese masked the crabmeat quite a bit, but the salmon itself was cooked fairly well. I did like the portion sizes - all entrees come with sizable plates of veggies, rice and (unsalted) potato chips. The place is supposedly classy and the waiters are in tuxedos, but really, half of the clientele were in jeans. read more
