What how have I NOT reviewed my most favorite spot in town yet?!? Malone's is exactly the type of restaurant you want to live down the road from. Let's start with the staff- hostess, waiters, bus boys, bartenders all super warm and friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. I always say the food reminds me of a nice dinner out with a casual atmosphere- MY FAVORITE. My husband swears by the French Dip cleverly named The Fred and the New York. I swear by many items- the Rib Eye, the Prawn Salad, the White Diamond Burger (TO DIE FOR), and the Cadillac Tacos. Also super impressive is the updated wine list with some of my favorite friends by the glass like Testarossa Pinot and Silver Oak Cab. Tons of local wines, TONS of craft beers, and a very fine whiskey collection. Last but not least the patio is great for a sunny day or cozy evening under the heat lamps and there's an outdoor TV. I don't not like Malone's but I certainly don't love it either. 3 stars because the staff was very sweet and because they have the beyond burger. So why aren't I in love? Well first off, it's a little pricey for what it is. They up charge $4 for the beyond veggie burger which is WAY higher than I'd ever seen anywhere else. The side of sweet potato fries was really small and the avocado fries definitely weren't the tastiest. Everything needed some salt. I feel like it was all so close but just not quite there. Before we were seated I got a glass of wine for $12 that was an extremely little pour :/ and a ginger ale for $4... the bartender kept stoping while he was cashing me out to flirt with a waitress and it all took way longer than it needed to. He truly kinda sucked. The bill for dinner was $60 and we got 2 veggie burgers and some avocado fries. Just seemed to be a little much, also they charged us for our sides which didn't make sense because on the menu it said it came with a side. Idk, we were ready to leave and didn't want to fight over dollars here and there. Just think they have some work to do. Really Bummed to write this review. I find the food and drinks to be quite good and the people who work at Malone's are extremely nice. Additionally the outdoor dining area is very pleasant. The problem is the prices and return policy. $17 for a burger?! Up to $35 for a glass of wine! $28 for chicken and so on... Malone's is pricing itself slowly out of business. Finally if you order a drink and don't like it and want to exchange it for another drink? Too bad - Malone's doesn't do returns. When we were told this - we just sat there stunned. Wow!! I have NEVER heard of this policy at ANY restaurant in my entire life. Well, needless to say when this happened to us we ENERGETICALLY decided we will NOT be returning. This policy presents Malone's as incredibly arrogant - we prefer to dine at establishments that actually care about their patron's satisfaction. This is a shame because Malone's gets 95% of it right. Went out this evening for the first time in a long time. Had an amazing meal outdoors under a beautiful patio with fire pits and lights. Amazing food great to see people supporting locally owned restaurants. The staff was super safe, friendly and glad to see everyone. We listen to the rain and had great conversations. read more

Was gonna give only four stars, but I have no idea why they dont deserve all five. The servers for us were younger gentleman and they seemed to have their act together. The gentleman was charismatic and inviting. The busser also interacted with us on a personal level. We were somewhat harassing in asking him for more sauces and such but he was such a good sport. We were seated outside and then moved inside due to the crazy yellowjackets (that's mother nature, they cant control that, so if you're allergic. Dont order meat and sit outside.) Anyhow I was pleased anyway cause we had experience outside seating patio which is way nice as well as the elegance of the indoor seating. We truly had the best of both worlds. Definitely go with the a AVOCADO FRIES for an appetizer, it comes with some sort of sauce that is savory, sweet and has a touch of spice to it. Also we had a POKE stack special that was absolutely a reason I would go out of my way to come back and visit. For dinner: I ordered a MALONE'S COBB and added CHICKEN. Highly recommend that route. It was delicious and I got maybe halfway thru before I realized it hadn't had bacon on it. They quickly admitted the mistake and got me a side of bacon promptly. I was completely happy with it. Absolutely no complaints. My boyfriend had a HITCHCOCK burger, which was suggested by the server and my man was pleased with the way it was cooked & presented with a M on the bun. Came here after volunteering in the area. The falcon burger was so good! I got it protein style with a lettuce wrap and the flavors were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The menu had a great selection and the wine list definitely had options. We were a party of 3 and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals (steak salad) was amazing and highly recommend it. Apparently it used to be a dive bar. The menu selection is good, the vibe is great (it's where all the locals go) and it's a family owned establishment that's been around for over 30 years. I had the pleasure of meeting the Patty Malone tonight. She was hosting a Wine-Down Wednesdays event and it was lovely to converse with her about her restaurant. It's clear she puts her heart and soul into it. All of the locals knew and enjoyed being regular patrons and everyone knew each other by name. I ordered the petrole sole special with garlic mashed potatoes and it was cooked to perfection!! The house salad was great too!! This used to be our go to place for a burger, drink just a nice Friday I don't wanna cook dinner. We went after the remodel, not bad! Kids and husband enjoyed their burgers, kids sizes were a little small but eh, they'll find something at home later. I loved their chicken and waffles special... Until we went at the beginning of May. I ordered chicken and waffles of course, was told by our waiter they improved the recipe and "it's so much better!" Uh not so much...my waffle was burnt, the chicken was sooo dry and definitely not new and improved. Alright, 18 bucks down the drain, live and learn. My husband got the basic Malones burger, asked for no tomatoes and cooked medium. Burger came with tomatoes and cooked to basically shoe leather. Ok, another 15 bucks gone... This is what really did me in...my daughter ordered the gnocchi with chicken...$25! Y'all know gnocchi is potato right?? And it was gummy, if you've had bad gnocchi you know what I mean! My daughter shared a bite and i felt like a dog eating peanut butter. Sure it had a few sun dried tomatoes, a some soggy pieces of asparagus and some REALLY dry chicken on it but c'mon that's ridiculous! Heading back from the shooting range with my hubby and dad...We decided to grab an early dinner and I had always wanted to try this place. It's always hopping on Saturday nights when there's karaoke. We were pretty much the only people there (being 4 o'clock on a Thursday after the holidays I wasn't surprised). Hubby and I had the French Dip and my dad had the Bacon Cheeseburger. They had fries while I had a dinner salad. Due to the somewhat bland interior, I wasn't expecting much out of the food. I WAS WRONG (which doesn't happen often). Starting with my simple dinner/side salad - Just the right amount of balsamic dressing over a bed of crisp fresh greens and a few beans (the red soft ones I forget their name at the moment). It was so refreshing and satisfying. :) Yummy!, and I consider myself a bit of a salad snob. The French Dips - I added cheddar to mine. It was superb. The meat was soft and flavorful. The sauce was just right, not too salty not too oily. Portion-wise the dishes were spot-on. I just about ate my whole sandwich with maybe two bites left. The same went for my husband who was silent as he enjoyed his sandwich. Here's the kicker - My dad's burger. He is not a man that is easily impressed. He has eaten all over the world in fine restaurants. This burger...well he kept interrupting the conversation to say how amazing and delicious it was. Seriously. I was in the middle of talking and he kept blurting out (mouth full) how much he loved it. I made a point of passing on the info to our attentive and cheerful waiter. I want to add that 5th star on, but the atmosphere was really bland. I'm hoping it is because we were there at kind of an odd time of day. One night, we'll stop in and see if the energy has grown. I was a very loyal Malone's customer, until a couple months ago when I changed up my order and got a pasta that came with a salad. I took my first bite and notice something strange in my mouth. I immediately spit it out and it was a piece of GLASS!! I look in the salad and there was more glass!! I immediately called my server over. She deeply apologized and said she'd make it up for me. It was scary finishing the meal but I did. When the bill came I only got a couple dollars off and free dessert! I'm honestly horrified of this place. I have nightmares about this incident. Wow, this place has come a long way in the last 20 years. I went from only dining on the patio (because the inside was kind of smelly) to the establishment adding a nice, new, clean dining room inside with it's own separate entrance. We came here last night and enjoyed some hearty cuisine on a really cold night. They had a special that included a prime rib open faced sandwich. The ingredients were so good that I didn't want to mash it all together and jumble up the flavors. The arugula was fresh, the tomatoes were nice and juicy, the shoe string onions were crisp, the spiced crust on the prime rib was out of this world and the horseradish sauce was subtle. I almost forgot to mention the clam chowder that I ordered to go with it. Maybe it was the fact that it was cold outside but it made it phenomenal. It really hit the spot! I absolutely love Malones! I tend to stick to the greek salad with prawns because it is so yummy. It's a bit expensive for a salad but the amount of jumbo prawns on your plate really makes up for it. My other obsession is their cream of green chile soup. I've tried multiple recipes in hopes of re-creating it but have never accomplished it. If you want to avoid the costliness go for a weekday deal night (up on their website) Wednesdays they offer a 6 dollar pasta of the day and on Monday you can get a 6 dollar burger and fries. read more

We recently were married in Felton and decided to have our welcome dinner at Malone's. We chose Malone's because they have amazing food! We live in Los Angeles, there are a lot of good Gastro Pub/Burger restaurants and Malone's had the best burger I've ever eaten. Fast forward to the dinner. We were able to rent out the entire restaurant for our group (approx. 140 people). There was plenty of space and most of the party stayed on the awesome outdoor patio. The food was amazing, service was fast and friendly and the owners Ryan and Taylor brought in a great band to play for the party. Taylor also had some really encouraging words for me and my wife before our wedding the next day. Overall, great food, awesome staff, beautiful restaurant and the owners were great. The burgers are like they USED to be with the M brand and the great fries and onion rings served on the mini baking sheets covered in butcher paper. I had the Grinch (beef, cheddar and bacon) and Roy had the Hitcock with Beyond meat. In my opinion, if a place serves a stellar burger, then the rest is a given! First time back after a long time so didn't get to try anything else yet, but am seriously looking forward to it. Malone's is blowing it BIG TIME!! We are frequent visitors here who could be counted on to sit at bar as a couple, or at a table with the kiddos once a week!! Last night (weds) craving Malone's but not able to leave the house I sent my fiancé to pick up dinner. The menu change is absurd to say the least. We loved the taco plate, but discovered last night that it no longer comes with rice or beans as it previously did. Not that the portions of the rice and beans were even ok to begin with (2 bites of each at best) but now not to have ANY??? So now pretty much we are paying $20 for a plate with nothing but 2 tacos on it??? Hmmmmm so $10 a taco?? I was intrigued by the kinds they had and asked if they had blue label. she (Ashton?) looked at me and said - I don't know! OK.. so that's fine! Then I saw a 21 year old ballerina. I had consistently great experiences with the previous management at this establishment. While others had issues, which seemed to have little to do with the fare served here, the food was always top-notch in my experience. My husband and I ate here after not coming for over 10 years. What a mistake. The young woman at the register taking the order was rude. The food was mediocre and the ambiance was horrible. Recently changed ownership, what a bummer, this place use to be great! Was there for dinner last night! Awful service! Lots of young kids that are not trained properly working there - bringing out my burger with his hands all over the bun!! Yuck! And everyone had lots of long hair around food, not pulled back! My understanding is that Malone's has been a Scotts Valley fixture for many years. A bit rustic, with a good steakhouse menu and a full bar.
