The place looks great and we were told that it gets really busy, but we were there on a very silent Sunday evening so the waitress was really attentive. Wine was good, the flat breads specially the veggie was really good. They changed their wine menu but they did not print the new menu so it was very confusing. I was there on a Saturday night for an appetizer before dinner. The bartender was professional. He suggested a great red wine pairing with the basin meatball we ordered. I particular like how they have a choice of 3, 6 and 9 oz to choose which is perfect for my friend who just want a sip. The balls were great. The choice of meat is prefect and the size is just right. Service was warm and professional. It's a great restaurant for girls night out or couple dinner. The decor were modern and hip.... If you've always wanted to visit Jersey Shore, but live in Oakville, then don't fear, Maluca is the place for you! If you like your men over-50, wearing loud-print Hawaiian shirts, and being endlessly rude to the waitstaff, then come on down. Seriously, went to this place for a few drinks. Drinks were very tasty, decor is nice, but it was filled with obnoxious people who bump into you, just to make sure that you know it's their territory. Might be a nice place during the day. My GF and I went there on a Friday Nov 8, 2013. We had made a reservation and were seated immediately. That was a good start. It took 10 minutes for a waitress to come around for a drink order. So, the service was slow in the beginning for drinks. Later, the waitstaff came over every few minutes to find out how the food was, almost being annoying. I ordered a salad and my GF ordered soup. We ordered a main dish of Arctic char to share. After 25 minutes, all the food came out together! The soup was cold and had to be sent back for reheating. The salad with beets was excellent. The main dish of Arctic char was removed and brought back after we were done with the salad and soup. It appeared to have been simply reheated as the scoop of green seasoning on the top had been melted when the dish was returned. It was overdone and tasteless. Overall, this was a very disappointing dining experience especially given the elegant dining at Seasons, which owns Maluca. It is very unlikely that we will return given the large number of similar restaurants in the Oakville, Burlington, Port Credit area. read more

Beautiful decor, the menu reads great but fails to deliver. Staff is polite but way too young and therefore incompetent. They runaround alot without much delivery at tables. The owner seems to be doing doing most of the work. It's a mixed bag of wanting to attract all: fine dining, sports tv wine/martini bar not sure? The pop corn freebee at the table is a little cheezy for the impression the decor and menu suggest. At the bar maby? But at the table????? Two of us order the goat cheese tart which was super dried out my guess was that it had been reheated one too many times. My chicken was also reheated dried up hard as rock with no flavour. They replaced it with the burger which looked good but the meat tasted like burger king. Did not even take it home. Busy, noisy, the menu is not designed to accomodate fast delivery. I may try it again, but for a before dinner drink and eat elsewhere. read more

I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. I liked this place! It had a super cool ambiance, and our service was excellent. It was pretty quiet given it was a Saturday night, but that really didn't bother us! We had the grilled calamari - yum! And we also had the bison meatballs -- also yum! The portions were large enough for two, for a smaller dinner. Loved my sauv blanc glass of vino, but was surprised at how limited their white wine selection was, especially as they call themselves a wine bar! There were only 6 white wine options in total (by the glass). That doesn't really scream wine bar to me?! But, nonetheless, I'd def go here again!! read more

Maluca is a tapas restaurant so I thought it would be a good choice for our annual ladies dinner. The atmosphere is nice, and our server was friendly but things went downhill from there. The tapas experience is about sharing plates and working on a dish at a time ..but just to make sure, I asked the server to bring out each item as they were ready. Instead we easily waited a good 45 minutes and all dishes came out at once, so food was cold before we finished everything. We ordered items like poutine, mussels, a cheese plate.. The food was ok.. The Thai mussels lacked flavour, but the fish was fresh. The bill then took a ridiculously long time to arrive.. I had to get up and ask the server to bring it to us and we still waited at least another 15-20 minutes and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. The biggest kick in the pants was my pregnant friend realizing the next day that they had charged her for a $12 cocktail instead of the virgin cocktail that she actually had. The experience was disappointing. Hopefully others have better luck. read more

I went to Maluca twice with my boyfriend. Because I have serious food allergies--the worst of which being dairy--I googled the restaurant and looked through its menu prior to our first visit to see if it would be safe. Upon arrival, I was surprised to see a completely different menu presented to me, but there were some dairy-free, gluten-free options available. Our waiter verified with the kitchen staff that all of my food could be prepared to accommodate my allergies, and was very attentive throughout the service (probably because we were literally the only customers there). We ordered an appetizer of gluten-free chips with a trio of salsa, guac, and mango salsa. It was absolutely delicious! For our main meal, my boyfriend ordered the steak and frites while I ordered the gluten-free pasta with shrimp added. Our food arrived in good time and tasted absolutely wonderful. I think my boyfriend's eyes almost rolled back in his head when he tried the creamy sauce that went with the frites. Overall, a solid 4-star experience. This evening we returned to Maluca with similar expectations and lots of excitement. We had a different server and the kitchen staff was also different, but I repeated my spiel about my severe dairy allergy to the waitress and she assured me that the food would be safe. We ordered the grilled calamari and it honestly made me feel sad for the animal that had to die only to be covered in some sickeningly sour sauce. It was cooked well, though. Still sucked. For our main dishes, we ordered the same things that we got the previous time. When our food arrived (after much wait) I noticed that my pasta had massive shavings of parmesan cheese on top. Before she even put it down in front of me, I told her I could not possibly eat it because of the cheese. She apologized profusely and send both of our meals back. She came back not even 5 minutes later with our food, and I strongly suspect that they simply took the cheese off and pretended to remake the entire thing. I ate it anyways, and it was mediocre at best. Shrimp tails were left on, which was awkward to eat, and the ratio of sauce to pasta was probably 3:1. My boyfriend's "medium rare" steak was definitely more rare, and instead of the lovely creamy sauce for the fries, he got a little thing of what is certainly store-bought, run-of-the-mill ketchup. The glimmer in his eyes was quickly dimmed. The waitress also took away his beer glass when it was empty and never bothered to ask if he wanted a refill. Now I sit here with a sore stomach and my boyfriend is down $70. Not a bad restaurant if you get the right staff. Strongly recommend you avoid this place if you have finicky allergies like myself. read more
