Whenever I'm in Fairbanks on business or visiting family I stop by Mama Bears. The kombucha is excellent and there's always a variety of flavors featuring local berries. Honestly, the kombucha is so good I've wrapped their growlers in bubble wrap and taken them 650 air miles back home to Bethel, Alaska! While you're trying the kombucha, plan on ordering some ramen from Oishi Kitchen. It's in the same at the same location and is well regarded by locals. read more

The second time we went, it was still slow but the counter help was much more helpful, attentive, and I watched her serve several hot meals while we waited for our goods. I didn't believe this brewery was real until I was standing in it…read more There ain't much info about it on the net. I had never been to the Midnite Mine either, so I didn't understand the setup. Pretty much: this is the tiny top floor of the Midnite Mine. It's functionally a separate business. (for example Midnite Mine is cash-only, Midnite Mine Brewing Company accepts cards!) It's probably tied with Onsite Brewing and Gakona Brewing for the smallest breweries in the state! Their batch sizes are so small, that you're only allowed to get 8oz pours, and no growler fills are allowed! When I was there they had a fruited wheat beer and an IPA. I had one of each, and they were both pretty solid! The server was really friendly and really knowledable about all things brewing. As I was sipping brews here, they were breaking ground (literally) on a full-sized brewery right next to this facility. Can't wait to see what they do with a higher throughput brewhouse! The Fairbanks beer scene is finally heating up!
