    Fried chicken
    Sara H.

We got all this food for $30 at Mama Browns "Sunday cooking everyday". I stopped in for takeout and the inside is nice and spacious as well! The chicken was delicious and they have so many good sounding sides to try. Loved the fried okra as well. The owner was friendly and conversational while I waited for my order. Can't wait to go back with a group to dine in.

Salmon cakes with fried okra, mac and cheese, and a roll. Added hot sauce

One of the best fried catfish sandwiches I have ever had. Tartar Sauce was a very good addition to the sandwich.

When driving home nearby from a weekend in Bath Co., we stopped in for lunch. We called ahead to make sure they were open and they had a table all set up for my husband and I and our 19-month old daughter - with a cute plate, little baby spoon, and highchair ready for her. Our waitress was so nice and the sweet tea was delicious. This is Southern granny cooking just like my grandma made when I was a child. You can order single plates but the best deal is their family-style for $23 a person with black-eyed peas, green beans, stewed tomatoes, biscuits and corn bread, mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken with one other protein - we chose pot roast and it was soft and delicious. I wanted dessert - but it was so filling we had to skip although all their pies sounded wonderful. This is a historic old log cabin-type building with plenty of tables inside and they were super nice and low-key for us and our baby. Food was out almost instantly and everything was delicious. Will make sure to stop here again whenever we're driving through from Virginia Beach! Happy to have found it.

When you arrive at this historic destination - you're met with a cozy restaurant that feels both rustic and homey with a waitstaff that is friendly and helpful. While you can order individual plates, we came with a group and opted for the all you can eat lunch. Sides ranged from stewed tomatoes to black eye peas. Everything was seasoned well and full of flavor. For main dishes we were served fried chicken, pot roast, and pulled pork. All were amazing. If you have a sweet tooth - be sure to save room for dessert. The cobbler was delicious and a perfectly warming end to a wonderful meal shared with friends.

The bartender greeted me and asked if I wanted the regular menu or was the lunch menu sufficient. I perused the lunch menu, which had several different options. Surprisingly, everything on that menu was half price! What a deal! I ordered the most expensive item, the catfish sandwich, which was only $10. Even though they were very busy, I got my sandwich within ten minutes. They call it a sandwich but there ain't no way I could eat it like a sandwich, even with my big mouth. The catfish came with onion, lettuce, tomato, and some kind of sauce on a toasted sub roll. It came with a knife. I cut off the first bite. It was .......... GREAT! Wow! I have always gotten BBQ or fish tacos before. Fantastic blending of flavors. It came with a choice of a side and I chose fries. The fries were barely alive. Good flavor but partially limp. That was the only negative. I wish I lived closer to Farmville. I would make them regular visits during the week. They keep teasing us about expanding to Madison Heights but no action yet.

I tried one with a red pepper jelly on top and it was fantastic. I was greeted with some warm faces that came in and had me sit immediately. The stuff that my waist line thanks me for not cooking, if you know what I mean... I opted for the country fried steak, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese, brother chose the pork chop special with mashed potatoes and pickled cukes and onions. The mains were amazing. The pork chop was huge and thick and delicious, the country fried steak was so good, the gravy on both was delicious. The price was a steal. They were both amazing. The mashed potatoes were also both delicious, definitely homemade and not from a box. The baked Mac and cheese was just okay. It tasted like normal homemade Mac and cheese, nothing particularly special, but then I feel like baking it always just dries it out and sort of breaks the cheese sauce, so I would definitely skip that next time in favor of something else. The cukes were also just okay, we got it to feel like we were trying a healthier option, but will probably just splurge for something else next time. We were a little disappointed though, I do understand that this is a local restaurant and some things are harder to get and keep on the menu and keep in stock, especially if you don't want waste, but we initially tried to order corn cakes but they were out, then rolls but they were out, then went with biscuits. Then brother got the last pork chop plate. They have been out of pickle fries for "awhile now". If you aren't particularly picky about what you want to order, cool. I only particularly like cornbread/corncakes, so I was pretty bummed. The people are super friendly though, and a lot of locals seem to come by for their hotdogs (like, a LOT. Clearly we are missing something not ordering the dogs.) I'll definitely be back on days that I had a really healthy breakfast and plan on breaking my healthy streak with something fried and covered in gravy.

We booked a reservation and that seemed like a good idea, as it was quite full inside. We were seated in a corner booth in their dining room, directly across from the expansive wrap-around bar area. I noticed a cute little fireplace in the dining room too. All around, the vibe was perfect for a chill dinner. I ordered the Abita root beer ($5) to drink, which is always a good choice. One of my friends ordered a Sangria, which looked lovely, and she said it was good. I'd consider ordering that in the future. For food, I started with a small ceasar salad ($5). I loved the dressing on it so much, I wish I could've bottled it up! I would return JUST for that dressing. One of my friends ordered it for her meal and added salmon, and she also liked it. Another friend ordered the spinach salad and *loved* it. I ordered the blackened mahi with pimento grits and brussel sprouts for my entree ($30), the brussels subbed for the broccoli that originally came with the dish. Everything on the dish was delightful, and my leftovers warmed up well the next day too. We each ordered a different chocolate dessert, including the chocolate peanut butter pie, the chocolate pot de creme, and (myself) the brownie sundae. We all enjoyed them quite a bit. Prices were super reasonable, especially considering how much food we ordered. Everything was clearly high quality also. Can't wait to try more of their menu in the future!
