Terrific food, nice ambiance and great service. I had been looking for a Taiwanese restaurant near us and we found Mama Chan's. We loved it!

It took a long time before I tried this restaurant. The menu is limited but very unique---why would a Chinese restaurant serve French Fries or a fried chicken sandwich? Once I let that go and ordered one and experienced all its gloriousness, I was hooked! This is a chicken sandwich with an Asian spin. Chicken is moist and flavorful, as if it had been marinated before placing the delectable fried coating on. The homemade sauce served with it takes it over the top. And those pickles? They are one of a kind. You NEED to try this sandwich! If you are looking for traditional Chinese American takeout, this is not it. The cuisine at Mama Chan's is many steps above (not that I dont enjoy traditional takeout, i do!) The food at Mama Chan's is like being at a friend's family feast where their mom is a fabulous cook! The Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is like a warm hug on a chilly day, soooo tasty and satisfying. On a day when I was not feeling so well, this did the trick! Can I tell you that I dream about this soup?! It's THAT good. We also tried the Sesame Chicken (which is served as tenders---big juicy pieces!) with a great rice on the side, and the Steamed Pork Dumplings, which were exquisite. The dumplings are made by hand and are a little on the pricey side, but they are of good quality and you are definitely getting what you pay for. The dipping sauce that comes with them was great. Rounding out the dishes we have tried over a few visits are the Fried rice and Garlic Udon, both were very tasty amd enjoyable. On my next visit I want to try the Braised Pork Belly Bowl and the Sautéed Sting Beans. Although all my orders were takeout, I would like to comment that service was exceptional. The owner, Diana, greets you with a smile and is very personable. Food is prepared as promised, on time, and with care. They even provide utensils. Must have driven by a dozen times before realizing Mama Chan's restaurant was nestled in a small plaza. Think of all those yummy meals missed! Family owned, Mama Chans offers great service and food. Try the Scallion Pancakes, Homemade Shrimp Dumplings, Sautéed Green Beans and Fried Chicken Rice Bowl. Your palate will be grateful. Tables and seating at the bar are available, but limited as it is a smaller restaurant with acoustics that make conversations a little difficult at times. When Mama Chan's opened, I have to admit that I was skeptical. What I first saw was a lack of vegetation options for main courses which was disappointing but when I called, I was told that basically any dish could be made with tofu instead of meat to be fully vegetarian. Wow! I have gotten food to go maybe 15 times in the past year and our favorite is the sesame tofu and the fried rice that comes with it. We would eat here a lot more if it was less expensive. We visited Mama Chan's for the first time with the family. It was simply an incredible experience. The staff was really helpful and polite. The pan-fried garlic udon, pork and veggie dumplings, fried rice, and sesame chicken were all served. Everything is freshly prepared and excellent. It's a pub and a quite tiny restaurant. Make a reservation because it does become busy. Additionally, parking can be difficult, but it's worth the wait because it's in a small strip center. read more

I had the absolute pleasure of attending a private event at Mamma Chan's tonight (10/20/25), and it was nothing short of amazing! First, a huge thank you to the staff for working when the restaurant was closed! You all went above and beyond to make the evening so special. The service was friendly, professional, and full of love. The vibe of Mamma Chan's is incredible; warm, welcoming, and full of personality. It's definitely not your typical Chinese restaurant. I couldn't believe I had driven past that little strip mall so many times without realizing such a hidden gem was tucked inside! I also loved hearing the family story behind the restaurant...it's clear that every dish is made with love and care. You can literally taste the compassion in the food. We were truly spoiled for the event! My favorites were the handmade pan-fried dumplings, soy honey wings, and sautéed green beans. Everything was bursting with flavor! There was so much more delicious food, but I was so full I could only manage a few bites of everything else! I'm definitely looking forward to my leftovers tomorrow! I stopped in to grab some take out. The place was crowded and a really good vibe. The staff were friendly and polite. I had a few minutes to observe the place. The staff was busy, but not overwhelmed bar was full and everyone was served. The cocktail menu looked great. I returned home and was treated to a great meal. The scallion pancakes were great and the vegetable soup was fantastic. I'm looking forward to a dine in experience soon. read more

My friend and I came here recently after seeing rave reviews of this new Taiwanese restaurant in our hometown. We were excited to try the dumplings that we had seen such buzz about. But ultimately due to the very small portions and very high prices for food that was just ok, I won't be back. To be clear: the service and ambiance at Mama Chan's were lovely. Our waitress was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu, and the owner took the time to check on every table. The lighting and fireplace are very warm and inviting, and the interior is stylish and clean. But good vibes alone are not what I look for in a good restaurant. The staff encourage you to pick a few dishes to share, so that's what we did. We each got an order of the pork dumplings, and then split one order of veggie dumplings and one cucumber salad. For 6 dumplings, $16 is outrageous. You could buy 45 handmade pork and chive dumplings in Chinatown for that price. The pork dumplings tasted alright, but very small. The veggie dumplings tasted better, but were also small and cold in the middle. The cucumber salad was tasty, and very similar to the one I make at home in that it was chock full of garlic and sesame seeds. But for $8, again it was a very small portion. After we finished our dinner, we both agreed that we were still hungry. My friend got the mantou buns that came with sweetened condensed milk for dipping, and even though they were tiny, she said they were the most filling thing she'd eaten. I was also surprised to see that there aren't even any gua bao on the menu, and yet a $22 fried chicken sandwich is their most popular item?? This leads me to believe that they are catering to the rich white demographic at the expense of authenticity and bold flavors, which is a shame. I feel like there is so much potential here to do something similar to Sup Vietnamese in Stony Brook- where delicious fresh Vietnamese food and innovative drinks can be enjoyed in a stylish and modern restaurant. read more

We ordered the pancakes stuffed with beef & scallions. I was a little disappointed because I thought they would be a scallion pancake stuffed with beef. I've had this happen elsewhere and it's a favorite. So I would not order that again. Hubby ordered the special cocktail which he enjoyed. I don't recall the name but it was made with cassis and bourbon. Hubby ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich, which he loved. Juicy and crispy. He said he'd order again but not Nashville Hot style. He enjoyed the Nashville Hot but said he'd like to try it without since the chicken seemed to have a very nice flavor on its own. I ordered the pork belly bowl. It was very yummy and something my Mom would have made. If you're expecting a bowl with lots of stuff, you may be disappointed. It's just rice, braised pork and pickled cucumber, but very delicious. The chef came out and asked what we thought of the food. My only critique was the timing of our food. First one app came out. Then my entree. Then, our second appetizer and finally, my husband's entree. They need to work on getting the apps out at the same time and the entrees out at the same time. Other than that, I was very happy with the whole experience. Love the decor, friendly service and first and foremost, the food was delicious and I would recommend and return for another meal. My wife and I had this on our list for awhile so it' was so exciting to finally try it. The restaurant is very cute. The drinks and food are good. You can tell everything is homemade. Our waitress was also very sweet. For drinks we got the lychee martini and the Joy Luck Club. We both liked Joy Luck Club better. We shared marinated cucumber salad (very garlicky in the good way though) the handmade pan fried pork dumplings and steamed vegetables dumplings, everything was good. We also shared the sesame chicken with garlic rice and beef wrap. The chicken was a bit thick for my liking but you can tell it was fresh and had a good taste. Absolutely loved our dinner at Mama Chan's in Northport! The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and one of the owners, Diane, made the experience even better by personally stopping by our table a couple of times to check in--super friendly and genuine hospitality. We ordered the sautéed green beans, handmade pork dumplings, pan-fried garlic udon with pork, sesame chicken, and the cabbage vegetable special. Every dish was bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned. You can really taste the care and quality in their food. Generous portions too--we left with a nice amount of leftovers to enjoy later. Every time I walk through that door, I leave happier, fuller, and somehow more obsessed than the last time. The magic starts the second you step inside. The owner herself greets you like you are family, and the warmth in her welcome is unmatched. It's like walking into your own home, but with way better food and zero dishes to do. The rest of the staff is just as incredible, friendly and attentive. I recently brought some gluten-free friends here (who haven't been able to eat Chinese food in over five years), and their reaction was priceless. "Best meal we've ever had." That says everything. I walked in and was greeted by Diana, the owner and daughter of the OG, Mama Chan. Daughter Chan had the widest genuine smile on her face and treated me like we were old friends. I sat at the bar and was served by Jack, a pro bartender if there ever was one - he made a mean Manhattan, straight up. We've been getting food here since they've opened. At first things were delicious and service was fantastic. Last night was the last night I'll ever waste money here. $68 for store bought frozen dumplings which weren't even cooked through. Store bought noodles In a pork broth when specifically asked for veggie. And scallion pancakes that look like they came from HMart. Mushrooms are frozen not fresh, I would know since I made the mistake of cooking frozen mushrooms (disgusting chewy texture - When you cook on a regular basis you know these things...) Also interesting no prices on the menu anymore. Suffolk code states prices must be displayed online as well. Such a shame. I wanted to love this place. I'll never recommend a place that falsely advertises. Price gauging is one thing. Lying is another. So many other fantastic places to eat instead ... like across the street. read more

I visited this evening for the first time with my parents and brother. We were referred by Fatusco's across the street. I had been looking forward to coming here for a while after seeing all of the positive feedback. Firstly, the restaurant is gorgeous! It's very open and bright with natural colors and greenery. The bar is large and spacious. The tables are comfortable with plenty of room for seating and for drinks and food. The music playlist is on point and upbeat. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and feel so welcomed. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. His recommendations were spot on. We started with the joy luck club cocktail which was light and refreshing. We enjoyed every item that we ordered which included string beans, vegetables dumpling, pork dumpling, chicken sandwich, fried rice, vegetable noodle soup and beef noodle soup. We were also gifted the pork rice bowl. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Lastly, we had the pleasure of tasting a potential new menu item, a mango tapioca pudding, which was really unique in the best way. Everything here is fresh and homemade. Heard of a small new business that popped up and finally made the drive out to northport. Let me tell you. Get in there while you can. Was a full seating a Wednesday night and I totally understand why. We started out with the MC Fries with a tangy BBQ sauce, banging scallion mayo and some crispy pork rib meat, the green bean appetizer, and homemade handmade pan fried pork dumplings that were light and not greasy at all. Wish I had 50 more. Here's where the fun really begins. The fried chicken sandwich should be entered into a competition topped with that scallion mayo and the perfect house made pickled cucumbers. My GF got the fried chicken bowl that was good and we shared the cold sesame noodles. Few drinks and dessert we had to be rolled out of there. Can't wait to return. read more

Went last night on the recco of a chef friend with two girlfriends. Service was excellent, spot has a great vibe with lively music. Had pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings, fried chicken rice bowl, special of Chinese broccoli, cold sesame noodles and out of this world Chinese zeppoles.
