Went last night on the recco of a chef friend with two girlfriends. Service was excellent, spot has a great vibe with lively music. Had pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings, fried chicken rice bowl, special of Chinese broccoli, cold sesame noodles and out of this world Chinese zeppoles. We came to Mama Chans on a busy Saturday night with a toddler and a newborn. They were so accommodating to us and the restaurant had great vibes and music. I went in with an open mind as I saw reviews that it's not a traditional Chinese food establishment. I didn't care for the food as I found it very oily and small portions for the price. The taste was mediocre. the live music I happen to come across while I was there, made it very difficult to hear my company speak. And it just felt very claustrophobic. We sat at the bar and the drinks were also top notch! We ordered at least half of the menu and we will be back! Mama Chan's of Northport. Taiwanese and Chinese dishes and specialty cocktails also serving sake, wine and beer. They opened on 2/15/24. So for a new place, they seem to have gotten through most of the kinks. The owner is hands on, visiting each table and backing the staff when she sees it's needed. The kitchen is also running at an efficient pace as they do takeout in addition. I sat at the bar which was packed and all tables were taken. Greeted by a nice young gentleman behind the bar. Ordered Pork Dumplings in soup, a Fried Chicken Rice bowl and the one and only dessert- Mantou Bun. While I was there, a table of about 10 walked in and the staff met the challenge. I did wait a little longer to get service in between courses but I totally understood what was happening. My takeaways- 1. Staff was excellent and very friendly. 2. Food was delicious, although dumplings could have been steamed a little longer. Broth wasn't too salty and everything was fresh! The portions were generous. 3. The ambience was freshly redone and bright. Industrial ceiling and white/beige walls, it felt too bright, but at a certain point the lights dimmed, I guess on a timer but could have gone lower. They have a beautiful roaring fireplace that only one table can enjoy. They need to reconfigure that. 4. Cool vibe with a twist on some unique cocktails. It's my understanding that the owners are seasoned veterans in the industry and it shows! They open at 5pm Tuesday-Saturday and closed Sunday and Mondays as of now. read more

This place was so good; I can't wait to go back. I strongly dislike Chinese food, but this food was so fresh and flavorful. It is not the Americanized Chinese so many have grown to know. When we first arrived (early in a Thursday evening) I noticed almost every table had reserved signs on them- be sure to make a reservation if you can. The team there was quick to accommodate us, offering outdoor seating or a spot at the bar. We opted to sit outdoors as the weather was perfect. Our server quickly introduced herself and communicated the specials (and happy hour) to us. She made great recommendations as well. In addition to our server, the owner and/or manager assisted with the table. She was not afraid to make conversation, clear the table herself and refill our waters- you could tell she was passionate about this place. Overall the service was phenomenal. For starters we ordered the margaritas, the homemade pork dumplings and the string beans. The dumplings reminded me of a friend's grandmothers dumpling we would eat in college, however, they could have been steamed/boiled a minute longer as they were not steaming hot. The green beans were amazing and flavored well. For our main course, we decided to try the daily specials: the pork belly sandwich and the cold summer noodles. Both were a 10/10. The flavors were so fresh. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert but that gives us an excuse to go back. We will definitely be back and plan on bringing friends! I do wish their hours were extended, even just for the weekend. I would love to pop in there for lunch, but right now it appears to be open only in the evening. Also, I inquired about possible peanut use and I was told that they do not use peanut oil and anything with peanuts is noted on the menu. read more

Went here on a Saturday night and when I pulled up it looked like a pretty fancy modern Asian place, but I was shocked when I saw that everything on the menu was under $20. The service was amazing and the food was cooked extremely well. 5. Stars. Everything was absolutely amazing. The vegetable dumplings were SO GOOD. The owners mother makes them, enough said. The pan fried garlic udon were delicious, and the sesame chicken was none other; the way its meant to be. It was crispy and not soggy. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I bought my family and we had the chicken sandwich, sesame chicken(special of the day), and dumplings. The food was amazing! The chicken was crispy and lite. Full disclosure, this is my sister and brother's new restaurant BUT it's freaking delicious. We got a chance to try a handful of dishes last night. We got the rice cakes which were flavorful and crispy, both the pork and veggie dumplings were fried really well and generously filled with tasty fillings. We tried the fries appetizer, and my teen daughter couldn't stop picking at the plate until she finished it off - the fries were crispy and the pork was fantastic. We also got the fried chicken sandwich which was so crispy and loved the flavors of the sauce and cucumbers. The beef noodle soup had Chinese broccoli and tender beef slices and was so comforting to eat. The Madame Butterfly cocktail was refreshing and my husband enjoyed his cucumber ginger fizz cocktail. The atmosphere is modern and homey, and our server Sarah was friendly and responsive. We highly recommend Mama Chan's! read more

Mama Chan's is terrific in every way! We have dined here twice (once with and once without a reservation) and I anticipate we will be back frequently. Upon walking into Mama Chan's, you are greeted as if you are family. Diana is warm, professional and personable. Since she is one of the owner's, you will see that she is involved in every aspect of running this lovely restaurant, which she does seamlessly! While seated at the bar area, you quickly get to know Jack, the bartender. His drinks are incomparable and his personality is delightful. Diana, too, makes very delicious drinks. They both have you covered with very creative, as well as delicious drinks and they certainly deliver on the old standards as well! My husband has had his best martinis here! His green tea margaritas are scrumptious. Shout out to Jack for upping the game on those! The food is delicious. We have almost made our way through their menu and each item is wonderful. Some items are more like tapas items with others being more filling so that it is possible to share a few items and also dig into a meal. Shout outs to their chicken sandwich which is double breaded and then fried for a very moist piece of boneless chicken with an incomparable crunch. So yummy! Their pork and veggie dumplings can be ordered several ways ( we tried fried and steamed) and the same goes for their fried rice and soups choices, which are a meal in themselves. The cold sesame noodles - terrific! So delicious! I could go on and on but everything we've had is truly amazing! The fact that Diana's mom comes in daily to make the fantastic, light and well filled dumplings and the two broths is a sweet story and makes for the delicious food! Came here for the first time tonight and it was absolutely phenomenal. We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff immediately. The menu is nice and simplistic - easy to navigate and doesn't overwhelm you with a bunch of filler choices. I was overly impressed by how accommodating the menu is to people with gluten allergies and celiac disease. This was some of the best Chinese food that I've had. The fried chicken dish and sesame chicken special had already been prepared gluten-free. Both were full of flavor and perfectly crispy. We also had the beef noodle soup with gluten free noodles, again super tasty. All of the dishes we tried were fresh and non oily, left us feeling nice and full but not in a heavy way. Basically every single thing on the menu is outstanding! We have been returning weekly (sometimes 2x a week) since they opened. My husband and two kids and I came here on a Saturday night on the earlier side and everything about it was amazing. We walked in and having made a reservation in advance and asked for a high chair, they had colorful markers out knowing we had kids, which was so thoughtful. The restaurant decor is absolutely stunning, so clean and chic. Our food was outstanding! The food here is absolutely incredible. Everything is fresh and home made. The owners mother works in the kitchen making the dumplings by hand. I've had the entire menu and everything is just so fresh and delicious unlike anything you've ever had before!!! There is no place like it. Every review seems to agree with me. Except that weird 1 star review. Do not pay any attention to that. That person is clearly lying. For what reason? I am unsure but as a regular patron I can tell you all of those claims are FALSE. This family is incredible. Their food is incredible and their pricing very fair. Go see for yourself. Speak to the owners. Went there for the first time yesterday night and ordered the pan fried dumplings and the egg fried rice, i was skeptical as most restaurants serve the frozen kind, they were legitimately the best dumplings I've ever tried, they were perfectly cooked to perfection, the pork dumplings had a very chewy but a little crisp to it and the ingredients was fresh and their are two different types of dipping sauce for it ( i believe their mom makes these from scratch)!!! I also ordered the egg fried rice with the fried egg , it was amazing! If you try this restaurant, i would suggest these items first ! Then try the other items ! You can always tell how good a restaurant is by getting there best sellers first ! If they do that right, that means everything else is going to be excellent as well... we will be ordering out this week again for our kids to try. read more
