Came to Huntington for a show and was looking for a place to eat. It was our anniversary and my wife wanted Chinese. We found Albert's Mandarin Gourmet. Arrived just after 7PM and we had a 20-minute wait. It was very crowded and many more people came after us. After about 20 minutes we were seated. We knew what we wanted. Our waitress came over and we ordered 2 Zombies from the bar and for dinner Moo Shu Pork and Chicken with walnuts. Our drinks came quickly and shortly after that our dinners. The drinks were good and our food was fresh and hot. Our waitress assembled the Moo Shu Pork pancakes. We enjoyed our meals and was plentiful and had leftovers to take home. Bill was reasonable. Luckily, we found Albert's Mandarin Gourmet. Food and service was very good, and we had plenty of time to see our show. If going on a weekend I would highly recommend reservations because we left after 8 and it was still crowded. read more

There is no other Chinese restaurant in Long Island that can compete with Albert's. The food is consistently excellent, and has the best spare ribs that I've ever had anywhere. Since obvious new management, quality went from SOLID 5 Stars to 4 Stars. Large order of spare ribs (not so large) not as meaty & overcooked. I was gonna send back, but my friends were ok with them. Their 1st time there....Mandarin Steak, portion also not as generous as in the past. Fortunately, my friends aren't used to the EXCEPTIONAL quality of the OLD Albert's, so they thought it was very good....me, as someone who has eaten there maybe 40-50times over the years, was a little disappointed. My husband and I went for dinner and the was quickly seated got waters a basket of Chinese crunchy noodles and our beverages all within less than 5 minutes. Very spacious and lovely decor they have different areas for more quiet seating or party seating and in the open seating and there is a good size bar a bit crowded but nice . We had yummy food . My husband had shrimp and pea pods and I had 2 appetizers for my dinner crispy duck delicious and lamb chops they were amazing. We will be coming back soon for the holiday read more

Albert's Mandarin has been a staple within the Huntington community but honestly, I've had a love/hate relationship with them. The late 90's into the early 2000's the food was spectacular and the restaurant was always crowded. Unfortunately around the 2010's, they started to go down hill a bit and the food was subpar for their higher price point. However, after about a decade of avoiding this place, I decided to order one of their lunch specials (chicken w/ broccoli) and I'm so glad I did. Now I eat there once week for the past 3 months! Although It's a bit pricier than most Chinese restaurants, The quality of their food is much higher! BBQ Spareribs are juicy and succulent (don't order these on DoorDash, the prices are off by at least 13 dollars!) Chicken and broccoli taste like actual chicken breast with a light brown soy sauce not that thick, oily, msg based sauce other Chinese restaurants have. Sesame chicken is by far the best!! Not heavily breaded with a good amount of white meat chicken. Perfect breading to meat ratio! Fried rices is similar to how Japanese make their fried rices. Very light and fresh. Hot and sour soup - Amazing! Egg roll is ok but again, not greasy! Duck sauce and hot mustard is made in house and they give the big fried noodles to dip them in. I don't know who lit a fire in them but Albert's is now my go to for Chinese food cravings and apparently everyone else's too since they are always crowded like they once were! ;) read more

It's so hard today to find old school traditional Chinese food that is not takeout or made with air fried gizmos but here it is. Like in the old days you're seated by a 50's something waiter and fried noodles are placed on the table with a pot of piping hot tea and mustard and duck sauce. All good all standard. I went for lunch so I immediately turned to the back page of my menu where I found traditional lunch specials which came with choice of soup, or egg roll, white, brown or pork fried rice for $12. The rest of the menu had typical Chinese fare both Cantonese & Schezwan they also have sushi available. I started my lunch with hot and sour soup and some cold sesame noodles in hot sauce. The soup was very flavorful and one of the best I've had in a while. The cold noodles while delicious were a bit gloppy. As a main I had Schezwan beef which could have been a bit spicy for my taste but still a good dish. Also brought to the table was a 3 roll sushi lunch which came with choice of soup or salad. Like any Chinese order fortune cookies came at the end of the meal. Service was outstanding, food time from order to delivery at the table was fast and looking around I could see all other patrons in this busy restaurant were enjoying their meals. If you're looking for a nice lunch spot, or perhaps dinner, at a traditional Chinese restaurant this may be the place. read more

I can't believe I haven't wrote a review for Albert's. I've been either eating in the restaurant or ordering takeout from here for years. Some of my favorite things on the menu include the Sizzling rice soup, the spareribs, scallion pancakes, and the four seasons entree. Service is always excellent here and usually if you're eating in the restaurant, Albert is somewhere in the dining room. Because it's right in downtown, it's a usual spot for me as I can just pickup food right when I get off the train from work. Sometimes I'll just pick up an order of pork fried rice to eat with something I make at home. read more

Classic old school Chinese Restaurant. This place is a hidden gem in Huntington. It reminds me of the Chinese Restaurant's when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn. I ate here recently. Very nice interior and the food was excellent! They do Twice-cook Pork like I prefer, with lean slices of pork and some cabbage, although I wish there was more, in a tasty sauce. This includes, not only Albert's but also many other restaurants in Huntington Village: A distinctive (gross) melted plastic / cleaner / chemical smell permeating the restaurant(s). MOST noticeably ROSA'S PIZZA . It's a weird burnt plastic smell and when I walked into Albert's - for the first time- I was like "DAMN- there's that burnt plastic chem smell... AGAIN!". Do you remember Silly Putty ? It smells like Silly Putty almost. So I had to address that because it's overwhelming and disgusting to be huffin' Silly Putty while you eat. DO NOT SIT NEAR THE KITCHEN; whenever someone breezes IN or OUT - "that smell" makes a trail out the door. I cannot believe how STRONG it is. ). REVIEW: Walk in for the first time ever. See a TINY Koi pond with a large family of fish gasping for some elbow room. The Pond was not even big enough for a married couple of Koi ! Off-putting but I'm hungry. Seated with menus . Waitstaff treated us like it was a REALLY busy Friday Night before the holidays -- and it was only 4:30 PM on a weekday Wednesday . Almost fully empty restaurant . OK. I LOVED the fried crunchy noodles and my gosh they were DRIPPING with oil (but I guess that's why we love them). Hot Mustard is ...er...not hot anymore. Remember when you were a KID and that mustard was hotter than hell ? And now duck sauce is pretty much Kayro syrup watered down with a translucent fleshy color and ZERO "tang". I recall it being a cut rate Saucy Susan when I was in my youth many years ago. The Real FOOD: Cold noodles w/ Sesame sauce is my "go to" appetizer . This was pretty good but they added a bit too much MAYO giving me some "ick factor" . My dinner was the Shrimp / Chicken "combo". It was VERY salty and normally this dish can be on the sweet side (which I prefer) . It was ..OK. Will I return ? Probably only for take out. There are No other straight up old school Chinese take outs in Huntington Village as an option . On The Way Out: Oddly noticed a bunch of 40 / 50 / 60 year old Bros at the bar having a jolly time. Weird. Chinese restaurants are NOTORIOUS for weak watery mixed drinks. And so many other BAR options in the Village too. RATING : B minus. The food and service are great. Although, I think the portions are a bit skimpy. The steamed dumplings tasted good but were smaller than I expected. The portion of General Tso's chicken was also smaller than expected but tasted great. Compared to others at my table and the size portions they received, this didn't compare well. We had a small gathering tonight in which we feasted on Beef with Broccoli (so good on a cold autumn evening) with strips of tender beef and freshly steamed broccoli; spare ribs; General Tso's chicken; Coconut Shrimp; Egg Rolls; and more! Of course there was also a generous tray of fresh sushi. Our group had a small section set off by a privacy screen - and the service was exceptional. We had table service for our beverages, while we enjoyed the buffet. And Albert came out to greet us personally! Never disappoints. A little pricier than your average take out joints., but we love the old timey red leather booths with the WIDE fried noodles duck sauce &. Hot tea that is complimentary. Unfortunately -except for the rice and spicy chicken with asparagus--the food was kind of blah. The good Chicken with asparagus very spicy -we order this off menu all the time and it is exactly how it says. Very good Roast pork rice -we order with no vegetables so it is not soggy. Tasty. Egg roll - crunchy and good taste Dumplings -with good taste The bad Boneless ribs -bland ribs and rubbery Beef broccoli--the red was rubbery Sesame chicken -rubbery with too sweet of a taste Now we do eat here a few times a year in the restaurant and always would say a 3.5 or 4. Still my favorite Chinese, but....Food & Service have gone downhill slightly. Egg Roll was extremely doughy, and the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce wasn't hot and had very little Lobster Sauce. We went on a Friday night, and it was busy. However, they were very understaffed for a very busy evening. The server that we had was very good, but she was very overwhelmed. No one came to refill water glasses, etc. I'm afraid that if/when Albert retires/sells the business the quality will drop further. They've already changed the name from ALBERT'S Mandarin Gourmet to Mandarin Gourmet. Looks like the handwriting is on the wall. When I started going there, I lived in Sea Cliff. For the last 9 years I've lived in Whitestone, and it was ALWAYS worth the drive. I will give it another shot, as everyone can have an off nite!! I really hope the do better next time. read more

Generally I'm a fan of East Coast Chinese food, but not tonight. Despite some minor and major mishaps, my in-laws and I made the best out of the situation. First there was a long wait, which got me excited because it gave me the impression this restaurant was popular and reliable. We grabbed a few drinks at the bar. I decided to go with the bowl, which was basically a syrupy and boozy Mai Tai. We were finally seated and each ordered a dish. Long story short, my mother-in-law was unhappy with her food, so she ordered something else. My husband ended up getting food poisoning. And I can't even remember what I got because I probably tried to block it from memory. Truly, the boozy bowl is what saved me during this meal, especially when Albert (supposedly) came by to say hello. I felt like he was friendly, but I was also pretty tipsy, so my relatives pointed out that he was being super misogynistic towards me. Rude. Anywho, we saved a lot of our food for leftovers the next day, but because of the food poisoning incident, I was wary. I definitely wouldn't come back here again on my own but trust my in-laws if they decide it's worth another try. read more
