The decor of the restaurant was like an old Italian mother's home. As soon as I walked in the aroma of fresh herbs hit my senses. I started with the crab stuffed mushrooms and a Caesar salad. The mushrooms sat in a bed of vodka sauce. I literally scooped all the sauce up with the complimentary bread I was given because it was so good. My main dish was the lobster ravioli. This was one of the best dishes I've had in a while. It was very flavorful and also had the vodka sauce. This was my first time here at Mama Mia Too & I most definitely will be back. The service was great too. It seemed like a family run business for sure. Great job. The only thing I would say I would ask to improve (out of pure gluttony lol) would be a bigger portion size on the lobster ravioli dish. Moved here a few months ago. Was very excited to see a cute Italian place nearby. Have been twice. Everyone ordered different dishes yet the sauce all seemed to be the same...Good service, cute old vibe but felt like I was eating a frozen dish / pasta out of a jar which frankly made the cute old house feel dirty and out dated. Have lived in Huntersville for years and never have gone to Mama Mia Too. So for Mother's Day we booked a reservation for 6pm. Despite vacant tables around us, we still were without our main dish after 7:00. Our appetizers arrived ~40 minutes after arrival, 3 mozzarella sticks ($12 for 3), and provided bread with butter packets, paid $5 for the roasted garlic herb dip to accompany our bread (not included/extra cost). Our main course order included 2 orders of chicken fettuccini Alfredo ($26/ea), Parpadella Bolognaise ($24) and a special of shrimp and scallop fettuccini with vodka sauce ($40!). Those that ate the chicken fettuccini Alfredo were unimpressed, stating the chicken was chewy, tasted boiled, and zero flavor. Would have preferred no chicken given the poor taste it added to the dish. The bolognaise was meh. The beef bits had a thawed from frozen taste that unfortunately dominated the dish. The pasta was cooked well. The special.... The list of specials was deep with 6 or 7 options. The server shared them from memory but did not offer prices of the dishes. It would be much better to have a list of dishes with prices for customers to know what they're getting. In this case, they were looking forward to shrimp and scallop pasta. The dish they received left them yearning for more protein unfortunately, and there was a single shrimp and a single scallop on a bed of soupy pasta. It's nice to be in a restored old home. However the dated furniture and carpet left us feeling a bit ick. We saw several chairs around us with screws nearly falling out of them so beware if you do go.... Check the chair's stability before sitting! We left disappointed after reading such rave reviews of how good the food and atmosphere is. Called late on a Friday evening and asked if they could squeeze us in and the older Italian gentleman I spoke to was incredibly friendly and put me down. Now when we arrived, there was hardly anyone there and we were the only reservation.... so he led me astray letting me know he could squeeze me in but still, very nice! The inside is a little dated, but quaint and clean. We started with a Cesar salad, pasta fagioli soup, and their oil/garlic/vinegar dip for the bread. The Cesar was excellent though a little expensive for the size salad. The soup was outstanding! My wife loved the oil dip for the bread! For the mains we had chicken Parmesan and the clam pasta dish. I liked the Parmesan, would order it again tomorrow! My wife said the clam pasta was good, not as good as at the coast, but very tasty. Our server was efficient. He was nice and you could tell he was still learning . Overall we had a nice meal and will back! I was surprised it was not busier on a Friday evening. My daughter and I love this place. We stumbled upon it one Sunday evening and have been back twice since then. You feel like you're walking into your Nanas house from the moment you smell the roasted garlic and tomato sauce. It's a cozy historical spot with delicious food and friendly staff. Everything we've ordered we've loved, including the pasta dishes and eggplant rollatini. My daughters goes crazy for the pappardelle bolognese. Our waitress was distracted and didn't offer the nightly specials which we probably would have ordered. We first visited Mama Mia a number of years ago and had an ok experience. Our friends recently raved about it and we decided to try it again. unfortunately we had the same result as the last time. Don't get me wrong, the service was good. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating. The food however was just ok. I am sorry to say that there wasn't anything that really grabbed me. We started with the calamari and then I had the Zuppa Di Pesce and again it was just ok. I think that there are better options in the Charlotte area, even the Lake Norman area. read more

Second time here. Set in a (guessing) 1890s house. Very nice Italian music playing at a reasonable level. Service is very friendly and very good, though that may be to lack of customers. Mind you, I am eating dinner at 6:00 on a Wednesday. The Ralph salad was a standard Italian but very well dressed. Not too much dressing. I have eaten here twice, and the pasta is good and cooked perfectly, but I don't think homemade. And I don't think they advertise that, so no offense. Highly recommend trying this place. read more

In town doing a training event so one of the sales guys and I decided to try a local pub. We didn't find it but did drive by Mama Mia Too and opted to stop in. Glad we did. Located in an old historic house when you walk in the front door you are greeted by one of the family members. We were taken to our table which would have been an old parlor in the original house. We were quickly given menus and the specials were explained. So many fine delicious sounding dishes the choice was very difficult. They were out of the Lobster ravioli so that narrowed it down. I opted for the scallop and linguine in a delicious garlic wine sauce. He had the scallop and shrimp in a decadent looking vodka sauce. The meal came with fresh bread which we used to sop up the sauces. Delicious. They also had Peroni in bottles. Not as good as on tap but still good. Caprese salad had roma grocery store tomatoes you would find in January, the chef should have been embarrassed to serve them. $5 for garlic infused olive oil and balsamic - balsamic missing and most nice Italian restaurants give you bread and infused olive oil. Main meals were good. Ambiance gross. There is a fine line between quaint/quirky and a dump. This place was a dump. Stains on the ceiling, chunks out of the wall, felt dirty, dessert was served on 2000 NYE plates. Service - our server got both appetizers wrong and a main dish wrong. Took forever to get his attention to get anything. Owner was very present but only to the few regulars who were there. He didn't acknowledge anyone else. I have been to Mama Mia several times and have always had a good experience. However, last Friday I dined there with five friends of mine. When the bills arrived we each paid separately. Within a few minutes the waitress returned and announced in front of EVERYONE that one person in our group did not leave a tip and that she had been instructed by the MANAGER to let us know. I thought that was SO RUDE. In the first place, it's not mandatory to leave a tip and secondly, she had no idea WHY one person did not leave a tip. As it turns out, she simply thought it had been added as a service charge and had not correctly read her bill. But, at any rate it was very thoughtless to embarrass someone without a reason to do so. I've NEVER seen that done in a restaurant and it was very off-putting! Several of us probably won't go back so that $5.00 tip cost the restaurant to lose several customers. Being unkind is never the right approach and seeing our friend humiliated like that was so uncalled for. read more

A long time favorite that after all these years, still does not disappoint. My son and his girlfriend came up from Atlanta over Labor Day and we enjoyed their stay. Ate out several times but on the last night, I wanted someplace that was nice and quite with great food and Mama Mia's in Huntersville came to mind. Back in the late 90's, we were at a meeting in Atlanta and when we were discussing where to go for dinner, one of our friends pointed out that one of the best Italian restaurant that they had found, was in our back yard. Had lived in Cornelius for about 3 years at this time and this place was only about a mile from where I worked in Huntersville. Needless to say, we went as soon as we got back from Atlanta and loved the place. My wife even through a surprise birthday party for me here although I will omit which one it was. One of our favorites and it did not disappoint this time either. Made reservations for 6 pm and because of traffic, were a few minutes late but no problem. The hostess promptly seated us. They have the restaurant broken up with curtains, drapes and other design elements into smaller more intimate spaces that take away from the overall size of the restaurant. It's a house or probably a mansion in it's day, probably built around the turn of the last century in what was then, downtown Huntersville. Completely restored and very tastefully decorated in period furniture in warm inviting colors and textures. We were seated in a nice alcove with a window view on the gardens and street. Our servers were there promptly and we did not want for service the rest of the evening. Several started out with wine and I must admit, they have a great selections of wines by the glass or the bottle. A rather large menu with many items to choose from including 5 veal dishes. My son's girlfriend chose the Lobster Ravioli while my son had the Veal Scallopini. My wife had the Veal Saltimbocco and I chose a Caprese Salad followed by Veal Parmesan. A few minutes later, the bread course arrived. Fresh baked bread, straight from the oven with plenty of butter and olive oil for dipping. A good start. The Caprese Salad arrived next and it was delicious although I will admit I have never had it served in a bowl. Normally presented on a plate with tomato and mozzarella alternating garnished with balsamic and basil. Still good and a good quality mozzarella. Dinner and the table fell silent as everyone proceeded to enjoy their dinner. Flavor, texture, presentation, atmosphere, service etc all worked together to make for a memorable dinner.
