I was looking for a place to eat on a Saturday night while riding down Beech Daly Road. I looked to my left and saw Mama Mia's, the parking lot was crowded and all of a sudden I started thinking about what Italian food I wouldn't mind eating for the night. I stepped in and was greeted and seated in a booth which was my preference. The place looked like a bar/tavern on the inside, mirrors occupied the walls, there was a television on each side of the building and a bar. The waitress and the staff was nice and attentive. Moreover; the food was excellent. I opted for lasagna and a house salad. They were both delicious. I also had an alcoholic beverage that was quite potent. Best pizza in Michigan is right here at Mama Mias. The pizza here is better then any other pizza I have had in Michigan. The breadsticks that come before your meal can almost fill you up making sure that you have plenty of leftovers to take home. My favorite pizza is the eggplant and mushroom. Yes, truth be told I am a fan of their salad dressing and would often order out for the week to build salads at home. My husband and I have been coming here for years and enjoy their vegetarian pizza. The service is generally superior--the "family" can often be a bit arrogant at their back table barking orders at their servers. Note to owners, your customers are watching. I've been here a number of times and have generally enjoyed my time there. I typically get the gnocchi with marinara which is usually pretty good. The last time it was a bit overcooked, but still edible. The service has always been good. Nothing to complain about there. The building is sort of odd. I'm not sure if it used to be something else and was turned into a restaurant or if that's the way it has always been. I don't live there, so really, it's not that big of a deal, but it is something that will catch your eye. I'm not completely over the moon about the food, but it's always hot, accurately made and edible. I think there's something missing in the sauce, but I do keep coming back. I don't know how this place has such good ratings. I've been twice because I like to give places a second chance to see if it was just a bad experience. The food is over priced for the quality. The bread that comes out tastes like it's bag- to- table:cold and nothing special, the flaming cheese was a gigantic block and still cold on the skillet. This is the most dated restaurant I've been to in decades, dark and depressing. But I could put up with the decorating disaster if the food was any good, which means I'll never be back. I ordered the gnokki, what a disappointment, probably cheap vacuum packed stuff from the corner market, and the sauce was so bitter that I couldn't handle more than a bite or two. The only person that enjoyed the meal was someone that had been coming here since she was a child and it was all she knew. I've lived in the area my whole life. Actually got engaged at Redford Mama Mia's in 1976. Through the years, I've tried the restaurant dozens of times. I went with a friend on Valentines Day this year. We both ordered different versions of a combination plate, not the same choices. All I can say is that all 5 of the dishes were inedible. They looked like a mess, could have been other people's left overs. We didn't eat our food and the waitress never asked why our food wasn't eaten. I'll definitely never go back. Ordered the grilled salmon. The cook put too much salt on the salmon, and it was grilled too hard. Why a cook would over salt your food is beyond me. It is always better to under season than to over season because you can always add more if needed. The ice tea was watered down, taste more like water than tea. I replaced it with a diet coke. It's Sunday and Christmas holiday time and there was only one waitress. Large groups started coming in and she was doing it all, including working the register. She was running around like a chicken with her head cut-off...poor thing. Not a good experience for the high prices they charge for food. Will not be going back ever. read more

Great pizza and entrees, and the wait staff is super friendly. Hi Theresa! My wife is vegetarian, so we order the vegetarian special pizza quite often. The toppings (tomato, broccoli, onions and mushrooms) are diced up pretty fine and cover the whole top of the pizza nicely, not just a few mushrooms and tomatoes here and there. Usually I don't like whole tomatoes on my pie, because of the sogginess, but somehow Mama Mia makes it work. The pepperoni they use is top notch... the smaller variety that curls up on the edges. The entrees I've tried are excellent. My favorite is the Veal Picante with the "old school" lemon and garlic sauce served with soup or salad and potato or pasta. Awesome! Our family goes here very often to celebrate a family birthday and they ALWAYS deliver us good food, great service, and make us feel truly special. It may not be the most trendy looking decor, but the love the genuine caring that this family-run restaurant gives out--and that is worth so much more than any fancy-smancy decor. We love how the staff has been there forever and how the cooks even come out to tell us hello. It makes you feel great to spend your money to get the love and caring, and the great food, that we always get when we visit. There is so much variety at this restaurant and everything is fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. As a local resident who lives nearby the restaurant, I have noticed this restaurant becoming more busy each year. I highly recommend their pizza and although I have tried a few Italian dishes here and there (and they were all fabulous) the pizza and salad is so good I always order the same thing every time. My husband does not care for the pizza quite as much as I do but then again he likes cheap, gross pizza like Hungry Howie's, etc. so we do not value pizza in the same level of critique. I am a very tough critic about pizza and very rarely find restaurants that serve it perfectly every time. This place does that without flaw, every single time! Let me first say, I loved this place! I live north of Lansing and a friend of mine who lives in Indiana came up to visit family down in Redford. So I did an internet search of best pizza places in Redford and Mama Mia's came up. Seeing as it was pretty close to where her family lived at, we decided to give them a try. Let me tell you something! The pizza was awesome, the chicken strips were spectacular and the service waitress was very curteous, knowledgable and polite. I was not sure who the gentleman was that we talked with, but he was an older guy who was told that we were from out of town and that we had found his place online. He made it a point to talk with us for a few minutes about the place and how we found everything so far. All in all, the place had a very nice, cozy and family air about it that you do not find in many of the more modern style restaurants. Between the great service, the great environment, and the great food they definitely will have me coming back for more the next time I am down that way. read more
