Mamadou's brioche loaf is delicate and super tasty ... the taste of eggs and rich butter without the density ... a feathery and light, melt in your mouth goodness ... so easy to eat and one can't stop eating it. You don't need anything else although in the picture is an Austrian apricot jam from Staud in the Wachau valley, which is famous for apricots and everything apricot. My family can't live without Mamadou's bread. We travel to buy fresh bread at least 3 times a week. The sourdough has just the right tang and crust. If you are lucky enough to get a warm one it won't make it home unless you live within 3 blocks. I am NOT a bread person; I pass on it almost always! But this bread is not like other bread. It is worth the drive. Remember to buy extra because you will need it. And other bread will never taste the same. Oh, I almost forgot! Everyone is so friendly and warm. Today we visited Mamadou's at their new Boston Public Market location. We don't live near their Winchester store so it was our first time. Now, it's no secret that Boston is not the croissant capital of the world... Many attempts, even at otherwise respectable bakeries, fall far below international standards. Having said that, Mamadou's almond croissants are really great! They don't look exactly like most others ( e.g. Athans, another excellent local exception), but they certainly match up to the best I've had in Europe. A bit pricey? Maybe. But worth it! We also bought a wheat bread that is exceptionally moist & flavorful. Can't go wrong there either. read more

I heard about this bakery yesterday and had to stop by to try a few things. I got some breads (a brioche loaf, an artisan sourdough bread, a baguette) and some viennoiseries (croissants and pains au chocolat) Everything was delicious. I got the chance to meet Mamadou, the owner and he is so kind and friendly. I will definitely come again. If you're ever in the area (Winchester, MA) stop by and treat yourself to some baked goods. They're made fresh daily and you can see the bakers working behind the counter. The aroma of freshly-made bread welcomes you when you walk in. I went, I ate, I loved. I will be back. I just found out that they recently opened a second bakery in Arlington, MA and I look forward to visiting it soon. read more

The bakery is unreliable. They were inside making bread, but the doors were locked. I'm disappointed that this bakery didn't open on time. The sign on the door said open at 9 am, but it was 9:05 and we were waiting outside in the bad weather. What bakery can't be open by 9??? I ended up going to Tous Les Jours. I don't usually eat or even crave bread. That seems to have changed a month ago when I tried a croissant from here. Every time I think about it, I have to go the next day to buy one from here. Exceptional French bread making by Mamadou. Any of the breads are excellent, but the butter croissants are phenomenal, and (when they have it) you have to try their rosemary/cranberry bread. This place is a gem in the rough! (thanks bubba h). Definitely worth the drive if you live somewhere outside of Winchester. Mamadou's puts a lot of care into making their loaves of delicious bread here. The cranberry walnut is a very rich bread and if you get there early, you'll get a loaf. Great little bakery that focuses mostly on fresh bread. The smell of this bakery will make your mouth water. They focus heavily on bread and are light on pastries so don't expect a large variety of breakfast goodies that you might typically be found in a cafe. We spent a month in Paris last year and discovered that we could not eat croissants anymore unless we were in France. That is, until we discovered Mamadou's in Winchester, Massachusetts. In the unlikeliest of spots, in the unlikeliest of neighborhoods, we found a croissant to rival those found in Paris. We will most certainly visit Mamadou's frequently during our stay in Winchester! I live near by and stop in at least once every other week. I typically pick up a loaf of Italian or whole wheat bread, a loaf of olive bread or sourdough and a baguette. The bread is always very fresh, frequently still warm and steaming and exceptionally tasty. This is definitely the best bread that I've had in the Boston area. read more

This bakery is spectacular. We went there at noon in the hope of getting almond croissants. They had sold out, but we were so excited about trying their almond croissants that Mame (wife of Mamadou and co-owner of bakery) agreed to make another batch that day, if possible. I came back later and they had made the best, crispy, buttery, soft-in-the-middle, flaky on the outside, perfect almond-pastey with crunchy toasted almonds on the top, almond croissant we've had in a very long time, if ever. I first entered Mamadou's artisan bakery while visiting my sister. Hailing from Arlington, Virginia, I wish French bread were as good in Washington, D.C. as in Winchester, Mass. at Mamadou's. I have lived in Paris and I have lived in Dakar, where Mamadou Mbaye comes from in Senegal. His baguette, sourdough boule, and multigrain loaves are THE BEST I've tasted anywhere. There is nothing like the aroma of freshly baked bread, unless it is sinking your teeth into a crispy golden-brown loaf, hearing the crack and crunch, and fully savoring the first chew. My roomies and I are bonafied bread-a-holics. Imagine the horror as I realized I had forgotten to pick up some on my last grocery run when it was clearly my turn to supply the weekly staple. The thought of braving another hour of Boston's fine roads and drivers back to Clear Flour wasn't particularly appealing. Out comes my trusty Yelp app which pointed me to an artisanal bakery in the middle of Winchester with five stars. Somebody pinch me! The Hallelujah Chorus was on permanent repeat as I sped my way down twisty back roads to Mamadou's. The french bread was crunchy but chewy and the cranberry pecan delectable when toasted and smeared with cream cheese. I hear it through the grapevine that you can find Mamadou's around many of the local farmer's markets. No need to drive if you don't have access to a set of wheels. Although, I do look forward to the day when I can sit down and have a piece of pastry with my tea when I do drop in for bread. read more

We have been getting weekly artisan loaves of bread from Mamadou for bout 8 years now. Stellar consistency in quality, and Mamadou is very picky about getting high quality, organic ingredients for his baked goods. My absolute favorite is the pecan cranberry loaf. NOTHING like having bread this good, fresh from the oven. It feels like it would be sacrilege to put butter or anything else on it. So good as is. The food is absolutely delicious the bread is crunchy but soft, the inside is super goey.the croissants are a nice golden-brown color with raspberry jam in the middle.
