Bought half a pound of rainbow cookies and they were delish!
    C C.

Stumbled upon this neighborhood gem. Cookies were displayed behind the counter. If you see something you like and it's not shown, ask them if they have it! They stored their rainbow cookies in the fridge cause of warm weather. Cookie overall was delicious. The taste wasn't too sweet and they didn't use a ton of food coloring. Overall, great bakery!

Dry crumbly cake. Nothing like I asked for. Stale. Taste like nothing.

Ordered a chocolate cake with buttercream here and it was a disaster. So crumbly and dry. Falling apart after cutting it and not at all chocolatey. Had no taste and was stale. For a 6 inch she charged me $38. Not worth it. Tasted old. So so disappointed. When I called and told the owner and told her, she told me to let it defrost for a bit. She said something like she would check with the baker and call me. She never called me back.

This neighborhood bakery has been around for as long as I can remember. I use to work across the street during JHS when there was a Baskin Robbins on the opposite corner. Situated next to Nick's Pizzeria, it was always a nice spot to take home some yummy desserts after a fantastic meal of exquisite pizza. For new year's eve, I bought four desserts for my family of six to share after dinner. The group favorite was Key Lime Pie, with Cheesecake coming in second. Chocolate Cake was good for a bite or two, but definitely too sweet for most people to finish a whole slice. The only cake that struck out with the crowd was the Tiramisu. Overall, a solid selection of sweets. If you don't know the history of this place, google up some articles online about the amazing owner. She is a very unique person who has developed a relationship with the community and continue to run this wonderful little bakery in a neighborhood that appreciates its small businesses.

    Almond tart

Old school is what comes to mind upon entering this long time tiny bakery at the far end of the shopping Austin Street in Forest Hills. No flashy cakes adorned with pink cream roses or anything of that nature. I came in mid afternoon. It did not appear there was a wide selection. The woman behind the counter asked if I needed anything as I kept looking at the offerings. I asked what that was as I pointed in the glass counter. She suggested I try the almond tart, as it was "not too sweet". I took her up on that and now can't wait to go back to get some more.

The decor of Bonelle Pastry Shop is humble and narrow-spaced. They serve a great variety of pastries, desserts and cookies freshly with reasonable price. We got their almond croissant and marble pound cake. It's was decent but without the delicate flavor. The texture of croissant was soft with no layers, not my type but my husband loves it. The marble pound cake was in great balance of chocolate & vanilla and not too sweet. It's not the best bakery but definitely a bakery that reminds people of the neighborhood of Forest Hills. However, they take cash only and we were concerned about this during the pandemic.

Plum tart with marzipan/streusel topping. Excellent. 4.75
    Glenn C.

I was walking around Forest Hills Gardens/Forest Hills with a few others and I happened to pass by this place and it looked on the outside like a good old fashioned pastry shop so I stopped in for pastries for later. After looking at some of their cookies, I went with their plum tart after asking what it was and the woman working there saying that it had an almond filling (yep I'll get this) and another person got a slice of blueberry pie as it also looked fantastic and they are in season. The prices were very reasonable, being $4.75 for the rather large tart and $5 even for the slice. Both were fantastic so it's hard to pick my favorite between the two. The almond filling which reminded me of marzipan went well with the tart plums and the sweet streusel topping. The blueberry pie was probably the most filled one I've ever had with a very light delicate buttery crust. I prefer a slightly more done crust but that's just personal preferences. Both were in short excellent and very reasonable at their prices. Very good local bakery and I can see why they have a following.

    Eclair
    Austin K.

This is just for the eclair - I wish I could have loved it given the charming shop owner and how she professed that it just came out. But alas the whipped cream (rather than custard) tasted chemical-like and the pastry itself didn't have the texture of an eclair. Maybe the other pastries are much better, I might give this place another try based on her charm alone.

Almond croissant, chocolate muffin, cheese danish and apple turnover. All very good.
    Rion C.

This is one of my favorite pastry bakeries. Even though it doesn't push out the volume it once did, it is still yummilicious!!! Got my standard apple turnover which is a fave of the house. The almond croissant is back with the previous recipe (or baker since the last one I got before this was different and I was disappointed) so I'm happy. Decided to pick up the chocolate muffin which the kids like. Tried the cheese danish and the consensus was it's another hit. Always recommend going here for a supply of bakery snacks, especially for weekends and holidays. It always puts a smile on our faces.

There's usually a line of some length during peak hours and especially around the holidays. You can tell by the sheer volume of baked goods and cakes available in their window displays that they sell a lot daily. This location is on the main drag of the little downtown section of Forest Hills, the baked goods in the front window display connect to a tall and long glass counter along the left side of the store that extends almost to the back. At the back middle and along the right side of the wall there's seating for about two dozen people at small cafe tables. They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. I've purchased their apple pie, fruit tart, berry napoleon, red velvet and chocolate fudge cakes from this or other locations in the past and they're all solid choices for desserts to share with a larger group, though I find a lot of their cake options to be on the richer side. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. Their apple pie is one of my favorite apple pies anywhere tho!
