I've been to Mama's several times before and really enjoyed it, but I hadn't been in a while and this last visit was terrible. The first indication something changed was the nasty bathroom odor as soon as you walk in... That should have my warning! But we decided to stay based on previous visits. I ordered a salad with chicken(?)...the mixed greens in the salad were extremely tough but the chicken was the worst. It came out all stringy... looked like 3D printed chicken... I was looking at it like what the heck is this and the waitress immediately came over. She said it looks that way because it was tenderized. I've never seen tenderized chicken turn into long strings ... she offered "untenderized" chicken but at that point I wasn't eating any questionable chicken there. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, but you just can't make up for bad food! My husband had a lunch special which tasted fine but sent him to the bathroom within 20 minutes which is always concerning. Food was expensive and poor quality. We'll be skipping this one from now on. Such a shame... used to be good! read more

Honestly, prior to coming here we had driven through a blizzard and I was so worried that this place wouldn't live up to expectations. As a walk in, we got sat immediately and the owner was so excited to know we were gluten free and walked us through their gluten free menu very excitedly. Once we got sat, we were walked through the menu once more and were told about how this place is one of the (if not the) best gluten free restaurants in New Jersey. Just moved into the area from Bergen County and I work in Hudson. Mama's was my first delivery order at my new residence. I consider myself spoiled as far as food goes and there are lots of options from where I lived and worked. Bottom line, this place is great. Deep dish meat pie was fantastic. The regular pie was well seasoned with a nice medium crust. Calamari was above average. The homemade mozzarella sticks were ridiculously good. Oh yes. The dry buffalo wings. My family and I are looking for good, kid-friendly restaurants in the area and were happy to see all of the positive reviews! We were sadly disappointed with the quality of our dishes. I love love salt but the soup was so overly salted that I had to add water and ice from my water glass to it and it was still too unpalatable. The bowl of soup went unfinished and barely touched. There were many inconsistencies in the meal. One half of the main dish was bland and I had to add a lot of salt and cheese to make it halfway decent: it simply wasn't seasoned enough. The other half was soggy and overly sweet having been covered with balsamic vinegar reduction. We ordered a pizza and the sauce was just too darn salty as well. We wanted to love it. I visited Mama Cafe Baci on January 20, 2024. It has been on my list of places to visit since I found out I had Celiac Disease. It was so nice to be able to eat at a place comfortably, not worrying about getting sick. The owner, Tomasso, made us feel at home, checking in on us throughout the night. He explained that they take every precaution to ensure that GF food is safe for their customers. They even place a GLUTEN-FREE sign on the table so all servers are aware. We had the mozzarella sticks (excellent), the fried calamari, and clams casino. All were yummy! For dinner I got the duet with a pasta dish paired with eggplant. Both were tasty. Portions were large. I was so excited to order dessert, but it was so tiny. I ordered the chocolate cake but it was bite-sized and just okay. I'll stick with the savory over the sweet on my next visit. I am looking forward to going back for those mozzarella sticks again. If you have a gluten allergy, you must give this place a try. read more

We picked this restaurant to celebrate two birthdays because it was recommended. we ordered our usual very dry bombay martinis when they arrived to our table the waitress informed us this is as dry as the bartender can make them (???) when we tasted them it was obvious they gave us the cheap bar gin. We told the waitress they were not what we ordered she said the bartender was new. She took them away and came back to our table to tell us they had to go to the basement to get the Bomby.They obviously knew it was the wrong gin. Then we ordered mussel appetizer they had about a dozen mussels with many that weren't open and some were empty shells. Mussels are very inexpensive they charged $15 for a small plate!?! We decided to just order apps to be safe the scallops which were good but you got four scallops for $22! also had the calamari that was mushy and uncooked. . There was a full parking lot when we pulled in -- on a cold March evening. It was cold but I was more comfortable with outdoor seating and they said they could accommodate us. We were guided to a single table behind the restaurant where there were warm blankets on the back of the chairs. The live music was clear, and we had a perfect spot where the owner and his main employee both came to greet us. The gluten free specials and menu were brought out along with a little framed item indicating our table was gluten free. The first course we ordered was chicken soup and it came out immediately with gluten free bread. The soup was delicious (I'd definitely come back just for that). They then brought us two plates with rice and pasta -- on the house! The main meals we ordered were very good -- I had the duet -- half my plate was a giant osso bucco and the other side a vegetable mix with eggplant, red pepper, and a range of other things. My husband devoured his lasagna and then ordered a tiramisu which went down so quickly that I assume meant he loved it. The sweetness though of the place is the passion of the Italian owner who shared stories of his childhood with us. All of the waitresses were friendly and helpful. I don't know how they make it, but it's one of the best portobello mushroom dishes I've ever had. We had the Eggplant Francese and Luigi's Old School entrees, and both were delicious! The Eggplant Francese is lemon-y, and the Old School had vegan sausage that tasted so close to actual sausage. The flavors were on point in both dishes. Service was prompt and friendly. Initially we received two Old School entrees and we told the waitress that actually we ordered an Eggplant Francese, and the waitress was prompt in fixing the mistake and even gave my sister a small plate of Old School to munch on while the Eggplant Francese was being made, which was a nice gesture. My friends and I were looking for a restaurant with some vegan options and Mama's did not disappoint. Mamas brought out little sample plates for us to try a penne vodka pasta and a vegan pasta. Both were very tasty. My friend got vegan mozzarella sticks and eggplant sienna. She was overwhelmed by how many vegan options there were. My other friend got the champagne chicken and I got garlic knots with mozzarella and the chicken toscana. The chicken cutlets were nice and thin with good flavor. The garlic knots were similar to their regular bread but drenched in oil, garlic, and cheese. They were so soft and tasty. The portion sizes were large and we only got the lunch size! I wanted to take a friend out to dinner and let her pick. I am not a vegan, she is, so she chose this place. I cannot say enough about this amazing place. First of all, they have THREE full menus, a regular menu, a vegetarian menu and a vegan menu. Who does this?? Vegans are lucky if they get a salad and an impossible burger at most places. They had the equivalent of Cheesecake Factory sized menus with tons of options for me and for her. The servers were happy, like, genuinely happy people-I immediately felt like-hey, they don't hate working here (like I sense in almost every restaurant in Morristown). I thought, they must take care of their team here. They must !! They start you off with a sample of pasta and hot rolls. YUM The portions are generous and enough to take home for another meal. And most important, delicious beyond words. I said to myself, this has to be a fluke-this one amazing visit. I told my husband, and also let him eat the amazing doggie bag I brought home and then a week or two later-we took a road trip (drove 40 minutes to get there) one Sunday. I had the EXACT same experience. Wildly happy, kind hostesses, servers and I think the owner or head-chef talked football with my husband while we waited for our table and came around and asked how everything was. This is my new favorite place-we went right from yard working to eat, so we were super casual, but we could sit in or outside, they had a live musician and the piped in music was all Sinatra. I believe in life you get what you pay for, I won't call this place expensive, but the food was delicious, the options were plentiful and the servers and staff seemed happy--it was worth every penny we paid. My husband and I are vegan, and the choices are vast, and every dish we tried did not disappoint. No matter who we bring, there are options for all.
