We struggled to find an above average restaurant in this town and ended up here since it did not have sandwiches on its menu. What a pleasant surprise, the food was awesome. Three of us ordered Thai chicken and my wife ordered the Bangkok bowl. The ingredients were fresh and carefully selected, as the dish had a slightly sweet curry sauce on it. The chicken thigh was on top of a bed of short grain brown rice appropietly cooked for the dish. Veggies such as broccoli and eggplant were around the edges. The Bangkok bowl was slightly different as the samosas had a fair amount of heat to them. The waiter recommended mixing them with the rice and fried chickpeas, which worked well. For dessert, the rose and cardamom coffee glee had little rose flavor. I asked and they said it was infused as well as the garnish on top, but I failed to taste it. Ditto for the chocolate orange ganache, in which I could not taste the orange flavor. No points lost, the deserts were still better than average, not too sweet. The food was great, would recommend the bread starter, which came fresh out the oven. I had the picanha which was perfectly cooked and had a great chimichurri sauce. She had the salad with salmon, the salmon was delicious but they went a bit heavy with the dressing on the salad. The only downside is the wait times, very long to get sat, even for folks who did have reservations, and then a very long wait for the food, for getting the bill, etc. likely just a bit understaffed but something to be mindful of if you're in a rush. Stone Row Pub was a uniquely terrible dining experience. I have no idea how this place has positive reviews. We visit Jim Thorpe annually and were excited to try this place given its vegan options. When we entered the restaurant, the set-up was a little confusing. They did seat us pretty quickly though, and the service was probably the only positive to this experience. My husband and I both ordered cocktails; he had the Manhattan while I had a special vodka drink they were offering that day. Our drinks were overall fine but not anything special. My husband's Manhattan was very basic tasting. The menu and the food were the worst parts. The menu is unnecessarily long and phony sounding, like they are trying to be quirky but just come across as fake and condescending. There's extra, unnecessary description of the food that makes the menu difficult and frankly annoying to review. We ordered the bread teaser as well as the hummus. The pesto and the hummus were basic store level quality. The bread was definitely undercooked. For our entrees, we ordered the Cleopatra salad and a pasta dish. The salad tasted fine enough but it was basically just romaine lettuce with a very light dusting of nutritional yeast, vegan cheese, and a very low amount of chickpeas/protein. The pasta was an absolute travesty. It was extremely oily, flavorless, and bland. To top it all off, the food is extremely expensive! They have absolutely no business charging that much. The interior of the place is also a waste of space. It doesn't make any sense that it calls itself a pub. There's also stupid decor everywhere, including a sign that says "no" leading out to an employee-only location. I guess that's supposed to be funny but just comes across as condescending. It's a shame that this place has such a good location with Jim Thorpe and apparently can make a pretty penny serving subpar food and weird vibes. Don't waste your money. read more

During our visit to Jim Thorpe PA we found this cute, highly rated spot tucked in a building along Race St. Cozy, homey atmosphere we were greeted by our very friendly server, Holly. What a sweet woman, sat us at a great table for two that was on a raised floor inside a bay window, so beautiful. We started with a couple of craft cocktails that they featured, a Bourbon Mash. This might have been one of the best bourbon drinks we have had, made with Buffalo Trace, vanilla simple syrup, apple cider and ginger beer, delicious. Holly told us everything thing they make is from scratch and their menu changes all the time. Truly high end pub food. I heard the burgers here were awesome so I went with it. This 5.5 ounce house ground burger patty, grilled and served on house made bread, tomato and organic greens. Cheddar cheese & chipotle sauce was not the biggest burger I ever had but it might have been the best. Flame cooked, tender, juicy and flavorful. Came with a side of house made potato salad which was excellent. My wife loves BBQ and when she saw the Kentucky BBQ on the menu she had to go with it. Traditional southern slow cooked pulled pork served on house made bread, chipotle bbq sauce, pickled onions and organic greens. This was amazing, just as good if not better than places in Kentucky. Our group of eight had a wonderful experience at Stone Row Pub & Eatery. We were in town celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday, and this was the nicest meal we had planned. Start to finish we had a fantastic time. The decor and ambiance were lovely, sort of eclectic and very charming. The drinks were a big hit--I had a delicious hibiscus mocktail (and my kids insisted on getting their own too), while the rest of the table had a mix of tasty cocktails and well-curated beers. They accommodated our dietary restrictions easily. All the food was delicious, with particular raves for the sloppy Josephine, the steak, and the mustard salmon. The table bread was the best gluten-free bread I have tried in 15 years GF. And best of all for us, they really made us feel so welcome. We have two small kiddos who can get a little rowdy in restaurants, and the whole staff was so sweet to them and very understanding of our general level of chaos. When I read some of the bad reviews here, I really couldn't believe how stuck up some people are about the rules of specific places. Anyways, my fiancée and I were on a trip to celebrate our engagement in March, a rather cold time. We immediately felt warm and cared for when walking into Stone Row. Their menu changes daily, and it seems we found a good day for their menu. I had a Guinness (not draft, but that's just fine) and my partner had probably one of the best Shirley Temples known to man. I had the smoked mac, which was absolutely amazing and filling. My partner wasn't super hungry, so she opted for buttered pasta (a staple of hers), which she has now described as the best buttered pasta she's ever eaten. Our server, Holly, clearly has experience in hospitality and service. She was so welcoming and caring from the moment we walked in until we left happy and full. She even went out of her way to provide extra cherries for the Shirley Temple and extra Parmesan cheese for the buttered pasta, along with taking a picture of the both of us. If I were running a Michelin star restaurant, she'd be the first person I'd call. The pub is very hole-in-the-wall type (as most things are in Jim Thorpe) and it's very welcoming with soft lighting and a true stone-finish, borderline bard core look to boot. I felt comfortable in every situation I was there, and we will be returning whenever we are back in the area. My first thoughts are, don't bring kids here. I saw a picture of a kids menu on yelp or google menu so figured this was a safe pick. When we walked in the lady who greeted us (she was very curt with no emotion) simply said the menu changes daily and there is no kids menu. We decided to go with it anyway because they weren't crazy hungry and we walked a decent ways to get there. The inside is nice and inviting. They've preserved the old charm and character of the building really well. We were seated upstairs in the back with a view of the walled hillside. Our server tried to be friendly, but was very pretentious. I will give them points, they gave the kids crayons and the table coverings were a couple of thin sheets of paper they could write on so that part worked out .... but then why not have a kids menu? The items on the menu are well described with lots of detail and there was quite a variety to choose from. The Bangkok bowl kept calling out to me - $22 crispy pan-fried SPICY samosas (millet & sunflower seeds & potato), mild Thai sauce (wine, garlic, basil, cilantro, red pepper, cornstarch, brown sugar, curry powder, coconut oil, soy milk), sauteed veg, fresh kim chi, roasted chickpeas, grilled broccoli, velvety brown rice. You could add steak 12, salmon 10 or chicken 7, but I didn't. Other orders included a Beyond Delicious Burger (pea protein & coconut) on house made bread, tomato, special sauce (pickles, smoked paprika, house-made mayo + ketchup & mustard) & tomato with coleslaw (vinegar, cabbage, onion celery, cukes, red peppers, caraway seed) plus organic greens $18 Steak Salad - greens, chuck tender medallions, parmesan, sauteed mushrooms & caramelized onions, cucumbers, carrots & roasted tomatoes $28 and lastly a b.l.t. biscuit - bacon, organic greens, tomato, egg-free garlic aioli, served on house made bread & a choice of coleslaw or potato salad $17 The artisan bread they brought out to start (house made focaccia added herbed oil (includes garlic, sunflower seeds, nutritional yeast, basil) was tasty and kept the kiddos happy and occupied. My meal was very good and filling, lots of flavor with a spicy punch in those samosas. The greens were fresh and all of the ingredients went well together. The Thai sauce on the side was delicious. My mother enjoyed the Burger and my wife enjoyed her steak salad. My son wasn't a fan of the bread from her BLT. I tried a bite and agreed the bacon and bread just had a bland char flavor. Drink wise they had some great choices. Their cocktails and beer list (mostly local choices) had a nice variety and their 'rare whiskey' menu (mostly bourbon) was outstanding with many hard to find bourbons! I had such a hard time choosing, but I went with a glass of Rock Hill Farms (very hard to find) for an after meal treat that was absolutely delicious. The wife had a Cosmic Cosmo $18 that I'll attach a picture of. My mom and the kids shared a chocolate ganache for dessert $9 and all was good in the world. My final thoughts are this is a great date or adult type of place to grab a bite. The menu is well thought out and had some great selections. If you want something outside of the box, you'll find it on the menu. The seating options all looked like home runs - the downstairs looked homey, upstairs I'd grab a seat overlooking the streets below, the bar seating area looked like a great time. The biggest con was the staff on our visit needed to smile and be more personable, they were way too uptight and judgmental. I felt like I was in a strict classroom instead of a restaurant. Example - on the wall near our table was a faded painting of a woman on plaster. My mother commented it was beautiful and asked the woman who cleared our table if that was an image of her. Her reply was a snarky no and her body language came off as a sarcastic haha funny now get the f&%^ out. Anyway have a great time here on a date night or with a group of friends/other adults. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming, but it was our server, Holly, who truly made the experience unforgettable. Holly was superb. She had so much knowledge to share, from the fascinating history of the building to detailed insights about the food and drinks. Everything they serve is made in-house, from the fresh juices in the cocktails to even the ruffage in the dishes, and you can really taste the difference. Holly checked in with us just the right amount, always with a smile and a great sense of humor. She had us laughing throughout the meal, which meant more than she probably realized. A bit a a disappointment with the service. The food was good, a bit pricy for what you get, but good. When we walked in we were met with a host stand with rope/stanchions that made it look like a private party. The hostess was matter of fact, pointing to a QR on the wall, saying we had to scan it to see the menu before being seated. We did so and returned to the host stand and she said she would get our table ready. She made sure that we scanned the menu. Not a very good first impression. She was very matter of fact like we should've known the drill. And why were we required to scan the menu before being seated? There was a QR at the table. We were seated, got our drinks, got our food and did not see the server until we were almost finished with our meals. The server was the same person that greeted us, the hostess. I had not yet finished my plate when she walked up with an iPad, asking how I wanted to pay for the meal. I looked at her and said I was not done, but we would most likely use a card. She asked if we wanted a dessert and walked away. Minutes later, I had finished my meal, and my wife had finished her meal. She came up with the iPad and handed it to me and stood there and stared at me. I looked at the plates in front of me and suggested that she could clear the plates. She took my plate and left the other on the table. I suggested she could take both, but she did not. I told her I felt rushed and she said nothing, just stood there watching me interact with the IPad. I handed the iPad back to her and off she went, leaving one dirty plate on the table. Never to be seen again. I hope this is not the standard of service that the owners expect from their staff. It was kind of a mixed impression because the food was good but very off putting the way, the server/hostess handled the whole checkout process and the very odd way that we were greeted with a roped off area and direction to scan the menu before we would be seated. It's Jim Thorpe, so maybe the service standards are different, but the prices were higher than other restaurants in the town, so we should expect a basic level of service that we did not get. read more

When I asked if I could get the burger without the spam on top she said they couldn't since it was all prepared together and I would have to take it off myself once the food came out. It's always awkward to leave a bad review for a restaurant that seemingly has so many good ones. You are left to question your own sanity and place in the world as you can't possibly be the only one who sees the travesty unfolding before you. Are people truly that easily intimidated into pretending that this is either acceptable or good? Maybe it's a byproduct of being in a tiny enclave in rural Pennsylvania, where the customers don't know any better than to think that surly indifference is a mark of prestige and class. Margaret White, the "proprietress," is clearly not of the mind that the customer is always right. On the contrary, she must have picked up the idea somewhere that if you made a uninspired product, skimped on staff, attempted to do everything yourself, and made customers jump through a lot of arbitrary hoops just to satisfy your own ego, you might be able to pass your mediocrity off as something desirable and meaningful. She has even hired a bevy of coconspirators willing to perpetuate this assault on unwitting customers. The Stone Row Pub & Eatery, located on Race Street in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, bills itself as a "classy casual boutique pub with a menu full of hand-crafted dishes" that is "meat-friendly, plant-forward and offers plenty of gluten free and vegan items." They also claim that their menu is so flexible, that "folks with allergies or dietary concerns can comfortably dine with carefree omnivores." A casual search of previous reviews of diners reveals quite a different story. The word "pretentious" came up a lot. *** I clearly did not read the website or possibly even look at the menu when I initially tried to book a reservation, which I accept responsibility for. However, there was a time when we would try a restaurant without getting a fully vetted dossier on the pros or cons. We had faith that it was an operating establishment that might have some reason for existing beyond inevitability. I guess I saw all the good reviews and assumed that it was a decent restaurant. I called and left a detailed message after their long, detailed message, and requested a table for two on a busy Saturday night. I had almost forgotten about it when I got back a long, detailed message about all the obstacles we might face should we commit to dining with them, including parking, which was likely unavailable. The gist of the message was that they were too busy to answer the phone and good luck getting in. It's never a good sign when the restaurant menu has a section called "Caveats" but there it was. No outside food "including baby food" was allowed. No check splitting. No more than 15 people were allowed in their vestibule, which given the size of the restaurant and their purposeful not filling of seats, you have to question the entire reservation process. Why would you expect me to be on time, to the extent that you'll give my reservation away after ten minutes but won't seat me for 30 minutes, after I arrive on time? I couldn't tell if the lack of printed menus was a carryover from the pandemic or simply another example of the proprietor's desire to exert control, but we were forced to use a QR code to view the menu. I expect this from a fish and chips takeout joint, not someone billing themselves as fine dining. But that's not what bothered me. When she went to seat us, she asked if we had both downloaded the menu to our phones and I said yes, while my wife said she didn't have her phone. I told the owner it was fine, we could both use my phone. This wasn't an extensive menu, after all. She insisted that we take her filthy, cracked iPad (not before dropping it), making it clear that this was a demand. I very nearly walked out right there, it was so uncomfortable and condescending. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice enough, once seated, although strange to see so many empty tables with the town packed and so many diners waiting to be seated. We had been told to expect a 30-minute wait on any dish since "good food takes time." This is apparently in contrast to the rest of the culinary community. It didn't take that long but we were warned just in case. The menu changes regularly so I don't see much point in critiquing individual dishes but everything we had was poorly done. Undercooked pasta. A dinner roll sitting in a pool of oil. Bland, uninspired dishes. We are well traveled and experienced diners. This was pedestrian at best but trying excruciatingly hard to be eccentric. Feel free to look through their reviews such as the man who ordered a burger and when he requested ketchup, was told he should taste it first because according to the server, it didn't "need" ketchup. He determined it needed ketchup. They never brought it. With all the inequities in the world today, why I am bothering with a tiny restaurant in the middle of nowhere? Because I think it's morally repugnant to allow these people to continue to inflict themselves on any other unsuspecting diners. read more

Very peaceful ambience. Owner was able to suggest up front without pressuring if we would want to look at the menu first before getting seated as it may or may not be of our choice. We decided to give it a try. Menu changes each day so they have QR codes for the menus. Food was delicious and of good size. Waitress was nice (bit rushed for taking orders) and was able to give us a quick info on the town by her nice drawing as shown in the picture. We had black bean and mushroom burgers. Mushroom soup was delicious as well with coconut on the top. Sipping chocolate was just okay (felt more watery). We will definitely be back. Wow, amazing food, service and ambience. The drinks non-alcoholic and alcoholic were unquestionably amazing and unique. The food which changes frequently was amazing! We had NZ imported rib eye with a sauce that was both flavorful and delicious complimenting the steak to perfection. And our appetizer salad! Yes a salad which was the best! The Cleopatra we so good I'm considering going back tomorrow, just for that. Second visit here and this place still holds up. Had a great meal with two friends here. The herbaceous salad with steak was delicious and their fancy sodas are a nice non alcoholic option. Be warned this town is packed in October so parking is really tricky and you may have to wait an hour for a table. Its really worth it though to have fresh food prepared with thoughtfulness. The wait staff and host did a good job managing the crowds on a busy night. We ordered the BLT on biscuit and could not find the bacon. lol The bacon is the star here and should be plentiful and higher quality. For $17 it was definitely not worth the price tag. The biscuit was so tiny 4 bites and gone. The chicken salad sandwich was flavorful but I did. not care for the bread. It was made from rice flour and very doughy. I was expecting a hearty bread. I am not gluten intolerant and should have been made aware that the bread was gluten free. You should give your customers a choice of bread. I was not a fan at all. You also had a choice of sides. We choose the potato salad and cole slaw. Both were just ok for me. The cole slaw was underwhelming and also a small portion. Basically we spent $45 for two sandwiches and left feeling unsatisfied with our meals. This was our first time visiting Jim Thorpe and I expected much more from our dining experience. On the positive side it's a cute restaurant with a cozy interior. I particularly liked the upstairs dining area best. Granted , it was a busy night, during October fest. ...but the hostess was so less than welcoming, ( after waiting in line over an hour, and warned that if I was not within calling distance from her perch at a lecturn, that my table would be given away ... The waitress was initially kind of rude, but picked up that we were not too happy about her after I asked about a glass rather than a bottle of wine...; then she made nice ...ok, She was busy... but we really tried to look past all this, and hoped the reviews were right. .. we got their top priced meal, the rib eye, and we both were very disappointed. The beef was fatty ( not marbled, but fatty, gristly, tough) the waitress tried telling us, "Well It's because it's grass fed from Australia" ... And I've had meat from that region before, but it was not like this ... it was 2 poor quality pieces of beef. The waitress had come before we had even cut into our steaks to ask how it was and we said we don't know yet... And never came back to ask us how it was until we were finished with the dinners and we told her... We weren't satisfied they were Not good cuts of beef ... and we were disappointed . Her answer was, why didn't we tell her sooner? ? We had completed a 25 mile bike jaunt and our stomachs were empty, and we were hungry!!! We waited in line an hour and a half to be totally disappointed. Won't make the same mistake again. ( We had left a nice place after a quick beer to try to get in here after seeing good reviews, and we had eaten at that restaurant the night before... very satisfied, but wanting to try something different) Not much ambiance ... we were in a small room with a loud large party next to us... Our first time at Jim Thorpe and what a charming little town. My other half and I had brunch here twice over the weekend and the food was amazing. For drinks, definitely get the Butterfly lemonade if you like a nice refreshing cocktail that is not too sweet. Also, get the 1911 cider donut hard cider, it was so good! The Pigsah beer was ok just your basic beer. The Bloody Mary had too much garlic in it, so make sure you mention light garlic. For appetizers, we had deviled eggs which was very delicious! but it only came in 3 pieces, i expected more. As for our main entrees we had the BBQ Kentucky sandwich, BLT biscuit, Classic quiche and Bangkok bowl with steak. The BBQ Kentucky was nice and savory with a little spice. You won't go wrong with the BLT biscuit, the bacon was cooked perfectly! Definitely try the classic quiche, i think it was the best quiche I've had! The Bangkok bowl with steak was ok, the stone row samosas that came with it was too spicy for me and my partner, and I love spice. The steak was a tad bit overcooked. Dylan, our server was great and very attentive. We also had the pleasure of meeting the chef on our second visit! Such a wonderful and amazing woman! There is plenty of seating at the restaurant and we were seated by the bay window which was the best seat in the house! Definitely go here for a nice quiet sit down brunch or dinner.
