Their ground beef on wheat empanada with green sauce is so delicious. Their food really is. This spot at least. But the attitude of the staff f***kng stinks. They ought to correct that, it may draw a lot more business in. There's other Mamas Empanadas in Jackson Heights but this particular spot for some reason has the more flavorful ones. Everyone loves empanadas! I usually just make my own but we were in the area and a little hungry so we stopped by Mama's. We made a pretty big order of all different types and were told it would be a 10 minute wait. They make them fresh which is great and even though we ordered so many our order was 100% accurate. My favorite by far are the wheat flour chicken empanadas drizzled with some of their hot sauce. Omg YUM! The empanadas aren't huge in size but they are packed to the brim which is great because I've tried some other places before and was disappointed after biting into them and finding out they were somewhat hollow. They have a great variety available on the menu and no matter which obscure type we selected they were able to make it and had not run out of any ingredients which is also another issue I encountered before at some other empanada spots. I wasn't a huge fan of their other sauces but the hot sauce was good and pretty mild, the green sauce is a little spicier and has a strong green pepper flavor to it, and the pinkish sauce kind of tastes like watered down french dressing mixed with mayo... Pass! but I am not going to down grade their stars based on their sauces. I can just use my own if it's that serious right? The ingredients tasted very fresh. They were served piping hot. Since they don't label the empanadas stamped in their dough they provide separate stamped paper baggies to separate and identify which is which. The meats used were also cooked well and very clean. As I mentioned before my favorite was the chicken and the chicken inside was nice and chunky not processed and minced and it was seasoned well too. The corn flour empanadas are a little smaller with thicker dough and have a slightly harder yet less crunchy shell. The was one flavor I wasn't a huge fan of which was the brocoli and cheese so I probably won't be ordering that one again. Other than that they were all delicious. read more

Literally always the longest wait in the world for your order. There's typically a hard time finding parking no matter what time of the day it is. The empanadas are great. My favorite so far is the chicken fajita. If you're unsure of what to get, and want to play it safe. The beef filling and a flour empanada is a good choice. I wish they had better sauces though. The pink one which I believe is mayoketchup is way too watery. The green sauce is probably the best one but still doesn't have enough flavor for me and the hot sauce isn't that hot. They do get busy sometimes and you do have to wait, and maybe the employees aren't the greatest, but the Empanadas are everything. Reasonably priced and delicious. Okay is it bad of me to only base my review of this place on a pan de bono? They're known for their empanadas but everytime I see somewhere selling a pan de bono I need to try. I'm still looking for the best one in the city... Their pan de bono looked like a flat donut and it wasn't as soft and chewy as I preferred. It tasted a little too salty for my liking. I love this place!! The maduro con queso is my absolute fave!! Just had family visiting from Puerto Rico. I stopped here straight after my airport pickup, family and luggage in the car. I ordered 15 maduro con queso empanadas. When I got home, served them as dessert after a pot of Spanish style chicken soup I had waiting for them. Empanadas were gone in a matter of minutes and there was 6 of us!! They're dusted with sugar to make it even more tastier!! I've had a few different ones from there extensive selection and I gotta say, I haven't been disappointed. They also sell the classics like chicken and beef frozen in bags so you can buy them in bulk and fry them up at a later time for cheaper. As I'm paying for my order I put my phone down in front of the lady and it disappears, I brushed it off and thought I put it in my bag. As I'm waiting for the food my friends search up my location and it says we're in the same spot- I knew my phone was still nearby. As my friends call it about 10 times, and it wasn't ringing, I began to panic- I knew my phone was on loud. After five entire minutes of calling my phone frantically I ask the lady and she just hands me my phone. The volume all the way up she had just been ignoring the calls, as she watched me freaking out about my phone. The caramel in the flour empanada is delicious, it contrasts the salty goodness from the cheese, so it tastes great. Their empanadas are soooo delicious!!! For the savory one, I tried the rice and bean, and the chicken one. When you bite into the corn crusty shell, it is slightly chewy and just so addicting. Go-to comfort food. Was first introduced to Mama's by my boyfriend at the time, who doesn't even live near any Mama's location. Needless to say, my relationship with Mama's outlasted my relationship with him. I love that there is another convenient location near the 74th/Roosevelt subway station. That way, if I'm not feeling super lazy, I can pick up a few on the way home. These things are delicious and sinfully cheap. I always order cheesesteak and the Hawaiian. The green sauce is a must! Delivery is much faster from this location, so if you live close to both locations like I do, call this Mama's when the empanada cravings hit. Minimum for delivery is $10. I live about half a mile away, and it takes around half an hour on a typical day. The fact that this place is open 24 hours also makes it shoot towards the top of my list. It means no matter what time I'm stumbling home, I can get my empanada fix if I want to. read more
