I ordered a shrimp parm sandwich with vodka sauce. They charged me $15 for a dry empty sandwich. I've ordered this many a times and it's NEVER been this poor quality of food. The sandwich is TERRIBLE. I returned to show the manager how my food was prepared. He said that's how the sandwich is made. It comes with 5 shrimps in the sandwich. And if I wanted to add extra shrimp it would be $1.25 per shrimp. 5x1.25=6.25. Is the additional $8.25 for bread & vodka sauce??? They refused to give me my money back. I was told that form of customer service does not exist for them. I can either pay for more shrimp, or accept it as it is. They lost my business over $15. read more

Very disappointed, the guy at the from desk was very direspectfull he treated us like my gf and I dndnt know any English. He played with us saying different price and timing for the orden which was (56$ and 2 hours for a medium size pperoni pizza he said it in English ).immediately his coworker came up speaking Spanish it's gonna be 20$ and 15 min. My previous review was in 2011 and it's now 11 years later. I meant everything I wrote until about 5 or so years ago when things went downhill, at which time we went elsewhere. I recently found out from a neighbor that they are under new ownership and decided to give them a try. We are very pleased ~ they have more menu items than previously. The quality & size of the items is very good. They will custom make anything ~ for example, I ordered a Calzone which includes the usual 2 cheeses (mozzarella and ricotta) and asked for Portobello mushrooms and Spinach. Delicious. We pick up our order, but they do offer local delivery and don't charge for it. I waited to write this review until we had 4 orders... so I'm giving it a thumb up! The service here is HORRIBLE. I order a caprese salad on bread as a sub! I have to explain it 10 times before they even understand me! I must of ordered this same thing 5 or 6 times before and still argue with me about it. They say they can't adjust ONE thing from the menu. How is that a pizzeria when u can't take what u already have and put it on bread? Then they hang up on me when I'm ordering. The food is good but I will not be ordering from here again and will spread this around. I live right around the corner from them and many others here order also. I will have to tell them also. Mama's pizza, Their pies are pretty average, and greasy. But the specialty pizza's (buffalo chicken, vegetarian, bacon and chicken etc etc) are good. Almost like a NY pizza, ON A GOOD DAY. The consistency of mama's is terrible. One day I'll get a large slice, a lot of chicken, next day small slice less chicken but same price. Then the whole minimum of 6 garlic knots ordeal, when one of their garlic knots equals to about 2. I never need 6, but I understand It's just a way to nickel and dime. Then I'm charged for the marinara. It's really not that serious, but the pizza is good and it's close by so convenience wins. read more

I used to go here when Mama ran the place and the Penne a la vodka was a family favorite. I wasn't a fan of her pizza though. Under new ownership, I was happy to find out that the Penne a la vodka was actually better than before...out of curiosity, I tried their slice and loved it. Growing up in Roselle in the 90's, if you were on a sports team, (basketball or soccer especially) at the end of the year your coach would always bring you to the now defunct Franks Pizza. It was quite a nice nostalgic trip for those from the area who remember. I don't know what happened to Frank, a lot of rumors fly, yada yada. I know they were husband and wife, and whatever happened with them its obviously between them and in the past. Flash forward to the late 90's and Mama's Pizza opened shop and is my favorite go-to place for pizza AND fine Italian cuisine in general. I have tried various menu items throughout the years and they are without a doubt the best pizza/Italian cuisine restaurant in Roselle, possibly Union County. No matter what you decide to try on Mama's varied menu, you will not be disappointed. Someone in a previous post mentioned the buffalo chicken pizza being the best in the area. I cannot agree more. Most places are lazy with it and just have a cheese base with drizzles of ranch and buffalo sauce on top of microwaved chicken. Not Mama! Ranch and cheese base with marinated buffalo chicken on top that is to die for! The gourmet pizza is where Mama really shines. Tortellini topped pizza, spinach pizza, and the scrumptious ziti pizza are all absolutely brilliant. Other great menu items include the great Stromboli/Rolls, my personal favorite being the chicken parm roll which is my favorite Mama creation. Also, make sure to pay attention to the board as you walk in as Mama has some unique sandwich specials at times. As I mentioned before, Mama's is more than just a great pizza place, she has some wonderful entrees as well. Usually, I yield when it comes to pizza places and what they call entrees. Mama's is not one of those places. I have tried all kinds of pastas, chicken, and seafood dishes here and they are as good, if not better, than some of the food you will get at a high class Italian restaurant. Mama's unique spin on Chicken Florentine called Chicken Florentina is a mouth watering masterpiece of pure culinary genius that I look forward to with an open mouth when I want an entree. All in all, Mama's is the best pizza destination in Roselle hands down. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of everything this great place has to offer. If I had to say anything negative it would have to be that they don't offer delivery at all. Not a huge knock by any means, but it would make it a tad more convenient when ordering multiple dinner and pizza items. I have been going to Mama's since it opened in the 90's and I cannot stress enough how great this place is. If you want quality in Roselle, this is the cream of the proverbial crop. read more

According to my cousin, this place has always been in the neighborhood since he was a kid, except it used to be called Frank's Pizza. I guess Frank got a divorce and left "mama" behind to do the dirty work. Too bad, because mama said, "Knock you out!" It knocks out any Jersey City (The Heights) pizza I've had so far. It knocks out all Luigi's pizzas I've had in the city. It knocks out Bleecker Street Pizza and Joe's in the Village to date. We had a large mushroom and a large plain pie. I mean this should be an average pie, but instead Mama's pizza sauce had a hint of old world sweetness and the cheese was baked just right. The cheese had great texture and it married the sauce and crust with much aplomb. They made the crust with particular care. It was soft, but it wasn't burnt, nor was it smoky or crispy.. It's what I always imagined a New York pizza to be...but in New Jersey? Great food should know no boundaries. It's not the best in the world. I know places like Grimaldi's are still in another league, but hey, it's 3.5 stars in reality, but I can sleep well Yelping 4 stars in my book. read more

OK,,,,,,,,,,here we go. Been buying pizza from this place for approx. 15-years. The owner (Mama) retired last year. During the 15-years the pizza was just adequate. Nothing great or super, just adequate. Anyway, I had not bought pizza from here since Mama retired. Recently I decided to try the pizza under the new management just to see if the pizza had gotten better. Ordered a large thin crust pie via phone. Picked it up and noticed that it felt kinda heavy in the box. Got home 10-minutes later, opened the box and discovered that it was a 'thick crust' margarita pizza with hunks of chicken. This bothered me to no end. Immediately took it back, the guy offered a half-hearted apology and exchanged it for the right pizza. I grabbed the pie and walked out. Got home, opened the box and observed a pizza that appeared to be poorly made. The cheese-to-tomato ratio was way way way off. I'll say this, if you like ketchup with gluey cheese on top of half-baked dough, then you would like this pizza. The cheese was so thick, I hardly noticed the tomato/ketchup underneath. I just hope they had an off night. Maybe I'll go back or, just cut my losses while I'm ahead. Sure do miss Mama. She was a nice lady. read more

Pizzas are out to see and you pick them right there and then and are thrown in the oven and prepped within minutes. Never had an issue with the food. My fiancé and I were looking at a house nearby and we were famished. I went on yelp and found the nearest restaurant and Mama's Pizza was it! Thank you Yelpers for sending me here and I'm doing my duty to inform others. I've had all types of pizza in NYC and Italy. Until Mama's, my favorite pizza was from Tomato Pie (south NJ). We ordered 2 slices - tortellini and philly cheesesteak. I can't say enough about how many ppl we have told everyone about his place because it was that DELICIOUS!!!!! Its a thicker slice and crust, but your plate will be cleaned off! If you're in the area and you like pizza, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a Mama's Gourmet Pizza! read more

Not the best but definitely not worst pizza. I think you could do far worse than Mama's for a slice of pizza. The veggie pizza is pretty good as is the white pizza. I just tried the buffalo chicken and hawaiian slices as well and I was happy with both of them. Mama doesn't have the warmest personality either but she does have decent pizza. read more

The place isn't bad. I work in the area and wanted a few different slices. My only problem is the same types of slices from a place down the road too here is $4 more for 3 slices instead of 4 I would normally get. The bread isnt bad but the sauce lacks flavor as well. They do have alot of window selection but the overpricing turns me off read more

Last there Oct 6, 2018 after many years away. Large pie reasonably priced at $12.50 Topping at $2.75 seems a bit high but maybe I'm a bit out of touch on pricing. Pizza was excellent. I got a large pepperoni pie. The weight and health conscious will likely want to blot the top for some grease removal but I gobbled it down as is and really enjoyed it.
