Chicken Shawarma Plate and side of falafel

Delicious and fast Greek food that's conveniently local for me! Great spot to stop for lunch with a lot of options. You can never go wrong with one of the shawarma plates - large portions and quite delicious. Easy order at the counter and seating indoor and out.

It was our first time in that restaurant. It is clean and nice ambiance, service is good and quick and people are very welcoming. Food was not bad, I liked the chicken seasoning and it was juicy. But the bread was bad. I believe it is like a pita bread, which i have never seen before been used for Shawarma wraps. Usually places and even at home we use lavash. The moment we opened our shawarma it started to fall appart and made it very messy and uncomfortable to eat. And we ate in the restaurant, so it is not like pita got soggy and fell apart, we ate our food after it was just made. If they change pita to lavish it will be way better food. Overall, it is pretty good.

I brought my son and his friend here after seeing a picture of the Dubai chocolate bar on their door. The inside was pretty underwhelming--felt more like a cafeteria than a café. Nothing special atmosphere-wise. Unfortunately, the staff wasn't very friendly or helpful when we had questions about the menu, so we decided not to eat there. But I had promised the boys the Dubai chocolate bar, so we ordered one to-go. I was shocked when they rang me up--$24.77 for a single chocolate bar! When we tried it, all three of us thought it was terrible. None of us could even finish it. It also came unwrapped in a plain bag, which felt sketchy--no visible brand, no expiration date. Honestly, skip this place. Trader Joe's sells like the same Dubai dark chocolate bar for $1.99--and at least there, it comes sealed.

Looking for a fast informal meal with friends (preferably with outdoor seating on a warm summer evening). Mama's Hummus fit the bill. Lots of free parking in the lot in front of the restaurant. First time there so we had lots of questions about the menu. Kimberly, working the counter, was incredibly welcoming and helpful. I went with the chicken shawarma plate ($18) and my wife went with the chicken kabob plate ($19). The chicken shawarma plate came with a large portion of chicken shawarma over white rice, a generous portion of hummus, a salad, garlic aioli, pickled onions, and some very spicy peppers. Everything was delish (except the spicy peppers which were not suitable for a gringo palate). The chicken kabob plate was essentially the same except it had juicy chicken kabob instead of shawarma (the better of the two dishes). Can't wait to come back to try some other menu items.

The food portion is very small and price is really high for the amount of food you get. Chicken plate is 19.99 and has a lot of rice underneath the chicken. You put your plates away by yourself so can't say there is a lot of service. The restaurant is just like a deli.

Up in Camarillo for some business and I was early and also hungry, so I popped on Yelp to find something to satiate my hunger pangs and to fulfill a recent craving for Mediteranean food. Mama's Hummus popped up and I was in the next parking lot over, so it was a match made in Heaven. Well, a match made in Yelp... The menu was on a large set of screens above the order counter and kitchen, so you had to stand there and figure out what you wanted. It would not be bad if it was like In-N-Out and there were 5 choices, but this was an extensive display of plates and sandwiches and bowls. OH MY! While I was trying to decipher the choices, a gentleman kept asking if I was ready to order and I had to respond, "getting there" several times. At this point I would have preferred a printed menu and taken a drink to a table to go over what I wanted to have for lunch. I wanted hummus, I wanted kafta, I wanted falafel, I wanted some Greek like salad. Maybe I wanted chicken shwarma, maybe lamb kabob? Crap, I wanted the whole menu! The guy behind the counter was kinda patient, but relentless on asking me if I was ready. I had at least four other people order in front of me since I was not ready. Fast forward 3 hours (ha, ha!) and I think I was ready to order and here it is: Beef Kafta Kabob Plate: Skewer of ground beef kneaded with chopped parsley, onions and spices, served with hummus, Mama's Salad, pickles, chili peppers, rice, and pita bread. Of course, along with me taking forever, I needed to be high maintenance and asked to substitute fries for the rice and said I would pay extra if needed. The guy taking my order (not the guy who asked to take my order 23 times, he had given up and walked away) said that it would be an extra charge for the fries even though I had said that was OK. The original order pressure guy, who I assume is owner or manager, butted in and said there would be no charge for the fries substitute. I think he just wanted me to move on! There was a steady flow of people coming in to order, to pick up pre-orders or GrubHub types picking up food for their clients. Not many people were staying to eat. It took a bit of time to get my order, since they were pretty busy with all of the orders. That was fine, I had plenty of time and had some work to do. I was happy to see them so busy, not only for their finanicial stablity, but because it seemed like A LOT of people liked this place. Good for Mama's! My name was called and I picked up my meal at the counter. Initial reaction was that it looked and smelled great. I was happy already and I had not tried a single thing on the plate. For starters I tried the pita and hummus. Fresh warm pita was used to scoop up the smooth, creamy hummus. Hummus is one of my favorite foods and Mama's Hummus nailed it. Very good. Go get it. Now, go now! On to the salad which was fresh, cold, crisp and not overwhelmed by dressing. A good follow up to the delicious hummus. The beef kafta kabobs were nicely cooked with a decent crust on the outside, but the inside was moist and a wonderful blend of spices. Yum. I really liked it. The rest of my meal was combos of the kafta, hummus, grilled jalapenos and salad, all piled on to the awesome pita. If I find myself in the area, I will go and try other entree such as the chicken shwarma or the tri-tip. The tri-tip is cooked on a vertical rotisserie similar to how gyro meat is cooked. I wish I had taken a picture of that. Looked like something I would like. Maybe you should try it. Maybe you should! Go. Eat Well. HAVE FUN!

Some of the best shawarma I have ever had. I ordered the tri tip and my wife had the chicken. Both were cooked to utter perfection. Hummus was spot on as well. Best kept secret? The garlic sauce! Only knock was the pita was very stale.

Sporadic hours, closed when sign in window indicates that the restaurant should be open. Increasing prices with shrinking portions of food. Not what it used to be. A complete waste of time. We've been customers since it opened. Will be going elsewhere. read more

I am appalled be the lack of service today for lunch! I have been in many times & the food is always and the service! But today, the one who took my order was rude ! The falafel salad was ridiculous with spice! I took one bite and brought it back up to the employee and he would not change my order! He said I will just give your money back. I asked him for just a plain salad and humus & he would not take my order! I just went back to teaching today & was so hungry! I will never come back & I use to be a regular customer. Rude and poor customer service! read more

My wife and I are weekly regulars. Their food is outstanding and service is always great. We think the prices are more than fair because the food is so darn good. Filet mignon plate is my favorite, and the chicken shawarma or kabobs are my wife's. Did I mention the baklava is bomb too? So grateful they moved to Camarillo! read more

This place is so delicious!! My family loves Mediterranean food!! We took my parents who were visiting and we had a party of 7, plenty of tables to fit all of us. The service was quick! We had shawarmas, chicken plates, dolmas and the Greek salad. The meat on all plates were so delicious flavored to perfection. The salads were very fresh with Homemade dressings! The dolmas were fresh and very tasty! My kids loved the warm and fresh pita bread. The hummus was super smooth and delicious. Definitely will be back often!! read more

This place was terrible. The chicken wasn't even cooked all the way on 3 of our plates. The filet pieces tasted like the lamb pieces. The rice was sour. It was gross, gross, gross. Terrible first experience. Update: I want to mention that after my original post went up, the owner contacted me right away. I stand by my review about the food, I was extremely impressed with how quickly he reached out and how hard to tried to make our experience better. Not all places are willing to admit that perhaps our order just slipped through the quality crack. He was nice, respectful and professional. Kuddos to him. Changing my stars from 1 to 3. read more

I've been enjoying the excellent cuisine at Mama's Hummus for a few years now...in the past year at the Camarillo location...I'm a regular customer--2x per week--top notch middle eastern food...by far the BEST in the area. My favorites...baba ganoush (fresh eggplant, smoky flavor, perfect amount of garlic), hummus,chicken shawerma, all of the kabobs (I have chicken kabob and kafta beef most often), kibeh, and always freshly baked desserts. Naji, the owner, is extremely customer focused...he was very accommodating in catering my holiday party for 40 pple...everyone was raving about the food. I just noticed a recent review of a customer who claims to have gotten sick here...all that I can say is...I've eaten here ~100 times and never had an issue! Another fantastic experience with Mamas Hummus..this time was for a large party that I hosted at my home..70 people. Naji (the owner) created an excellent assortment of food..kafta and chicken kabobs, dips, etc..everyone raved about the food! read more

If you like Greek food like I like Greek food, this is the place to go for hot, fresh Greek food. We tried the chicken shawarma wrap, the baba ghanoush, the hummus, some kibbe and a Greek salad and can I tell you how good it all was?? The staff are so nice and welcoming, the space is well-lit and clean, and the food is some of the best I've eaten. Do your tummy a solid and head out to Mama's Hummus and I promise you'll thank yourself when the meal is over. read more

in conclusion: fast food quality with a home cooked wait time; not impressed. I didn't really have expectations, just hoped the food would be quality. It wasn't exactly expensive, but the portions for the cost and time spent waiting is a strong reason I gave this spot 2 stars. The workers were all very polite and happy to help. They even fielded questions for those who weren't too familiar with the menu. But no amount of hospitality can make up for quality of food and the wait time. glad I tried it out but I won't ever go back. read more

This place is $$$ for what you get! And it's really not that great as far as taste. I order two kabob skews one chicken and one ground beef and my total came to $18.30 for al la carte. Wow!!!! If you really want great tasting kabobs make the drive to Woodland Hills and visit BIBI SARA. Price is fair and the food is delicious! read more

The very best hummus ever! Their chicken and tri-tip shawermas are fabulous too... almost as good as in the Middle East. The lentil soup is my lunch time favorite. All the people who work there are super friendly and if you are lucky the owner will give you a sample of their melt-in-your-mouth baklava! We wish they'd open a store in Santa Barbara. read more

Good solid Mediterranean food at reasonable prices. The owner is friendly and the staff works hard. Small, family-owned restaurant. Two locations, I've tried both and the menus, portions and prices are about the same. I would recommend either location. Try the complimentary mint tea. read more

My husband and I moved to the area about a year ago and have since eaten here at least once every couple of weeks. We are always impressed, full, and happy! Friendly service! The woman behind the counter will not give you what you order. Twice now I have ordered chicken shawarma and have gotten a wrap instead. They are not the same. The shawarma wrap has thicker bread the wrap is thin missing sauce. Guys I expect to get what I order and not argue with the your cashier about it. read more

I love their tri tip schwerma! The spicy garlic fries are awesome as well. I have had most things on the menu and can say I have never been unsatisfied. I am not a fan of dolma so I haven't tried it here. You will not be disappointed with any choice you make. The customer service is always on point and there is never that long of a wait for your order. The dining area is clean and spacious. read more

Pretty solid falafel sandwiches at a good price. They have a couple large TVs in the store. Kind of a weird little shopping area with mostly chain style restaurants. I was glad I chose Mama's Hummus over the other options. read more

Here now and the girl at the front counter was very helpful and nice! I let her know what I was trying to look for and she was attentive. I've never been a big Mediterranean food fan, however I've tried Sam's Fire Grill and it had me hooked! So I'm giving this a try! It's across the street from where I live and I hope it's as delicious. Once I get my food there will be an update. But the atmosphere is comfy divey even for a Mediterranean place... updated decor. Just finished eating and yuuum! I had the chicken shawrama? plate and everything was cooked perfectly. Very filling. And I mean filling!! Lunch for tomorrow! :)) Generous portion of rice and hummus mixed well with a fresh salad and warm pita bread! Will come back again! Only dowfall is it is a bit pricy. read more

I've been their customer in Newbury park and I am very happy to have them closer to my home in Camarillo. Excellent service, authentic the shawarma the kabob,all the plate I tried with my family were more then we expected. I see a review that it does bother me as a good customer how people can take advantage of yelp to try to ruin such good hard worker people reputation by lying probably for couple free plates or to advertise a friends business. We eat here at least 3 times a week and never had any problem with food or customer service. read more

Camarillo's vegan options are lacking. Luckily, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon Mama's Hummus tonight. Kate was extremely helpful in telling us our options, and was patient with us. We tried the hummus with pita bread, dolmas, a falafel wrap, and spicy garlic fries. The hummus was the best I've had, the pita was warm, the dolmas were fantastic, and if I had to choose one item to have again, it would be the falafel wrap. It was well-balanced, the texture was lovely, and the flavor a were spot-on. Make sure to add the onions! My boyfriend loves the spicy garlic fries, but they were a little strong for my taste. We are so happy to have found a new spot, and will definitely be back! read more

We ordered ahead and got chicken shawarma and chicken kebab. The food was ready when we arrived around 15 min later. They have excellent hummus and the rest of the plates were good as well. The dinner plates come with pita bread. read more

Today, after a few months of renovations, they've opened a Mediterranean grill in the new expanded area. The menu is what you'd expect from a Mediterranean grill. I tried the chicken shawarma plate and lamb shawarma plate. The garlic sauce, hummus, and pickles were all fantastic. The french fries had a tasty seasoning on them, but I wish they offered ketchup with them. The lamb and chicken shawarma were quite flavorful, albeit a bit dryer than I would've liked. The portions were enormous for the price, and they didn't skimp on the protein at all. Since this is only their first day of service, I think there is room for improvement, but I'm really excited to try the rest of the menu -- especially the breakfast burritos, wraps, and falafel. They even have a 1/2 lb cheeseburger on the menu! I'll be back soon

The dishwasher looked confused why we were the ONLY table in the whole entire place not being helped. The young boy who sat us, looked confused. We got up and left. The blonde server and the dark hair rude old lady , STILL didn't say a word when we walked past them to leave. Rest assured, they ran to where we sat to see what we left. Weird they all knew where the table was when we weren't sitting there. This crap of a service can stay hidden. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!! I have NEVER been treated this way. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant after I have sat down. We have never felt so uncomfortable, and unwelcomed in a restaurant. So thank you, hidden cafe for the most unexpected, rudest experience of our vacation.

I usually go to the Newbury Park location but I was in Camarillo and decided to stop by. Mama's Hummus never disappoints! The food is beyond delicious and the service is excellent! I love how many vegetarian and vegan food choices they have; as a vegetarian I can always switch it up! My meat- eating friends rave about the delicious kabobs and shawarma, and the falafel is always made to perfection. Both locations are fabulous, welcoming, and consistent.
