Mama must not have been in today. This is traditionally our favorite place to stop after a day on the lake. Today, although the burgers and onion rings were delicious, the place seemed much dirtier than usual, and the server was not too attentive or efficient. Next time we'll try another place in Somerville. read more

Our order was quickly taken, yet our food took at least 30 minutes to come out. Our coffee was too light. We ended up asking them to be replaced with fountain drinks. We ordered the pork chops and country fried steak. Chops were undercooked, yet outside grilled. Something was off with them. Chicken fried steak had minimal taste. It was the gravy that helped it taste better. My over easy eggs were split open when I received them. But, the hash browns and toast were good. read more

We stopped here while camping at a local state park. Husband ordered the special shrimp po-boy with fries, I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were bland, although mine did have a good rye flavor to the bread. We were never offered refills although when we left they did offer us a to-go cup. Locals were treated very well. read more

Wow! So back in September we had the worst experience ever but since we have been coming to Mama's for years we thought we would give it another try. This was like night and day. The waitresses were friendly. The brought our cold, crisp and fresh salads out right away. Our chicken fried steak and all-u-can-eat catfish and the sides were served super hot and fresh. I came here based on overall stars. Had I read the recent reviews I would have probably gone somewhere else First the positives. The food and service were good. I had pancakes, my wife had SOS. The pancakes were nice and fluffy. I saw another diner with a chicken fried steak that looked really good. So breakfast seems to be a strong point here. Now the negatives. I find it surprising that any restaurant still has a smoking section. This was the biggest problem. It was very noticeable, even though we sat as far away as possible. I just can't see any restaurant with adjoining smoking and non smoking sections in this day and age. I probably would have rated it a four except for this Also, is it too much to ask for real cream, half and half or even just plain milk instead of powdered non dairy creamer? Also, I would like the option of nuts or fruit for my pancakes. read more

If I could have given half a star I would have. This place is horrible! The food arrived burnt and was inedible, Mama herself took our plate away and had the nerve to try and charge us for a larger portion! Who does that??? What owner in their right mind would tell you that the food you were served is crap...take the plate away and let the cashier charge you full price???? Then when we challenged the charge the cashier went to go ask Mama in her office and she had the nerve to tell her to charge us 50% for food that was inedible! Don't go there this woman has no business being in business or how to run one except to run it in the ground! read more

DH and I ate here for the first time on a Saturday morning. The reviews had us interested and finding good places for breakfast in this area is hard. The environment is country rustic, clean and comfortable. Plenty sitting was available. Smoking is allowed in a separate area. We could smell it slightly in our non-smoking area but we are extra sensitive. The waitresses are helpful, friendly and attentive. We ordered pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage. The two pancakes per plate were the size of platters omg! I barely ate half of one and DH only ate one of his two lol. He preferred the bacon over the sausage. The pancakes had a wonderful flavor too. He bragged how great the orange juice tasted. I had apple juice. Our bill was $19 which was reasonable for the amount of food for two. We want to come back and try lunch or dinner soon. I gave four stars and not five because they are not smoke free. read more

I've been eating and ordering from Mama's for a while now and never really had any issues until last night. Ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers and macaroni and cheese as the side. The buns they usually use are a sourdough but last night they were some cheap burger buns that fell apart. The burger was dry and the macaroni and cheese was disgusting! I took one bite and then fed the rest to my chickens. Not sure what's going on but I hope this doesn't happen again as Somerville is EXTREMELY LIMITED on food options! read more

My girlfriend and I stopped in a on Saturday after spending a day at a&M. What a great surprise. First, our server was awesome. He really worked his tail off . Very nice and personable. I wish I got his name but I know he plays basketball. My girlfriend works for the spurs and he was excited about that. Second, the food was great. The chicken fried steak was huge and good. The cheeseburger I had was delicious. The Mississippi mud pie was great. I am from California and I wish my state had places like this. Good down home cooking. I strongly recommend this place. Great home cooked all you can eat buffet with drink and dessert for 7.99 plus tax! Today a choice of stroganoff or fried chicken. Vegetables on the buffet: greens, potatoes, pinto beans, corn, green beans. Dessert was banana pudding. Everything tasted delicious! read more

Sad. The waiter didn't bring our water. My vegetable side was missing. The food looked good, & good portions for the price. But my requested well done steak tips were not. Some were medium well, some medium rare. I called the cook out for a teaching moment (I used to manage a restaurant). Along with insisting he's been cooking 20 yrs, he admitted only the meat was "medium". The waiter tried to get the cashier to comp the steak dinner. He argued with the waiter! And my wife just paid for the whole meal just to get us out of there. Overall this turned the experience into a negative one for me as I do not eat raw meat. read more

EXCELLENT! One of the best breakfast ever, all home made from scratch, or at least it tasted like it, and the service from the staff was awesome. They kept coffee and drinks full, checked on us several time during meal. My son's pancake was awesome, he finished the whole thing (huge). The bacon was fried perfectly, not too crisp, not under cooked, the sausage was what I would call as home style, not the thin tasteless (McDonald's style), eggs cooked perfectly and the potatoes, both the hash browns and home-style... not frozen, but cut from hand and fired... By far the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. I had grilled cheese with ham, I think they dipped the whole sandwich in the fryer. Other family members got seafood platter, total mess... All fried, no seasoning, and half burnt. Burgers not great either. Before I start on the review of this country diner, I gotta get something off my chest. If you don't like smoking in a diner stay the hell out of here. I'm glad to see an old "greasy spoon" in a small country town not conform to the yuppy libtard ways. So if smoking offends or bothers you, take your butt down the road to IHOP, DENNYS or WAFFLE HOUSE for a smoke-free crappy meal. Wife and I have been twice while up there doing some fishing. Went in and we both had the chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast. Stuff was really good, no bitching here from either of us, now we measure all other places we go to get breakfast at by the breakfast we had here at Mama's.
