    Jerk Chicken Dinner

Found this little gem by accident. I was looking for a Jamaican restaurant on Pleasant Hill Road and then came across this. The food was amazing, bursting with flavors of the tropics and enough heat to make your nose run. We tried the jerk chicken, pork, and wings. It all came with a stir fried cabbage that was delicious and peas and rice with an incredible sauce poured on it. Of course a couple of plantains too. The service was great, the guy who helped us was so personable and gave recommendations and even had us try the hibiscus drink they make. You can tell a place is quality when everyone that comes in knows them. It looked like the local hangout. Prices are extremely reasonable and portions are huge. Can't wait to go back and try the goat curry!

This spot is great for Jamaican food! I had several questions and the cashier man took the time to explain what the different foods and options were. Ordered: 1 small goat curry plate Substitute rice with cooked vegetables +$ 1 order of 6 fried plantains The curry was delicious, goat cooked til tender. Veggies cooked well and everything was delicious. Will return when I'm back in the area!

If you want great tasting home-cooked food, you've got to try this hidden gem. I asked what they would recommend and the lady taking my order gave great recommendations. I had the brown stewed chicken (lunch special size) and wow, was it good. I LOVED the steamed cabbage. The rice and peas (beans) were tasty. I had no problem eating this off the bone because the meat just fell off. I devoured my lunch. I had a jerk pork (I think) pastry pocket thing (patty). It was decent. The ends were a little plain because the filling was in the middle, but that happens when you get something hand made. It was just a tiny bit spicy in a very good way. I will try a different one next time. The homemade lemonade was very good. For the money, this place is impressive. It's a great value for the price.

I'm not sure if it's fair that I have a baseline for specialty restaurants. It's imperative to have these accompaniments before we can truly critique the rest. Mexican restaurants must have good salsa Burger joints must have good fries Jamaican restaurants must have good peas and rice. The peas and rice from Mama's were bland and unappetizing . I really enjoyed the jerk chicken but couldn't get past the peas and rice. Hubby rated his curry goat 3/5. Next time we're in greater Atlanta, we will try one of the many other Caribbean offerings.

Throwback Thursday nights. I had such an amazing time. Shouts out to the bartender and the DJ's that kept the night exciting with 90s vibed reggae, soca, hip hop, and house music. The kitchen was opened late for this special event night.

Well we r staying at LA Quinta next door and saw this on Yelp so here we are!! I opted of course for the Oxtails!! And the Bf is curried goat today! Two Modelo's for the boy and an Island Mango drink for me. After my favorite ox tail lunch my drink was perfectly sweet to counteract the salt and spice ! I tried his goat and I'm not a fan of curry but THAT I could eat (some). It was spicier than mine. The hot sauce was on the table and it was a Jamaican kind. Sort of smells like tobasco but much more flavor...yummy on my rice. Well guess we will walk back home ( haha).

Spice It Up does not play! Everything I ordered was so good…read more The Oxtail Dinner and Curry Goat are my favorites. If you've tried different West Indian/Caribbean restaurants, you know that both of those dishes can go very wrong if they don't know what they're doing. The serving of oxtail wasn't stingy at all and they gave plenty of gravy. The Curry Goat plate was great. I usually eat curry with white rice, but this time I got it with rice and peas. Very glad I did, because it went together perfectly. Their Mac and cheese is good - not the best I've had but a solid side. The plantain was fried perfectly too. Spice It Up is a great option if you're looking for a Caribbean food fix and you can't get homemade.

I visited this restaurant today after my daughter recommended it. She had brought me food from here…read morebefore, and it was all right, so I decided to return and try the oxtail meal because my son had been asking for oxtails and I had not made them at home in a while. The location is not close to us, so we drove a considerable distance to get there. When we entered, a gentleman greeted us. Because the menu listed the oxtails at "market price," I asked him how much the meal cost, and he quoted one price. Shortly afterward, a woman came over and told me that was not the correct price and gave me a higher price. I honestly should have followed my first instinct and left, but my son was hungry and we had already made the drive, so we decided to place an order. The woman allowed us to sample some of the food, and based on the sauce, it seemed acceptable. However, I was surprised to learn that an oxtail meal costing more than $30 only included the meat, rice and peas, and one additional side. Any other side was an extra charge. Most Jamaican restaurants I have visited include rice, meat, and two sides, especially at that price point. The container was also quite small for the amount being charged. After adding a beef patty and a drink for my son, the total came to more than $40. Unfortunately, the taste and portion size did not justify the price. I have had much better oxtails from another nearby restaurant that provides a larger portion and two sides for a better value. What disappointed me most was the customer service. The woman's attitude and demeanor changed when I asked questions about the pricing, portions, and sides. As a paying customer, I should be able to ask reasonable questions without being made to feel rushed or as though I am causing a problem. My overall rating would be approximately 4 or 5 out of 10 for the food, 0 out of 10 for customer service, and 2 out of 10 for the atmosphere. I was truly hoping to find a good, authentic Jamaican restaurant for the days when I do not have time to prepare Jamaican food myself, but unfortunately, this experience did not meet my expectations.

Ovations Caribbean Grill has got a solid line up of menu items…read more We had the: - Jerk Chicken (with rice and peas [stew chicken cravy], cabage, and plantains) - Curry Chicken - Jerk Pork - Jerk Ribs - Oxtail Mac n cheese - Veggie Patty From top to bottom: The Jerk Chicken is tender. Make sure you get extra Jerk Sauce though! The seasoning is decent and there's a low level of spice to it. I recommend mixing it in with a bit of rice for a bite (maybe a bit of juice from the jerk ribs as well). The rice and peas are fine, but the stew chicken gravy is the star of the show. I'd get extra stew gravy on top next time I come. The cabbage is nothing to write home about, but its good fiber and doesn't clash with the other flavors of the plate. The plantain was fine as well, nice and sweet and best eaten when you first get your plate. The curry chicken is tasty! (Tender aswell) It almost falls apart in your mouth and has a decent moisture to it from the curry. Its good by itself, with the rice, or eaten with some coco bread. The jerk pork is fatty and has a good jerk seasoning flavor (not spicy at all). Its probably the most tender meat they have and its good even after being reheated a short time. The jerk ribs were my favorite! The ribs come off the bone easy and the sauce that comes on them is the best jerk sauce in the restaurant. I definitely recommend trying them if you like jerk or pork. (For a fuller, spicy note of flavor, get the hot jerk sauce to dip or pour on the ribs.) The Oxtail Mac N Cheese is okay, but its nothing too special. There's less cheese in the equation than a typical American Mac N Cheese, but the Oxtail is pretty good. Fatty, soft to chew, and almost buttery, I appreciate the influence, but I'd prefer a cheesier and saltier version of this dish. The Veggie Patty was great! I think the patties are homemade as I've never had such a good vegetable patty. I'd come back for the patties alone! The coco bread we got sat for a bit so it wasn't as soft, but I suspect thay was my fault. TLDR; I definitely recommend this restaurant! Its a 4 to 4.5/5 considering what Jamaican food in Georgia typically tastes like. We had leftovers that were good the next day! Get a jerk pork, a patty, some jerk Chicken, and make sure you get extra jerk sauce and extra gravy for your rice.

I remembered that one of my cousins had brought me here before for food, so I was expecting a decent experience. Unfortunately, today's visit was absolutely disappointing. I placed an order for oxtails, but they were out of mac & cheese, collard greens, and cabbage. The employee also mentioned they only had one dumpling left. What I don't understand is how a restaurant can be out of multiple sides that are supposed to come with the meal, yet still charge full price. The meal alone was $35. My son wanted additional items, so I still ordered food for him, but because the side options were so limited, I decided not to order anything for myself. In total, I ended up spending around $45, and the whole experience was just very disappointing. I really could've just bought the ingredients and made the meal myself, but I've been busy working in the house and handling a few projects, and before I realized it, the day had already gotten late. That's the main reason I decided to stop and buy food instead. Honestly, I guarantee I wouldn't have spent nearly as much making the meal myself as I ended up spending purchasing it there. To make matters worse, the employee serving us came across very nonchalant and unconcerned, which only added to the frustration. Overall, this is not a place I see myself visiting again anytime soon, if ever.
