    Cleopatra Wrap
    Aya R.

Dining method: Catering Item(s) ordered: I ate the Cleopatra wrap, but we ordered several others. The review: The cleopatra wrap was brimming with tabouli (tabbouleh?) and flavor. For a vegan option, it proved very filling and flavorful. That being said, the falafel was very dry and, in the middle of a work meeting, that might not be the best to have in your throat. The catering arrived slightly late into the meeting, so I would just make sure they know if there's a hard deadline. Wonderful service. Everyone enjoyed a variety of the other wraps and sandwiches with meat, and said they were very good. I would totally go back to see what the actual restaurant looks like, and would love to try one of the Greek wraps next!

I tried their turkey burger with "cranberry mayo" and they slapped canned cranberry sauce with some mayo mixed in. What a disappointment. I talked to an employee and they did nothing to remedy this issue.

    Chicken Gyro Basket!

I came in for a late lunch and was glad I did! I read reviews online and I had to try. I ordered the Chicken Gyro Basket which I seen was mentioned a lot. It was so good! To start the gyro tasted great. The tzatziki sauce was so good. The addition of the tasty homemade french fries made this a very filling meal! I highly recommend giving the Chicken Gyro Basket a try! I look forward to returning and trying more!

Lentil soup (bowl) - 3 stars (Friday night 2013-12-13)

Things go keep in mind: - No tables here! Not a big issue but not exactly the best place for 5 people to catch up. There's a row of seats along the counter at the window (maybe 10 total). Much more of a pick-up to-go place. - Saw tons of cops come here to grab dinner. My friend made a good point that any restaurant where you see a lot of cops or EMT workers means it's definitely a great local spot - they will know the neighborhood better than just about anyone. - We could all tell a lot of the desserts were Costco-bought, being big Costco fans ourselves. (Recognized the brownies, saw the packaged cookies on the shelf, and the chocolate cake definitely tasted familiar) I feel like I can't really give a rating on these items since they don't make them in-house. Can't comment on the cheesecake & baklava, maybe they make those. Cost: $11.75 for a wrap & curly fries. Very inexpensive, very quick, & lots of options. Must-haves: Fresh Fish & Chips, Mac & Cheese bites, Spicy Curly fries (if you don't mind that it's not too spicy). Menu: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#7C7vHK1vwtoVfS5S8V001g GREEK CUISINE * Gyro Sandwich, Beef ($6.95) - 3.5 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#DmHjAOrHqq4gIodI3wI72A cross-section: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#PyUDn76Hqz-ypZ0onrJq_Q The bread is pretty thick and soft, but could have been just a little more toasted. The meat was good but I would have loved even more sauce to bring everything together! The ingredients weren't distributed the best - a layer of meat, a layer of shredded lettuce, a couple slices of tomato, and sauce drizzled on top. SOUPS * Lentil soup ($3.95 for a bowl) - 3 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw Interesting that they gave those small crackers that normally come with clam chowder. The soup was pretty thick, lots of good texture from the lentil, but it was really bland in flavor. SIDE ORDERS * Spicy Curly Fries ($3.75) - 3.5 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#eDFRF0b9kWT0caIKnm0aAg Absolutely perfect texture. An evenly slightly thick layer of flaky crisp. You bite through it to a warm soft inner part. Just perfectly thick. I just wish these were more spicy! Definitely could've used more flavor. You do get a giant serving. * Mac & Cheese Bites ($4.95) - 4 stars pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#UPcasjjpqu0EgTEi5Vwzuw cross-section: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#Sk8ZmZ_uiCDwPTGdZNJg1g You get a smaller serving, but this was really great. Triangles of mac & cheese (creamy, soft, fantastic), surrounded in a thick perfectly crisped layer of batter. The cocktail sauce went great with this. FISH & SHRIMP * Fresh Fish & Chips - 4 stars (w/ fries, coleslaw, & homemade tartar sauce. $9.25) pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#j_3kEFwPl0f9E_QCWUER1A Wow, probably the best quality fish I've ever had in a fish & chips dish! Really tender and soft. The batter was a little soft and soggy, though. The chips were even fish-flavored, probably friend in the same oil! However, while the middle part was soft and chewy, the outer part once again didn't have enough crisp, unlike the curly fries. You do get a giant plate and overall this was pretty great. MAMA'S WRAPS * Cleopatra's Wrap - 3 stars (hummus, tabouli, falafel & tahini sauce, cucumber, tomatoes. $6.95) pic: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mamas-place-boston?select=hSvX00xGkjnc75TqIcZ-Bw#NE9HntahR-P1m6a0-q7gqQ I thought this was an amazing deal, and you do get a huge wrap for this great price. Remember that you aren't getting any meat, which I was aware of. However, this IS a cold wrap (I thought the falafel might be toasted!), and the wrap itself was VERY stale and hard to bite through. This made it really hard to enjoy, especially since the hummus was absolutely delicious, very thick and fresh-tasting, the dominant flavor, and went so well with all the other ingredients.

Two employees were running back and forth filling bowls from the various ingredient stations, when it looked like having a third would have made things a lot more efficient. It gets even slower in this situation when you are crafting bowls. The line was almost back to the entrance. The cashier had her hands full too, occasionally having to step away for a few seconds. I was never asked about a beverage, I guess you have to speak up on your own. That's too bad for them as well, because beverage sales typically have a higher profit margin. Probably half of the people in the dining area did not have beverages. Also during busy times, it can be as tough finding someplace to sit inside as it is finding a space in the parking garage. Still, I did really enjoy my salad, though I think by default they give you more dressing than necessary. Having experienced that once, I'll know to ask for a little less next time.

We loved the music, lively atmosphere, and fantastic service as much as the killer food. The menu features an entire page of imaginative cocktails, each artfully prepared and presented. The Strawberry Cheesecake is one of Merai's signatures, and it actually looks like a slice of strawberry cheesecake. We started with the beautifully presented Golden beet salad, which was bursting with flavor from the Thai chili jam dressing, followed by the Grilled Caulilini. Similar to broccolini but from the cauliflower family, it was grilled and served with tomato-tomatillo relish, fish sauce, and finely grated Parmesan. We took the bartender's advice and ordered the signature Hot Dog, made with spicy krapow sausage and served in a toasted bun with salted egg yolk mayo and caramelized basil. I rarely eat meat, but I had to make an exception to try it, and it did not disappoint. I'm not usually a fan of fried food or rice, but I was persuaded to try the Chicken Rice, and all I can say is WOW! Chicken legs are stuffed with garlic rice and fried with caramelized fish sauce, creating a sweet, sticky, and utterly delicious crispy exterior. The chicken must be eaten by hand, and it was truly finger-licking good. I can't recommend Merai highly enough and will definitely be back. While I was waiting for my food, one of the cooks (Latino gentleman I think, didn't get his name) called me over from across the room and asked me if I wanted greens in my bowl. I couldn't understand if he meant in addition to the quinoa that I ordered or instead of the quinoa so I just said ok. I was surprised later to find that my bowl did not have the quinoa that I ordered. Why would he ask if I want greens instead of just reading my order? I called to report the issue and dismissed it as a miscommunication. The second time, I submitted my order online. It was about a $45 order (two bowls). While waiting for my food, I asked one of the girls (Latino girl, kind of big with curly hair I think) if my order was ready. She said no and asked me if I wanted chicken in my bowl. I said that all of the information was already in the order that I submitted online and paid for. By the time I got home, I noticed the protein in one of the bowls was missing: teriyaki seitan. I went all the way back to the restaurant and asked to speak with the manager. She seemed to already know that the food was missing and asked, "chicken"? And she said that I could not speak to the manager. She offered me a free dessert but I declined. Again, I asked her to read my order instead of confirming with me what I wanted in my order. She said ok and handed me a container of food. On my way to the car, I checked the container and it was buffalo chicken, not seitan. I told her that it was seitan missing, not chicken, and she apologized. She handed me the seitan and I went home. When I got home to eat my bowl, I noticed not only was the seitan missing but the chicken was missing. So both bowls were missing protein. Fortunately, I still had the chicken she incorrectly handed me the first time. To recap, I paid $45 for two bowls. Both were missing the proteins (the most expensive and substantial part of the meal). I went back and she failed to fix my order and refused to put me in contact with the manager. Overall, there seems to be a major communication gap and maybe an English comprehension gap in the staff where they are unable to understand what's being ordered, causing major inconvenience and incorrectly making what is priced as a premium meal.
