The gentleman at the front register overcharged my credit card by over 25%. When confronted, he only gave me about half my money back. I had to again explain the math, and then he gave me my money back. He was at least apologetic. The steak in the steak tip caesar salad was inedible and filled with fat. This is a great little deli/convenience market. Their lunch prices are reasonable and the sandwiches/burgers offered are cooked to order - but made quickly. They accept level up for payment. Since I'm temping in the fundraising department of a neighboring nonprofit - I've stopped at Bostonian Market & Cafe for lunch at least twice a week. read more

My fiancé, a foodie, and I stopped in here for a lunch after visiting SoWa, because the options at SoWa were way overpriced. Honestly, I don't understand why there wasn't a line out the door. It doesn't look fancy from the outside (see photo), but the food inside is excellent, and serving sizes are very reasonable. My "bargain radar" brought us here. Our sandwiches were with fresh and flavorful ingredients, and the owner and his son were quick, friendly and conscientious. I will be back as their prices can't be beat (7.99 cheeseburger with fries, same for his--to quote him, "phenomenal" Reuben). I didn't see anyone loitering by the door before, during or after our meal. This was on a Sunday around 1pm. read more

Bostonian is a gem. It looks like a typical convenient store with some Boar's Head deli sandwiches, nothing striking, but the food and service are exceptional. The owner and staff are always incredibly friendly and their Chicken Supreme sandwich has captured the hearts of everyone I've introduced. This place deserves 5 stars for the service their employees provide. It's just a humble little cafe/convenience store, but these guys are some of the nicest people I've come across in Boston anywhere. Every time I've gone in they're friendly and obliging and they make this place the diamond in the rough it is. Their breakfast sandwiches are fast, $3 or less, hot off the grill, and fantastic. Their lunch sandwiches are also cheap (especially by South End standards) and they use Boar's Head meats, so it's quality. I had a steak and cheese sub here once that was pretty mediocre, but so far everything else has been great. read more

"Eek!" popped up when my mouse hovered over the first star. Eek! is right, yelp. I headed over here with a few friends to get lunch to go during a day at the SOWA Market. Some of the items in the store looked like they had been sitting on the shelves for months. (covered in dust!) Now for the food-- My friend got a veggie wrap, which was full of cheese. Cheese wasn't mentioned on the menu, and the cashier didn't ask if she wanted cheese. My friend hates cheese. She wasn't a fan, and didn't finish her sandwich. Her husband got The Cowboy (Roast beef, cheese and BBQ sauce) He enjoyed his, but commented that the BBQ sauce tasted like it was from McDonalds-- but hey, maybe that was a compliment! So, +1 Star on his behalf. I got Taste of the South (Turkey, Guacamole, hot peppers, lettuce and tomato) I was pretty happy with it, until I found a hair in my sandwich. As for the service, it was very slow, even though it wasn't particularly busy. There WAS only one guy working the counter, so I have to give him credit, but he seemed more interested in the Yankees game on TV than actually helping his customers. Next time I find myself in the SOWA district, I'll seek other options for lunch. read more

I did not have high expectation. I was exhausted and tired and wanted something convenient, a place to sit down, and an adult beverage. Snagged a table on the partitioned outdoor patio. Used a code on the table to bring up the menu on my smartphone- the menu was easy to navigate, too. Server came around took drink orders and immediately brought ice water. Many of the items on the menu looked promising but when I heard of the special (pan seared Salmon with artichoke and gnocchi) I order it. My dish was an absolute hit! It was as beautifully presented and created as any would find in an upscale restaurant. Other members in my party were pleased with their choices as well. The cocktails were fantastic and we ordered another round and ended the meal with the donuts- just awesome ! It's evident that the management knows their stuff, as does the kitchen and the front of the house. Finally, our server was smart, quick, and responsive - a real pro! I'm torn about this place. The service and sandwich were awesome (I got a ruben, perfectly toasted marble rye) but it seems like people from the homeless shelter stand outside and inside the shop. I almost didn't go in due to this. I was going to stop in for a quick breakfast sandwich (found out that have an awesome combo for a coffee and sandwich for $4!) But I didn't go in due to the group of people gathered outside. I stopped in on my way back to my car, and there wasn't a small group of men waiting outside of the shop. The two guys behind the counter were very kind, and made my sandwich promptly, and asked what I wanted on it and if I wanted it toasted. Me and my girlfriend were looking for places to try something new. Ive read the review prior to ordering from this "Bostonian Market and Cafe" place, and I can definitely say the experience was disappointing. The Cheese pizza was hard and burned at the bottom, made very sloppy and I didn't know what I was looking at really. , I was able to knock on it and received a response. The "Pepperoni" Pizza was probably the most unappealing slice of pizza Ive ever gotten in my entire lifetime. All in All, theres pictures below for the naysayers and on top of that one of the workers had the nerve to deflect my complaint about the said food. read more

I love everything about this place! The food is delicious, the service is amazing, and it's right across the street from my office. Every order has been made quickly and the owners are just so humble and kind. The complaints from others is all part of the charm of this place. I know there are a few reviews here speaking of the loitering outside. I agree it is a bit excessive, but it's likely that they are all patrons of this market at one point or another. Amazing food & great service. Very friendly owners. The salads from there are exceptional, and they are in great proportions, more than enough to fill you up. Next time you go, i recommend you to try the 'on the fire', 'french quarter', 'chicken ceasar wrap', and the 'thai chicken wrap', my personal favorites. Those are some must tries. Food is pretty decent for the area , but the service not so good .. We are a local business in the area and they always tell us they will deliver for us because we are always getting our lunch there .. But everytime we called they wouldn't deliver , BUT then again right on the menu it says they deliver as well . Poor customer service the girl answering the phone always gets confused with orders and didn't even know what their own bostonian sauce was .. And on top of it they have messed up our orders on multiple occasions and refused to bring us new food .. The guys here are always friendly and helpful. I've tried the Arostica Chicken Wrap, which I LOVE. The Turkey BLT is average except they use Boar's Head turkey and the burgers are just a mediocre fast food patty. I went into the Bostonian market and cafe it smelled pretty good when I walked in I was very hungry and new to the area once I walk in all I see is homeless people siting down all around I felt a little nervous about that especially if I was going to eat there food with homeless people around second there was a guy in the back counter sweating while making subs it was so stuffy in there no air conditioning at all no wonder he was sweating you could tell they had poor appreciation with there employees I ordered a blt and this other guy started to make it it looked like he was just making a sub for himself he did not change his gloved he forgot what I ordered a put mustard I had to get a new one it looked like he was tierd the girl in the front counter was trying to calm other customers down with lunch being so busy at that moment she wrote what I ordered correctly overall they sucked and I would never order from there again read more
