It took my waiter 20 minutes to come back so I could tell her please change it. She served me another one & it was fine but I didn't receive a "Sorry about that" just a " I got you girl." My food took almost 40 minutes and came out cold and the waiter told me the chef thought it was a "to go " order. I have to say that for the amount of times that I have gone to MamaSushi, when it originated in Dyckman Piers to now coming for the first time to this establishment in the Bronx, it has by far has left a nasty taste in my mouth and I will never come back as the services was not the greatest. For starters, I placed my order about an hour and 45 minutes ago and while waiting for my food and watching customers who arrived at most 25 mins prior to this post has receive hookah services and sushi roles and have eaten. I'm just getting my food and hour and 45 mins later and honestly guys, I understand that there are busy moments, but! when you order a good amount of food and it comes out stale, non flavored and as if it has been sitting there for about an hour. I ordered a California role that had no flavor and rice was not fresh and stale, I also ordered a crunchy spicy tuna which guys! It had no crunch to it what's so ever. My daughter requested 3 roles in which one was a shrimp Tempura in which should've been warm but was cold and soggy. My cousin ordered one of their special roles called El Fuerte which taste more like el Debil and the meat was dry and was cold as hell. I returned my food and staid I will be getting a sandwich from the deli or a slice of Pizza. What's sad about the moment that we were not offered anything to hold us why we wait. And was over charged for crappy service and food. Although they removed a few things off the menu. But was very minimum. It's sad when a name get to full of themselves they start slacking in service. It was my first time trying a new sushi place an it was okay. I got three rolls (el mocano, tres golpe, and lobster and steak) El mocano was my favorite. After a while the plantain was too overpowering and a bit odd to add in sushi to say the least but i eat weird stuff all the time Tres golpe was gross to me. I LOVE tres golpe just not in sushi form. Again the plantain in this as a weird mix and a bit too salty Lobster and steak- my first time having Waygu beef and it was tender but it was thin sliced and pretty good I ordered off of grubhub so the description literally said "white rice, lobster, waygu beef" i was excited but when i received it i was disappointed. The lobster wasn't just boiled unseasoned lobster. It had a weird flavor to it, not sure what it was seasoned with. There was also a sauce on top of the beef along with plantain again lol not the biggest fan of. Too much rice than I'm used to in my regular rolls. The prices are crazy but you do get a lot of sushi. In total i paid $63 for three rolls, sashimi and a small juice that honestly could've been bigger. Would i try this place again? Sure, you'll never know if you hate something if you don't try it. Called 2x to ask about the status of the order because the website doesn't give any updates, only estimated delivery time on "chow Now". Once the time passes it disappears and there is no other update. On the phone staff person said they only had 1 driver that was the reason for delay. They could have given us the option of picking up or at least text to let us know about the delay. Besides that--once we got the cold order NOTHING is labeled so we had to try to figure out 6 different types of rolls. I would go to the restaurant but not order for delivery again. Most things on the menu were slightly overpriced for the portion size. Hookah was great, but limited flavors and it was $40, plus $20 for every refill. Service was bad, waitress acted like she didn't want to serve us. Music selection was good but it was very loud, giving it more of a lounge/club vibe. At night it gets super packed and busy. I wish I can give more than 5 stars . Now it's hard to find restaurants that have great service and it's harder to find amazing waiters. The moment I walked into the establishment I was seated with my party of 3 right away. There was no such thing as wait time when it came to my waiter. Alturo was the best hands down. Consistently checking on my table to make sure we were happy with our food and drinks. The food was delicious and the drinks were even better. Really good food, but boy did the server screw up. Went with 6 other people, everybody loved the food. But the server forgot my main course. I had just finished telling one of the guys to cancel the order because everybody else had finished. The server, Rogelio or Rodrigo, whatever his name is, came out seconds later with my main course. He said it was delayed because I never told the chef to fire the dish after my appetizer! AS IF it's my job to do that. EVERYBODY ELSE at the restaurant got their main courses without going back to the kitchen and telling the chef her job. He also gave me a bunch of attitude with my plate. I didn't order attitude and it spoils the rest of the meal so keep it to yourself, You're working for Me, server Rogelio or Rodrigo, whatever your name is. The whole point of your job is contained in your job title, server, (SER ver, noun, plural: servers, Middle English, One who serves). You must have slept through that part of new server orientation. I asked the manager if Mama was available; he patiently explained that Mrs. Sushi ("Mama" is a little too familiar, staff just call her Mrs. Sushi), wasn't available at the moment. So I told him that server Rogelio or Rodrigo, whatever his name is, doesn't really get the duties of his job title, and therefore doesn't perform his duties very well, as giving attitude is the sole purview of the Maitre d'hotel at Chez Pierre in Tribeca. The manager, who clearly gets the duties of One who manages, assured me he would address the issue. Good enough, thank you, Manager. Menu was Really interesting, lots of good-looking choices, food was delicious, portions generous, fair price for all we got. And a Lot of fun sitting outside at well-distanced tables. Great time except for server Rogelio or Rodrigo, whatever his name is. Mrs. Sushi, you get 4 stars because your place is 4-star. When me and the rest of my group (Black women) arrived, the hostess immediately had an attitude and said it's a 2 hour wait... meanwhile there were empty seats. She never called us back. Disgusting way of profiling customers and conducting business, all three locations do stuff like this all the time to filter their customers based on the color of their skin. They finally opened up a Mamasushi in the Bronx! It has definitely been long over due. Because of Covid we unfortunately did not get to experience the indoor vibes of the place nor were we able to get hookah because their hookah license hadn't come in yet. But regardless of that, my experience was pretty good. The food as per usual did not disappoint, I had the El Montro and La Chapiadora which is what I have every time I go there and two coconut mojitos. The coconut mojitos were really good but I think they weren't consistent in alcohol, the second mojito definitely had more coconut milk/cream than alcohol. Other than that, I think the downside (of course probably due to the downsizing from covid) the service was very slow. The food did not come in unison and each person's meal came maybe 20-30 minutes after ordering so we could not even wait for everyone's meal to eat. Also I think the restaurant needs to work on managing customers better in terms of getting a table. I saw a lot of people waiting like two hours but some people were able to get a seat fairly quickly upon arrival. Thankfully my friends and I were able to get a seat within ten minutes because when I tried calling prior, the phone lines were consistently busy. One of the absolute worst meals I've ever had. I stepped in hear on a whim after a funeral in the area and walked into a sushi nightclub. The smell and taste of hookah is still lingering on my clothes and tastebuds. It's disgusting to see hookah smoke blowing onto the sushi bar . The menu was full of strange combinations like sushi with guacamole and pic de Gallo on top. I asked for a regular salmon roll and the server was so confused and tried to get me to order something on the menu. The miso soup was decent but overpriced as was everything else. The sushi was pretty gross almost gas station level gross. The rice was mushy and tasted like chemicals. I've eaten sushi all my life and have even been lucky enough to travel to Japan and have never wanted to throw up so badly after eating a meal.This restaurant is an absolute disgrace and the pit of humanity. That was not sushi that was disgusting. Please don't go and let's hope and pray that this establishment goes away. read more
