If I could give this a zero I would. First of all valet parking is $20 and you have to pay cash in advance. I have never seen this ridiculousness anywhere else. Then we are on time for our 6:30 pm reservation and we're told we had a two hour window max. Who dies this. To call this a sushi restaurant is an insult. That had BASIC rolls that they zazzed up with Mexican touches which I'm not necessarily adverse to.....as long as it was good and they had fresh fish. Not just salmon, tuna and shrimp. I want UNI and exotic fish from a restaurant that has SUSHI in the name. They also have Hookah? In a sushi restaurant? So we have Japanese, Mexican and Arab touches? Bizarre at best. The service was all over the place. He too reminded us that we had two hours. Everything we ordered was too spicy. Sometimes sushi people are purists and expect fish and they add the spice themselves. They charged $25 for each cocktail too. Not worth it. I would never go there again. My local sushi takeout is one tenth of the price and has the best fresh fish ever. This place is trying to be a night club more than a quality sushi restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful. Everything looks beautiful and clean. The service was good. Everyone was friendly. The food was ok. The concept is genius, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. They offer sauces that do not compliment the food. I wish there was something that bridged the sushi and Latin foods. I was super excited because these are two of my favorite cuisines. What they serve are just tiny portions of your favorite Latin dishes rolled in seaweed and deep fried. I also found the frying to be unnecessary and it made the dish very dry. Brought my aunt here from Miami because it's one of my favorite spots. Thought I'd brag about how good the food was until half way through her sushi she found a hair in her mouth that was wrapped in it. Disgusted by seeing it I instantly call the server over, she then starts to apologize and grabs the hair my aunt just took out her mouth and puts it in her hands. She then looks at it and says "this is synthetic" I couldn't believe that she would sit there and examine the hair. She leaves to the kitchen and never comes back with an explanation or anything. We call her over the table to get the check because at this point we don't even want to continue eating the rest of the food we didn't even touch, we wanted to l leave. The waiter comes and she says "the manager said to take the sushi that had the hair out the bill" what kind of customer service is that? A $6 California roll...so the $6 was worth losing a customer. Mama sushi recently opened and have been wanting to try it but due to Covid we refrain from outdoor seating. Today, we called to do a pick up order to at least try the food. Order a Pad Thai and some Cripsy Vegetable Spring rolls. The Spring rolls were the best part of our meal. We served enough Pad Thai just to try it first. I must say it was one of the SALTIEST meal I have ever had. I want to say that cheese was on the Pad Thai as if it were Spaghetti. I was here with my friends last night for dinner and I witnessed a african american party of 2 being mistreated, and not given their table instead the hostess gave their table to 3 hispanic women who abruptly came in for the first time with no wait. Wow!! So I'm very disappointed with the service tonight. Me and my cousin came for dinner after making reservation and having it confirmed thru that our seats were ready. The attitude that the hostess had with us rubbed us the wrong way so after asking for the manager and an exchange of words ( not so nice words) we decided to leave .. 2/20/21 Beautiful Black Woman here (Tremont Ave) was placed at a very small table for 2 no space to even put my personal items . I asked the manager if anything else was available 2x very politely he told me and I quote : Don't be ungrateful because I was lucky to get a seat FYI there was more space available 4 seat tables being occupied by 2 people what a lovely and professional choice of words huh.... he was very rude and sarcastic totally unnecessary . I downloaded yelp specifically for this cheap excuse for a restaurant. Mamasushi is Glitter covered poop. This is the most overhyped restaurant on the entire Tremont strip of restaurants. To begin, the service here is top notch BAD. The waitress that my family had didn't understand English, so every order we had was met with a confused look and question. Even though we are mostly latino we did have others at our table that don't speak Spanish. The food is at best mediocre. Being a chain restaurant we expected better food and better service. The menu also doesnt specify what is spicy or not on the menu so my wife and daughter couldn't eat the roasted chicken because it overly spiced. A glass of apple juice for my child was also 7 bucks, that is outrageous for not only a kids juice but for a Bronx restaurant. My brother in law waited almost an hour for his red snapper to come out after everyone on the table had already finished their meals and all the waitress kept saying was its coming. (For 1hr) !!! They also could care less if you get good service as they charge a gratuity to your bill after $100. We were a table of 5 but this included a child. Manhattan prices for mediocre food with 3rd world country service. If I could give less than a star I would.
