Mamey is such a tropical escape in Coral Gables. The vibe is tropical yet modern, with a fun mix of retro colors, playful prints, and tons of greenery that make the space feel warm and inviting. You can choose from a cozy ground-floor terrace, a lush indoor dining room, or the rooftop (Mamey on 3rd), perfect for happy hour with live music. The service was efficient and friendly, Ken took great care of us and made sure everything flowed smoothly. The menu has a great variety and everything is beautifully presented. I started with the sweet-sauce chicken wings, perfectly crispy and full of flavor, followed by a round of tacos, some with beef, others with chicken, fresh and well balanced. I also had the chance to shake things up with an espresso martini or known as RumWake. It had all those rich coffee aromas and an interesting twist from a banana nut texture. It was good, but I still prefer the classic version. Their mojito, which I usually don't enjoy, totally surprised me, bright mint notes toned down the sweetness just right. At Mamey, they call it the "Mint Condition," and it's definitely worth a conditional try. The one drink I liked the least was the Serata, essentially an Aperol spritz with Asian gin blended with Prosecco. It felt watered down and the flavors just didn't come together for me. Overall, Mamey delivers a unique "island-minded" experience that blends flavors from the Caribbean, Asia, and Latin America. Mamey's located inside the THesis Hotel in Coral Gables, and while the actual dining space is beautifully done -- dimly lit, nicely decorated -- the vibe was kinda lifeless. We asked the staff, and they said it's usually like that. Might be due to the location -- you've got to park in a garage, take an elevator, and it's not the most intuitive place to find or get into. That said, service was great. Quick, friendly, and helpful. For food: * Olivia got the shrimp Caesar salad -- super fresh, really well done. * I had the short rib, which was awesome. Came with this little pickled salad situation that balanced the richness perfectly. Would we come back? Yes -- especially if we're in the area or looking for a quiet dinner. My friends surprised me with this for my birthday and to put it simply, it was a very pleasant surprise. Their menu is very small and limited and we were told that they had changed it recently. Even with that being said, everything we ordered was amazing. The appetizers all came out in a timely manner and tasted wonderful. The Ceviche fresh and refreshing, the Croq Mamey came with a sort of guava sauce on the side which added a very nice touch to the plate, and the tostones were amazing with a sauce that came on them which I ordered for the yuca fries with my steak later on. The Hanger Steak was cooked perfectly to temp. One thing i will say is the entrees took about an hour to come out and it didn't seem too busy in the restaurant. It also would've been nice to see some more cocktails included on the list. It seemed like everything was based off almost the same ingredients and none of the drinks really blew me away. It was a very small list and they were out of one the drinks we wanted to try. They do, however, have a full bar and made us a solid espresso martini. Finally, the ambiance inside is what drew my friends to pick this place. It is dim lit and full of greenery located at the bottom of the thesis hotel. I would definitely come back here. read more

As miami spice '23 season rolled out, I wanted to introduce my mom and sis to one of my Miami favorites: Mamey. Luckily, it didn't disappoint. The spice menu is quite generous. It's severed family style with full dishes off the menu. It was a lot of food, seasoned to the standards of my previous visits and everyone enjoyed throughly. What came out: croquettes, pad Thai, curry grouper,salad, duck friend rice, cheesy toast and the must try rum cake! Hmmm. As long write this I'm tempted to book my next resy. As in prior reviews service was outstanding and there's both a high end interior or more relaxed outdoor breezeway to seat at. I have been wanting to try this Niven Patel's restaurant for a while, so glad I finally got a chance during this year's Miami Spice. The restaurant is located inside a hotel on US1. There's not much parking spots nearby: across the street the parking spots are reserved for park users. You can valet or use the hotel's garage, or if you don't mind walking a block, across the street there's a large metro station parking lot. After reviewing the menu, I was about to give the waitress my choices when she told me that it's family style, so all dishes will be brought out to me. Fine by me as I am more than happy to get to sample everything. The portions are very generous, as you can see from the picture (all for one person!), could have fed another mouth and still not leave hungry. The dishes are delicious, I especially enjoy the watermelon salad, the ribs and the fish with green rice, though the use of spices and seasonings are on the subtle side, maybe to cater to customers not used to bold flavors. For the pad thai and the ceviche especially, I would like the flavors to pop more. Service is very nice, and the lush tropical themed decor makes it a relaxing place to enjoy time with friends. read more

I've been to Mamay three times - twice for Happy Hour and most recently for their Miami Spice menu. My only complaint are the prices, which are on the higher end, but everything I've tried has been great. For Miami Spice, their menu is served family-style in small servings, and as a vegetarian, I was very happy to see that two out of the four dishes for the appetizers and entrees were vegetarian! My husband has certain food allergies, and they even made accommodations for the dishes - like putting things on the side - for him (rare for Miami Spice!). But because they had two veg options and two non-veg, we were able to split it fairly evenly with plenty for both of us to eat. I had the watermelon salad, white truffle brie grilled cheese, farm vegetable pad thai, and ghee roasted plantains. For dessert, we shared the Jamaican rum cake. The grilled cheese was my favorite, particularly with the delicious mango jam. I also highly enjoyed the watermelon salad and the plantains. The pad thai was also good, but just not as great as the other dishes. The rum cake was incredibly delicious, and even though we were full after the dishes, we still polished it off. We sat inside on the lower level, and the ambiance on a Saturday night was very fun. They had a live music, and people would get up to dance throughout dinner. This is definitely a high-end trendy place, and I saw several people come in from the hotel looking for something more casual, and they ended up turning around. The Happy Hour during the week tends to be more quiet in the lower level, but upstairs on the terrace it was packed and very lively. I've enjoyed every drink I've ordered (even though it's $$$) alcoholic or non-alcoholic. Service is usually great. Only once did we have a pushy waiter during happy hour that tried to get us to stay and order more. For Miami Spice, we thought our waiter was very aware and sensitive to food allergies and food preferences, which we highly appreciated. One thing I will say, I got my money's worth at this joint for sure. Miami Spice menu is family style but as a single diner I ended up with 8 dishes...4 apps, 3 mains and a dessert; talk about a heck of a deal. As you would expect, some were hits and other were a miss so to make it simple I will only elaborate on the good ones and tell you which ones to ignore if you ever decide to visit. And...before I get to that, I will tell you the place is beautiful and the service is A1 and I wouldn't expect anything less from a fine dining establishment such as this one here. In addition, the cocktails were spot on, delicious and packed a decent punch, now that's out of the way, these are the ones to skip and this is just my humble opinion.... GHEE ROASTED PLANTAINS...nothing about this main dish was appealing or appetizing. Not sure if it was the type of plantains or how these were cooked but I took one single bite and moved plate to the side. MISHIMA RANCH CHURRASCO: not necessarily the worst but I've had better skirt steak in smaller restaurants, not fine dining ones and in plenty of restaurant where skirt steak isn't their specialty. Again, is not terrible, it was cooked medium how I asked and all but it wasn't mouthwatering or something to talk about. My cut was a tad chewy and that's a big no no for me. Truth be told, the chimichurri was the best part and I didn't care for the yuca as a carb. I'd say churrasco is not their thing and that's ok because out of 8 dishes only these two were a miss. LOCAL CEVICHE, SUMMER WATERMELON SALAD, WHITE TRUFFLE & BRIE GRILLED CHEESE, BAHAMIAN CONCH FRITTERS, LEMONGRASS GLAZED GROUPER, FARM VEGETABLE PAD THAI: these were all hits and dishes I'd go back for. Ceviche was phenomenal...fresh ingredients and coconut leche de tigre was delicious; watermelon salad was refreshing...takin and goat cheese made the difference especially because Tajin is a perfect complement to juicy fruits. The grilled cheese sandwich is not like your traditional home made sandwich but the white truffle also made all the difference as well as the mango jam. Conch fritters o couldn't get enough of since it was only 2 but without a doubt some of the best in town; cilantro aioli was great but a few lemon squeezes would do. The grouper was one of the highlights for me; flawlessly cooked fish, lightly glazed. The Thai curry and bamboo rice were superb and bok choy was a nice touch. Pad Thai had a little kick to it and the peanuts added the crunch that's required on an excellent pad Thai. This is one dish I'd love to try again. And last but not least...one incredibly delicious rum cake and that's coming from a person that's not big on dessert or sweets for that matter. My friend had already been here before and told me not to skip dessert and same some room for it. Since I took most of the food home I had some room left and I'm glad I did. The cake alone is to die for but then add that toffee sauce and a side of vanilla bean ice cream and OOH LA LA. Waiter did a little presentation when to pour the toffee cream so there's that too which is always a little bonus for me. There's a few other dishes to try on this menu and there was also a two person band playing Latin tunes while I was dining so it added a little liveliness to my dining experience. Oh one more thing, the rooftop area for Happy Hour is gorgeous and the HH menu is pretty decent. They too have a DJ/LIVE MUSIC set up in that area. There's valet and a parking garage which is a good thing since street parking is almost nonexistent. read more

I've visited many times over the years, but overall pretty disappointed by the service this time around. Food was good and ambience was great, but not sure I'd come back. When I arrived for my 7:30pm reservation, no one was at the front desk. One other woman was waiting in front of me as well. Several employees walked by and looked at us but didn't mention a word, offer help or ask how they could be of service. By the time we were seated, the server didn't take our meal request until after maybe 20 minutes (there were only 4 or 5 other groups and plenty of open table that evening, so not very busy). Once we ordered, another server stopped by and asked if we had ordered the Miami Spice menu because we had ordered the grilled cheese. We had no idea the Miami Spice menu was available so were surprised to learn that was an option. I wish our server had mentioned it or suggested it when we were seated. Our food also took unusually long to arrive, which added to the already disappointing experience. I used to love this place, but wouldn't recommend to those looking for a date or night out. Here I am three years later, time has changed, the menu has changed and service in Miami is a hit or miss. The ambiance is the only consistency that remained and it's beautiful inside the restaurant and on the roof. This is the spot you got to for drinks and maybe a small bite. My friend had the empanadas and a ceasar salad and I had the mussels (this was the highlight and only great dish in my opinion) and ordered the jerk chicken (which was sent back for being dry). The manager, Elie came by and offered us two drinks on the house but I still left hungry and went home to cook. I'm not sure I'll go back, but you never know. Overall, I had an unsatisfactory experience at Mamey Miami. I went here with a group of 16 friends on a Friday evening. We selected this resistant because it had great reviews. It also accommodated large parties and had a pre-fixed menu with 3 set courses which we thought would make the experience more seam. The restaurant wasn't crowded and while we were seated quickly that was the only part of the experience that was quick. We spent 3 hours here - primarily because it took between 30mins - 1 hour between each course. In addition to that, we were sat at two separate but neighboring tables and each table received their food at different times. Each course there was a long period of time were one table was eating and the other was sitting around waiting for their food. The food itself was fine, nothing amazing. We mostly bussed the tables ourselves by collecting our plates in the hopes that the waiters would come by to collect them eventually as we went very long periods without being waited on. Despite the restaurant not being full. The worst part of the experience was after 2 hours of this, we had to ask for the manager to receive an update. The manager did not come by of their own volition to check on us or apologize. It wasn't until we asked that he spoke with us. He did offer us a modest discount which we appreciated though it did not rectify the experience. I would not recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning. read more
