Our pup got sick on the way up (like going to the bathroom every other hour sick) and found this pet shop to look for some Fortiflora. They unfortunately didn't have any but the employee recommended Diggin Firm Up and this worked almost immediately. So Bummed, been coming here for years for dog supplies. We want to support local small businesses. Just needed a couple cups of kibble to finish our trip. Loved that they had small portions you could buy. Sales gal took it upon herself to fill the bag, we said it was perfect and then she filled it some more... doubled it. Pretty silly, but the guy at the counter said we should have done it ourselves, made a big deal and said it was our fault. Plus...a couple other rude comments on top of that. We didn't ask her to fill it, so silly for that amount of negativity from the guy. We're only heading to the pet store by Vons from now on, they are always nice. The pet shop always has anything I need when I'm visiting town. Everyone there is always so helpful and friendly too! If you feed your dog taste of the wild- they have dispensers to refill your own food containers by the ounce. And the self serve dog wash has saved my trip more than a few times. I love this place! The staff is so nice and super helpful and they have a good selection of products for a small store. My hubby and I were camping nearby with our two dogs (one big and one little) and after 5 days in the dirt and hiking in the dirt the pups were DIRTY and itchy (allergies)! So we stopped in to try out the self-serve dog wash. It's $10 for 15 min per dog and goes up if you need more time. They have one room with a large wash basin, aprons, towels a dryer and a couple brushes. There are 3 soap and conditioner options which come through the faucet like the self serve car washes do. The dryer has heat and power settings but even the low setting blows pretty hard. A lot harder then my blow dryer so I had to hold it far away from my little dog and the big dog just wasn't having it at all. She got towel dried. Good thing they had a lot of towels!! $20 and less then 30 min and we had clean dogs for some shopping, dining and the trip home tomorrow. That part is Priceless! read more

Great store! We camp in the Eastern Sierras every summer. The dogs get pretty dirty. I found out about the self serve dog wash on a local radio station. It is fantastic. I was offered several shampoo choices and everything was included, even an apron so I didn't get soaked. They have a large dog food selection and they carry Taste of the Wild, which is what I feed my two puppies. Sometimes it can be pretty hard to find, but this store has all the flavors. I wasn't going to post this until I saw all the other 1 star reviews on the page. They carry a lot of cheap products sold at a premium but don't accept returns. Look for the review about dog boots. The dog had even been injured by their product and they won't refund her. It's one thing when you buy $12 boots online. It's another when you pay $60 to have them sized at your store. My experience was only with a dog bowl. A $90 plastic dog bowl which was advertised to me as a Brita pitcher for dogs. The thing is, it leaves more dirt behind than a low flow toilet. I still have the original packaging and all. The guy behind the counter essentially ended up shouting at me after I told them it seems unfair to have to contact the manufacturer. He began attacking my character so I decided to leave. I could still hear him after the door had closed behind me. It was rather strange and he escalated the situation so quickly. I even tried asking him about his dogs to get the conversation back on track and defuse the situation. There was a blonde lady behind the counter. Possibly the owner? I was trying to talk to her because she was remaining calm. Every time, he kept responding so aggressively she didn't have a chance to speak. I'm curious what she had to say. Anyway, I don't enjoy leaving one star reviews. However, in a town like Mammoth it's too easy to get away with doing business poorly. Great little pet store, got a planet dog harness and a bungee short lease that wraps around my waist -- which I must review: 1 though it looks silly, it has been very convenient when I need both hands to take down the recycling and walk my dog right after 2 I can unhook and adjust the strap and just roll it around my hand for added length. My poodle has been learning to stay close on walks even after many years of shooting out on walks with the now retired and never again 6' extendable leashes. We both love walking closeby each other and soon ill be training him to be well behaved, leash less 3. For jogging it is a great leash invention. I called to look for a bungee leash before stopping by--trying to replace a really perfect one I lost on a road trip. For uphills, my dog helps pull me along to jog faster! 4 it's pink. My dog is a boy, but we don't mind being progressive or mind him being referred to as a 'she'. We just like pink vs the bright yellow other option. It wasn't bad, but we love pink! The planet dog harness is blue though, so it works 5 I attach my little dog waste bag dispenser on the handle and if I know I have to wear it around my waist Ill insist on taking it off & just hold a bag. I'm not cool enough to pull off such a look! I'd be impressed to find someone who could! The guy working there was helpful - he was stoked on the fact that you could wear it as a belt and initially I thought to myself "no way" but he actually put it on himself to demonstrate and... I am confident to say that won the sale. & I'm so happy to always have a hands free option now! Thanks!! Extra star for that! read more

Jack was more helpful than any other pet store I've ever been in. I ended up finding about 10 things I wasn't able to find in my local store and Jack outfitted us with all of them. He made sure everything was proper size, secured it and showed me how to use everything. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't ask for or need and offered to have me call if I had any follow up questions. The service was SO good that I will likely wait to buy all my dog supplies moving forward until I come back up to Mammoth. Thank you Jack for your stellar service and support. We were traveling through Mammoth and needed to purchase more dog food for our pups, so we stopped by this store as we had seen it while we were out. Glad we came by! They have a variety of high quality foods and treats and sold the brand we usually feed which was awesome. I have worked in the pet industry for years and know quite a bit about some of these brands and we were pleased with their selection! They also have a self wash with Nootie shampoo and conditioner (at our time of washing) which works great on my dogs so we were so happy with that as well. Staff was very nice and helpful, so overall we had an awesome transaction! Would definitely stop by here again and would recommend to others! read more

Stephanie, the owner, is a rude b@#$%. I have never heard her be poilite or helpful to a customer. I have been a Mammoth Local for 36 years and always try to shop local when I can. However, I will no longer solicite the store. Her husband is always nice and I don't knowhow he tolerates her bad behavior - it must be embarrassing for him. I was given a gift certificate for this store as a chrismas gift. I have never used it and when I went to find i today t I could not locate it. I called the store to tell her that I have misplaced the certificate and she said "too bad" "it's not her fault that people lose things" I asked her to void that certificate and reissue a new one to me and she said "that's not how our system works" I know that the certificate is in her computer because everytime I go in to purchase dog food they ask me about it. So, instead of being helpful and giving me a new piece of paper, she is stealing my $100 and she doesnt care that I will NEVER shop in her store and that I am writing a BAD review. I would give them ONE-star but for the fantastic selection they have of EVERYTHING, including my hard to find overpriced designer dog food. I can only begin to describe how excited I was to find out Mammoth Pet Shop had my hard to find dog food. I love supporting local businesses wherever I am. This is definitely one of the infamous Mammoth businesses that seems to think treating visitors well does not matter. My dissapointment in the service was heart breaking The problem is, while I may not live here, my parents do, and I'm up here every couple of months, year round, for no less than a week at at a time.... with my giant designer dog food eating dog. He eats about $150 food a month. That's a lot of kibble that I would gladly buy up here, rather than lug up the mountain. The service is an absolute zero. The clerk granted me mono-syllabic grunts in answer to my questions and didn't even pretend to appreciate my business. Even when I tried to find out about a particular animal in the turtle tank to explain to my kids, I got a one word grunted answer. It was clear that I was interupting her with my $30 dog food purchase, which was only for the next 6 days. This is one of my extended trips, but my husband will bring up next weeks supply of dog food from down south. I'm not giving Mammoth Pet Shop any more of my money. read more

Thank you for responding. It seems to me that your employee lied to you. We did not go on a 15-20 mile hike with those shoes. When I said " on our third use/walk" we literally went on a small walk that took us around 15 minutes and that is what cut my dogs dew claw. Your employee explained not to use the shoes right away on long walks. So we didn't because we indeed did use our common knowledge. To clarify regarding the return We had a receipt and the box because we had Purchased it a week prior to coming in. We just needed to go get it at our place of stay, but didn't get the chance to. Your "team member" did help for a while in fitting my dogs paws. He tried on two different shoes and he thought with his "expertise" that the smaller ones fit better. Coming in as an inexperienced costumer relying on your employees expertise, It is expected that this type of situation would not happen. The issue is not with ruffwear shoes, ( and yes we contacted them) it is with the employee who fit her incorrectly who then is the responsible individual. Had she got fitted properly, this wouldn't be an issue. As for treatment of your employee, he was not kind nor helpful in resolving this issue. Yelling at us and simply just saying no does not help fix the problem at hand. I sincerely hope matters are taken in better form than what we had experienced. Thank you. read more

The Mammoth Pet Shop is AMAZING! They have great natural and healthy food and treats for my doggie & they provide lots of friendly recommendations. No junk sold here! Last time I was in there, I overheard a nasty phone call conversation between one of the owners and a crazy lady trying to sell a litter of puppies. Steph calmly said no and told the lady that they don't sell dogs in their store. When asked why, she said that purchasing the puppies would promote the idea of breeding animals for money and that with the abundance of kill shelters in the area, this is a cause they do not support, nor is it a cause that most pet shops would support. It sounded like argument ensued, with the lady on the other end of the phone lecturing the owner about how she's been breeding dogs for 15 years... ultimately, it ended with the owner repeatedly telling the lady that she will not purchase dogs for resale, and that maybe it would have been a good idea to have bred dogs with prospective buyers already in mind. I was surprised at how well Steph maintained her composure. I would have been a lot more rude about it, to tell you the truth. YAHOO for animal lovers running a pet shop! read more

Mike & Stephanie; the owners of this store go above and beyond the call of duty to run an amazing place. They order quality products, and truly specialize in their industry. The motivation behind today's review is to publicly thank owner Stephanie for her expert advice, research, and quality products for my dog child (a chocolate lab-weimaraner rescue) who has recently been diagnosed with pancreatitis. In the past few weeks he has gone from a former glutton (the lab in him), to an anorexic picky eater; resulting in a significant weight loss and major concern to his mommy. Stephanie has gone above and beyond with research, suggestions, and ordering of quality low fat easily digestible food while keeping my dogs champagne taste and my beer budget in mind. I even emailed her one night last week while I was out of town and my dog had stopped eating. She responded "send your dog sitter in tomorrow, I'll have some stuff waiting at the front for him". She pulled product, put it at the front for my dog sitter, and told me she would put it on my account and I could pay for it when I got back. This is the amazing type of stuff these guys do. This is the Cheers of pet stores; they are the best. I should mention a lot of the pricing is competitive too; which frankly is near impossible to do in a small town. This place is a life saver, my wife and I were staying in mammoth visiting the different lakes and attractions like devil's post pile, needless to say, our dogs became dirty, itchy and somewhat smelly after laying in dirt playing in water at horseshoe lake. I found this place while going to rite aid. The day before leaving mammoth we stopped by mammoth pet shop self service dog wash, we were greeted by a kind gentleman who instructed us on using their equipment and choices of shampoo and conditioner and provided us with towels and an apron, blow dryer was also available, once we bathed our dogs they were clean their coats soft and had a nice scent. This place also has dog food, treats and toys for your pooch. We will difinately be back on our future visits to mammoth. read more

As noted in other reviews, this place does not like taking anything back even if it has been reported to Consumer's Affairs as being toxic and potential fatal for your pet. So I will give a complete breakdown of my experience with these owners. I bought some 'natural' flea medicine that I was told would be completely safe with my dogs. I wasn't so sure and was traveling for work so thought I should wait to double check reviews of the medicine online. So I bathed my dogs and didn't give them the flea medicine and glad I didn't. When I looked up reviews of the flea medicine, it is known for being toxic and required hospitalization for many dogs across the U.S. When I called up the owner, she was completely indifferent from the beginning, only cared about the receipt and if it was over the 30 day period. I told her about the medicine, how concerned I was... again complete indifference and even rudeness as to why I would be bothering her with this. And yes, oddly enough, this was the owner of a pet store. I then mailed her the medicine back with copies of many, many complaints to Consumer's Affairs about the toxicity and danger of this medicine. I told her that I wanted a refund and her to not sell this any longer. I gave her my contacts to send check to. I then got a call from her husband who is also part owner and he literally harassed me about wanting my money back and why I would be bothering them with this concern?? He, as with she, did not even address the idea of selling toxic medicine to healthy pets. I have now had to refer the issue to the BBB/others. I want to go into a pet store and assume they are selling and using Non-Toxic ingredients but this is not the case. This is a big concern and should concern others, especially in the little healthy hamlet that is Mammoth. Sorry for the long review but I think people should know who they are supporting. read more

We took our nervous nellie black lab in here to get fitted for dog shoes... I will say I felt bad for the guy helping us because she was so distraught... we had to close the store door because she bolted out and then practically bulldozed the closed door down after it was shut...he was so kind and patient with her. Needless to say we ended up buying dog shoes... she absolutely hates them... however it saved her feet on some of the hiking trails. The lady owner was a big help as well fitting her. She would often give me a single word response when I asked about a product. It seemed as if I was her step child. She was not helpful at all, and made me want to leave the store asap. Although, I will give the store credit to having a variety of products, but it does not compensate for the lack of service.
