This spot has that authentic NOLA feel from the moment you walk in, and the food absolutely delivered. Here's what I ordered: Crawfish fritters that were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. Catfish po' boy with perfectly seasoned catfish on fresh bread. Every bite was satisfying. Jambalaya rice that was bold, smoky, and full of Louisiana flavor. I loved it so much I ordered the rice and beans with andouille sausage and chicken to go. The flavor was THROUGH THE ROOF! Rich, comforting, and seasoned exactly the way it should be. And let's not forget the cornbread! Moist, buttery, and absolutely amazing. Our waitress was incredibly kind and did a wonderful job. She was one of only two servers working the entire restaurant, so service was definitely slower than expected for a midweek Thursday lunch. The service was phenomenal. The location is downtown and in a beautiful old brick building. The restaurant has a great layout with a large bar. Great for folks who want to dine at the bar or for folks who just want to have a drink and talk. We got our food to go. One of the reasons that the service was so great that we had 40 minutes before closing and they graciously welcome us in asked what we wanted gave us options. They had a whole conversation with us and it was just really pleasant and sweet and they were a lot of fun. I got the steak and cheese sandwich it was tasty. The fries were great. 1st time at new location . Everyone there was super friendly , friendly greeting , took my drink order and food orders no problems except they forgot my coleslaw. I got the smoked corn and chicken chowder . Was probably the highlight of my meal . So flavorful . But for $12 maybe a little more ? Or some bread to dunk ? Next I got the catfish po-boy , again it was good , not great , but good . Came with a ton of Cajun fries . 2nd best thing . I also ordered a side of Cole-slaw. And let me tell you ! I got a cereal bowl of coleslaw ! About time ! It was good , a little too much mayo . But I finished it , so it wasn't that bad right ! My only complaint, they charged me $4 for the catfish . On the menu it's included . And the menu online says the coleslaw is $4 , I paid $7 for a side of coleslaw . So maybe double check your bill or ask . Back in the day, the original Big Mamou was the place to be! a small, "hole-in-the-wall" spot with phenomenal food. It had maybe eight tables, and you'd wait along the wall for a table to open up. You could even bring your own liquor, and the food was absolutely worth it. Fast-forward to now: a chef who used to work at Big Mamou opened this spinoff. The place is way bigger and has a full bar. We went there for lunch, and I got a catfish po'boy. The food was okay. Not bad, but nothing I'd write home about. I also ordered a drink and asked if it was close to an old-fashioned. The waitress said no, but it literally was an old-fashioned, and I didn't enjoy it. The staff, however, was great very nice and attentive. The chef even made me homemade honey mustard because, let's be honest, I'm a child and have to have honey mustard with my fries. It is my distinct honor and pleasure to be the first Yelp reviewer for the legendary remix of Mamou!!! Ivan you have outdone yourself. First I will tell you Wayne Hooker is a perfectionist. For Ivan to take this icon to this level is divine and genius. The food is, dare I say, better than before! We had a rum punch that the bartender made up on her own. Delicious. It's the only picture I took because after the drink I fell in love again. We ordered the cheesy bread. I had the red beans and rice with sausage and chicken. My table mate had the etuffee with chicken and shrimp. We shared the banana Foster for dessert. Welcome back Mamou! We celebrate your return. P.S I must talk about this space! Mother's Day brunch was delicious! Our server was attentive and if she wasn't sure about something she went to find out. We had the blackened salmon omelet which was served with potatoes, chicken & waffles which didn't disappoint, peach French toast that was sweet as a fresh peach and green eggs and ham that was served with potatoes and a side of toast . Very nice atmosphere and terrific service from pleasant, courteous servers. The food was great - the oysters worthington and blackened chicken with jam rice was stellar. The only two issues were 1.) one of their tables is too close to the serving window, IMO, as the servers have to walk around it when taking out food orders (one group declined to sit there when taken there by a server), and 2.) that their website at the time wasn't taking reservations - the utility was there but when we tried to get a reservation, every day returned as booked. But this is not the case - just call them for a reservation instead. You also may not need one, as there is plenty of seating at tables and at the bar. We'll definitely be returning. read more

The place has been open for a month & it seems it's really gone better than before especially deeming it has the same food options as before but it's even better topped & oh yeah the place also has a full liquor license plus staff can make you whatever you are hoping for. Service is very on point (ran into a couple of ones from the Liberty Street restaurant) and they even had beer really impressed. I opted for simple tap water (no ice even though weather was HHH) and my entree was a ribeye/shrimp BBQ Mamou & dessert was a chocolate bourbon pecan pie & everything was nailed right (bartender made suggestion on how ribeye was for her & took her advice). Ambience is really great & you actually see Bourbon Street in NOLA via a can of sorts and music is still NOLA and maybe they'll include zydeco (for the suggestion box). read more

I went to this restaurant for my 56th birthday with my guy and we had an amazing time! The wait staff was very pleasant and patient with us. We dod not know what to order. Finding a place that was open the afternoon of Christmas Eve by the train station wasn't easy, but Mamou fitted the bill. The servings were huge, the price was reasonable, the food wasn't TOO spicy, and the service was downright ebullient. My wife and I ate hearty, and we look to be back. read more

The Mamou is such a great start, very promising. We had the Cajun Pasta (absolutely amazing), the Papa's Porch Chop (very good, and the bacon jam on top was mind blowing), the Thunder Thighs chicken app (almost like I remembered, and I think the only difference is that there was just less of the spicy cream sauce on it than in the olden days), and the chicken and spinach cakes (insanely tasty, I would eat a barrel full of those). And the Sazerac was a great cocktail. For the "porch" chop, it was tasty, but tough, to cut with the bone. Perhaps the point is a rustic porch feel, and the flavor was there. But I wasn't able to get all the meat off without picking it up and looking like a crazy monster gnawing on a bone. Honestly, no real complaints at all, would just love to see some other old favorites hit the menu (particularly the Bayou Meatloaf, and some more new dishes - both Cajun and latin. I've been to the new version of Chef Wayne's Mamous, 3-4 times since they've open. I liked the former Big Mamou so much I named one of my pets Big Mamous! The wait staff have been fabulous. Well informed and friendly. The food overall good, even though I liked Chef Wayne's gumbo better. The brown sauce in the current gumbo is a bit unattractive, but still tastes good. Their clam cakes are soft and tasty, their corn bread needs improvement. Jambalaya perfect. Still, one particular issue bothers me about the place, and I believe it in violation of Massachusetts gender laws as they apply to bathrooms. There are two restrooms, one labeled Women and the other labeled All Genders. Which clearly excludes men having fair representation. I think the owners erred in allowing this discriminatory labeling, and need to correct it asap. I may boycott further appearances if it is not. Below is a summary of bathroom laws in restaurants in Massachusetts. It could be considered discrimination to label one bathroom "Woman" and exclude men from the other labeled "All Genders," especially in places like Massachusetts where laws protect gender identity use of facilities; generally, restaurants must allow people to use restrooms consistent with their identity, and restricting men from an all-gender option while offering a single-gender one creates unequal access, often prompting all single-occupancy restrooms to be gender-neutral by law or recommendation. Why This Situation Raises Concerns Gender Identity Laws: Many states, including Massachusetts (where this scenario might be relevant), prohibit discrimination based on gender identity in public accommodations, meaning individuals can use facilities aligning with their identity. Everything was as good as it ever was. Our server was quick and knowledgeable . The cheese bread was tasty. My husband had the double cheeseburger which has blackened shrimp on it, and he raved about it. It was huge, and came with seasoned fries. The crawfish etouffee was fantastic. Slightly undercooked celery (as if someone forgot to add it at the beginning) actually added to the dish, as you could taste the celery and it added texture. Forced myself to stop at half so I could eat the rest for lunch the next day. The pecan pie is now a whole pie instead of a slice, which makes it easier to share. It was good, but not quite as good as the old pie. I'm so thrilled Mamou is back, and can't wait to eat there again. read more
