Having a short timeframe (about 3 weeks) to complete my PADI Open Water Diver Certification, I had a hard time finding a dive shop/instructor who could make it happen on my timeline. Lucky for me, Doug picked up the first call I made, and within a day, I was learning SCUBA via the PADI Online Course. The online course is great whether you want to take it slow and memorize everything (like I ended up doing) or quickly complete it before your vacation (while still learning, it emphasizes the important information to memorize via frequent quizzes). On to the dives: Doug and Julie host the confined water dives in their backyard pool and provide all the gear you need, though I highly recommend getting a mask/snorkel/boots/fins that FIT YOU. It's a worthwhile investment. Doug did an amazing job catering the confined dive to one of the students who had anxiety while keeping myself and another student practicing valuable skills. We were able to finish the confined dive material in one session! The open water dives were all completed at Kingman Wash at Lake Mead. If you don't have a vehicle with 4x4/AWD, fear not, the road is drivable. I saw a Mustang make it. The visibility was poor due to summertime algae blooms, but I never feared Doug or Julie would lose sight of our group, they watched and lead us like top-tier instructors. The dive platforms we used for underwater skills were great for establishing neutral buoyancy and practicing the skills we learned in the pool. I recommend staying at the Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino as it's only 20 minutes away (depending on your speed on the dirt road). Doug and Julie didn't stop showing their caring nature when the certifications were signed. They invited all of us to the local dive group, which I look forward to participating in as my diving career takes off. I would recommend Doug and Julie to anyone looking for a PADI cert in Vegas, especially if you're located in the northwest. You won't regret it! read more

I am a certified scuba diver and I took my daughter to Mana Scuba to complete a discover scuba course to see if she wanted to get certified. She attempted a class once before with another instructor but did not complete it. She was VERY nervous and was on the verge of tears even though she really wanted to do it. Julie and Doug were so professional, knowledgeable, patient and kind that they eased all of her fears quickly and she completed the course with a giant grin on her face. She now wants to move forward with the actual certification! I am eternally grateful to these two for taking the time to help her through her fears and open up this beautiful underwater world to her. Mana Scuba is the bomb! You get great teaching from the instructors (mine was Julie) while also getting hooked up with a really cool community that regularly goes out on scuba trips and lots more (kayaking, hiking, etc.) You'll have plenty of opportunities to get in more scuba time with really cool people! Julie is awesome because she was encouraging when I struggled initially with fear/anxiety once I got into the water. I personally needed an extra pool session to get the skills down, and Julie was understanding and encouraging while working with me. She is passionate about scuba and wants everyone to succeed if they truly want to. Both Doug and Julie will work with you if you need more time. I decided to get my certification for an upcoming trip to Mexico. Once I got my certification, Julie helped me get connected with scuba shops in the destination I was traveling to. I had an AMAZING experience with Julie! I was certified and went on 2 dives after certification in Tahoe a couple years ago at this point. On Sunday night I was challenged to get back in the water before Monday night. A challenge that Julie was more than willing to take on with me first thing in the morning! I thought the hard part was over once she made the schedule fit; boy was I wrong! I didn't realize how rusty I was going to be after the break between dives. My husband and I decided to go with Mana Scuba to get our PADI open water certifications and we had a wonderful experience. We contacted them at the end of October and were able to do everything in about a month. We did the lake dives at Lake Mead and although it was cold, it was tolerable with all of the gear they provide. From the beginning, Doug and Julie were very accommodating and flexible. Doug was able to meet me near my house one day to deliver the books and then they worked around my work schedule to do the class and dives. Julie and Doug were also very patient with me when I struggled with some of the skills. At the lake, they treated us like family! They brought a heater and had soup ready for us in between the dives. They also brought other divers who were friendly and gave us helpful pointers. My only complaint would be regarding the chlorine levels at the pool where we did the pool skills (Water World Scuba). The pool was extremely chlorinated! The bathing suit I wore under the wet suit was discolored and I could not get the smell of chlorine out of my hair or skin for days. Although it was not the instructors fault that the shop over chlorinated the pool the night before, I think that is something that can be avoided with better communication between them and the shop. Overall, I would highly recommend getting certified with them. They are knowledgeable, professional, reasonably priced, and they don't make you drive all the way down to Lake Havasu, Arizona to do the open water dives. read more

I came to Mana Scuba to get my kids certified in open water diving. My sons are 10 and 13.
