First time trying Taste of India and overall, it was a really good experience and we'll definitely be back. We started with the sampler pakoras, which was perfect for a first visit because you get a little bit of everything, vegetable samosa, vegetable pakora, paneer pakora, and chicken pakora. Honestly just a great way to try a mix without overthinking it, and everything came out fresh and really good. For mains, we ordered the chicken tikka masala at medium heat, and I'd say it definitely leans more mild. It was good, but didn't quite have the depth or spice I personally look for in a tikka masala. It almost ate more like a tomato-based dish rather than that rich, bold flavor I usually expect. Still enjoyed it, just not as flavorful as I was hoping for. We also got the tandoori mixed grill with sheikh kabab, tandoori chicken, and tandoori shrimp, and that was a great call, especially with garlic naan. Probably my favorite part of the meal and a really good option if you want to try a few different things. Service was super fast even though the place was busy, and everything just felt really taken care of, waters stayed filled, to-go boxes came out right away, no waiting around for anything. It's no way close to any Indian dish I have had before and I am an Indian who can cook. Food was tasteless, just added loads of cream to every dish spoiling the taste completely. All the entrees we ordered was so bad and tasteless that we could hardly eat anything and trashed most of it. Tandoori Roti was pathetic, I bet prisoners get better food in jail. Taste of India is my go to place to order consistently wonderful Indian food. I have yet to visit in person, but every single time I place a delivery order the food has been correct, hot and on time. There are a plethora of menu options, surely to satisfy everyone's desired flavor profiles. My go to order is the Chicken Korma, Paneer Kulcha, and Mango Lassi. The Chicken Korma is tender, the sauce is super creamy as well as flavorful with that signature nutty fruity mixture. The Paneer Kulcha is also wonderful, it has just the right amount of cheese in it that it's not greasy. Lastly, the Mango Lassi, it is very mango, but still remains rich and yogurty. The food was incredible! It was my first experience with Indian food and it was everything I could have wanted. We ordered online and the food was still hot and fresh by the time we got home with it. I can't speak for the customer service in the restaurant, but the interaction while picking up was short, quick, and pleasant. Was craving Indian food and came across this place! Prices are reasonable and quantity was big! We shared an entree of chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala, a garlic naan and samosas among 3 people and it was more than enough. Authentic flavors! We often come here when we're in town for work, and it's always such a great experience. It's been a few months since our last visit to Taste of India, but I had the chicken tikka masala and one of my coworkers ordered the salmon tikka masala--which I'd never even heard of before--and wow, it was so good! I still think about it. The staff here is incredibly warm and welcoming, but especially Tanin (I really hope she's still here--we're coming back later this month and she was such a bright light! I gave an extra star to make it 3 stars due to the environment being very welcoming ,and workers being friendly and helpful. As far as the food goes... I probably won't be returning. It was very blah and not worth what I paid (over $100). Their tikka masala's are very soupy and they do not add much meat. It's like they compensate the lack of meat with sauce to where you might not "notice" that you are not getting what you paid for. The naan bread was not good. They were more burnt than anything and not fluffy. I ordered two different desserts that were not good. Their deep fried appetizers seemed to be overly cooked and the oil tastes old. Another Indian food spot on travel. Reviews were good and pictures looked right so placed an order for pickup. The chicken korma was delicious with chunks of white meat and a fantastic sauce. The butter chicken was also very good. Not the best I've had but excellent. This had sliced chicken thighs. Lots of rice provided for both. The vegetable pakoras was also very tasty. The garlic naan was exceptionally delicious. Not sure why this was full on double the price of regular naan though. Usually only a buck or two more. Guess that's the Alaskan pretty scenery tax. Walked in the front door to retrieve my food and they must have been busy as I was not the only one waiting for pickup. I went there looking for a specific Indian dish that I had in Peru. I don't know what the dish was called but because I had 2 hungry boys at home I tried three different dishes. Butter Chicken Chicken Malai Curry And Chicken Tikka Masala All medium spicy. I'm one of those people with super taste and smell senses and I couldn't really taste much difference. I think it was all out of the same batch and they just added a little more coconut to the butter chicken and a little more spice to the Chicken Tikka Masala. It was all pretty good regardless. I wish i could like this restaurant. Love indian food & this is closest to home, BUT.... every time ive tried the food, i feel really ill afterword. maybe the oil they use is old, maybe they add some additive to every dish i react to ( i dont generally have food allergies but i dont do well if there is lots of wheat). This restaurant was closest to where we were staying. It's located in a complex so there's ample parking. Service is friendly and they are very accommodating and customizations are generally honored. The ambiance is ok nothing much to talk about. Decent Indian food with clearly labeled vegan options and better prices/portions than other Indian places in town. We stopped in for dinner on a Wed night. We ordered three vegan dishes, each coming with rice, plus some tandoori roti. We got two dishes "hot" and one "medium", which wasn't too much to take for us. It took about 45 minutes for the food to come out (for some reason, it takes forever to get food in Anchorage). We got: -Yellow dal ($14.95; vegan) -- this was a very watery dish and lacking flavour depth. The flavours were correct, balanced and nicely calibrated, but it was just a bit too watery and bland. 2.5/5 -Mixed sabjee ($14.95; vegan) -- a bit watery, but had a strong flavour profile that centred on cinnamon. This dish came with potato, cauliflower, green beans and carrot. I hadn't had a dish quite like this. The flavour seemed sharp and a bit abrasive, but decent enough. 3/5 -Bhindi bhaji ($15.95; vegan) -- this was easily the best dish of the meal, being fairly dry and nicely spiced, cooked with lots of fried whole garlic and onions. Just found my favorite Indian restaurant! Sooo happy Taste of India opened! I enjoyed everything I tried and can't wait to go back and try the next set. The restaurant is bright and clean and I felt super comfortable inside. The prices are a little on the steeper end but the food was so good that I think it was well worth the price. The staff was sincere, pleasant, helpful, and asked for feedback, which is awesome! Since Taste of India is new, I had to do the thing and try half the menu and I'm super happy about it. Keep reading for a description of each item I tried. The salted lassi is a perfect balance of salt and spice with an abundance of cumin seeds. It was Thick and creamy instead of watered down like at many other places. Sampler pakoras were cooked to a perfect crisp and served with mint and tamarind sauce. The samosas were so flavorful! The vegetable pakora was a little salty. The paneer was fried in a stick instead of cubes. The garlic naan was cooked perfectly - it was a somewhat thin/flat but perfect crispy bottom and top part that enveloped the soft layer between. Only suggestion for improvement would be to not have burnt garlic on top because it had such a strong and kind of overwhelming flavor. The lamb vindaloo was ordered mild and had some heat. The lamb was cooked through and well trimmed but still tender. There were lots of cilantro bits throughout gave it a fresh look and flavor. Y'all. This butter chicken might be the best butter chicken I've ever had. The sauce was thick, creamy, not too sweet, yummmm! The menu says the chicken is shredded but it's just sliced not cubed. Matar paneer was delicious! The cardamom was really forward and I loved it! Gulab jamun was firm and slightly chewy but not hard. Went here tonight for dinner. It's in a dingy strip mall with lots of pot holes. At first glance the place is neat and clean. Staff was very friendly. I ordered the dinner combo with meat and veggie. The combo is essentially a thali but not your regular appetizing thali. It comes with rice and daal makhani and then I chose a protein entree and a vegetarian entree. I got butter chicken and palak paneer with regular naan. The chicken was not good and I could tell it was not fresh. The palak paneer was fresh but bland. The daal was the best part. The naan was even the better part. Definitely get their naan, so fresh and buttery. Maybe if I had tried something else I'd have liked it better but with three items on my plate I was not overly impressed. With that being said, their to go business is hopping. It's an ok option if you're in the area and craving Indian food. I went with the medium spice level but I definitely should've done hot. They offer mild, medium hot. read more

I'm English so i love Indian food, and Anchorage just doesn't have enough of it, so when i saw this new one, i thought "ooh er, here we go" I could not wait. So off we go. I order a mixed platter of pakoras, garlic naan, vegetable biryani, and the husband orders garlic chicken. Wow!! There were so many varieties of pakora in this mixed platter, and they were delicious, and there was a lot in there. If you're not very hungry, you could get the pakoras and the mixed naans and call it a night lol. It came with three dips, and I'm not certain which dip was supposed to be used with which item, so i dipped everything into everything, and it all tasted sublime. The garlic naan was perfect, and deliciously imbued with lots of divine garlic. I was eating like a savage just scooping up my biryani with naan bread, like i knew how to do it. The biryani was richly studded with a good variety of vegetables, and masterfully spiced. I found a clove, and a cinnamon stick, which screams authenticity to me, i just love that!! I must confess that biryani is, and always has been, my go to indian dish, but I've tried other dishes, i just always come back to this. After tonight's debacle of a date night, I kind of wish we'd went back here again. Indian spicing is just so stunning, and flavourful, and i think i could live off it. I would like if they got some onion Bhajis on the menu, those things are bomb, especially when dipped in raita. I can see this becoming a favourite haunt. read more

More competition in the Indian food segment is exactly what this town needs! Taste of India has prices that are almost exactly the same as Namaste Shangri-La...meaning they are reasonably affordable. (and WAY lower than Mandala) I got the Lamb Vindaloo for takeout and, while I wish it was hotter (I got it "hot"), it was still hotter than most Indian eateries (or any eateries for that matter) will make their food in Anchorage so, kudos to them! We also got some garlic naan and the garlic flavor was over-the-top, in a good way! I got punched in the mouth with potent garlic, and I definitely liked it. (hope my girlfriend don't mind it) Give "Taste" a shot! Let's hope we get some nice Indian food competition going! read more

Best Indian in Anchorage! I'd been recommended other Indian restaurants and was never all that impressed, but finally I found the spot. The chicken tikka masala was one of the best I've ever had - the chicken was pounded flat, so succulent and not dry as it can be. Starting with a small pot of piping hot chai for two, this place was terribly undersold by other reviewers. The mixed tandoori grill came out on a sizzler plate, smoking and popping, with kebab, chicken, shrimp, and veggies. Naan portion was massive and perfect for pinching the creamy palak paneer between the fingers. Vindaloo at "medium" was not spicy enough for my Canadian dining companion, so order it full steam. The papadum cracker item was the perfect scoop for the bits of curry soaked rice and was accompanied with 2 sauces that we used on the tandoori. The difference between Taste of India and the rest is that each dish seems to have been made fresh, not scooped out of a crock pot and re-heated. Frankly it's not Indian food at all by taste and flavor, seems the flavors are customized according to local favorites. Chana masala, dal makhani were no where close to how original food tastes. It was like a common tomato based gravy with same tanginess and not completely cooked spices, raw garlic could be felt. Medium hot was more like a mild with minimal seasoning and spices.
