Lunch special country green beans with beef (a special order)
    Peter M.

There is something to be said about a mom and pop establishment that has survived, for over several decades, through thick and thin times. Mandarin King, is a Chinese restaurant in Northridge, that is one of those eateries. It has a huge menu, enveloping numerous dining categories, to satisfy any Asian taste. The choices are endless, the portions are large. While the interior dining room is not decadent, it is well appointed with Chinese decor, to make you feel invited and comfortable. Food portions are large and delicious. Mandarin King has a loyal clientele (dine in and carry out) that has been coming here for years. I am one of those customers. While I have tried several of their numerous dishes, none of them have disappointed. However, I have repeatedly ordered (to go) their fish with black bean sauce. Another of my favorites is their Mongolian Beef. Their rendition of this dish is attractive to me due to its abundance of onions (scallions, white) and the tender slices of beef with a mild but satisfying flavored sauce. So it was once again, the choice for this take out visit. It lived up to its reputation. On this occasion, the lunch special with fried rice and an egg roll. Both lovely too. Service here is dependable, always warm, welcoming, courteous and timely.

My mom wanted crab with bean sauce but they did not have it. You have to order it in advance a few days before. Service was cool and the atmosphere was ok. They need to update furniture and rugs. It's outdated. Parking is easy in the lot adjacent to the restaurants. The food was very flavorful and the quality of what we ordered had nice big quantities. Prices are affordable for all the food you get.

Love this almond cookie that comes with my lunch special! I got the shrimp with white wine sauce. My favorite!

My favorite take out. Get the shrimp with white wine sauce. It's $15.95 and so good! This place is OLD school vintage vibe$ Dine in if you have the time. Love their homemade almond cookie that comes with lunch take out!

This isn't the fanciest place around but it's reliable , large portions and good. We had the beef and broccoli which had large chunks of beef. We also ordered beef fried rice and egg drop soup.. Food was good all around- no complaints with anything we tried. Service was extremely fast. Once we had our orders in , food came out very quickly. The quality of everything was pretty solid, and serving sizes were large. The prices here are very reasonable .

Does MK have any low sodium dishes?

Yes, I've had many of their dishes with garlic sauce, light salt or even steamed! Not everything is soy sauce based. Just let the server know! Hope you give it a shot and enjoy!

Parking can be an issue, but we usually find a parking spot in the back. We dine there often when we visit the area. The servers are friendly, and our orders have always been served hot. There has never been any wait to be seated, and the wait for our food has always been minimal. Their menu offers a wide variety of choices, and with a few exceptions, none of the dishes we have ordered have been disappointing. The portions are more than substantial. On this visit, we ordered from the "A - Family Dinner" and selected shrimp with lobster sauce, peppered beef with mushrooms, and a side of Kung Pao spicy shrimp. The Kung Pao spicy shrimp was a disappointment because it was not spicy at all (delicious, but not spicy). It also comes with paper-wrapped chicken, rice, and soup of choice. Overall, I would recommend it.

I'm a bit surprised at all the low ratings but, I'm happy I decided to give this small business a try. I placed an order online through their website, and placed an order for pick up. The pick up time was 45 mins, which was a bit high, but we were okay with that because we ordered early enough, and the food was worth the wait. Once we arrived, we found parking in the back, so I entered from there, mentioned my name, picked it up, and went home to enjoy it. The place itself looked a bit dated but was a cute little restaurant. I wouldn't mind eating inside the next time around. We ordered the cheese rangoon for our appetizer, I got the beef lomein for myself, and my boyfriend got the Kung Pao Chicken. It came with rice which was nice. The total was $45 with taxes, which was reasonable given the potion size and quality. It took us two days to finish it. All the food was flavorful, fresh, and delicious. I will definitely be ordering from here again!

I even drove a bit out of my way to come here, only to find a "closed" sign on the door. I truly hope everything is okay with the owners and staff, but it was disappointing that there wasn't any notice or backup plan for unexpected closures. From what I could see through the window, the restaurant looked very clean and well-kept. I'll definitely want to try again another time but will certainly call first!!!!

A pain he still feels even today. They had the best Braised Beef Noodle Soup ever! Frankenstein went hook, line, and sinker when he read the Yelp hype about this place. Bottom line, nice people, not as awesome as was described. Braised Beef Noodle Soup- Sorry Noodles Kitchen but it's too chili hot. About a 8.5 to 9 on Frankensteins too hot scale. Beef was okay, not great. Noodles were good. Bride of Frankenstein had one taste and pushed it away. "Mucho Caliente" Orange Chicken, fine. Let's not go overboard everyone. Pan Fried Dumplings, good. Be careful and double-check the prices you're being charged here…read more The menu board clearly lists the Special Bowl for $7.99, but I was originally charged about $3 more than the advertised price. When I pointed out the price discrepancy to the cashier, she lowered the price by $1, but she still did not charge me the advertised $7.99 price. My receipt ended up showing $9.07. What bothered me most is that even after I specifically pointed out that the price did not match what was posted on their menu board, I was still charged more. Just be aware when paying and make sure you double-check your receipt against the prices displayed on their menu.
