I had a Costco chicken in the fridge, trying to figure out what to do to "jazz it up". It's been a minute since I've had pad see ew so I thought I'd track some down in the Northridge area. I'd seen JTC for many years but, if I'm being honest, figured it would be overpriced, given its location. I tried ordering ahead via their website, but ended up calling so I could customize the order. I wanted JUST the pad see ew, no protein added, which wasn't an option on the website. Not a problem when I called. The gentleman who answered confirmed exactly what I wanted. When I arrived, the parking lot was a bit chaotic bcuz 7pm on a Saturday, in a plaza with lots of dining options, what could I expect? But I found a 10 min spot open and walked in to grab my order, which was waiting for me. A quick peak inside revealed the lovely appointed tables and pleasant decor I would be skipping for pjs and a couch. So, for what I wanted, it was fine. Jasmin Thai Porter Ranch!!! What happened?? I hadn't been here in a while and decided to visit for dinner. The flavors are still on point, and the overall quality and portion size seem good, but the protein was SERIOUSLY lacking " Where's the Beef?" The beef and chicken portions compared to the noodles were disappointing. We literally found ourselves searching through the dishes for small, scattered pieces of meat. It just didn't feel balanced like it used to. I understand that costs are rising everywhere, but I really hope they can bring back the more generous protein portions of protein they used to serve. Plenty of free self parking in the shopping plaza, but the closest ones are always taken by the Starbucks customers. Venue 4 stars: Larger, modern and nicely decorated restaurant. Not a hole in the wall. Service 4 stars: Friendly and efficient service. Food 4 stars: Excellent Thai fare. We ordered the Crab Fried Rice, the Panang Curry, the Pineapple Shrimp Curry, the Red Curry, and the Spicy Eggplant. White rice is included with most of the main plates. Everything we had was tasty and highly recommended. I'd like to go back and try their other dishes as most everything on the menu seemed very appetizing. They do also have a few desserts including the traditional Mango with Sticky Rice but we did not have any room left to try any. Hopefully next time! Food prices were reasonable. Drinks 3.5 stars: The Yelp page says that they have beer and wine but all I saw on their menu were soft drinks, Thai Tea and Coffee, Iced Tea, Hot Tea and Sodas. I spent around $40 on food at this restaurant and unfortunately, the customer service completely ruined my experience. When I arrived to pick up my Uber Eats order, the woman at the front desk told me that the dumplings I had ordered were unavailable. She said I could get egg rolls instead. I honestly did not want the egg rolls, but since I had already placed the order through Uber Eats for pickup, I went ahead and replaced the dumplings with the egg rolls. After that, I asked for two sides of plum sauce. She made a big issue out of giving me the sauce and acted as though I was asking for something unreasonable. I even offered to pay for the extra sauce, but she still had an attitude. She told me the plum sauce does not come with what I ordered, which I understand, but I was simply asking to purchase or receive two extra sauces. I like eating plum sauce with my Pad Thai, so I don't see why this needed to become an issue. Also, what was I supposed to dip my egg rolls in? At one point, I asked her if she was walking away while I was still talking to her because she was being dismissive. She then went to talk to her coworkers, and I could see them staring at me. I waited for her to come back to the front and asked her directly if there was a problem. Her attitude toward me was extremely nasty and unprofessional. The whole interaction was over two sides of plum sauce. She acted like the cost of the sauce was coming directly out of her own checking account. I had already spent over $40 at the restaurant and was willing to pay for the sauce, so the attitude was completely unnecessary. Im a regular here and have spent hundreds on food here and the Woodland Hills location the last couple months as well as recommending to others. I only get the tom Kha soup and chicken satay. I came to pick it up the other day and don't live close, I live all the way in Palmdale and came to pick up food. I get home and the soup first of all was not filled all the way, second it looked blackish in color. I opened it and it REEKED of mushrooms, I have complained in previous reviews that they put too much mushroom and less chicken but this time was different - the mushrooms were a different type of black looking mushroom I had not seen the other times and I always get spicy 5 but this time it was not eatable, it was like level 9/10 spice and all it tasted like was those nasty black mushrooms - it was horrible. I actually gagged and recoiled out of disgust and was like oh idk if they hired a new cook or what went wrong but this is not the dish I usually order and I threw it out, it was that bad and it STUNK. I was already back home in Palmdale at that point and could not drive all the way to Porter ranch to ask for a refund so I called and let the guy know, he was very dismissive and said "well you ordered a spicy level 5" - what about whatever else I mentioned and about the mushrooms which you completely ignored...It's not eatable, he took my info but I knew he wasn't taking it serious and wouldn't relay my info to get a refund (I placed my order online via toast tab, you should have no issues refunding me as I did NOT get what I paid for and I spent $60) I called back a few min this time a woman answered and I could tell she was just telling the same guy and they were both laughing in the background making sure I could hear. She gives the phone to him and he very rudely says didn't we just speak - I said yes but I would really like for this to be taken serious and for the owners to refund me, the rest of the food is fine, I just want the soup refunded he said he can't and the owners would get back to me, 2 days have passed and no one has gotten back to me and they have no plans to by the looks of it. The soup was $15.50+ Tax and I didn't get what I paid for, idk who dared to make that and what corners they were trying to cut but that was not the soup I normally get..that's UNACCEPTABLE in this economy. The sauce that comes with the satay was off too but I ignored that. Process my refund for the item or I will be going through my bank. What's wrong is wrong. Both of these dishes were certainly worth the price and with generous portion sizes. So we just ordered some appetizers and drinks but alas their menu needs to be updated because some of the things we ordered were no longer available and the prices went up so their menu iwas very misleading. It was such a letdown not being able to satisfy our cravings. The plus point is they're open until 2am and the server was attentive. There was a funky smell when we entered the place, must be from the spice they use and I don't think they are aware of this. Tonight I ordered Tom Kha Noodle soup, Mongolian Beef and Green Curry chicken. The beef is bad. It smelled funny and I knew better than to take a bite, but did anyway. Definitely rotten beef. Tom Kha noodle soup didn't have noodles in it. All it had was chicken and the broth tasted like vinegar. Asked for Green Curry Chicken at level 3 spiciness, it was a 1, if that. This one has messed up on me for the third and last time not only did they mess up my order meaning it was dry overcooked when I confronted them with it they would not give him my money back because I have waited two days, but I have the receipt in the unopened and unused portion so don't go back. I feel indifferent about the customer service. There were times it was challenging to get their attention and there were times that we asked for jalapenos and spicy sauces and they served it to us in mini to go plastic containers which I thought was a little strange, considering we were dining inside the restaurant. After dining there several times we noticed that the food quality and service was inconsistent. Since then, many Thai restaurants in the vicinity provided better alternatives. That was a while back. However, I decided to give it another try and ordered a carry out of the "heavenly pepper and garlic" lunch special, with beef as my choice of protein. It comes with salad and an egg roll. The description is presumptuous, the beef was chewy and lacked intensity and depth of flavor, with hardly any pepper or garlic. I wish the sauce would have been a little bit thicker, the crab fried rice is ok, i've had better. however the pad thai was a disappointment!
