I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and I should have written a review a long time ago. Their Chinese food has been consistently good and tasty. The owners, Jerry and James are brothers. I know that they don't look at reviews but I still want everyone to know that Jerry is a very warm hearted person who likes to please his customers. Service is good and price is right. Lots of people go there for take out because the ambience is not modern and maybe not a place to take your date. They have a room that accommodates 80 people. I've been coming to Mandarin King ever since I was a little kid. At least 26 years now! The food has always been amazing and I've never had a bad experience. My family always orders shrimp fried rice, Mongolian beef, pan fried noodles, walnut shrimp, and tangerine chicken. Their sweet and sour fish, crab, and lobster are too! We've had many family functions here to celebrate the ups and downs of life. Jerry and his staff are kind and hospitable. Take out or dinner inside is never a disappointment. Their food remains the same in quality which is really nice. I have never had food from there that is terrible. I get my standard dishes there and they are always consistently good. I have had better Chinese food most definitely, but if you want Chinese food from a place that is reliable, still very tasty, and just want to fill that craving for it, these are one of the places you can go to. The prices are pretty standard especially during these times of inflation and COVID. By far, my favorite hot and sour soup of any Chinese restaurant I've been to. I compare any other hot and sour soup I've had to Mandarin King's and there simply isn't a single one I've found near or far that's better than or even close to as good as theirs. Full of flavor. Hearty. And so much deliciousness in each spoonful. I typically get a large order meant to serve multiple people entirely for myself and then take home the leftovers -- if there are any! My husband and I have been coming here for years -- over a decade at this point -- and Mandarin King has never ever failed us. We went today as is Christmas tradition and, despite the fact that they were obviously slammed, the waitstaff did their very best to be as accommodating as possible. The broccoli beef my husband and I shared was excellent as always. Almost *especially* good being that it was Christmas. The complimentary wonton chips were perfect and we even grabbed a side of hot mustard to dip them in alongside the sweet and sour sauce. Take caution, though, the hot mustard can and will clear your sinuses! Not for the faint of heart. We honestly and truly love this place. The food, service, and ambience are always on point and it's totally worth the drive from Santa Clarita. The SFV is void of good, authentic Chinese cuisine. The few Chinese restaurants in the Valley are either pan-Asian or cater more towards the non-Asian palate. Mandarin King is the latter, but there were a few dishes my parents and I enjoyed when we were here this past weekend. FOOD: Complimentary Fried Wonton Strips: Meh. I didn't bother with it, but my parents enjoyed snacking on them. Mongolian Beef: Average. While the beef was tender and the dish had some flavor, the dish was heavy on the onions (green and white). I highly recommend adding chili paste (with the oil) for a salty and spicy kick as this was not spicy at all; the chili paste made this a lot more enjoyable. Beef Fried Rice: Average. The light soy sauce added a nice color to the rice, but that's really it. It's your basic fried rice--rice, eggs, onions, and green peas--with a few slices of beef thrown in; the beef was light in color, which we didn't like. Pork "Soft Noodles": Below average. The noodles were too soft for our liking and lacked flavor. Like the beef mentioned above, the pork was light in color; this is probably due to the coating of corn starch. Bean Curd Country Style (no meat): Very good. The brown sauce was not overpowering, while the silken tofu was tasty and lightly fried. We opted for no meat, which was great since the plate came with a nice serving of baby bok choy. String Beans in White Garlic Sauce: Good. The string beans were fresh, crisp, and not drenched in sauce. It's hard to mess up this simple dish. Crispy Pork Chops w/ Salt, Pepper, Onion, and Jalapenos: Good. Each piece was surprisingly tender, which made this a family favorite. We also liked how well-seasoned the pork chops were; there was just enough salt and pepper coating to add flavor. SERVICE: Everyone here was very friendly to my family, which we all appreciated. The elderly gentleman who took our order--he is bald on the top and wears black glasses--even gave us complimentary steamed white rice to go with our order. My wife came home raving about the food at MK after having it at her cousins home. After driving 25 minutes, we got there. The place shows it's 30+ year's and is in dire need of a makeover, but very friendly service. We ordered fried dumplings (9.0), the mandarin rice (8.0), combination flat thick noodles (8.0), and bbq pork (9.0)- all very healthy portions. The pork dumplings were awesome- not just made with filler. The other star of the show was the bbq pork- super tasty and even better the next day. My wife loved the fried rice and I thought the noodles had a great taste to it. This will probably be our go-to Chinese but we will "take out" because we live 7 miles away which is out of their delivery range. No other delivery service is used. read more

Small business and family-owned! Christmas was insane at this restaurant--they're completely short staffed, and yet they were taking online orders + seating people inside. I'm giving them 3 stars for trying to make it work and 5 stars for making delicious food (avg this review to 4 stars), but unfortunately you lose out on the service and hospitality for taking more orders than you can handle. And, you can tell the staff was extremely stressed. Plan ahead management! Typically, restaurants who are family-owned have a quota per hour to prevent overpromising to their customers. This restaurant was taking orders throughout the day, and stopped only when they realized they couldn't manage anymore. Hence, the wait time for several orders were missed by 2-3 hours, if not longer. At one point, they had at least 20 people waiting in the lobby for their food. For major holidays (like Christmas), where families are looking to spend time together, I suggest to management to set quotas for each time slot, so that you're not overwhelming the staff. For example, 5-7 customer orders per each hour. And if you do NOT have a time slot available anymore, you can tell your customers the next available time slot. This means the kitchen is not cooking for anymore than that, especially if you're short staffed. Don't chew more than you can eat!! It's bad management and planning. I've managed restaurants in the past, and I highly suggest management to consider this for all major holidays moving forward to prevent losing repeat customers. There is so much potential for this restaurant to be great! Don't stress out your employees. read more

This place is a gem. The decor needs updating, the booths are kind of worn but I like it because we've been going here for years. Time and time again they do not disappoint. We ordered the Kung psi shrimp(my favorite) and the vegetable medley in brown sauce with added tofu. This place has some really great food and made quick and fresh. They start the meal with hot tea, and friend wanton with a dipping sauce. When ordering some dishes rice is included at no additional cost. The shrimp is delicious and the portions are huge. The tofu dish is really good too and just great when you're in the mood for some Chinese. It's about $10-15 per person but well worth it. The meal is finished with a fortune cookie and some kind of fruit to freshen the palate. Don't let the decor take away from the food. This place is always a repeat for us! read more

I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a young girl. It's been there for a long time and I'm happy they're still here. It's a family owned restaurant and the workers are amazing. They know us by name and treat us very well every time we come to eat. The food is delicious. We always get the three flavors sizzling rice soup, Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Mandarin Soft Noodles, and fried fish with spicy garlic sauce. It's always a delicious meal. We are a family of 5 and we always have leftovers for the next day! This is the first time I've heard of this place and thought I'd try it out since I was craving Chinese food and it had 4 out of 5 stars. It was hard to find it since there were no lights on any of the songs indicating that it was the restaurant and when I walked in the front doors trying to order Togo, it had this fishy smell and the people who walked in behind me were assisted first. I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't Asian and they were but I waited in the lobby for 15 minutes with still no one asking me if I needed help even with someone sitting behind the front desk. When I had friends over during the Memorial day weekend we ordered some take out I only ordered from here because it was the ONLY Chinese place that was open on Memorial Day (my normal Chinese place was unfortunately closed). I ordered and went to go pick it up with one of my friends. My friend went into go pick it up and he said the man inside who gave him the order was very friendly. You know that smell when you get take out and the waft of yummy goodness goes through your car and your mouth is watering because you are excited to get home and eat? Well it did NOT happen on this trip. The Lo Mein noodles were very very very oily and very mushy (like they had ben over cooked). We ordered a few other entrees and the vegetables and meats were very very over cooked so they were either too dry or too mushy and again everything was very oily. The portions are very generous but that really doesn't matter when the food and the quality really aren't that good. We ended up with a lot of leftover which is generally a good thing because then leftovers...but these leftover just sat in the fridge and I need up throwing them away. I am sorry that it wasn't good at all I wanted another place (besides my other favourite in Northridge) that I could get some good Chinese food from...the search continues. read more
