We had got the 4 Piece Vegetable Egg Rolls and it was amazing, Crispy Walnut Shrimp was a 2/5, and Orange Chicken, and Chicken Fried Rice were gross. Food was ok. Portions are bad. Why pay around 7-10 dollars for a plate of chow mein when I can get a better deal at another place. So this is the story: Grandmother had to go to Venice family clinic just across the street. I was starving so I stopped by here. It's a small area, but has "bar seating" and about 5 tables. Originally I just wanted to look at a menu so I can scout out my options. I was greeted by an Asian gentleman probably in his 20's with messy hair and glasses. He asked "for here or to go." I informed him that I was just looking at the menu, to which he was persistent "for here or to go." My answer you ask? For here. I sat down, I had so many questions but my server was nowhere to be found. Eventually he came, I ordered the mixed chow mein (I know it has a different name but I can't recall it) with chicken, beef and shrimp. He takes the menu away and walks away. As I look around I notice they have this chart with the Chinese signs on them. Found out I am a rooster and I'm compatible with the Ox and snake... interesting. Food wasn't long, probably 6 minutes. I look down at my plate and I felt disappointed. Small portion... really small portion... now, let's recall to what I ordered "chow mein mixed with shrimp, beef and chicken" As I ate my food, I actually counted to see how much shrimp they had placed, only three... probably the size of a quarter. Food was just ok... it isn't breathtaking or the best food I've ever had. After I was done I waited for approximately 10-15 minutes for my waiter to come back and check up on me. After almost 15 mins, I walked up and payed. It is safe to say they need work on their customer service. The Mongolian chicken was all onions and just a few pieces of chicken, and the sauce -- thin and runny. And the sweet & sour pork was so tough we could barely chew it. NO. The rice was dry and tasted like Uncle Ben's Instant Rice. The peas they added was still frozen! And they didn't put enough meat in it! The Orange Chicken was dry and overly fried. Mandarin Chinese is the type of chinese delivery that can become a regular favorite tradition. We received a door pamphlet 3 years ago and have been regulars ever since. We have actually never been to the location, but have loved the delicious and reasonably priced food from Mandarin for years. Our favorites are: -California rolls- they are one of the best we have ever had- so fresh and delicious -Crispy walnut shrimp- my mom told me it reminded her of her favorite place in Chinatown when she lived in NYC -Mushu chicken with amazing Hosin sauce -The garlic sauce on the chicken and mixed vegetables is also very tasty While I can't speak to the in dining experience, I can tell you we love this delivery place and are shocked it is rated so low. This is our go to delivery Chinese restaurant. They are fine with substitutions (like no added garlic or adding broccoli) with small or no charge. My favorites are the Kung pao tofu and hot and sour soup. Husband loves their cashew chicken (he's very picky about chicken being decent quality and cooked well). For appetizers we love the cream cheese wontons or vegetable tempura. When they give you a delivery time they usually come way before the time! With delivery and tip we usually only pay around $30 which is amazing for such great quality and speed and any delivery in Santa Monica. read more

really? people liked this place?! sure it's ultra cheap Chinese food that also has "sushi," but come on people, it's pretty bad. we ordered in at the office since everyone was sick of California chicken and it came pretty quick. we got sesame chicken, sweat n sour chicken, fried rice, some seafood delight, and a few other random items. but all of it was oily, shimmering in the light in a very unnatural way. most of the fried meats in different sauces were 90% batter. i had more than a few big chunks of whatever that were solid batter and oil. i would have thought this a normal fast food Chinese place but somehow they gave us sushi too. no one ordered it so it was by mistake or maybe to entice us to try it. bad move for them! there was a tuna roll and California roll. the California roll was they type of thing you'd get at 7-11. and yes some 7-11s sell sushi and it was like this. the tuna though, oh man. it was so bad! had no fish flavor and resemblance to fish. i unrolled one of the pieces and tried just the fish and i had to spit it out! it just didn't taste right. why even sell sushi? just be a cheap Chinese place. oh well, our office will never order from here again. read more

It's the day after Thanksgiving and the handful of poor fools who opted to work today get treated to Chinese food for lunch on the company. Score, right? Oh wait. I just had my one cheat day last night and boy did I really cheat. After a sodium and sugar filled holiday, my body desperately craving nothing but a gallon of water, what could possibly be one of the worst things to eat but saucy, heavy Chinese food? Although super abbreviated, there IS a "Health Conscious" section in the menu where the dishes are steamed without oil, starch, sugar or salt and come with garlic or sweet and sour sauce on the side (....pretty sure sweet and sour sauce is full of sugar). The options are 1. Mixed Vegetable Delight, 2. Chicken & Mixed Vegetable Delight, 3. Shrimp & Mixed Vegetable Delight. I picked the shrimp with mixed veggies (broccoli, mushroom, carrot, snow peas) and only ate about 1/3 of the container before being completely stuffed. For $11 it's definitely a good portion size with a decent protein to vegetable ratio so I was able to successfully stick to my normal diet routine. read more

The best Asian delivery food we've ever had. I was surprised to log in here and see the low reviews... maybe new management?? We ordered their cheese fried wontons, wonton soup, Seafood Delight special and an Alaska roll. We killed it all and both loved it. Additionally, the woman who took my order was efficient and nice, the food came in 30 minutes and even the presentation of everything was really well done. I recently ordered from the Chinese side of the menu. There is no delivery fee, but there is a minimum of $15 order to deliver. It does not say this on the site, but all in all, everything is pretty cheap, so you just get more food for you money! They said 30 minutes, and it came in 15! The food itself was pretty decent. This was one of the only "Chinese" restaurants around and I wanted to see what's up. I ordered 2 types of sushi rolls and a Chow Fun. The rolls were edible. The Chow Fun surprisingly was pretty good. Husband had sushi (spicy tuny hand roll, salmon sushi), which he really loved (and he can be picky). Ordered dinner for delivery on Saturday night. The walnut shrimp was mediocre at best but I've had better at most other places. The sweet and sour pork was very disappointing, as was the spicy chicken wings which were not spicy and lacking some much needed flavor. To make matters worse, there was a chicken head in my chicken wings. I should have taken a photo but I threw it out of disgust. The only decent dish was the cheese wonton which I've never had a complaint from any restaurant because you can't really mess that up. The Thai ice tea was in a can and it was $2.50!! What a waste!! Had I known that, I wouldn't have ordered it. I wasted $47 on very disappointing food. Do yourself a favor and order from any other Chinese restaurant. I felt so unsatisfied and wasted my money. Disclaimers: I have never been there, and I have never ordered a dish with any meat in it, and I didn't order a Lunch Special. This is delicious! The food just arrived, fairly promptly, and it is light and fresh and hot and really really tasty. All the veggies are firm but perfectly cooked and the sauces have a very nice kick. I'd hesitate to give a perfect score to a restaurant I've only tried once, but I give it 5 stars to help compensate for all the bad reviews, which were mostly several years ago. Often at this kind of place, the Lunch Specials (made in bulk, possibly sitting around open) aren't as good as the a la carte orders, so perhaps that's been part of the concern. But these are great. Look out, they have a hole cut in a top corner of each plastic container, so I imagine if you aren't careful, it could get messy. read more

I don't know why this place does not receive a higher rating lately on Yelp. My wife and I (and our VERY finicky Kid) love this place. And that's saying something if you knew how picky our kid's culinary tastes are! Our favorite is the Combination Lo Mein (chicken, beef, & shrimp - and our Kid's favorite). We always request bean sprouts to be added every time we order this dish and they always come through with our special request. The other vegetables included with this dish are always fresh and cooked just right and the noodles are always perfect too. The chicken and shrimp are very tasty with this dish and the beef is never tough. Our other favorite is the Orange Crispy Shrimp. (this dish also comes in beef but we have not yet tried it) It reminds us of Yang Chow's legendary "Slippery Shrimp" but at a fraction of the cost. My wife and I disagree on the egg rolls. She says "meh" but I like them. I especially like the SUPER HOT mustard they include. Not just those generic mustard packs that come in those ketchup tubes. These come in a little cup with a lid thats perfectly sized for dipping the egg roll in. Man, this stuff is really hot! Admittedly, we've not tried the sushi or other Japanese dishes. We tend to go to Whole Foods for sushi take out. The rice is always made to perfection and is quite reasonably priced (only $1.50 for a large order). If you are looking for well prepared, quality Chinese food from the west side / Santa Monica, Mandarin is an excellent choice. read more

NEVER AGAIN! I am writing this review to get myself to hold it together and not get physically sick. I ordered Mandarin Sushi from Seemless because my favorite place for sushi on seemless (craft) is no longer on there. Arrived on time and what I ordered. The delivery guy smelled like he just put out a cigarette, which I noticed, but didn't really care. I did notice AFTER I shut the door the overwhelming smell of cigarettes. I can only assume he was smoking in the car because the bag and everything in it smelled like it. Thankfully (I thought) the sushi was in hard plastic. It was terrible. Honestly some of the worst sushi I have ever had. It was very fishy, did not smell or taste fresh and I couldn't even swallow it. The ginger even tasted off. I thought my one saving grace was the diet coke that was in a can. Jokes on me because drinking that was like kissing a smoker. Honestly cigarette issue aside, the sushi was disgusting. I hope this saves someone from making the same mistake I did! I have never been more turned off by food. I will NEVER eat there again. Beef chow fun was way way too salty with soy sauce and no bean sprouts but cabbage instead. Couldn't finish an order between the two of us because it was really too salty. This was closer, I thought I might give it a shot and was hoping to find a gem west of the 405.. :( Price is ok, but the food is really not worth it. If you're looking for something authentic; I'd first recommend Mandarin Kitchen and then maybe Hop Li or Hop Woo too. The only reason I give this place 2 stars instead of one is because: (1) I really like the moo shu chicken, it has more veggies and less greasy and salty than some others I've had (it's better than the one from Chang's in Brentwood). They make you pay for "steamed rice" - HA! - the worst, gross, old, stale, dry, yucky rice. Didn't feel fresh, and they lied, they told me they pack it in ice or something for delivery. it was sort of warm. not a good thing for sushi.
