My husband and I visited here on a quest to try some Indian food in the midwest and were absolutely not left disappointed! From the moment we stepped inside, the staff very quickly greeted us and made us feel welcome. He frequently checked in, made meal suggestions, and made the experience feel much more personal. We ordered a mango lassi, chicken korma, garlic naan, and lamb chops (which were a chef special of the day). Each dish was delicious and had the perfect amount of spice and flavor for us. The lamb chops were definitely the standout for us, though they were a bit expensive. The naan was also surprisingly soft and pillowy, which is my preferred texture, so it was the perfect vehicle to scoop up all that extra curry and rice, really pulling the whole meal together. I was excited to try a new Indian spot. The garlic naan was delicious! The Korma had good flavors unfortunately the lamb was overcooked and chewy. (It was an interesting drink menu) as the bartender was making these drinks, he takes a swig straight out of the vodka bottle. I just happened to be looking at the bar when he did this. I waved the owner over and pointed this out. He didn't seem too phased by this. Maybe this happens all the time? Clearly, the bartender has alcoholic tendencies. He did have a slight tremor which led me to think, does this guy have the DT's? Perhaps not. At any rate, my friends did not drink their drinks. Then the bartender calls out to us. "how do you like the drinks? I made them!" Sadly, this experience leaves me not wanting to ever go back. We didn't ask to have the drinks taken off the bill. We just wanted to leave. BF and I are huge fans of Indian food and were curious about Turmeric ever since it opened. I was also very sad about Mykonos closing, so we postponed our visit. Finally we found ourselves in the area and decided to just do it and stop for a meal. We tried their veggie chilly momos and found them good, but not spectacular. They felt like a pre-made item with a sauce addition. BF had the korma entree and enjoyed it very much, although we did note that all the sauces were slightly different than what we normally have had. This might be a regional difference and didn't take anything away from the flavor profiles. My malai kofta was also very good, just with a different sauce. The menu is a little all over the place and the drink menu has some just plain odd combinations on offer. The buffet is available from 11-2. I was there later so I ordered off the menu. I was hungry and the reviews recommended the naan. I got the butter chicken which was delicious, with plenty of sauce to mop up with the naan. It was made with tandoori chicken that would probably be pretty good on its own. The naan was superlative--pillowy and buttery. Portions were generous. Service was friendly and there were cricket matches on TV. This used to be a fun Greek greasy spoon. Now it is transformed into a really lovely Indian restaurant. But one where there is a beautiful fully stocked bar and the ability to watch cricket matches while you dine. I imagine this is what a mom would dish up for the kids but with a fancy flair. We arrived midafternoon, while they were taking down the noon buffet. Reality did not live up to expectations. The paper menu was different than that on the web. I've had many potato dishes at Indian restaurants but never one that was French fries drenched in a sweet chili sauce. The dal was good. Our first order of Momos was smelling, it was at least a couple of days old. Honey Chilli Potato was soggy and neither crispy nor spicy. Malai Kofta was made of Besan and not Chenna/Paneer. Also, for the price the portion was very little. Paneeer was made by a kindergarten kid, basic gravy + paneer cubes. And, Malabar Paratha was frozen paratha, just heated (that too not well). This is hands down the best Indian we've had in town! From the samosas to the cauliflower appetizer to the curries, we loved it all! It's also special to see that they have an Indian twist on traditional cocktails with unique spices and flavors. I tried the whiskey sour one and it was so delicious!
