I went with a friend to Mango Mangeaux yesterday for an early dinner before a movie. We were seated promptly, and the waiter got our drink orders right away. My friend ordered the ribeye as it comes with a baked potato and green beans. I didn't see anything I wanted so I ordered two lobster tails and mashed potatoes. The waiter comes back to tell me that they don't do à la carte lobster tails. I instead ordered the ribeye and added a lobster tail. The food took about an hour, which I didn't have a problem with. I ordered my steak med-well, it was burnt on the outside and basically raw inside. My lobster tail wouldn't come out of the shell. What I was able to salvage tasted like charcoal. The baked potato was so cold that neither the cheese, nor butter, melted at all. I asked the waiter to just remove the meal from the check because I'm sure I'd miss my entire movie waiting for them to make another one. He tells me he'll get the manager. The manger comes and asked me to cut into my steak, I entertained him. He then informs me that all the food that leaves the kitchen is up to their "standard," to which I asked if I could be shown said standard. He was very dismissive and did nothing to make the situation better. I had only taken two bites of a $50 subpar meal. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

My first but not last visit. A friend and I ate there around 11 this morning! It was a perfect time since at that hour they serve breakfast as well as lunch. I had the fried chicken breast and French toast! It was delicious! The chicken was fried perfectly and the French toast was good as well. We expected so much more. The service is definitely their week spot. Our food during a weekday lunch took over 30 minutes, my coffee was cold by the time the cream was brought even though the waitress asked twice if I we wanted some and our water glasses were often empty. Of course the water glasses should be larger, the stem glasses are cute but inadequate size as water glasses. After such a long wait for our food I couldn't even bring myself to send back the burnt top quiche, rookie cook mistake of fresh spinach not blanched so it wouldn't rise. Honestly they shouldn't have served it like that, maybe no one is looking at food before it leaves the kitchen? We decided to give the desert a try since we both love beignets. Unfortunately they don't serve even close to a true beignet, what they call beignets are cream puffs. And if they were listed as cream puffs I would rate them excellent. But as stuffed beignet they fail. Mango Mangeaux has great potential, hope they can work out the service issues. read more

I went here in July of this year for breakfast and it was great. We ordered fish and grits, French toast and eggs Benedict. The grits were so good without seasoning or cheese and the fish was fresh. Well, I returned 10/17/20 for lunch. I don't know if being an hour before closing (I know because the wait staff kept talking about leaving) or anger (the chef was yelling at waitress because the order was wrong) shrimp and grits not pasta. The Cobb salad was missing 2 ingredients and the grits took 45 minutes then they were watery with lemon juice, not lemon butter as advertised. The shrimp was still gray but cooking in the grits as I stirred. $70+ and I left to eat elsewhere with an upset stomach. The manager apologized for the salad and took it off the tab. It would be honorable to say they were close to closing and certain items are off or we messed up your order. To serve less than your best and charge top dollar is not respectable. read more

I came to Mango Mangeaux on a Sunday afternoon looking for a pleasant brunch in the Hampton area. My friend and I walked inside and the atmosphere was perfect. It was cozy and comfortable with the perfect amount of flair. We were seated after a 15 minute wait, which was expected on a Sunday morning. Our server told us that they had a mimosa pitcher "special" and we ordered one to split. We waited about ten minutes for our glasses and pitcher to arrive, and the mimosas were very good! We both ordered their 2 up 2 down meal, complete with bacon, sausage, eggs, and French toast!The meal was excellent and the eggs were the best I've had at a breakfast spot. Once we were finished, our server brought us the bill in which we asked her to split our pitcher price in half. We were surprised to see that we each had been charged $13 for our shared pitcher. I immediately thought it was a mistake but when looking around the restaurant, caught a glimpse of a small sign in the corner that read: "Mimosa pitchers $26." I couldn't believe it. I've never paid that much for a pitcher of mimosa. Brunch spots in NYC don't even charge that much for a SINGLE pitcher. And our server actually told us we would be getting a deal, without enclosing the actual price of the mimosa pitcher. We should have asked, but she also pushed that we would be receiving a deal so we assumed the price would be pretty low. Good food, but ridiculous drink prices. If you're looking for a cheap and boozy brunch, this is not the place! read more

So glad I finally made it here! After having a friend tell me about checking it out, I came for breakfast. The decor makes you feel as if you have been transported to a fancy getaway. I had the "2 up 2 down" meal .Everything was cooked just right and it was filling enough without being too much. Also enjoyed a mango mimosa. The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. One thing to note, the establishment is beautiful but very small and fills up quickly. I will be returning very soon, and I will be sure to make a reservation so I don't miss out!! read more

I was delighted to find this lovely spot when I used yelp to find a brunch option. I loved everything about it--the concept, the decor, the cuisine, gracious staff and definitely the mimosa flight! It was such a great brunch, that I returned the next day with more family members. This time I met the proprietors and it was my pleasure to tell them in person how happy I am for their success. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is... It is beautifully decorated!!! The food, wait staff and atmosphere have been wonderful each time I have visited this restaurant. I liked it so much that I had my baby shower in the private dining area upstairs and my guest absolutely loved the food options and the attentive waitress. This restaurant is a little pricey, but I don't mind paying for quality. Now if you go during peak hours, be prepared to wait awhile (just like any non-franchise you go to where the food is made to order). This restaurant is my "go-to" brunch spot! My wife and I stumbled across this small restaurant in downtown Phoebus. I must say, if you are in the area, it is definitely worth a try. Beautifully decorated, their food is outstanding Southern creole cuisine. The fried green tomatoes were the best I have had in Hampton Roads, second only to a very-very pricey restaurant in Richmond. The andouille poppers were also incredible, light and delicious. Since we had already eaten dinner, we shared one entree: the shrimp and grits - superb! I heard they are open for breakfast, lunch and for Sunday Brunch, so we are looking forward to our next visit. Because of their size, I suggest reservations before making a special trip...and a meal there is worth a special trip. read more

My friends and I just finished eating at Mango Mangeaux. The food was good, but the wait to receive our food was ridiculously long. We sat at our table at approximately 1:45; however, the food did not begin to come out 'til 3:15! About an hour into our wait, someone - not our waiter- came to the table and told us that they were out of lobster and that another lunch selection had to be made. Please note that we had already been waiting an hour at that point. During this entire time, there were no apologies or explanations for the extraordinarily long wait and no effort to appease us. We didn't even get offered another mango lemonade. Just a simple courtesy of refilling our drinks for free would have gone a long way, but nothing was done to make our wait more palatable. The six of us left the restaurant vowing to take our business elsewhere in the future. Once we received our food, it was fine, but we really didn't enjoy it because of the very minimal customer service. More attention to the detail of valuing your customers will go a long way to prospering your business especially when there are so many restaurants that have quality food and quality service. read more

Service was the biggest problem. Came from out of town. Called at 3pm was told I could not make a dinner reservation same day which was fine. But was told they accept walk-ins, open at 5:30 and can come then. Fast forward, my party of 5 shows up at 5:35. Was told there were not any tables available. Meanwhile, I am looking at 4 empty tables. When asking about them, they said 2 were reserved and the other 2 could not have one chair added to them to accommodate 5. When trying to work with them, we decided to just ask to seat 3. After giving us a hard time, they finally sat just 3 of us. 2 people in our party had to leave although we came in town to spend time with them. The food was medicore. Service was unorganized and slow. Drinks and peach cobbler were good. I was better off staying where I'm from and getting some good food and service. I've been to way smaller hole in the walls and have had a great experience. Oh, by the way...was at the restaurant for 2 hours and a table of 6 was empty the entire time. No one ever sat there. Which means they could've ACCOMMODATED us. They don't know how to run a restaurant. Clearly beginners. read more

Management could use a visit from HR in regards to how they treat their staff. Sending out messages of "cleaning house" basically warning their staff to "shape up or ship out" is extremely inappropriate. Many stories of them terminating staff without a direct notice i.e. deleting them from scheduling system and not returning phone calls is quite disrespectful. The overall behavior of management is irresponsible and inappropriate. Get it together. read more

The food is good, but it's not that good that you should have to endure or be subjected to the following: 1. Erratic business policy: reservations or walk-ins. Neither is managed well. 2. SLOW service: reservations or walk-in. 3. Unprofessional/ineffective staff: courteous demeanor should prevail at all times. 4. Customer feedback: I wasn't going to leave a review until they deleted my response to their poll question regarding reservations or walk-ins only. The response addressed only the question being asked. However, I suspect that because I addressed the issue of slow service, which affects both models, they weren't fond of it. And there's the issue with deleting responses from friends I tagged to answer the poll question and BLOCKING all of us from their FB page. I guess they take that page from 45's book. 5. In summary, many others (via reviews on multiple platforms), as well as themselves (hence the poll question), recognize that the patronage opportunities and more timely service needs to be addressed. But let's all just put on a happy face to make them appear awesome and to hell with the customer! read more

This was the worst dining experience I have ever had. My party of four adults and 1 toddler wasted over two hours outside today in 50 something degree temperatures. That was just fine, being that the hype on this swanky little place was over the top. The look of the place was spectacular. The service was decent. Our food on the other hand was the worst I've ever experienced for this price point. Cold , limp French toast, cold turkey sausage and flavorless shrimp and grits. The manager offered a refire on the meals but after two hours waiting outside and an hour inside, no drink for my kid and an incorrect order, NO THANKS!!!! No other compensation was offered other than 5$ off of a 101.02 bill( just for my husband, toddler and I).The only reason I gave one star is because at least the overpriced flight of mimosas were drinkable. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. read more

The two stars are because this was my 5th visit and the 4 previous experiences were great. I even gave it a 5 star review on my first visit. However today was so disappointing I had to share hopefully for the betterment of the business. First of all, We noticed some food sitting in the window for minutes, which I know is a restaurant NoNo. The bartender never offered to refill my water. We waited at least 45 minutes for our food. When we asked how long our food would be served he said we were next up. However another order with way more food came out before ours, so that appeared to be untrue. When I stated we would like to leave and just pay for our drinks he simply replied "ok", with no empathy or acknowledgement whatsoever. I am writing this review because I really love the restaurant and respect the women who have made it happen. I really want to continue to support this business along with their others but this experience has really turned me off. read more
